Tables Changing From Linked To Local At Runtime

Feb 18, 2008

Hi Guys,

This is one of this only times i've had a problem whose answer i couldn't find on this or other forums, so here's the question.

My DBase links to the back end tables
tblBrkdn
tblBrkdnArchive
tblBrkdwnTradespeople
tblBrkdwnTradespeopleArchive

The following two tables are local, not linked
tblBrkdnArchiveTemp
tblBrkdwnTradespeopleArchiveTemp

After running through the following code, all of the four above mentioned linked tables are now local. It's vexing. I'm terribly vexed. If you can help, my status would chnge from vexed to joyous....:

Thx in advance...

' 1) Join all together (Each Table)

Changing Linked Tables

Does anyone know how to change all linked tables in a database to unlinked? I want to save a database for offline testing and want to save the tables as flat tables instead of linked. Is there anyway to do this without bringing them all back in unlinked?

Changing Linked Tables Into Regular Tables

Dec 20, 2007

Hello All,
I currently have a bunch of tables that I have linked to a SQL database. For development purposes (easy of use), I'd like to turn all those tables into regular tables rather than linked so if I take the db offsite, all the data is with me. I realize there will be no updates, etc. but that really doesn't matter for my needs in this case.

Is there a script or an easy way to do this? (besides doing a manual import for a LOT of tables)

I've tried searching but I might not be searching for the correct terminology.

Thanks in advance!

Tables :: Changing Linked Table Names

Mar 3, 2015

I need to update the names of my ODBC linked tables in my Access database, how can I do this without causing issues with my queries/reports?The current linked tables are to a SQL View on a database called mcsrm_live, and called e.g. vwDamagesReportNew

The new SQL views that I need to link to are identical in structure and content and on the same SQL server but different database - forkdw and are called e.g vw_R_Damages

Is there a straightforward process to do this without affecting the queries and reports in my Access db?

Forms :: Runtime Error On Changing Selection

Jul 14, 2015

I have a Main form (MainForm) with two subforms (SFormA, SFormB). These SForms are connected to the MainForm by a control (controlA) and connected to each other by a control (controlB) via an unbound control in the main form, in order to change data in SFormB according to selected record in SFormA. SFormB has an on current event procedure determined to show different things depending on the value of a bound control that changes every time I select a different record in SFormA. Everything works fine when Mainform and SForms first load.

But, when I select a record on SFormA I get a runtime error and everything stops, application closes and reopens, creating a safety copy. It seems to me that the on current procedure on SFormB causes this problem, because if I delete it no error appears (SFormB not showing what I want though). Funny thing is I have another database, same design, same structure, same procedures, (different objects and names of course) and it works perfectly alright. I even recreated the whole database still the same error.

General :: Copy Data From Local Access Table To Linked SQL Server Table?

Jan 13, 2014

I have an MS Access accdb with linked SQL Server 2012 ODBC tables. I am working on a procedure to copy data from local tables to these linked tables (identical schema). I did a simple

Code:

DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO linkedTable SELECT * FROM localTable"

This works, but is very slow. Way too slow. (INSERT copies the data one record at a time).

I would like to copy the data in a bulk operation, or operations that I can execute programmatically.

Forms :: Showing Data From Linked Table And Local Table

Nov 21, 2013

I'm having trouble with a new project I'm working on. The application is mainly going to be used to display data, which comes from a linked table. It has to be a linked table (in my opinion) because it's replaced once per week from a fresh data dump. For each of those records, though, there will be notes made in a local table named "Custom-Data". My trouble is displaying a mix of information from the linked table, "Roster", and "Custom-Data" because linked tables can't be assigned a primary key.

Essentially, when a record is pulled up, a bunch of data from "Roster" will be shown in addition to the comments from "Custom-Data".

General :: How To Cleanly Convert A Linked Table To Local Table

Apr 1, 2015

I have a database that is designed with a front and back end, with the FE linked to the BE. Some potential customers want to play around with the database, and the easiest way for me to get them access to it would be for me to combine the FE and BE and just give them a copy of that. how to link a table, and I know how to import a table. What I'm unsure of is how to cleanly convert a linked table to a local table.

Local Table And ODBC Linked Table Don't Have Same Filter Options

Dec 31, 2014

In a local DB table or a data grid view, the columns have an arrow at the top next to the name. When the arrow is clicked, all the entries in that column are displayed with check boxes. They are listed underneath the "sort" and "text filter" options. I am working on a DB project with ODBC linked tables instead of a local access table.

My linked table does not have this same functionality. It is missing the names with check boxes where I can select individual entries. I don't know the correct terminology for this functionality I am describing. That makes searching tough. What this is called and why the tables would be different.

Copy Linked Table Into A Local Table

Jul 30, 2006

Well, heres the situation. I have a complicated query that refuses to work all the time using a linked table for the data (data is gathered from a FoxPro DB). If I copy the data into a local table in my database then the query will run fine.

The data needs to be updated only 1/month but I don't want to have to do it manually every month. I would like to use VBA to copy and paste the data from the linked table into my local table. Does anyone know of an efficient way to do this? I'm trying to avoid running a VBA loop and adding each record one-by-one (very slow).

Linked Fields Changing On Their Own???

Dec 3, 2007

Hello all...

I have a problem with a single query I have build in Access 2000. Basically, I have a normalised database structure to 3NF. I have a table called Data, a table called Reports and a table called DataReports which cotains the primary keys from both data and reports which are named Data_ID and Report_Id.
Basically, what is happening is I am building a query that returns a record from DataReports using the Data_Id field as criteria as this is held on a form. I create a one to many relationship from the Reports table to the DataReports table using a link from one Report_Id to the other. I save the table and it works fine...once only!! The query is used to feed a list box on a form. The form loads correctly but when I go back into design view to make a change to something else on the form and then go back to form view, I get Data Type Mismatch error. When I look at the query, Access has changed the link from the Report_Id --> Report_Id to Report_Id --> Report_Title which is the next field down in the Reports table. Because all ID's in my database are Autonum's it is trying to link a number to text so I understand why this would not work but I dont understand why on earth access is changing my links. It is very frustrating. Could anyone help me please.

Thank you kindly..

Gareth

When I set it up to fail to find the normal BE it seems to work as intended until it gets to the line "Tdf.RefreshLink". Then it crashes with a 3031 "Not a valid password" error. The code is:

Code:
Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)
Dim Dbs As Database
Dim Tdf As TableDef
Dim Tdfs As TableDefs
Dim NewPathname As String

[Code] ....

I can't find any references or example to relinking a password protected table.

Relinking Multiple Linked Tables That Are Linked To Different Databases

Feb 2, 2012

I have a database with a number of linked tables that are linked to tables in different databases (not a back-end).for example, I have table1 that is linked to table1 in K:databasedb1.mdb.table2 linked to table2 in S:datadata.mdb.and so on...

However, recently we have moved all our databases to a new location.

K:databasedb1.mdb is now residing in O:masterdatabase
and S:datadata.mdb is now residing in O:masterdata
and so on...

I'm now in charge of relinking all those tables to point to the new location.I would do this in linked table manager one by one but we have 100s of tables linked to multiple different databases in different location.is there a way to create a VBA code that will automatically do this re-linking process?

so,
1. find unlinkable tables
2. search its new location under O:master
3. re-link it to the new location

Database names and tables names have not been changed. Just the location of databases.

I have updated my local ODBC connections to use this new information. However, when I added numerous tables to the databases I checked the box to save the password so that it wouldn't prompt me or other users every time I wanted to use the Access database. Is there a way in Access to change this stored password? So far I haven't been able to find one.

Can Delete Tables Via VBA Code In Runtime Environment

Apr 30, 2014

I am close to finishing a new database. In this database I have some VBA code that does a bunch of stuff, one of those things is to check if a temp table exists, and if yes then it will delete it.

Once finished this database will be made available to a range of people via Access Runtime 2010. I'm just wondering will the VBA code that deletes a table work in a Runtime environment?

I guess I should also ask if a save import process will also run via Runtime.just need to make sure that the users that need to do this code have full access if its required.

General :: Publishing Access Tables For Runtime Viewers?

Feb 4, 2013

My office recently purchased Microsoft Access for our secretary to keep track of our contacts. No other employee owns Access so we have to distribute the tables through Access Runtime. However, there seems to be a problem.

I save and publish a database using the Packaging Wizard. I then send the associated folder with the install program to a computer which has Access Runtime installed on it. But, when I install the file I created with Packaging Wizard it just opens an Access window that is completely blank. It's actually the same thing that occurs when I try to open an Access file on a computer that doesn't have Access or Runtime installed on it at all.
