Can't Save Printer Settings

Sep 10, 2005

I designed a query, opened it and printed it. But the margins were too wide and I needed it to print in landscape also. So I changed the settings and it worked fine, but I can't get it to save the settings. Is it possible to save the printer settings for printing a query, both the margin and the landscape settings. If so, please tell me how. Thanks.

Create Random Number To Be Automatically Generated As Default Value For Record ID

May 28, 2015

I've been building a CRM in Access that allows for creating profiles for our accounts. When we add a new account, I'd like an Account ID to automatically generate and look like this: CRMXXXXX where the X's represent a random number. I originally wanted to set the field as autonumber to just count up, but unfortunately I need to append this value to another sales database we have; you can't store the text "CRM" with an autonumber in a table.

Right now, all I've done is place an equation in the default value of a textbox I have on my 'Add Account' form. I then made the control source of the text box the Account ID field. My equation is as follows:

="CRM" & CStr(Int(Rnd(Now())*10000))

This appears to work, as it generates a value in the correct format. However, I've realized that each time I open the CRM, the random numbers start over again and I run into issues of trying to create a new record with the same ID as a previously created record. I assume I need to incorporate some sort of timestamp to it in order to change it.

Resize Tables And Save Settings

Nov 8, 2014

Under Current Database, I have "Overlapping Windows" checked. When I open a table, it opens to pretty wide. Then I resize it so that it takes up less space. After resizing, whether I click Save or not, after closing, then reopening the same table, it opens back to its original size (very wide), instead of opening at the smaller size that I resized the table to.

Is it possible to resize a table, and get it to open at that size next time you open that particular table?

Automatically Updating Client Settings For Confirm Actions

Feb 27, 2014

how I can automatically change the Client settings either with a macro or code. Specifically for the three confirm actions (Record Changes, Document deletions and Action queries). I have a database that is distributed to end users in different offices around the world. The old way lazy way, was to go to each computer and set these settings to "off" manually, but this isn't possible. I want to be able to run delete queries and action queries in the back end without the end users knowing its happening and having to select yes all the time.

Default Window Dimension Settings When Opening Via .MAF Desktop Shortcut

Mar 19, 2008

Hi there,

My problem seems somewhat simple, but I guess since I'm posting this it was quite the contrary. I've completed my form and have linked all queries and reports and created all my macros for the form. Everything looks great but I when I created a .MAF shortcut to access the form directly from my desktop, it opens the form really big and maximized. Every time I open it, I hit the 'restore down' box-in-box button on the top right and it makes it just how I want it. Can I retain this as a default setting when I open it? I've checked in the Form options but no luck.

Modules & VBA :: Increment Record Default Plus 1 In Subform

Jun 29, 2015

User enters data relevant to placement on data card, in series of 20. Sometimes record lines are skipped on card, meaning user needs to be able to override default value, and then have code +1 for next record. For the output I need, Autonumber won't work, Recordsetclone won't work.

example columns:
weight/length/record

VBA code is set:

Private Sub record_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
Me.record.DefaultValue = Me.record + 1
End Sub

User keying in a number activates the code, but won't recognize the default number.

weight length record
34 34 1 <----user enters
34 34 2 <--- auto populates from code
34 34 2 <---- auto populates from code, doesn't recognize previous record default set from code to output 3.

Any way to achieve the output I want?

Modules & VBA :: How To Automatically Set Cursor To First Record (in Subform Of A Tabcontrol)

Oct 31, 2014

All I have a form called frmMain. This form contains a TabControl named tabMain tabMain has some pages. One of the pages is called pagRecords pagRecords contains a subform called frmRecords. frmRecords contains records from an in-memory table.

My problem: If I select tab pagRecords the cursor is set to the last record.

What I want: as soon I select tab pagRecords, the record cursor must always be set to the first record.

I think this can be done with next code.

Code:

DoCmd.GoToRecord acActiveDataObject, , acFirst

However, I placed this line in a lot of event properties but it is never triggered (I put a break on the line).

So on which object and event should I put this line? (and is acActiveDataObject the right parameter?)

Forms :: How To Make Column Width On A Subform Match Property Settings

Mar 19, 2015

I've set the column widths properly on the subform, but the down arrow on the list box is still outside of the selection area. It may have something to do with lookups or concatenations, but I'm not finding that so in what I can think of to trace down.

I exaggerated the width of the list box to show where the down arrow actually shows itself.

See the form "frm_Class_Skills_Update" in the attached database. I need it to be visible when the list box is about 1.25" more narrow.

I have a form which contains one subform. On the subform I have a command button which saves the record just entered. On the main form I have a "refresh form data" button which updates the main form so that the calculated controls can show the correct results based on the data just entered?

Can anyone tell me how I can get the "save record" button in the subform to subsequently refresh the data in the main form as well, thus saving a button???

Many thanks.

Forms :: Automatically Updating Fields In A Subform From Another Subform

Feb 11, 2014

I am having trouble figuring out the method to automatically update some fields in SubForm from 2 other SubForms.I have attached 2 pics, the first GradeEntry1 shows what the tblTopic_Class_Grade form looks like after I manually enter everything into it. GradeEntry2 is what the form looks like when I fill out the Form starting at the top.

I'd like the tblTopics_Class_Grade form auto-populate the TrainingClassID (it currently does this), TopicClassID, StudentID, TrainingTopicID based off the entry from the above forms. My end goal is that I need to have a grade for each student on each training topic for each class. Like:

Class1-Student1-Topic1-GradeX
Class1-Student1-Topic2-GradeX
Class1-Student2-Topic1-GradeX
Class1-Student2-Topic1-GradeX

Save Subform Changes

Nov 22, 2011

Sendkeys "^s" - Ctrl-S to save the app isn't working.I need to get access to save layout changes made by a user to a subform.I have a subform and some controls on the main form that alter the layout of the subform - some checkboxes that hide and unhide the columns.I also have a button that exports the current contents of the subform to excel.

DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputForm, "MySubForm", acFormatXLS, OutputPath, AutoStart:=-1 (Very happy with how this works!)

The problem is that if the user hides or unhides columns using my checkboxes, these changes are not picked up by the export to Excel until the user saves the subform by closing the form.So I need some code that forces changes made to the subform to be saved, without closing the subform.

DoCmd.Save acForm, "MySubForm" - doesn't work "RunTime Error 2489 - The object isn't open."

What DOES work is clicking the save button in the top left corner of the access application.Sendkeys "^s" for some reason doesn't do anything at all. Code that mimics the main SAVE button in access, or code that will specifically force my subform to save layout changes as it would when closing?

Unable To Save A Record Because A Record Is Required

Oct 31, 2005

I have a database set thus

Clients (the main form)

ClientsID (PK)
blah blah
Information and Referral (a check box)
blah blah
blah blah

ClientIR (the form that opens up when I & R is checked)

IR ID (PK)
ClientsID (FK to the above form)
Requests (a lookup referencing to IRCategory)

The code is set up so when the I R box is checked, form will open, and unchecking it will delete the I R record of that Client.

The problem is when the IR Box is already open, the request has been selected, I cannot save it as Access says a record is required in the Clients form. There are only two buttons, one goes on to next requests (one client can have more than one requests), other saves and closes.

The Client form is already coded so it will save the Client's record before opening the IR Form, and either button will save the IR record as well.

I had referential intergrity turned on. Turning it off only gave me weird results (I was able to input records, but Access didn't autofill the ClientID in the IR records, and looking at Clients returns a blank IR record)

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

I have a form (Record Source = Report_TBL). I've brought in a subform (Record Source = Patient_TBL). I linked the 2 on the field PID.
I've added a command button (Submit).
OnClick for the Submit button I've added in the Event Procedure

Private Sub cmdSubmit_Click()

DoCmd.Save

End Sub

It only saves the data I've put in for the subform.

Can anyone give me any information on how to save all the information from both forms?

Thank you so much for your help!

Forms :: Highlight Unbound Subform Record That Matches Other Subform Record

I have two unbound unlinked subforms residing on a 3rd unbound main form. When I enter the current record on Subform1 I would like the matching record(s) on Subform2 to be highlighted or otherwise formatted. I can get this to work for only the first record on subform2 due to the way I have my code setup on Subform1:

Code:
Private Sub Accounting_Unit_Enter()
'find where AUs match. only works for first Subform2 record
If Me.[Accounting Unit] = Forms!MainForm.[Subform2]!AccountingUnit Then
msgbox "Match"
End If
End Sub

My thought was that I needed to reference the Recordset of Subform2 and search for all AccountingUnits that match the current AccountingUnit of Subform1,
