I was wondering if i could get some help here. I think this is to do with the security issue. I usually double-click to open or run an access file (for example student.mdb) that sits on the server with no problem. But this time, nothing happen when i did double-clicked on it from my laptop while the file was being open by someone'else on another computer. I know that it makes sense that we shouldn't open a file that's being used by other users. But my curiosity is that should it not give you a warning like (you know) you're not able to save any changes or things like that. No, i didnot get any of that messages. It's just nothing happen after trying to open it by double-clicking it.
I have set the macro security to low level but that did not help either. Is there any thing that i need to tweak?
Ok this is a weird issue that has been troubling me, On some computers that I have, Access refuses to open databases through a shortcut. The only way to open any databases is to first open access the go to file open.
I've tried creating new shortcuts, as well as mapping a drive and making a shortcut from there...but nothing is working. Is there a setting that access has to preven this? The same database can be opened on different computer without a hitch....
There's possibly a very simple answer to this but it's been boggling my mind all morning and I can't find any answers on the net.
I'm opening a db on a network that was built with Access 2003. When I open it with Access 2003 on one pc it opens fine and I can edit it. But when I open it with Access 2007 I get a message saying that's it's opened the db in read only mode and that if I want to edit it I have to save a copy.
I tried opening the db exclusively but still no luck. Is there a reason why it's doing this and how do I get around it?
I have a button on a form, when it is clicked it opens a video file located in a folder on the local computer. Each time the button is clicked a security pop up appears that says "Opening file://C:lahblahyadayadaFile.mp4 Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file?" options are open or cancel. How can these messages be turned off?
I have already played around in the trust center of Access 2010 and changed the "trusted documents", "trusted locations", and "message Bar" tabs with no results. Do I have to play with regedit in windows to get rid of these pop ups? Or can I somehow use VBA code to disable them? They are just a nescience.
I have a database that is used in academic labs by student workers. In order for them to open the database they have to double click on the actual file via a network folder. This works for all but one computer. It will only open the file if they open Access first. It seems very strange to me seeing as other computers in that same lab (all the same image) will open it via double clicking. I have googled till my eyes bled but haven't found a solution. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
We have an access Database stored on a server that until now was only ever accessed by the one user. Now more users need to access it at the same time. However when a second user trys to open the database the error message "File Already in use appears". I did not create this database so have no idea how it was set up. I think it may have something to do with being opened up exclusively. Is there anyway around this by creating a short cut or changing any kind of propertties?
I have a PC with Windows 7. I installed Access 2003 (which opens OK) but .mdb files will not load ie my old saved Access files. How can I load these files into Access 2003?
I just recently helped a local business move their files to a new server, and reinstall fresh windows and office on all their machines. I have run into a problem with Access, hoping someone can help.
Sometimes (usually when someone else has the file open), if you double click on the mdb file (which is on a mapped drive) nothing happens. If you make a shortcut that doesnt help. But if you open Access, and then goto File-Open and located the MDB file that way, it opens fine.
This is annoying to the employees and they want a solution.
I have a very simple table of basically a unique number and a couple data fields. On my form with those same fields, I need to be able to create a button that opens a pdf file that is named the same as that unique number. Here is the kicker...I have been able to create a hyperlink with a link to that file and it works fine.... I am trying to set it up so that the file name is automatically put into the hyperlink statement according to what the unique number is for each record.
what I did so far...
in my hyperlink: *file://c:/docubase/3840.pdf (only put * in so not a link here)
this works fine but I need the syntac to make that line take into account the account field (ID) for each record. So something similar to this (already tried this and it doesnt work)
I am very close to completing a DB Program.... How can I create a desktop Icon that will Launch my Program without Loading Microsoft Access along with it???
I am trying to setup a webpage for people to update access 2000 db using FP2000 and DRW. I do not want update all fields in a record though - a couple of them are static. I have been unable to do this. I am using code lifted from another page and DB that does exactly the same thing for the update. I either get the error data type mismatch, or I should provide default values for all form related fields, or no records get updated. Is there anyone who can point me inthe right direction? Thanks, Tim
I have a form whose fields are calculated based off VBA code, including fuctions, SQL, etc. Because of the nature of my form, I cannot save the calculations to a table before exporting to and excel spreadsheet.
When I use the File>Export feature of Access and save to and Excel format, I am not able to change the format of my numbers in Excel. For example, I have tried to highlight some of my exported numbers, right-click, and change the format to currency in Excel (or even decimal places). In order for excel to change the format, I have to select the cell, place my cursor in the edit window, and hit enter.....then the format will change.....is there any way to avoid this?
Please let me know if this isn't clear, and I'll attempt to explain it better.
I have a form which has a links to a table of student ID's. I also have a project folder where images and documents are loaded into. These can be jpegs, bitmaps, gifs, office files (all types) etc
The files are named by the user and dropped into the folder. The name relates to the student ID. For example student: 3001 can have multiple files: 3001.jpg, 3001.doc, 3001.ppt etc.
When each record (student ID) is displayed on screen I need a list box (or something) to display the files associated with this student ID. Then, if possible, the user can double click on the file(s) to open them in the computers default program.
I'd be really grateful for any help on this one. It's got me baffled. I'm only a starter to VBA.
I'm trying to import about 18 excel spreadsheets into one database in Access. I've been using "get external data" to import the spreadsheets as tables, and the first 8 of them worked fine, but now I cannot import any more excel files. The only error message I'm getting is "An error occurred trying to import file 'C:....xls' The file was not imported." And this error pops up after I have gone through all of the importing steps. Did I exhaust Access's resources? It's not a format issue, and I've restarted, etc. I'm at a loss.
I am trying to clean up one field of a large database. Currently this field has many records that are listed as "XXXX, Inc.". I am trying to find a way to change all of those to "XXXX Inc" in the entire database.
I saw raskews code snippet on changing multiple characters in a string, but I have to admit I have only use VBA in Excel before and having a hard time with the basics.
Does anyone have some code or ideas on how to do this or something similar?
Edit:I just realised i had accidently writted the title as (to do with importing access data) it should read (to do with importing excel data)This is going to be a trick hard to understand question but I will try my best to explain itI have a database set out in the following wayhttp://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1350/databasetableli1.pngThe way it works is; Let's pretend Access Programmers is a company and working on different forums is a different jobSo on one record it would readJames.90| Access Programmers|Tables Forum| Wed=3= Mon=2Then the record below might readJames.90| Access programmers | Forms Forum| mon=5 tue=6So each record is one unique company,Project and CTR which the person has worked for that week meaning if you only work on one forum you would only write one record out each weekNow the data i am receiving is in an excel file where it's set out in a daily basis Where One Day Date|Name|Company|CTR|etcSo if a person works 5 days a week on 2 companies each day that is 10 records when it should only be 2 recordsSo to sum it up. My database is set out weekly and the excel data is set out dailyMy questionWhat would be the best way to convert this data into the database. Changing the database structure around is not an option and i can't change the format we recieve the excel data in. I can change it once i have the file thorough a converter but i can't change the raw source of the dataWhat would be a way to solve this problem because i am completly stummted and am open to any option of converting or anythingThankyou for your time. Also if you have trouble understanding what i mean Please say so and i will upload a copy of the database and a copy of the excel sheet!
Hello, I have getting type conversion errors for numeric and currency fields when importing an Ecxel spreadsheet into a Table in Access. I have tried changing the data type to text in Excel, and that is what it says I have done when I examine the field formats in question. How can I force this to be text, it keeps reverting, i.e. the fields in question, to numeric and currency. Can anyone help? Thank you. Joe
The company I am consulting with uses Access 2000 and has no intentions of upgrading. I currently do not own Access on my laptop.
I was planning to purchase Access 2003 for my laptop but am concerned that files I create in 2003 might not be "editable" in 2000 even if I choose the 2000 format when creating new databases.
I'm just wondering if anyone has tried creating a file in 2003 (using the 2000 format - as I'm told you can choose what format you want to use) and then edited it in 2000. I want my client to be able to edit the files in 2000 once I've moved on. (I can get 2003 for about the same price as 2000 - so my preference would be to get 2003.) The other obvious reason for going for 2003 is that I could run into the reverse challenge if I own 2000 and my next client uses 2003. At that point, I'd be forced to upgrade to 2003.
My databases are not complex - but do include some customized macros.
I have to write a code for my database,i have folder with files "pending Review" and a table with column "tblExcelLocation". when i run my database all the files from pending review folder goes to "tblExcelLocation" on a click of button. But,if the files already exists it should not insert those files and insert the rest. For this i tried to write a code but i think i m unable to do that .
Code: Loop through files in folder folderspec = "O:QA FilesQC ReportingPending Review" Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set f = fs.GetFolder(folderspec) Set fc = f.files
I have a database (.mdb file) which includes a table, forms and VB code. I intend on putting it onto a CD and then opening the form on another computer which may not have Access. Is this possible? Can I convert the file or can I attach some type of reader to the disk? I have seen some software for download on the internet which allows you to open the tables however the Form is the most important thing in this case (but I take it whatever I use, it will need to be able to view the VB, subforms and tables as well since the Form depends on them?).
...also can I install an auto-run to the file for when the disk is inserted? (this is not a major issue though).
 is ther anyway to lock ms access files , so that people would not be able to modify then and only view them, would not get to vbs screen etc, and give a limited password that will expire in given ammount of time.
Hi, I’m trying to Import an external CSV file in to Access and then Update/Add the record into a table. I need to be able to do it using SQL and I’m not allowed to touch RecordSet! Does anyone know How I could do this or where I would be able to find help on this.
We are running two versions of Access (97 and 2003) on some of our machines. We recently set up a new workgroup file, but it seems that on the machines that have the two versions of Access the workgroup file reverts back to the old setting everytime the user logs in again. What do we need to do to prevent the workgroup file from switching back?
