'Invalid Column Number' When Importing

Jun 16, 2003

When I try to import a Pervasive table into SQL Server 2K, I get the error msg of 'Invalid column number'.

Is that because SQL Server cant handle more than 1024 columns ?

I think my Pervasive table has more than 2000 columns

Thanks in advance

SQLDescribeParam With Subselect: Invalid Parameter Number/Invalid Descriptor Index

Apr 21, 2008

Hello,

I've got the following query:

SELECT zA."ID" AS fA_A
, zA."TEXT" AS fA_B
, (
SELECT COUNT(zC."ID")
FROM Test."Booking" AS zC
) AS fA_E
FROM Test."Stack" AS zA
WHERE zA."ID" = ?

With this query I call:
- SQLPrepare -> SQL_SUCCESS=0
- SQLNumParams -> SQL_SUCCESS=0, pcpar = 1
- SQLDescribeParam( 1 ) -> SQL_ERROR=-1, [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid parameter number", "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid Descriptor Index"

Is there a problem with this calling sequence or this query? Or is this a problem of SQL Server?

Markus

Importing Excel Sheet Which Have Dynamic Column Name And Dynamic Number Of Columns

Aug 25, 2007

Hi Craig/Kamal,

I got your email address from your web cast. I really enjoyed the web cast and found it to be
very informative.

Our company is planning to use SSIS (VS 2005 / SQL Server 2005). I have a quick question
regarding the product. I have looked for the information on the web, but was not able to find
relevant information.

We are getting Source data from two of our client in the form of Excel Sheet. These Excel sheets
Are generated using reporting services. On examining the excel sheet, I found out that the name
Of the columns contain data itself, so the names are not static such as Jan 2007 Sales, Feb 2007 Sales etc etc.
And even the number of columns are not static. It depends upon the range of date selected by the user.

I wanted to know, if there is a way to import Excel sheet using Integration Services by defining the position
Of column, instead of column name and I am not sure if there is a way for me to import excel with dynamic
Number of columns.

Your help in this respect is highly appreciated!

Thanks,

Hi Anthony, I am glad the Web cast was helpful.

Kamal and I have both moved on to other teams in MSFT and I am a little rusty in that area, though in general dynamic numbers of columns in any format is always tricky. I am just assuming its not feasible for you to try and get the source for SSIS a little closer to home, e.g. rather than using Excel output from Reporting Services, use the same/some form of the query/data source that RS is using.

I suggest you post a question on the SSIS forum on MSDN and you should get some good answers.

Invalid Character Value For Cast Specification Error Upon Importing Text File

Apr 23, 2007

Hi all--Given a table called "buyers" with the following column definitions in a SQL Server 2005 database:

[BUYER] [nvarchar](40) NULL,

[DIVISION] [nvarchar](3) NULL,

[MOD_DATE] [datetime] NULL

This table is laden with Unicode data and the MOD_DATE contains no data--not even NULL values, and is giving me a headache as a result. I can export this data fine to a text file, but when I create an SSIS package to attempt import to another table defined exactly the same as above in another place, I get the following messages:

"BUYER";"DIVISION";"MOD_DATE"
"108 Joon-Hyn Kim";"TAD";""
"109 Kang-Soo Do";"TAD";""

Can anyone suggest a course of action on how to handle the error when the MOD_DATE field is completely empty?

Thanks in advance,

Invalid Number Of Result Bindings - Help Please!

Nov 13, 2007

Hello, I am very, very new to the world of SSIS and from a totally different platform (iSeries), learning, digging and finding golden nuggets as I go. If this is not the forum to which I should be addressing my dilemma, please let me know as to whom or where I should direct it to. I have presented this question at two other forums, and I find it difficult to believe that no one is able to help me.

My two questions are as follows:

Question One:

I am presently encountering the following exception.

SSIS package "DW.CUST_CNCL_ORD.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC00291E2 at BP Parter Exec SQL, Execute SQL Task: There is an invalid number of result bindings returned for the ResultSetType: "ResultSetType_Rowset".
Task failed: BP Parter Exec SQL
Warning: 0x80019002 at DW CUST_CNCL_ORD: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (1) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
SSIS package "DW.CUST_CNCL_ORD.dtsx" finished: Failure.

Try as I do to find information regarding this exception, I am not able to. Can anyone share their wisdom on this topic?

Question two:

Is there a book that you may recommend that will contribute to my learning this new platform and evironment? I presently have the SQL Server 2005 integration services book.

Sample code follows:

SELECT BUS_YY_ID AS RBUS_YY_ID, BUS_PRD_ID AS RBUS_PRD_ID, BUS_PRD_STRT_DT AS RBUS_PRD_STRT_DT,
BUS_PRD_END_DT AS RBUS_PRD_END_DT
FROM BP.BUS_PRD_DT
WHERE (BUS_YY_ID = ?)

The first parameter is defined as parameter 0 - Direction is Input

Subsequent parameters are defined as follows:

Variable Name Direction Parameter Name Current_Year Input 0
RBUS_YY_ID Output 1
RBUS_PRD_ID Output 2
RBUS_PRD_STRT_DT Output 3
RBUS_PRD_END_DT Output 4

Result is defined as follows:

Result Name Variable Name
1 RBUS_YY_ID
2 RBUS_PRD_ID
3 RBUS_PRD_STRT_DT
4 RBUS_PRD_END_DT

Thank you in advance for any information you may provide.

Restore Gives 'invalid Logical Page Number' Error

Jun 24, 1999

We tried to restore an empty database from a backup and got:
'Load database encountered an invalid logical page number' error.
This then set the database as 'loading'

Anyone got any ideas?

We aren't exactly sure how big the first database was when the backup was done but if the new database isn't big enough to contain the backed up data, wouldn't we get a more meaningful error?

Importing Text Files With Different Number Of Columns

Oct 6, 2007

Hi!

I have a bit of a problem with importing (DTS Package) from a text file into an existing DB.

The file has no column names and every file only contain 1 row. This row varies in number of columns.

My first thought was to create a table with the maximum numbers oc columns that can appear in the text file.
An example:

Table with 4 columns; Col001, Col002, Col003 and Col004

The first text file:
123,Peter,Ocean Street,NY

The second text file:
356,John,Park Avenue

My aim is that the second file should append to the table, leaving Col004 as (NULL)

Any ideas how to get this to work?

Adding Numeric Data To A Dataflow In A Scriptcomponent-&&> Invalid Number In OLE Db Command Transformation

Jun 9, 2006

Hi there,

This seems a bug to me. Or does anyone has a logical explanation that escapes me?

When in SSIS Designer Version 9.00.1399.00 I add output columns (numeric 4,0 ) to a scriptcomponent and fill them with valid numeric data in thescript I get a database error 'invalid number' when I use these columns in an OLE db Command-transformation . This errormessage disappears when I replaces those columns by a dataconversion to the datatype they originally have.

Derived Column Name Derived Column Expression

STATUS_DEF Replace 'STATUS_DEF' (DT_NUMERIC,4,0)STATUS_DEF

Maybethis info is usefull for somebody else who can't figure out wathever he's doing wrong.

If @Location != "No Preference"

Exec(@strSql)

The Error I get is:
"Error 207: Invalide Column Name 'Select * from table WHERE'
Invalid Column Name 'No Preference'

I have checked the table and the columns do exist, spelled correctly and caps are all the same. Also, this same SP in another table works just fine.

What is causing this error?

Invalid Column Name 'x'

Feb 16, 2001

Can anyone tell me why I get the above message using the following stored procedure and passing in a value of 120:
CREATE Procedure qryAnalysisCountMain
(@WizardGroup1Question int)
As
EXEC("SELECT QuestionDescription FROM Questions WHERE QuestionCode = " + @WizardGroup1Question)

120 just happens to be the asci value of 'x' and whatever number I pass in gets converted into it's character equivalent and the sp tells me it can't find that column name. QuestionCode is an int field so there is no problem there

The procedure works OK with:
SELECT QuestionDescription FROM Questions WHERE QuestionCode = @WizardGroup1Question

However I need the SQL in an EXEC as the sp will eventually be dynamic so that i can pass in the name of the table to select from.

Thanks

//
When I execute the @query, I get an error message like "Invalid Column Name Male".
I think I need to put a single quotation around the dynamic variable, so that I have

Invalid Column Name But Right

===========================

My work environment is all in SQL SERVER 2005.

I have a problem with above T-SQL. There is an error while I run above code in Develoment Server.The error disappears when I put 'ci.Link' as 'Link' in OrderBy clause. My work environment has TEST, PRE-PRODUCTION and PRODUCTION. In all other environments the code runs fine with ci.Link but only in DEVELOPMENT the error persists. It has an error as 'Link is invalid column name'.

Nov 7, 2007

I need to identify where this column could be, I have checked in the syscolumns but did not find it as a result I am now having to manually check each view and sp that could use the column so I can transfer the database to my new SQL 2005 machine.

Is there an easier way to identify this coloumn by some sort of search??

Hello,

Finally
myConnection.Close()

End Try

' Resort the grid for new records
If AddingNew = True Then
MasterGrid.CurrentPageIndex = 0
AddingNew = false
End If

' rebind the grid
MasterGrid.EditItemIndex = -1
BindMasterGrid()
End Sub
I have send a response.write instruction : the values are all good.
In the sql server database, the syntax of this 2 fields CMD_DATE_ORDER and CMD_REF_CLIENT are good.

Can you help me for this problem ?
Thanks.

Invalid Column Exception

Aug 18, 2004

Hi,
I have the following query

"SELECT Test_Question.Question_ID, Test_Question.Grade_Number as GNum, Test_Question.Question_Number as QNum, Question.Question_Text as QText , Answer.Answer_Number as AnsNum, Answer.Answer_Text as AnsTxt, Answer.ID AS Ans_ID FROM Test_Question, Question, Answer WHERE Test_Question.Active=1 AND Test_Question.Question_ID = Question.ID AND Test_Question.Deleted=0 and Test_Question.Test_Detail_ID ="+ currPTestId +" AND Question.ID = Answer.Question_ID GROUP BY Test_Question.Question_ID ORDER BY Test_Question.Question_Number, Test_Question.Question_ID, Answer.Answer_Number";

But I get an exception column Test_Question.Grade_Number is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the group by clause.

Could some one point out what is the problem in the above query.

thanks in advance
