Use DLOOKUp And Trim In Calculated Control On A Form

I am trying to use DLOOKUp and Trim in a calculated control on a form - D look up works but when i add Left trim to trim a telephone number to just the prefix - it wont work

=DLookUp("[CSP]","[Csp_Codes]","[Data] = '" & [Forms]![Application_Frm]![CommsData_tbl subform].[Form]![Data] & "'") - Works OK
=DLookUp("[CSP]","[Csp_Codes]","[Data] = '" & [Forms]![Application_Frm]![CommsData_tbl subform].[Form]![Left](Trim([Data]),7) & "'") - appears to put square brackets around Left ??

Dlookup In Calculated Control

Hi,

I am trying to create a calculated field in a query which uses another value in the query to lookup a table. I get an error running the query :

"Microsoft Access can't find the name 'Indcat' you entered in the expression."

The expression I am using is as follows:

Expr1: DLookUp("[Class]","Class","([Indcat] = [Clind]) AND ([2007] Between [From] AND [To])")

Indcat and 2007 are valid field names in the query.

I used this Dlookup in a form and it worked fine (with Form! etc references to Indcat and 2007)

Calculated Control On Form Won't Save

Hi,
I am a first time user to access groups, so I am hoping for a
good experience.

I have a form which has a calculated control. But the calculation
shows on the form but is not storing in the record.

On the property sheet, the name is charge and the control source is
the calculation (=[source1]+[source2]...)

Why is it displaying but not storing? I do not know Visual Basic, so I would
like a solution that is simple if there is such a thing.

Forms :: Form Calculated Control Using Calculations From A Query

All I'm after is, to sum in all records "where" reconcileDate (on the sub=form) = today in both the credit and debit fields and minus one from the other. I have a simple form and sub-form. On the sub-form I have a query based calculation that returns the following..."if ReconcileDate (on sub-form) = today, then show Debit value in yndebit" textbox..Likewise with the credit box, and all works perfectly fine.

However, I can't seem to sum these two boxes. Because the circled textboxes are query based, I've used the query as the control source (and not the text boxes) and all I get is an #ERROR? when placed in the form footer. I've tried to do this using the textboxes as the control source, and still nothing. I've tried to add a calculated control on the form itself, and still #ERROR? or #NAME? despite knowing exactly how to reference subforms within forms (this I've become quite an expert at as I simply use query design to make sure I have the correct path and control)anyway.

Forms :: Refer To A Calculated Value In Unbound Control In A Form

In my DB i would like to make a form that displays different calculated values based on other forms and queries like income running cost etc., but i do not know how to refer in an unbound control to value of a control in another form. I get always #names? error. However it worked when loaded that form i refered to. Is there a way to do it without loading the refered form?

Left Trim / Right Trim

Hello,

Does anyone know of a way that I can get rid of characters off a product code so all I am left with is just the characters greater than zero?

Example...

AA0000000652618... I only want to be left with 652618.

Would it be best to use a left trim or to use a right trim function? Unfortunately there is no standard for the product numbers... meaning that some numbers are 15 characters in length (as is above) but others maybe shorter or longer...

Also where I would add in the Right or Left Trim piece of code?

I currently have a DLookUp formula in a Text Box Control Source. It returns the value I am looking for, however, the value will not add to the record. I have tried putting the DLookUp formula in the Default Property, but it is not working.It is a multi-criteria DLookUp, where the criteria is entered into the form.

Modules & VBA :: Using DLookup / DCount To Control Duplicates

I am trying to put in a control measure which won't allow the user to accidentally add a client to areferral more than once. The simplified relationship structure reads:

tblClient 1-------n tblClientReferral n---------1 tblReferral

I am as a far as using a dlookup which correctly gives the error message, but only if it is the first client added to the tblClientReferral table. If the hypothetical situation arises in which the user adds a client, then adds a second client to the referral and accidentally adds the second clientn twice, the Dlookup is not picking this up.

I suppose the solution is using a dlookup which has the criteria saying if the referralID = 'this' AND the clientID = 'this' Then 'do this'. But as far as I am aware you cannt use AND in the criteria?? atleast, it hasn't worked when I tried. A snippet of the vba code used is below:

Dcount Vs SQL(VBA) For A Calculated Control

Here is the SQL that A2K gives me for the query that has the actions I want it to perform. But I can't get it to give me a count of the number of records returned. I would love to use DCOUNT but I am having a tough time working it out. Also in the final soultion, the numbers 2 and 23 are fields that I have 2 = weekday and 23 = [weekday] + [tt] which are in a different table. If someone could help me out with the DCOUNT formula, I would be forever appreciative.

if i have formula in a text box can that calculation be stored in a table???

example

sales total

sales tax

grand total

where grand total = sales tax+sales total

if the control is bounded to a field in a table once the formula is entered doesnt it loose the connection with the field???

right now when i enter a formula in a control it will no longer store it in the table but it will only show the result in the actual form..???

I am trying to create a form with multiple combo boxes where users can select fields from my main database and click a button to generate a report based on their selections. I think I am supposed to create a generic report with perhaps 4 fields where I would link the four combo boxes to. The issue is I cant seem to get the selection of the combo box to change the field that the report should pull from the database. I think I am supposed to use dlookup in the reports control source for each field, but I cant seem to get it to work.

DLookup In Control Source Of Text Box Only Returns Value When Clicked On

I have 3 text boxes on a form each of which gets their values from different queries using DLookup this is functional but only when I click on the text box its self, I have tried using the "On load" & "On current" to requery the textbox (Text38 as control name) but no luck,, another strange thing i've noticed, when I have the form open in access and i click on my taskbar, thus switching windows from access to the desktop but keeping access in view, all text boxes are calculated immediately.

Queries :: Form With Datasheet View - Trim Data In A Query

I am trying to create a form with a datasheet view that will show me all exceptions worked on all member accounts. I have over 10k members that each could have multiple issues (exceptions) worked on their account. I am using MS Access 2007.

Example: I have a member John Smith, with member id of 1234-00 that has multiple "exceptions" worked on his membership, say 5 database records for his account. My initial query I only want to see him listed once. I then would double click his Member ID to open all activity of his account.

I found the code below and modified it to fit my database and it brings me back the results I need for the above. However, if a material change is made on John Smith's account, his number is incremented. His number would be incremented to 1234-01. The next material change 1234-02, etc. I am looking to modify the code below, or another way to do it, that ignores the "-" and any numbers after it. The numbers before the "-" will never change. I searched and saw the TRIM function but couldn't get it to work.

Below is the code I'm using that has the correct names from my database. I have a primary key set up that increments and is tied to the exception, not the member id.

Forms :: Calculated Control Value Appears But Disappears

I have a calculated control on a form that is summing other controls and then a subtotal on a subform. This is access 2007

The calculated control does not display the value until I enter a value other then the default in all of the source controls. If I hit the "refresh" button, the value appears in the calculated control for a moment, then disappears.

I have set the default of the source controls to be 0, so none are null.

the calc control value does not stay until I put a value in the subform and its subtotal thus has a value

Eventhough i know calculated control are for queries, I still need to store a calculated value of a sum. I have a form with customers, dates, locations. That form has a subform that contains the services done and materials used. This subform is in datasheet view. In the footer i have a control with =Sum([Price]).

So I need the value of this control to be stored in the table the main form is based on. I did an unbound control in the main form where the =Me!Subform.Form!.Textx will bring the value "over" Then for the on focus event the vba code Me.Total=Me.Textx stores the value. That is fine. The same works with a command button with the same vba code.

However i am asking if there is a more automatic way to get the value over without the unbound control/command button.

I have a report and in the footer I have added a text box (Textbox136) to work out the average percentage of the field [Percentage], which works fine.

For the value in textbox136 I want to output a grade and want to use an IIF function in the control source, something like:

IIf([Textbox136]>=100,"A+",IIf([Textbox136]>=90,"A+",IIf([Textbox136]>=80,"A",IIf([Textbox136]>=70,"B",

But it won't work.

I'd like to just be able to create a form and the write in the control source as it look neater (and it the right way to do it) then subforming a query for one text box.

I have a search from that has an option group, text fields, and a checkbox where the users selects a variety of option that generates a query. If the query return at least on record a split form (form on top/datasheet on bottom) is displayed and the form has an Edit and Close button. If the query returns no records the form is still displayed except the buttons are not visible.

If I knew the result of the query and then made a decision whether to open the form or release control back to the search box that would be great. To open the form I am using VBA with the DoCmd.OpenForm(,,"MyQuery","criteria") command.I thought about using the DLookup command and evaluate the return value for null to be used to control the program flow.

I'm trying to pull a date from a table into a text box on a form tab control using DLookup and I just can't figure out what is wrong with my DLookup expression:

=DLookUp("DateOrdered","tDateOrdered","PrNumber=" & [PrNumber]) ----- (DateOrdered is short date, PrNumber is text, db is split Access 2013)

Whats missing in this expression? I've tried every criteria variant I could find but to no avail.

New Field Does Not Show In Control Source For Form Control

I have table that I had to add a new field to which we update with a form. I tried to add a control for the new field but the field does not show up in the list for the control source. I am trying to add a list box to the form with a blank and 5 options.

I have attached screen shots of the table design and the form. The table has the field in datasheet view and I have manually entered a few entries in it but it still will not show in the control source for the form control. The top section of the form is where we enter and select the data for the new records. The bottom section (circled in red) autofills the matching record, from separate tables, for updating with the new entries.

I have added form controls for modified fields in the past so I am confused about why this is happening.

Trim Numbers

Tried to search for this, maybe I am searching the wrong term.

Anyways.. I have a table linked from a large mainframe, and what I am trying to do is trim any numbers that are 1 million and over, and still keep it a number.

Currently I have this:

VEHICLE_KMS2: IIf([VEHICLE_KMS]>999999,Left([VEHICLE_KMS],6),[VEHICLE_KMS])

What I need is to have it remain as a number, seems that the left function turns it into a string value.
