Hi guys. I am stumped with a 45 second delay when I startup my application. I get the delay on networked workstations only when another workstation is up showing the Main "switchboard" form. Each workstation has their own copy of VBA (not compiled) with networked versions having linked tables to the server's .mdb
It seems like the workstations know that the main form is up somewhere else and need to negotiate with it. All have the (Access 2000) Default open mode to Shared, Default record locking to No Locks, and Open database using record-level locking On.
This problem is driving me nuts!! I`ve just spent a fair few months creating a database to be used by our sales team, I`ve about finished it and came to trial it with the sales manager. When he is using the database at the same time as me it becomes slow. The design has a front end with all the queries, forms etc and a back end on a server containing the tables. The database was created using Access 2000 and was designed to replace a similair db created on 97 which has a decent speed on the network. The other strange thing is that one particular macro that I`ve been using for the speed tests runs quite slow (about 3 secs) when 2 pcs have the db open but once the macro has run if it is run again it takes typically less than a second to run. What would cause a db to run a macro at different speeds after they`ve been run once? I`ve tried everything I can find on the net to try and improve the speed to no avail. Help please!!
I have a 16Mb DB. The intention is for users to access this over the network without copying onto their local machines.
At present, many of the forms are located on 1 master form and they are all subforms on tabs. There are a lot of calculated control boxes on the forms, and these seem to be very slow to bring back the data over the network whereas on my local machine, the data is displayed in a couple of seconds.
COuld this be sped up somehow? Maybe using queries or other methods?
Hello, I have split a database useing the database spliter wizard. But I still have network speed problems. What I am wondering is if anyone knows if useing an ODBC connection between the front and back ends is more efficient than file sharing across the network? Thanks for any information on this Tim
I have a couple of acces databases running on a peer to peer network (database A and B, which are housed on PC1). The database B has a link to a Customer table in database A. This was running fine until another user on the peer to peer network wanted to use database B on their pc (PC2). I had to change the the file location of the linked table to show it's location on the network so PC2 could open it. Unfortunatley this greatly slowed the operation of the database B on both machines. If anyone has made it this far - Is there any way round this?
I have completed a database for a company with 60 000 clients and over 100 000 job records.
The database works at very resonable speeds on the Server computer, or the computer on which I installed the back end of the database.
Each of the other 3 computers on the wireless network, have a local copy of the Front End on their machine, and reference the Back End (BE) on the server computer.
Each of the Client computers have varing speeds when accessing the BE, some as slow as 10 minutes for a simple search, filter or just loading a form.
What can I do to improve performance across the network?
Do I need to install additional components on the other computers to improve the db performance?
I'm having trouble with access. Basically it has been very slow to load (over 30 seconds when not opening a database) and when opening a database it just crashes.
Has anyone any idea what could cause this as it worked fine before ?
I setup a splashScreen in startup, and I uncheked all check boxes. Now, as soon as I load database starup form shows, and does not allow to do any modifications.
Is there any way i can "Undo" or drop splashScreen, and get back to normal loading of database. Thank you.
Hello All, Yesterday only i designed my first form in VB.I designed a tab form as i have to place two kinds for data from the same table separately (for user convience).i was succesfull in that. But the problem is the form is very slow to load........very very slow......
i want to know whether Tab form are slow or i have made any mistake..
Hello Guys, I have proj name m1.mdb which has forms and reports.I have 2 forms form1 ,form2.In form2 I have button that creates new database named m2_date.mdb and creates report and form1 by using property DoCmd.TransferDatabase acExport, "Microsoft Access", sFilename, acForm, "form1", "form1", StructureOnly, StoreLogin, now this form1 has to be seen first when any user doubleclicks m2_user.mdb,so my question is, is there any way i can setup startup form properties dynamically ,without using startup form manually from tool properties of toolbar. hope to get answer.. thanks vsap
Ok, I have a Forms_Menu that has many command buttons which control other functions of the database. What I want, is when a user opens access to have a page displaying a title, and then the Forms_Menu to open up automatically. Does anyone know how to do this???
I am having a problem with my form. When it opens up, it is maximized, which is what I want. However, the vertical scroll bar on the right does not begin at the top of the form, but towards the bottom. I have to scroll up each time so that I can see the top of my form. Is there a way to make the form startup at the top of the form?
I have developed a small database with 3 or 4 forms which works ok on most PC's. But when I put it on a certain PC, it almost works properly except for one form which is very slow accessing the table! Eg. It could take 2 minutes to use a combobox.
All PC's have Access 2000. Would there be a reason for this? Is this an access problem or a PC problem? Are there special settings that I'm unaware of?
I'm wondering if anyone has any idea how I can speed this form up. I have similar forms that don't calculate as much but are much faster when updating the date.
Basically, I have a make table query that pulls all units due to be delivered between a certain time period, that are a specific priority and we input how many days we want to push the delivery date back.
A form opens that shows the Job Code, Run, Door Style, Special Color, Lot Delivery Date, W/O Due Date, W/O Start Date and a Change check box. If the Change check box is selected the W/O Due Date moves back however many days entered. Based on the new W/O Due Date and whether or not a Raised Panel door or Special Color was selected the WOSD resets as well.
Here is the code I have used. It takes a little over a minute to update 1 line and we may need to move several lines. After all the units needed to move are selected, an update query is run updating the information in the actual tables used in the make table query.
Private Sub Change_Exit(Cancel As Integer) If Me.Change = True Then Call UpdateWODDChange Call UpdateWOSDChange End If End Sub
Private Sub Form_Close() DoCmd.OpenQuery "qryUpdateWODDPriorityChange" DoCmd.OpenForm "frmMenu"
I have a form. It has about 75+ bound text boxes, and about 25+ unbound text boxes that calculate values. And about a dozen command buttons. The code behind all this mess prints off in about a dozen pages.
Everything works. BUT, it takes around two or three minutes from clicking to open the form before the form appears. (There is no delay in moving between records.)
If I go into design mode, it takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes for it to save changes.
I noticed things really slowed down as I started copying controls.
Is there anything I can do to speed up this monster?
I am trying to display only my form on startup. Tools-Startup allows you to eliminate"Database window" default menu and toolbar but I can't eliminate "Microsoft Access" window.
I don't know if there are other settings that I am not aware of or there has to be code built.
Sorry if this is a really dumb question - I have just started using Access and I couldn't find the answer to this doing a forum search.
I have made a database consisting of a table and a form. All I want to do is get the form to appear automatically when the database is opened. I am using Access 2007.
I have a couple of buttons on a form that I am havinga little trouble with.
The first button increments an integer variable which changes the colour of a box dependant upon the value. When a new record is opened I want it to be 0 which sets the colour. So on the form load event I have put Status (variable identifier) = 0.
when a new record is pulled up the box is white, should be a different colour, vbgreen, when I click on the button to increment it changes, so where should I put the declaration so that for each new record the colour is reset to the starting colour.
The other slight problme that I have is that another button inserts the time into a memo field. If I click the button again it just over writes the previous time stamp.
Is there a way to put each new click on a new line? Also I want to preced the time stamp with a a statement like the frist click was at time(). The second click was at time(). So I guess that I need to just increment a var for each click to then wrire 1st click, 2nd click etc. But how do I get the "1st click text/2nd click" text and again where do I put this variable so that it begins at 0 for each new record?
I have been building a new db in my personal drive at work which has been working perfectly, until I transfer it to the main network drive so that others can use it.When I try to open it, I now get an error saying that windows cannot access the file (code 0x80070002) - although it does in fact open it anway, eventually.
I have removed and re-instated various bits of code, and discovered that it's linked to the 'Display Form' function within Access Options > Current Database, that I have used to open the form 'Homepage' when the db is opened. When the dropdown is set to 'None', the db opens fine, but when a form is selected, the error occurs. I have tried using an AutoExec macro to open the Homepage form, but this generates the same error too.
i searched for slow loading and found some fast internet packages on <web address removed by moderator>. By following the tips i just purchased now fast broadband but now i am facing the problem of slow loading on my local computer, is it due to any bugg with microsoft package or my system is infected by virus.
I have a Continuous form that is used to place orders in my Purchase order Database. I have a combo box with a Textbox over laid, so the users can type in the Textbox and it filters the combo box as they type. This is to search Nominal ledger codes that the current user has set up.
This has been working fine, but now finding issues as people have 400+ Nominal coeds set up. So there is a lag when the user is typing. Is there a better way of doing this? i have a similar setup to search a supplier but this is not a continuous form and the majority of objects are un bound.
Code:
Private Sub lstSelect_AfterUpdate() Me.lstSelect.RowSource = "qryCurrentNominalNew" End Sub Private Sub lstSelect_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) Me.lstSelect.RowSource = "qryCurrentNominalNew" End Sub
i am using a form like form customer orders in northwind 2003 database. in my form there are 3 sub forms.data of subform1 will be filtered by one of the field in the main form.subform2 will be filtered by one of the field in the subform1 and ...
also i have added some code for highlighting current row of each form/sub form , now my problem is when navigate thorough records of main form by using navigation button , showing each record after pressing navigation button is a bit slow (it takes 5 seconds), problem is from subforms or codes for highlighting current row?
