'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' Is Not Registered On Local Machine

Jun 7, 2007

Hi all of you,

Primary platform is Framework 2.0 running over XP.

I've got an issue with a SSIS package which uses Oracle Provider for OleDB:

Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider 'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' is not registered on local machine

Nevertheless, MS Ole DB Provider for Oracle works fine. Let me know where am I failing.

Thanks in advance,

Oracle Oledb Provider Not Registered In Local Machine

Jan 5, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to establish a connection to an Oracle database using the following code in a script task:

Dim oOleDbConnection As OleDbConnection
Dim sConnString As String = _
"Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;" & _
"Data Source=DBxxx;" & _
"User ID=Userxxx;" & _
"Password=Passxxx"
oOleDbConnection = New OleDb.OleDbConnection(sConnString)
oOleDbConnection.Open()
When I execute the script task, I receive the following error:
The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle' provider is not registered on the local machine.
Am using the correct provider?
I do not know how to resolve the said error.
Here are some facts:
Oracle 8i is installed.
Tnsnames.ora is updated.
I have successfully connected to Oracle SQL *Plus to test the above credentials.
Please help.
Thanks.

The 'Ifxoledbc.2' Provider Is Not Registered On The Local Machine

May 6, 2008

I am trying to create CLR stored procedure in VS 2008. Within the procedure, I need to connect to an Informix database using the Ifxoledbc driver. We have other applications using this driver, so it wouldn't seem to be a probmlem with the driver itself. However, I get this error from SQL 2005 when I try to make a connection from my CLR code. It must have something to do w/ sql server, but not sure what. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help!

The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' Provider Is Not Registered On The Local Machine. (System.Data)

Oct 25, 2007

I am on an XP Pro 32-bit laptop, running SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. I want to import an Excel spreadsheet into one of my databases using (formerly known as) DTS. The Excel spreadsheet was created in 2003 (I have Office 2007 installed on this laptop). Whenever I try and do any OleDb import, I get the error:

TITLE: SQL Server Import and Export Wizard
------------------------------
The operation could not be completed.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. (System.Data)
------------------------------

------------------------------

I cannot install/reinstall MDAC because I have the latest version. What else can I try?

As additional information, I also get the error when trying to import anything into or export anything out of Access 2007. I'm pretty sure MDAC is awful, but I still need OleDb providers for much of the work I am doing.

Output Column Has A Precision That Is Not Valid (loading From Oracle Using OraOLEDB.Oracle.1)

Apr 2, 2007

Hi!

I'm loading from Oracle using the OraOLEDB.Oracle.1 provider since I need unicode support and I get the following error:

TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
------------------------------

Error at myTask [DTS.Pipeline]: The "output column "myColumn" (9134)" has a precision that is not valid. The precision must be between 1 and 38.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0204018 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------
For most of my queries to Oracle I can cast the columns to get rid of the error (CAST x AS DECIMAL(10) etc), but this does not work for:

1) Union

I have a select like "SELECT NVL(myColumn, 0) .... FROM myTable UNION SELECT 0 AS myColumn, .... FROM DUAL"

Even if I cast the columns in both selects (SELECT CAST(NVL(myColumn, 0) AS DECIMAL(10, 0) .... UNION SELECT CAST(0 AS DECIMAL(10, 0)) AS myColumn, .... FROM DUAL) I still get the error above.

2) SQL command from variable

The select basically looks like this:

"SELECT Column1, Column2, ... FROM myTable WHERE Updated BETWEEN User::LastLoad AND User::CurrentLoad"

Again, even if I cast all columns (like in the union), I still get the same error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Trouble With: Linked Server To Oracle Using OraOLEDB.ORacle Provider

Jan 11, 2007

Hi--

I am running SQL Server 2005 on Win2k3:

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio      9.00.2047.00
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools      2005.090.2047.00
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)      2000.086.1830.00 (srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447)
Microsoft MSXML      2.6 3.0 4.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer      6.0.3790.1830
Microsoft .NET Framework      2.0.50727.42
Operating System      5.2.3790

I have the OraOLEDB.Oracle provider installed to the (C:oraclexe) directory.

I am having problems querying from linked oracle server.  When i setup oracle as a linked server and purposely enter an incorrect password the query i run tells me i have an incorrect password.   So it at least knows that.  when i set the correct password and run a query I get this error:

(i replaced the real server name with "someServer".)

Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer".

This is how I set up my Linked server:

Provider: "Oracle Provider for OLE DB"

Product Name: SomeServer

Data Source: SomeServer

Provider String:  "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=SomeServer;User Id=MyLogin;Password=MyPassword"

The query I run is:

Select * from [Someserver].[schema or database]..[tbl_name]

Any help???  What am i missing?

Problems With OraOLEDB.Oracle

Jun 7, 2006

Good day everyone....

I have installed the OraOLEDB.Oracle Provider on 3 different servers, and have made a link server on all three.

On two of the machines, I am successful in retrieving data from the Oracle database. But, on the third machine, I receive this error:

Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "employee_prod" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Server: Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "tims2_prod".

On the machine which is generating the error, I can use SQL*Plus to connect to the remote database. I can also connect to the database using the "ODBC Data Source Administrator" when I create a system DSN. It would appear that the driver is installed and working correctly, but SQL Server can not access it.

I have also uninstalled/installed serveral times.

All of our servers are running W2003 Standard X64 with SQL Server 2005 Standard 64-bit Edition.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

SQL Server Agent And X64 Using OraOLEDB.Oracle.1: Dtexec From Cmd Works, But Job Fails

Aug 16, 2007

I am extracting data from an Oracle database and have installed the latest x64 ODAC. When I run the 64 bit dtexec in cmd the package runs fine with no errors, but when creating and executing a SSIS job in the agent it fails. I've tried creating the job using CmdExec as well and I get the same errors:

The CmdExec job step uses the _exact_ same command as the one I execute successfully in cmd:
"c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTExec.exe" /FILE "C:PackagesLoad Dimension Data.dtsx" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW

I have managed to find two work arounds, but they are quite ugly:

1) Schedule the package execution using Windows Task Scheduler, basically create a bat file which runs the package.
2) Schedule the package in SQL Server agent, but as T-SQL script and use xp_cmdshell, i.e. EXEC xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /FILE "C:PackagesLoad Dimension Data.dtsx" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW'

Both work and use the 64 bit dtexec. Not that elegant though..

CmdExec and the 32 bit version of dtexec works, but is not good enough for me since we bought new hardware and 64 bit software just to be able to address more memory. Has anyone managed to execute a SSIS package successfully using the agent and the 64 bit OraOLEDB.Oracle.1?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Btw, I am using Windows Server 2003 x64 and SQL Server with SP2.

An Attempt Has Been Made To Use A Data Extension 'ORACLE' That Is Not Registered For This Report Server.

Oct 29, 2007

I am attempting to deploy a sample report (SQL 2005 Workgroup w/SP2) and I am receiving the subject error message when I attempt to view the report on the web server. We are using SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition connecting to an Oracle database.

Is this a limitiation of this version? In report designer, I am able to select Oracle as a connection type. If I try to create a data source at the server, "Microsoft SQL Server" is the only option available. If I look at the ReportServer config file, I see many other data connection types available. Did I miss a step, or is this a Workgroup Edition limitation (it's not documented as a limitation that I am able to find)?

Thanks in advance...

Cannot Find DB On Local Machine In VB.Net

May 13, 2007

I have SQL Server Express 2005. I have it configured for remote connections, but I cannot even see my local dbase. I have the server setup for windows authentication. In VB 2005 database connection wizard I see the db server but on the database itself.

When I click test connection....without a dbase choosen it says ( i don't have any to choose from).

"An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connection to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server"

This doesn't make sense because i have changed the the surface area configuration to allow remote connections on both TCP/IP and Named pipes. It shouldn't matter though because this is a local database.

Thanks

Error 26 On A Local Machine

Aug 13, 2007

I am getting the "Error Locating Server/Instance Specified" message. The part I find most confusing is that I am connecting to my database locally. I have read the recommendations on the blog posted here:

http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2007/05/13/sql-network-interfaces-error-26-error-locating-server-instance-specified.aspx

and implemented them to no avail. The confusing part is that I only have this problem on one particular application, which I am not the original author of. When I build my connection to the very same server (different database) using the Data Source configuration wizard, it works just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've googled for this the whole yesterday and I couldn't find a complete solution.
I'm having a sql2005 database in my development machine and I need to copy all the content "Tables, Diagrams, PK columns and other data" to the remote production machine.
Using the Import/Export method didn't copied the relationships between tables, also it turned the PKs into just a standard columns
Can anyone help?

SQL Output A XML File To My Local Machine

Hi, i wondered if anyone could help me with my stored procedure.
It updates a table with users messageboard and saves the Title, Line 1, Line 2 and so on into a XML thats stored in the column named XML_Data.

How can i then output this xml to a file on my local machine?

T-SQL :-

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[prUpdateMessageBoardVetted]

(PARAMS GO HERE)

UPDATE CustomerData
SET Title = @Title,

Line1 = @Line1,
Line2 = @Line2,

Line3 = @Line3,
Line4 = @Line4,

Line5 = @Line5,
Line6 = @Line6,

XmlFileName = @XmlFileName,
FlashFileName = @FlashFileName,

HtmlFileName = @HtmlFileName,
Vetted = @Vetted,

ClientName = @ClientName
WHERE

(UserRef = @original_UserRef)

END

BEGIN

IF @Vetted = 1

DECLARE @xmlData AS XML

SET @xmlData = (SELECT
UserRef,

Title,

Line1,

Line2,

Line3,

Line4,

Line5,

Line6

FROM dbo.CustomerData
WHERE (UserRef = @original_UserRef) FOR XML RAW('Message'), ELEMENTS)

SELECT @xmlData

UPDATE [dbo].[CustomerData]
SET

XML_Data = @xmlData
WHERE

(UserRef = @original_UserRef)

(THEN HERE DO SOME SORT PROCEDURE TO OUTPUT @xmlData to a XML FILE ON MY LOCAL MACHINE,

BUT ALSO NAME THE XML FILE VIA @XmlFileName BY DOING SOME SORT OF CONCANTENATION)

any ideas?

Thanks in advance !

Connecting To SQL Server (Local Machine)

Feb 7, 2007

Hi all,

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I'm tearing my hair out over the basics when I should be spending time learning ASP.NET 2.0 and C#. I've searched the archives and a lot of people seem to be getting the same error as me, but when trying to connect from remote machines.

I'm getting what seems to be a standard message ...

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

I'm not trying to connect remotely, I'm on my developer machine. The error comes up when trying to connect from within VS2005 (Tools, Connect to Database). It also comes up if I create a new web-site and go to the ASP.NET configuration tool (this is, I guess, trying to create the necessary database behind the scenes but is unable to connect to the database).

I suspect the error might be related to one or more of the following ...

September last year I installed VS2005 Express and SQL*SERVER Express. Both were fully un-installed when I bought VS2005 Professional before installing the new product.
When I set up SQL*SERVER 2005 Developer I remember choosing an option to have a separate user on my PC with administrative rights. Actually I don't recall much about what I chose but I can't find out where those permissions are managed from.
I've followed various instructions to check that remote access is enabled (despite the fact that I'm local, not remote). TCP and Named Pipes are both enabled (and I stopped then restarted SQL Server). I've checked that the service is started.
The odd thing is that I have had an application connect with the following string ...

SSLCon = new SqlConnection(@"Server=(local)SSLMJ;Integrated Security = True;" + "Database=SSLTESTRESULTS");

Though the application connection seems to work ok, I think I'm missing out lots of developer functionality because I can't get VS2005 to see the database or server.

Help ?

Copying Database From Server To My Local Machine.

Feb 27, 2006

First of all let me explain that I am a complete newbie to this SQL stuff. I am in the process of reading a book, and followed the books suggestions for what I want to do, but it doesn't work. I know this has been covered several times in this forum, but no one post in particular covered exactly what I want to do.

I want to copy the database from the server to my local machine.

First, do I need to have SQL running on my machine in order to copy the database? I do have Enterprise Manager running, does that mean SQL Server is running locally?

Secoond, I tried using the Copy Wizard, but when I get to the target list, my local machine is not listed. How do I get it listed so I can copy the database?

I hope my questions are not too stupid... but then I'd be stupid if I didn't ask questions.

Thanks in advance for your help...

Connection Problems SQL2000 On Local Machine

Jun 19, 2006

This may be a stupid newbie question, but being that I'm not a DBA I'm going to ask it anyway.

We discovered a problem with a clients server (Windows 2003 SBS) when we tried to install Veritas Backup Exec. Backup Exec requires an instance of either SQLMSDE or full SQL. This server has full SQL 2000 sp3a installed on it with a working account application. When backup exec trys to create it's instance it fails.

Investigating further...when I go into Enterprise Manager (logged in as Domain Admin) I get an error when I select the local server.

I.E.
"A connection could not be established to (LOCAL).
Reason: Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server registration properties. blah blah blah.

Okay the server is running. The accounting application (client/server) is still working. I right click on the server and select "New Server Registration" for the field "server" I click the browse button and the "Active Servers" box is empty..:shocked:

I went to check the "Data Sources" under drivers, that field is blank. (no drivers installed). I downloaded MS's component checker and it says "MDAC 2.8 on Windows server 2003 sp1" is installed.

At this point I have exhausted my knowledge of MS-SQL server. My goal is to get BackupExec installed and NOT break the existing accounting application.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Why can't I backup the file to the server like:

BACKUP DATABASE [mydatabase] to DISK=x:datamydatabase.bak WITH FORMAT

It looks I can only backup to the localmachine.

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

This instance is protected by a vpn and is running on a clustered environment. I can connect to other SQL2000 servers that are running on a clustered environment and SQL2005 that is not clustered.

After adding a host file entry, I was able to connect to the server using OSQL. I was able to telnet into the port the server is listening on.

Others in my group can connect to the server using SQL Server Management Studio with no problems. They are running Win2003 Server. I originally could connect to this server, but I needed to change my password. After that I lost my remote connectivity. I can RDP into the server and map drives to the server. I map to a local administrator of this machine.

I am not sure what else to try?

Help.

Sep 14, 2007

Hi and thanks in advance for your help.
 I have a dilemma and I need some expert help with this. I am trying to make a copy of a remote Database and then replicated the DB and it's contents on my local machine so I can build a test site to run data with. I tried to remot into the server machine but I guess that feature is not allowed by the honest of the remote machine. Since I build on my local machine and would like to be able to test data on my local machine.... I would like to copy the remote DB to my local computer and then I can run my test app on my local server. The version of SQL on the remote machine is SQL Express 2005 and I have SQL 2005 on my machine. Please give me how to accomplish this please.
