Unbound Fields In Query Not Working
Sep 30, 2005
Hi
I have a from with unbound fields on and i have it set up so when you type in the field click the button - it runs a query and finds the records.
I have tried to add a combo box that gets the actual value from the field (avoids people typing wrongly) which it finds the values fine, but the query does not seem to be able to returns to results for that value selected via the combo box.
Any advice would be good?
Thanks
Scott

I'm trying to get this query to return all records except those with category: 4 AND issue: 12
Instead I'm always getting ZERO category: 4 and ZERO issue: 12
Should not the parenthesis force this to be taken as a single "WHERE"?
SELECT ASSIGNED_TO, COMPLAINT_NUM, DATE_RESOLVED, CATEGORY, ISSUE
FROM tmptbl_tm_YTD
WHERE (CATEGORY<>4 AND ISSUE<>12);

Code:
Private Sub Report_Open(Cancel As Integer)
Me.CheckNotPaid = False
End Sub
but it just says 'Runtime Error -214..You can't assign a value to this object'

Access 2010. I've had to learn it at work because our DBA was let go and I was the only one willing to give it a go. Read a book or two and picked up some stuff on the internet.
Here's my problem:
I have a simple table -Employee with 4 fields. FirstName, LastName, Office and JobTitle. I have form called Form1 that has 3 control fields cboJobTitle (a combo box that is populated by a query that finds all the unique values of that field in the Employee table), cboOffice (same as above) and txtName (a text box to allow user input) that are used as the criteria for a multi-field query triggered by a button at the bottom of the form. The idea being that you could do a search using this form to find all the employees in one office or all the accountants in one office, or any other combination.
The main search query has the following criteria for each field -
Like [forms]![Form1]![cboOffice] & "*"
Like [forms]![Form1]![cboJobTitle] & "*"
Like [forms]![Form1]![txtName] & "*"
It works great...until I enter a record where one of those fields may be null, such as if I leave the JobTitle blank.
If I have two employees in an office in one city and then do a search for all the employees in that office, it only returns one record and ignores the one that has the null value in the JobTitle field.

I have a form created by using the wizard and selecting fields from a particular table. I have added three unbound fields to this form that are connected to other tables. My question is when I hit the escape key all of the fields that are bound will clear their information. The unbound fields will not clear. I want the unbound fields to clear their information when I hit the escape key as well. Can someone tell me how to do this?
Thanks.

I have 2 fields in an MS Access form "BTKForm" sending and picking up data form a bank terminal.
Code is executed by clicking a Button on the form.
Field 1, "IssuerID", is an Unbound field picking up a code from the bank terminal. It's numbers between 0 and 100, representing the Card provider.
Field 2 - "IsID", is a value field linked to a table.
I want to take care of (save) (copy) "IssuerID" in to "IsID".
Code:
Public Sub TransferAmount_Click()
Set BAX = CreateObject("BankAxeptSrv.BankAxeptAutomation")
If BAX.Connected And BAX.LicenseVerified And Not BAX.BankMode Then
Dim amnt As Long
Dim cashb As Long
amnt = Round(Amount.Value * 100)
[Code] .....

I total novice at VBA. I am trying to code a button to modify (the last) record in a subform list and then add a new record based on values in unrelated or unbound fields on the button form.
The following code is based on the first of two YouTube tutorials (this bit on the edit) and looks like it should work. Except that my Access 2010 with Visual Basic for Aplication v7 does not recognise the type definition Database or Recordset
Code:
Private Sub ANOwner_Click()
Dim cn As Integer
Dim db As Database
Dim rs As Recordset
Set db = CurrentDb
[Code] .....

I'm trying to build a form based on a table where the user can also enter data to update the table but with data fields not originally in the table. Below is a summary of what I have and what I need:
1.) A file that will be uploaded daily into a Table (ie name Denials extract table).
2.) A form bound to table Denials extract
3.) Additional fields that will be updated by users that is not included in this table b/c they are not available in the system we are getting the data extract from.
4.) The user will look up a key field that will allow them to review it in our system. Once they "work" the record, there will be multiple fields that they will update with this information that are not in the bound recordsource (table Denials extract).
Do I create another table with these fields even though they will be blank at first and make them a subform that will have a "primary key field" that will link the main form with the subform? Will they need to "update" a whole new table? Not really sure how that would work since they will be updating fields not in the bound table.

I have form with an unbound combo box which is populated from a query
It should populate a field in a table which is related to another - however it only works when i query by id number (primary key) and not the text value i want - is it possible to query both so it returns say 1,option 1 - then when selected it will place a 1 in the table - which is related to option 1 in another table instead of just having to select '1' which will mean nothing to a user?

Working on a report that displays multiple pie charts. Each chart is based on a different query. I cannot pull a single query for all charts due to the criteria for each conflicting with each other. Each query is filtered by Fiscal Year based on what I input into my Fiscal Year Filter form. The command button on the FY Filter Form opens the report, set TempVar to the FY field (the criteria for each query), and closed the FY Filter Form. This works as I want it to.
The problem: I have additional fields I want to show up on the form such as number of completed students (WINGED). This number is based on yet another query where all completed students are counted [WingedCount]. I have tried to write an expression to an unbound field that points at this [WingedCount] field but it does not work. Then, I changed the report's source as the query with the [WingedCount] field. This does work, however this is where I run into an issue
I open my FY Filter Form and type in my criteria and select the open command button. However, now I am asked for the criteria again for each chart on the report.
I need a way to input the criteria only once and have all charts populate as well as my count field.
I have attached a jpeg of my current report and will upload jpegs of the needed output following this post.

I've created a table for a college project and realised that one of my calculated fields isn't working. It doesn't produce an error message, it just doesn't calculate.
IIf([CycleSpeed]<10,[CycleTime]*236,IIf(10<=[CycleSpeed]<12,[CycleTime]*354,IIf(12<=[CycleSpeed]<14,[CycleTime]*472,IIf(14<=[CycleSpeed]<16,[CycleTime]*590,IIf(16<=[CycleSpeed]<=20,[CycleTime]*708,IIf([CycleSpeed]>20,[CycleTime]*944,0))))))

I have some code like this that sets some fields up to be disabled when the form loads, then enables them when a combo box ('Type') is selected to 'Instrument'. This works fine as far as it goes, but if the user has selected 'Instrument' and then goes to a new record, the fields remain enabled.
Private Sub Form_Load()
Me.CalibrationTolerance.Enabled = False
Me.AcceptanceLimit.Enabled = False
End Sub
[Code] ....
I've looked this up and it appears I need to use the property Form.NewRecord, but nothing I do seems to make it work.

I recently made a new version of our database complete with forms, querys etc.. using Access 2010. It looked good and nice, but we encountered an unexpected problem. In all forms that contains memo-type fields quick filter is not working (there is no lists, checkboxes etc..). My users really like quick filters and are understandably irritated. I would understand if this disappearance would affect only memo-type fields, but it affects ALL the fields.
I also know that there are problems with memos in Access 2010. I have tried to make new forms, but every time I add memo fields quick filter stops functioning. I have also tried to change properties, options and what not, but to no use. In older versions of our forms this feature works just fine, but they were made in older version of Access (don't know which since oldest ones are from year 2003).

Any help would be appreciated.

When I have my form I have an unbound control called rtdDate. In rtdDate's AfterUpdateEvent I have it run a append query. Within the append query I have the following:
RTD Date: forms!masterListQ!rtdDate
Yet it keeps coming up blank when you run the query. Its like its not finding the value of it. I'm sure you can tell I'm pretty much an amateur at database building but I thought this would be pretty easy.
What am I doing wrong?

Hey guys im really stuck on this one and hope some one can help me out.
I have the following structure:
Table: Products
ID
Product Name
Table: Suppliers
ID
Supplier Name
Table: Prices
ID
Product Name
Supplier Name
Supplier Offer
Query: QrySuppliers
Prices.ID
Prices.Product Name
Prices.Supplier Name
Prices.Supplier Offer
Percent Off Trade: IIf(IsNull([Products]![Trade Price Euros]),0,([Products]![Trade Price Euros]-Nz([Prices]![Supplier Price],0))/[Products]![Trade Price Euros])
Because the "Percent Off Trade" field is unbound to a table I cant get the data into a report, instead every time I open the report it asks me for Products!Trade Price Euros :(
I've never tried doing complicated calculations in Access and would reallly appreciate any suggestions you guys could give me.
I tried to attatch the database but its 508kb so if anyone has a spare second and wants to check it out heres the link http://www.jeron.co.uk/Products.zip
once again thanks!

Here's the situation.
I have a calculated value in an unbound textbox (avghcppmw). I want to run a query (qinsphistory) in which one of the fields is the value of the textbox (avghcppmw).
Is there any way to pull the value from the form and display it in the query. I'm assuming not.
I also assume the only way to do this would be to create a query that would calculate the textbox value and base (qinsphistory) on the newly made query.
Is this correct?

I have a value in an unbound field on a Form, which is 1234 OR 765 OR 356.
In the QBE criteria grid, I used builder to reference this form:
Forms!myform!myunboundfield
The column this is in is for the ID field, which is a number.
However, it is not filtering the data correctly. If I copy the above text and paste it into the QBE grid, then it will work. But when I reference it, it fails. If I change the value to just a number on my unbound field, it works. So the issue seems to be that its bringing across the text as a string and so perhaps effectively puts quotes around it when referencing it.

I have a query that appends a new record to a table called "tblMain". The tblprogeny I am querying does not have two fields the 'tblMain' has (Group and Location). By the mere nature of this type data, the value for both fields are static thus I did not include them on the data entry form for the tblProgeny. I would like to include them on the append query if I can. One field is "Group"with the static value at "Non-Active" and the other is "Location" where the static value is "Nursery"
I have tried to use the following expressions in the criteria field of each respective field slot of the query:
[tblgroup.group to tblmain.group] 'Where ([tblgroup.group]= "Non-Active")'
[tbllocation.location to tblmain.location] 'Where([tblLocation.Location]= "Nursery")'
But it gives me an error that my syntax is not right? tblgroup.group to tblmain.
