Setting Some Text As Visible Or Invisible In A Tabular Form Wrt Boolean Field
May 3, 2006
Hi there,
I know there have been a good number of questions about visibility in forms already but I couldn't find a solution to my problem (or maybe I just didn't get it).
Basically, I have a tabular form (more than one record displayed at once) and one the field is of the Yes/No type. For each record, I'd like to have a text box that displays 'pending', set as visible if the field value is 'Yes' and set as invisible if the field value is 'No'.
The table is as follows:
id : auto-number
Flag: Yes/No [Yes]
If I use the following code on the Flag button:
Private Sub Flag_AfterUpdate()
Me.pending2.Visible = Me.Flag.Value
End Sub
all the 'pending' text boxes appear and disappear together (instead of just the relevant one).
I thought of using another text box, with the same data source ('Flag') but which would set itself to visible or invisible wrt to its own value but I couldn't find a way to do it.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance !
and many thanks already for the forum and the contributions - it's been extremely helpful, esp. for a beginner.
My question is how can I make data in a form visible or invisible just by a button. In other words, if I have a group of buttons, based on the button selected I would want certain data to appear.
I know that this is possible, I have seen it done but just cannot find out how to do it or what this is called to look it up in Helps.
I have tried searching a few threads, but can't get the answer or perhaps i'm tired. Anyway I have a YES/NO field and a command button. I want the button to be visible only if the yes field has been selected. No = invisible button.
I was able to use coding for making controls visible or not in the attached database.
I have a main form with a tab control that has 3 tabs with subforms in them.
What I am not able to do is in the Tab Control I want the 3rd tab to be invisible and on the second tab where it says “May we go through the questions now?”, I have a check box. When that check box is checked I want the 3rd tab to become visible.
I am having problems figuring out this code to reference the Tab Control Page.
I am trying to create a form that has a tabular main form and a tabular subform. All I can do is to create a main form that just shows a singular record (columnar). I want to be able to see say 10 records in the main form and 10 records in the subform. How do I do this?
I am trying to make a subform appear when a particular entry is selected from a list box. I did a test... no problem. In my real database... well, you know. Here's my code:
----
On my main form property:
Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)
DoCmd.Maximize DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
If Me![ProjectSubType] = "Commercial Chest" Then Me![CommercialChestsSubForm].Visible = True Else Me![CommercialChestsSubForm].Visible = False End If
End Sub
---- On my list box property:
Private Sub ProjectSubType_AfterUpdate()
If Me![ProjectSubType] = "Commercial Chest" Then Me![CommercialChestsSubForm].Visible = True Else Me![CommercialChestsSubForm].Visible = False End If
Is there a way to setup the format on fields to only allow text inputs, no numbers wanted. I know I can do this at the table level but is some cases numbers are ok. So I want to code it so I can control when numbers are ok and when there not.
I need to have a subform that shows up smack dab in the middle of my main screen when visible - which is what I want - but only based on a specific value of a control on the main form. Specifically, if a control's value is "See Spreadsheet", I want the subform visible front and center as it contains the link to the server location for that specific record. If the control's value is not "See Spreadsheet", I want the form to be invisible.
My code:
If Me.BudgetsFacultyAccountNumber = "SEE SPREADSHEET" Then Me.frmMsgBoxUpdateSpreadsheet.Form.Visible = True Me.BudgetsFacultyServerLocation.Visible = True Else: Me.frmMsgBoxUpdateSpreadsheet.Form.Visible = False Me.BudgetsFacultyServerLocation.Visible = False End If
The red lines result in an MS VBA error: "Compile error: Method or data member not found."
I've tried referencing that subform a hundred different ways, but I can't get it to work.
I've accomplished some simpler things like hiding fields based on the data in another field but nothing very complex. To the point: I have a report that shows data in both rows and columns, the report has a 7 columns, 3 of which could or could not contain data other than zero, in which case the column is not displayed. The problem I have is that it could be any of those three at any given time depending on what data is available for that report and what the user wants to see. Basically, if a given company has no data regarding column "A", then column A is hidden, but the main grouping is done through rows so all companies contain at least 0 for all columns (what I did is that, if a field sums the whole column returns 0, then the column is not visible). What I need to get working is the second part of this, have the columns rearrange themselves depending on which column is hidden (it could be that all 3 are hidden). How could I make this work? (btw, autoshrink is not usefull for this since it only shrinks vertically, not horizontally).
I run a merge process from VBA code to create word documents. I would like to add 2 word tables to a document and only show them based on some parameter or mergefield in the data.
Can a table be identified? Like Table 1. And can it be made invisible?
My company has a new database that we will use to track PTO (paid time off/vacation), including the submission/approval process. Not everyone should have access to the approval dashboard as that should be restricted to only managers. Everyone will have the same basic form so that they can see their PTO history, hours remaining to be used, etc.
What I want to do is have a button on the form that is visible only if the person is a manager. The button will open the PTO approval form. How can I make a button visible/invisible based on user access levels?
I am trying to improve my code by making it more readible. The following code works, but it is certainly not the most efficient way. I`m trying to write a loop to make certain elements in an Access report visible/invisible, but I can`t address the visibility property of these items while iterating over i.
I have a main form that has 2 subforms. I have a field on both forms that I have marked as "Visible="No". Both are text box controls and I have made sure that both the label and the text box itself are marked "Visible="No". In the first subform, it works correctly, while on the second one, it still displays.
I have only been playing with MS Access for a little while and I do not know all there is to know yet so I figured I come here to ask a question.
I use MS Access in web design and lately I have been experiencing a problem with my registration form which inserts new users into an MS Access database table.
Lately my registration form has become a target for spammers trying to inject spam in the form of html code into the password field of the online registration form.
I figured that I could deter this from happening by only allowing the letters A - Z and numbers 0 - 9 in the field and not allowing characters like < > and ? and ".
I assume I can do this with a validation rule but I'm unsure as to how I would go about setting this up. Limiting the field size to only 50 characters does not seem to work unfortunately.
Any help on how to set up a validation rule would be appreciated.
When loading a form often some of the text is missing, headers are not there and/or the colours for the background are simple white, until I either resize the form or scroll up and down a few times.
I have a series of reports that are built to replicate the order forms of our suppliers. On each I have a text box for Air Freight that I only want visible when the airfreight ID is ticked.
I have this working fine using an if statement on the Load Event of the reports. However when I use the OutputTo command in VBA it seems to bypass the Load Event. Any event that is triggered using OutputTo.
I have also tried setting the .visible in VBA but can't get the coding to work as I am using a variable report name depending on the SupplierName and when I try to use the Reports! nomenclature it will not accept the Report name being a variable (ie. Reports!ReportName![Airfreight].Visible where ReportName is a variable).
On my switchboard form, I have a check box which the user can check to make a text box (which appears in several different reports) visible and uncheck to make it invisible. The text box in the reports has the same name on all of them.
I am having trouble making this work.
I can think of two solutions, but haven't had success with either yet.
1. I could simply change the visible property of the report(s) control from the form. This works if the report is open, but throws an error if the report is not open.
Code:Public Sub showNumOrgsInReportCB_AfterUpdate()If Me!showNumOrgsInReportCB.Value = 0 ThenReports![publishZipR]![numOrgsF].Visible = FalseElseReports![publishZipR]![numOrgsF].Visible = TrueEnd IfEnd Sub
Is there a property or function I can use to test whether the report is open before I set the text box visibility?
2. Alternatively, a less elegant solution would be to run an event procedure to close all open reports. This would eliminate that issue, but I haven't gotten the code to work yet:
Code:Public Sub showNumOrgsInReportCB_AfterUpdate() Dim rpt As Report ' Enumerate Reports collection.For Each rpt In ReportsDoCmd.Close rpt.nameNext rptEnd Sub
This line: DoCmd.Close rpt.name throws a Run-time Error '13', Type mismatch.
how to do to return a text for each row (as field value) when a table field contains "1" as value ?
for example i have a table named "products" with a field/column called "promotion". Sometime a product is promotional, so in this case, the "promo" column holds "1" as value.
during a select on products table, how can i do to return "in promotion" (e.g.) if the column "promo" holds "1" for a product ?
Is there a place within an Access database besides a table where you can store a flag (text or boolean or number) that persists after the database is closed and can be checked when the database is opened (using VBA)?
I would like to change the text formatting (color, italics, bold etc) of the contents of a control based on a boolean value in the underlying datasource of the report.
For instance, I have a report that generates a "Proforma Invoice" i would like to ability italicize the prices of certain items based based on a boolean value (EstimatedPrice) in the underlying datasource.
I have a split form in Access 2013. I have a checkbox in the top frame that if checked a textbox becomes visible. However, if I click on a different record and check the box and go back to the previous record, the textbox becomes invisible even though the checkbox is checked.
My code for the checkbox is Private Sub chkPhoneChange_Click() If chkPhoneChange.Value = True Then lblNewPhoneNumber.Visible = True txtUpdatedNumber.Visible = True Else: If chkPhoneChange.Value = False Then lblNewPhoneNumber.Visible = False txtUpdatedNumber.Visible = False txtUpdatedNumber.Value = "" End If
We have a database with one main data entry which stores records in a seperate table. There are several thousand records keyed in using this form. Therefore, alongside the entry we have a search form which allow the user to search for a specific record and display it in the main if he/she needs to edit one.
We have received a request from users for a functionality which allows users to browse all records, using the main form layout, that they have keyed in. I guess what I am asking is: Is there a way to limit the records visible in a form using field on that same form as a limitation (ie. the users name - which is a required key-in)?
