I have read through the various posting regarding ACCESS 2003 security warnings. As like everyone else, I receive a security warning stating, “This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer.” I have already installed Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 and I have already enabled sandbox mode. This warning still appears when I try to open databases sent to me by other people. It also appears when I try to create a new database from my own computer. I understand why this message may appear when I open other peoples’ databases, but why would this error message appear on my own computer after I create a database from the very same computer? I would like to market my databases to specific clients, but I need to eliminate the security warnings that would appear each time they opened my databases from their computers. I don’t want to suggest that people change their security levels to low in order to open my database. For this reason, I am considering the option of digitally signing my databases with an authenticated signature. As something like this would run anywhere up to about $400.00, I want to make sure that it would be the best, and correct, option for me. My ultimate question: If I am already trying to create databases from my own computer and receive this warning message, would a digital certificate work in eliminating the error message for my future clients? Also, I understand that I may use the signatures for up to a year. Would I be able to use this for multiple databases that I create as long as it’s within that one year, or would I only be able to sign one specific database and use that same database for the entire year? This is a bit of a pricey endeavor for me, so if there are any other options, I’d love to hear those, too. Thank for the help in advance!

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anybody knew a way to disable the security warning in Access that pops up saying "This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer. Do you want to open this file or cancel the operation?"
If possible, I'd like to disable the message for just my database, but we currently don't use any other database anyway, so I'm not too concerned with turning it off completely if that's all I can do. I'm sure there has to be an option somewhere to not check for macros or something, but I can't find it.
If anyone knows how to do this or if you know that it is not possible, please let me know.
Thanks,
Sean

When I open my DB (I use Access 2003), Access flashes a window 'Security warning : This file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer. Do you want to open this file or cancel the operation?'
How do I stop this annoying message so that my DB opens directly?

Hi,
I wonder if anyone here might be able to help me out here. I've been pondering this issue for so long and i was almost giving up.
I've been getting this warning everytime i open up an Access file (.MDB) especially, when trying to open up a file that's sitting on another computers. i have a few computers and they are set up in a peer to peer environment.
I took a printscreen of the warning message and attached it to this post. Please take a look at it. It's called "access.jpg"
Is there any way of turning it off? is it to do with the peer to peer networking?
Thank you in advance

I have a "Search" form that I am using to search through a query in a list box of all of my Customers. Once the record that I am wanting to view comes up I highlight it and click a "View" button to bring up another form with the customers full record. When this form is open I am able to update the customer information and add User's to it if necessary.
My problem comes after I click on my save and close button that takes me back to me search form. I want to close the search form and the error I get is "The record cannot be deleted or changed because table "tblUserProfile" includes related records." I click OK and get a SECOND error stating "You can't save this record at this time. MS Access may have encountered an error while trying to save a record. If you close this object now, the data changes you made will be lost. Do you want to close the database object anyway?"
I have already made my changes and saved them in the form with the customer record so am not sure why I am getting an error when trying to close the Search form.

I recently upgraded a DB from 2003 to 2013 and ran into the following problem.
I have a button that opens a file dialog box and allows the user to upload a file to a predetermined location (and store the address as a hyperlink). I borrowed this code from someone else on here and modified it slightly.
In any case, the button still works, but now when it opens it doesn't have an option for "All files" under file types. So I can upload MS Office files, text files, etc., but not PDF files which are by far the most common types my users upload.
Here's my code and a screenshot is attached.
Private Sub Command35_Click()
Dim dd As Integer
Dim fileDump As FileDialog
Set fileDump = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogOpen)
dd = fileDump.Show
[Code] ....

I have a button in the form of the current access file. What I want to do is when the user click on the button,
triggered the vba to backup current access file. But since the file is currently open, is this possible? If yes, may I know how to do it with vba?
I have tried two methods but failed:
1) Use copytofile method, but I get permission denied due to file open;
2) Use dbengine.compactdatabase method, but it also has problem if the file is open.

I was just wondering if anyone can explain to me the difference between setting the database to open in shared mode in the Tools-->Options menu vs. checking or unchecking the Open Exclusive box under the user security section? Is it just two different ways to do the same thing or are there different implications for using one over the other?

Hello all:
using Access 2000.
I'm using the mdw file to secure a db and I have installed it on a few computers and it works fine. The shortcut is
"C:Program FilesMICROS~2OfficeMSACCESS.EXE" "C:Vero InventoryVERO INVENTORY_fe.mde" /WRKGRP "C:Vero InventorySecured.mdw"
There is a local folder on each workstation holding the front end and I've given full access to this user and made sure the permissions propagated to the actual mde file itself.
There's one computer that tells me it can't find the db when I run the shortcut. It has the same setup as all others....
Any ideas?
thanks

I need to know if there is anyway to view any changes made to the security workgroup file I have with my database. I need to know when or if someone is changing it to allow someone else full access to the database, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is more of a point of interest then a question, at work, Access defaults to a central workgroup file, so all Access files opened on a work machine will prompt for a user name and password, and only let you in if you get it right... but if you move the work group file, even after it has been open using that workgroup file, it will just let you straight in and GIVE YOU ADMIN RIGHTS!
No one really seems to know about this... does it happen if you manually set the workgroup file? Or is this just a security hole if you rely on the default? I'm not sure yet, haven't tested, but i fell people should be made aware (happens for sure on Access2002, haven't tested it on any others)

I need to open and process the data from a text file on the network.
The first 7 characters of the file name will be the same every day.
The rest of the file name will change from day to day.
There will only be one file in the folder that has those first 7 characters.
There are a total of about 120 text files in the folder every day - give or take - including the one I need to open and read.

I am a newbie and I am having a problem with MS Access 2000 security.
I have created a workgroup information file for a database to secure a database using a user level security. Everything seems to work ok if I use this WIF. But if I join the system.mdw file the database is not secure and opens without prompting for login. Please let me know if there is a method to block the user from using the system.mdw file.

I have just started working with a team on a database that is available to everyone in this office. We have tried to lock it out and assign permissions by using workgroups, running security wizard, giving users no permissions, and deleting the Admin user, however none of this has sealed the database. The workgroup file is seperate folder on the server and the shortcut we make people use links to that workgroup. However Access is still defaulting to seperate workgroups on users personal computers. Is there anyway we can prevent this? Thanks.

Hi
I've done every search I could think of, but haven't come up with a solution.
I'm having a problem with file system security settings of windows 2000.
I have a FE/BE database setup, the BE is stored on a network drive that all users have access to. The FE is stored in the same spot on every workstation (C:dataXXXXXX.mdb). The FEs demonstrate considerable bloat and I understand that the solution is frequent Compact and Repairs.
However, each physical workstation is used by more than one user (different shifts) and the compact process removes the Everyone file system access from the database and replaces it with Administrators, and the current user; thereby preventing anyone other than the compacting individual from accessing the FE on that computer.
Is there a solution??
thanks
Jesse

Hello people of access world forums. I've decided to design a simple access db with 2003 version but with 2000 compatibility and everything appear to work ok.
After designing and testing the db, I have set the Jet user-level security options as described in some documentation and set the startup options too for a "clean type" start. Everything is ok: I have created the workgroup in a new .mdw file, joined the workgroup, set the users, set the groups, protect the forms I wanted to. If I try to open the db, it asks for user and password and the db works as espected about security.
But if I delete, move or change the .mdw filename, the db turns accesible without the implemented security. Only the startup option works but no user is prompted and the protected items turns unprotected.
I would like to know how can I associate the .mdw to the .mdb so I can't access the .mdb if the .mdw file is not present (i.e. copying the .mdb to another computer or something).
Thanks in advanced.

hi there,
I thought my problem would be a common one but after spending enough time on the net and all forums i couldn't find my answer... anyway... here is my problem. The database is about creating reference, the table contains multiple references, i create a folder where i'll put all the files to be attached
I wanna a create a link to a file... the thing are :
- i want to open any kind of file (or at least i specify in a table what kind of file to open (jpg, pdf, etc...)
- The name of the file is different for ever record...
Anyway i think it will be more clear with the code :
Private Sub File_Name_Label_DblClick(Cancel As Integer)
Dim rst As New ADODB.Recordset
Dim file As String
Dim fold As String
Dim i As Integer
'Open Table Folder
rst.ActiveConnection = CurrentProject.Connection
rst.CursorType = adOpenStatic
rst.LockType = adLockPessimistic
rst.Open "SELECT * FROM Folders;"
fold = rst("Certificats")
rst.Close
rst.Open "SELECT * FROM FileType ORDER BY FileType.FileType DESC;"
'Find File
file = DocNo + rst("filetype")
If file <> "" Then GoTo OK
rst.MoveNext
OK:
'Open File
Application.FollowHyperlink file, , True
Bye:
'Close Table
rst.Close
Set rst = Nothing
End Sub
But there is an error (runtime error 490), any help would be appreciated
Thanks again ..

Greetings,
I have a database I have been developing for some time that I can no longer access. I am running windows XP and Access 2003, I am the only user and it is stored on my local system. I was tweaking some VBA code in a few of the forms and closed the file which triggered the auto compact/repair. Everything appeared normal until I tried to open it again later. Now I cannot open the file, I do not get an error message or anything. When I click on the file Access opens and stops, never actually opens the database. If I try to open the file inside Access nothing happens. I have tried importing the objects into a new DB and still nothing happens inside Access. The real wierd part to me is that outside of Access everything is accessible. I can import tables from inside Excel with no trouble, I can put a button into a blank database that opens the other database through DAO and I can see all my tables, forms, data, etc. My problem is that I do not need the data, it is just test data at this point, I need to recover the VBA code from the Forms and I do not know how to do that without being able to open the database in Access.
Here is what I have tried so far (on copies of original DB):
-Compact and Repair inside Access: Nothing happens just like trying to do anything else with it inside Access
-Opened DB holding shift: Same Problem
-Copied file to two other Windows XP/Access 2003 systems: Same problem
-Used Jet Compact: The database file compacts successfully, still cannot open in Access
-Opened Access with /decompile: Same problem, Access opens, DB does not
-Created new DB and tried to import objects: Cannot open the old DB or see its objects
-Imported data from inside Excel: No problems, all tables/queries are available and all data appears correct
-Accessed file from new DB using DAO code: Everything appears normal, I can export the modules to text fine, but I have lots of code in forms that I cannot export
-Opened other databases in Access on same machine: No problems
I've done quite a bit of searching on this and have not found the same problem listed anywhere else. I do have daily backups so I'm not completely lost, but I made quite a few changes before it died that make it worthwhile for me to try and recover the file.
Any suggestions of other things to try? Is there any way to extract the VBA code inside a form from an .mdb file outside of Access?
Thanks for any ideas!

Hi,
I was wondering if i could get some help here. I'm getting the following error message when trying to open MDB Access file.
Microsoft Access cannot open this file
This file is located outside your intranet or an untrusted site. ...
I did not get any problems like this before i upgraded my IE to IE-7 browser. I believe IE 7 has changed a bit of security setting there.
I can open up any apps(words, excel) without this error or problem apart from Access application. I then copied the Access file from my network drive onto my local machine - then it works fine.
I have been to IE-7 internet option tool to change the level of security especially the Local intranet and trusted site.
I have added in my Server IP address - 192.168.3.10 to Local Intranet. This doesn't help at all. I've run out ideas.
Note: this Access MDB file has already been on my server. I didnot get it from any emails. I got no problem with other PCs except for this PC i use.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you in advance
