'Object Was Open' In SQL 2005

Jun 6, 2008

I am getting an error 'Object was open' when executing a stored procedure with larger am amounts of data. This procedure runs from a VB 6.00 application on SQL 2005. When running the script in SQL there is no problem

rs.Open cmd, Options:=adCmdStoredProc

IMPORTANT: This error ONLY happens with large amount of data. The threshold level is about 250000 rows of data. If more than that amount of data is retreived the error occurs. If less then there is no problem.

Any suggestion would be greatfull

Thanks

What Does Object Was Open Error Mean?

Feb 14, 2005

Hi, I am accessing an MSDE Database from within a C# program. When calling the OleDbConnection.Open() method, I get the following error:

Exception: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException
Message: Object was open.
at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.ProcessResults(Int32 hr)
at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.InitializeProvider()
at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.Open()

Now I do not know what this means, since the Connection isn't open. And I do not know why this occurs. I am accessing the same database (but other tables) in the same program several times in the same way and do not get this error.

Any ideas?

ADO Recordset's Object Method Open

Hello group!I use MS Visual C++ 6.0, ADO, MS SQL Server 2000.When I attempt to open my database I meet with a following problem:when I try to get a bookmark of the current record in a Recordsetobject a following run-time error occurs: Unhandled exception intestdb.exe(KERNEL32.DLL):0xE06D7363: Microsoft C++ Exception.I created my database by 3 SQL commands:create database testdbcreate table testtable(i int)insert into testtable values(0)The error occurs in the following code snippet:#import "D:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemADOmsado15.dll" no_namespace rename("EOF", "EndOfFile")int main(){CoInitialize(NULL);bstr_t strCnn("Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=;""Initial Catalog=testdb;Trusted_Connection=YES;");const char* tablename = "testtable";_RecordsetPtr recs;recs.CreateInstance(__uuidof(Recordset) );recs -> Open(tablename, strCnn, adOpenStatic,adLockOptimistic,adCmdTable);_variant_t bm = recs -> Bookmark; // the error occurs hererecs -> Close();CoUninitialize();}During the debugging this code I met that the error depended on a typeof locking. When I set adLockBatchOptimistic or adLockOptimisticor adLockPessimistic the error occurs but when I set adLockReadOnly oradLockUnspecified it doesn't occur. By the way this error doesn'toccur whenI open Pubs database with any type of locking. What is a cause of thiserror?Thank you.

' The Definition Of Object [object Name] Has Changed Since It Was Compiled' Error When Altering A Trigger In 2005

Aug 17, 2007

Hello All

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this question to, so if it's not, please accept my apologies.

I'm working in SQL Server 2005 with a database that was migrated to 2005 from SQL Server 2000. I have to alter a trigger on a table for some functionality changes, and when I modify the trigger and then access it through the application the database is working with, I receive this error:

There was a error in the [stored procedure name] procedure. Error Number: -2147217900 Error Description: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The definition of object '[trigger name]' has changed since it was compiled.

[stored procedure name] and [trigger name] are where the actual names appear in the message.

I've tried running sp_recompile on the trigger, stored procedure, and table that are associated with this, and nothing works. I have dropped the trigger, which allows the save process to complete (but doesn't perform the required functionality, of course), and then re-created the trigger, but the error message still comes up. The compatibility level for the database is SQL Server 2000 (80) (as it was migrated from SQL Server 2000 as I mentioned above).

Has anyone seen this, and if so, how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Help! I have posted this before and I had hoped that the VS2005 SP1 would help my problem. It didn't. My code is shown below. I have dropped a sqlconnection, sqldataadapter and a strongly-typed dataset from the toolbox onto the component designer for my page and written my code. It compiles without any errors but at runtine I receive the system error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The error occurs at the first line where the sqldataadapter is mentioned. I have shufflled the code and the error still occurs at first mention of the dataadapter. VS 2005 Error 'Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object' With Integration Services Project Create Failure

May 22, 2008

Just installed VS 2005 & SQLServer 2005 clients on my workstation. When trying to create a new Integration Services Project and start work in the designer receive the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' dialog box with message "Creating project 'Integration Services project1'...project creation failed."

Previously I had SQLServer 2000 client with the little VS tool that came with it installed. Uninstalled these prior to installing the 2005 tools (VS and SQLServer).

I'm not finding any information on corrective action for this error.

Any one have this problem and found the solution?

Thanks,

How Many Open Connections Does SQL Server 2005 Express Allow To .mdf File

May 17, 2007

Hi Guys, how many connections does sql 2005 express allow to .mdf file. I stumpled on info on a microsoft site (actually a forum post on msdn) that sql server express allows only a single connection to an .mdf file.
Iam intrested in this because i developed reporting services reports in BIS and iam having problems. If i run a report from report manager, i have to wait for close to 20 minutes before i can be able to run my asp.net application agian. Else if i insert data or retrieve data from my asp.net application, then i have to wait again for 20 minutes or more before i can be able to run my reports else i will get an error that a connection can not be made to the database or that the database is being used by another process.
So in all cases, i have to wait for 20--30 minutes before a connection can be made to the .mdf file. i.e after running a report or after inserting or retrieving data from the database through my asp.net application.
Iam using sql sever 2005 express with advanced services and visual web developer on windows server 2003.
Any ideas or help.

SSRS 2005 Not Closing Open Cusors In Oracle 9i

Aug 16, 2006

The shared data sources in our reports are calling stored procedures in Oracle 9i that return data in out ref cursors. We are creating a bunch of snapshots (about 1400 of them) programatically using the Reporting Services Web Service method CreateReportHistorySnapshot. This works greate but we quickly got the Oracle error "ORA-01000 Maximum open cursors exceeded". The maximum number of cursors is currently set to 1500.

Increasing the number of cursors is not a good idea because we have a subreport that executes an Oracle stored proc for each row in the main report and that would be a cursor for each row which would be about 5500 cursors in additon to the cursors we need for all the other snapshots being produced.

We need to find a way inside of Reporting Services 2005 to explicitly close these open Oracle cursors.

Any ideas out there?

Problems Inserting Datetime Object Into Sql Server 2005

Nov 22, 2007

hey everyone,

Im trying run a stored procedure, but I am getting the following message when trying to execute it.

Implicit conversion from data type datetime to int is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.

which seems strange, as there is no integer going to a datetime field. Also, it does not return the value that is incorrect, nor the parameter that is failing. If there is anyway to view this in VS 2005 Team suite, please let me know.

It should also be noted that when I execute this sproc from within sql management studio, it executes fine.

This is the stored procedure im trying to execute...

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_UpdateRequest]

@request_id INT,
@request_client_id INT,
@request_description VARCHAR(150), @request_date DATETIME,
@request_edit_date DATETIME, @request_status VARCHAR(25), @request_approve_date DATETIME,
@request_activity_code VARCHAR(7), @request_department_code VARCHAR(3), @request_participants INT,
@request_activity_date DATETIME, @request_activity_due_date DATETIME,
@request_company_id INT, @request_company_code INT,

request_company_code = @request_company_code, request_company_id = @request_company_id,
request_notes = @request_notes

WHERE request_id = @request_id

END
GO

in my .net app, all the datetime objects are valid dates, so I could not see why this would be generating the error that it is, so I ran the SQL Profiler, and this was the output. Again, i cannot see where im going wrong...

please note, I have seperated the output from the single slab of text, making sure I didnt remove anything...

Store C# Class Object In SQL Server 2005 Database

Nov 13, 2007

I have a C# application, and I need to store instances of various class objects in a database. For Example:

myClass oMyClass = new myClass(args);

oMyClass.Property1 = something;
oMyClass.Property2 = something;

Now I need to store the oMyClass object in the database for later use, at which point I would get it out of the database, cast it back to myClass, and be able to acess its properties, etc. My problem is that the classes that I am working with are not serializable, so I cannot store the objects as XML. Does anyone have an example of doing this programmatically with C# and ADO.NET. I am assuming that I would have to store it in a vabinary column, but how do I get it in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Leave The Connection Open Or Always Open And Close Immediately?

Jun 7, 2006

Hi there,

I got an approach like that:
1) Read something from DB - check the value, if true stop if false go on2) Read the second Value (another SQL Statement) - check the value etc.
Now I could open the connection at 1) and if I have to go to 2) I leave the connection open and use the same connection at 2). Is it ok to do that?
The other scenario would be opening a connection at 1), immediately close it after I read the value and open a new connection at 2).
Thanks for the input!

Product Key For SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 Via Open License Agreement

Hi,

I have a customer, Customer who has purchased SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 via Open License Agreement. The product key is not available with the media.

I checked with eOpen team and confirmed that SQL 2005 does not require product key or Volume License Key for installation.

however, according to the VKB article 331355 titled "eOpen License Web Site" under "Exceptions" it is mentioned as:

SQL Server: The product key is distributed with the media. If the customer did not get a product key with the media, refer them to their reseller. The product key is hidden between two shrink-wrapped CDs.

Need your clarification on this,

How should we provide the key to the customer.

Is There A Way To Open SSRS 2005 Tree View In A Table In A Details Row Upward?

Apr 4, 2008

Hi.

I building some reports with SSRS, and showing data in a table. The table has one Details row that forms at the end multiple rows with the tree view (+ and -).

Is there a way to open the tree view upwards and not downwards so that the children of level 2, 3 etc come over the parent row?

I've goggled it everywhere, but I don't seem to find the answer. If anyone could help me out, I would appreciated.

Thanks
Novi
