Read Only Access On Win 2003 Server

May 16, 2006

I am currently upgrading to win 2003 servers. When I open an access 2000 database on the server I get a read only warning.

I have check all the permissions to allow the users access, but the warning remains.

I do not have the problem with any other documents on the server.

If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate a response.

MS Access And Windows Server 2003

Dec 21, 2006

Hello,

Could you please someone take a look int my problem? I have made an Access database with forms, reports and everything. We used it on the LAN and it worked fine. Now I would like to enable users to reach the data even from home, for which I thought the terminal server would be the best (due to mostly slow connection type).

I asked our provider to install Windows Server 2003 R2 on our remote server. Then I installed Access 2003 and copied the mdb file to that server.

The file can be open but it blocks all VBA codes in the forms, modules, etc. I think this is related to the security issues and something called sandbox of Access and tried to follow the instrudtion on the help section, but no success.

Please guide me to run my mdb on Windows Server. Thanks!!

Stan

Upgrade From Access 2003 To Sql Server

Feb 25, 2005

Linked SQL Server Tables In Access 2003

Apr 16, 2007

We are sharing an Access 2003 database amongst two departments that contains twelve (12) tables that are SQL Server linked tables. Nine (9) of the tables work just fine for people in both departments. Three (3) of the tables cannot be opened until the user refreshes the link(s) using their ODBC DSN.

We do not understand why nine of the tables work without issue but three will not.

Has anyone ever run into this issue before? Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks

Ms Access 2003 Upgrade To SQL Server Backend

Aug 17, 2005

Is there an easy fast way to do this:
We are having problems upgrading to SQL server for only our backend tables. The problem is we have SQL reserved words that can only be used by SQL Server. There is a huge list I was given. I assume this applies to all objects, in our ms access database. Any suggestions on how to at least 'find' all of these at once? Or fix this easily? I know which tables would not upload ...but in looking through them I don't even see which reserved word is causing the issue???

Also..our front end application with stay Ms access 2003. Do I still need to update any reserved words in that or just the tables?

Vista, Ms Access & Windows Server 2003 Corruption?

Apr 3, 2008

In our company we use a windows 2003 server. Our database is ms access 2002. The back end of the db is situated in a directory on the primary HD of the server.
All our workstations use windows professional. The DB works great when inputting data from workstations using widows pro.

I use a vista (ultimate) laptop. It appears that when I enter data from my vista laptop at times it corrupts the backend of the db. None of the other workstations do this.
Is vista a problem here in this situation?

Problem With MS Access 2000 Application On Windows Server 2003

Mar 21, 2006

Hi all,

having some serious troubles with a MS Access 2000 project running on a Windows 2003 Server environment.

If I compile the project it doesn't produce a compiling-error. Everything seems to work fine. Creating a .mde file and running it on a Windows Server 2003 produces some serious errors. The project seems to be starting correctly but opening a form or simply trying to close the application causes MS Access to crash! :mad:

I tried the project on 2 different Windows Server 2003 environments, 1 having MS Access 2000 installed and 1 having only MS Access 2000 Runtime installed. Both are experiencing the same problems.

The following references are used in the project:
- Visual Basic For Applications
- Microsoft Access 9.0 Object Library
- Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.6 Library
- Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library
- Microsoft Jet and Replication Objects 2.6 Library
- OLE Automation
- Microsoft Office 9.0 Object Library
- Microsoft ADO Ext. 2.8 for DLL and Security

I tried the following solutions to solve the problem:
* Removing MS Access completely and reinstalling it.
* Compiling and creating a .mde on the Windows 2003 Server which has the full version of MS Access 2000 installed.
* Using JetComp to repair the database.
* Creating a new MS Access 2000 application and copy all Forms/Modules into it.

Nothing helped so far..

The same project is running correctly on Windows 98, ME, 2000, 2000 Server and XP Pro/Home. Both Windows 2003 Servers are fully updated, including updates regarding MS Access.

Database Stored On Server Read-only?

May 23, 2014

I have created a database with multiple user and I have stored it on a file server. The remote users have been given read write permission on the server. However when the person opens the database it is read only. I have not to my knowledge made the file read only as I am able to work off the same file from the server. I made sure that no one was using the database when It was opened but it still comes up as read only. She is able to access the database and work in it but she is not able to modify anything and she does have permission within the database to do so.

2003 Problem With Read-Only File Attribute.

Nov 3, 2005

I have a Front-End Access Data Project file (ADE compiled format for distribution) that I purposely have the Read-Only file attribute set to True.

I've been using it this way for about 7 years starting with Access 97 and the current version is 2000.
I am upgrading the app to 2003 now and everything with the conversion is fine except when I set the Read-Only file attribute to True it all of a sudden when starting it no longer connects to the Back-End (sql server) and displays a "form load cancelled" error before hanging.

If I disable the Read-Only attribute, everything is fine again, but I prefere not to do this because that will require me to rework my auto updater.

I use it this way because it prevents bloating of the file and allows for my auto updater to determine new version by using the file modification date.

Any Idea's?

Restricting Users Ability To Read Only Version: 2003

Feb 22, 2006

I have a very simple Access database that contains a form where users enter sheduling information...I wish to limit a group of users to be able to read this information only and not modify or add to it.

The tables are in a back end mdb. The rest is in a front end mdb. And the users actually use the mde file when working with the schedule.

What in your opinion is the least complicated method for providing some users with the ability to add/modify and some with read only.

Thank you.

Multi Users Issues W/MS 2003 Server

Jul 10, 2007

Our company recently switched over to a Microsoft 2003 server and I
noticed in our database, before several employees could work in our access database. Now only 1 person at a time can enter the database.
I splited the database and added shortcuts of the front end on each
individual's desk but again only 1 person at a time can make entries. We all share a M drive. How do I fix it so we all can work in the database at the same time?

Before the upgrade, we had the 2000 server and everything worked fine
w/ the access database; we all could work in the database; however, w/
the new 2003 server we are having problems as I explained above.

What can I do to fix this problem? Thnaks.

Read Only In Access? Is It Possible?

Mar 21, 2005

My Access database is situated in a folder which has permissions to only let some people write into it.

The problem is that we would like users with read access to open the database to view but get the following error:

Couldnt use ...path... File already in use.

The database always has more than one user in it so this may be the root of the error message.

Solutions which cannot be implemented are moving the DB to a higher folder or giving write access to this folder to the read-only users.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

MS Access Read Only Prompt

Jul 11, 2005

I am using windows XP SP2, Office 2003.

I have created a database to store information from a mine site. I have set up a switch board and most users will just view reports or graphs that have already been designed.

I want the general users to open the file read only without having to open access and use the open read only command. I also don't want to go down the path of database security if it can be helped.

I read in the help page that there is a read only prompt that can be flashed up when the file is opened. Unfortunatly the help page suggests, Tools > Options > Security Tab (tick read only prompt). In office 2003 this option no longer exists (if it ever did)

Any ideas, would be good if i could add something to the shortcut and then have some uses use this shortcut.

Thankyou

Access Database Read-only

May 4, 2005

I am having problems with ODBC Access data source name. When I want to display some database data in a html table on a webpage there is no problem. But when I send data from a html form to the database I get an OLE DB error. (I am using ADO). I can't remember the message exactly but it was something like

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access driver] The command must be execute on a query which can be edited.
insert.asp, line 50

For some reason my database is read-only. And I don't want that. I tried
1. ODBC administrator deleting and creating a fresh System DSN, checked if there Read-Only wasn't marked on.
2. Deleted my browser cache.
3. Restarted computer several times again
4. Installed MDAC 2.8 again.

btw. I have created the table with MS Access XP and i am using Windows XP.
Below is my code.

[code]
<FORM ACTION="insert.asp" METHOD="post">
Barcode: <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="a1" SIZE="15"><BR>
Artist: <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="a2" SIZE="40"><BR>
Album: <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="a3" SIZE="50"><BR>
<INPUT TYPE="submit" VALUE="Send">
<INPUT TYPE="reset" VALUE="Clear"><BR>
</FORM>
<%
a1 = request.Form("a1")
a2 = request.Form("a2")
a3 = request.Form("a3")
if ((a1 <> "") and (a2 <> "")) or ((a1 <> "") and (a3 <> "")) then
Set db=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
db.ConnectionTimeout=40
db.Open "DSN=pieter", "admin"
sql = "INSERT INTO albums VALUES ('"&a1& "','"&a2& "','" &a3& "')"
Set rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
<----- Here is the error ----> db.execute sql
db.close
Set db=Nothing
end if
%>

How To Read PDF File In MS Access 2010

Sep 9, 2014

I am way beyond my skills trying to read these files.

I am trying to read *.pdf files using VBA. I have tried using some code

Code:
Dim AcroApp As Acrobat.CAcroApp
Dim theForm As Acrobat.CAcroPDDoc
Dim jso As Object
Dim text1, text2 As String
'error occurs here stating"ActiveX component can't create object"

[Code] ....

I have set a reference to Adobe 10 Type Library and Adobe Access 3 Type library. I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader X. I now read them by converting to text file and using FileObject to read the text file and VBA text commands to get the right fields.
