I'm curious of what happens to the SQL Server Stored Procedure after timing out from the ASP.NET application. Does it timeout at the same time or do you have to set up a value in SQL Server?

Jan 22, 2008I am getting a timeout error when I try to delete a column from a table w/ about 3 mil records:

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
When I go to the server properties, "View connection properties", the "Connection Timeout" propery is set to 15 and "Execution Timeout" is set to 0. However, I cannot change any of the Connections properties; the font is colored gray. I am running SQL Server 2005 on the local computer. Any idea how to change the Timeout property?

May 23, 2007My web site times out when I run a SQL Stored procedure that takes 47 seconds.
I thought that I had prevented this by setting time limits to 600 seconds for both the SQL connection and httpRuntime My web.config contains: -<add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=xxxx;Initial Catalog=gdb;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxxxx;Password=xxxxx;connection timeout=600" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>and
<httpRuntime maxRequestLength="8192" executionTimeout="600"/>
Is there anywhere else that I should specify this larger timeout limit?

Oct 20, 2011I have setup database mirroring with witness server. To prevent unnecessary failover because of network slow or other issue, I changed the timeout setting as
ALTER DATABASE <Database Name>
SET PARTNER TIMEOUT 120
Which I understand if connection is broken between principal and mirror, principal database will wait for 120 second and after that only automatic failover will happen.
If this is true, it does not happen in my case. Failover happens before120 second.

Jul 30, 1999I want to set up two servers so that users on Server_1 can run stored procedures on Server_2.
Server_1 is SQL Server 7.0 using NT and standard security, while Server_2 is 6.5 using standard security.
I want all users on Server1 mapped onto one login ('RemoteLogin') on Server2, with no password checking. And I'm only setting up the servers as Remote Servers rather than Linked.
I though something along the lines of:
EXEC sp_addremotelogin 'Server1', 'RemoteUser', null
EXEC sp_remoteoption 'Server1', 'RemoteUser', null, 'trusted', 'TRUE'
would achieve this. Unfortunately it only works for the users who connect under standard security. Those who gain access via NT logins, get an error message:
Server: Msg 4002, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Login failed
How can I get round this?
Help Setting Up Replication On Remote IIS

I am trying to setup merge replication for a sqlmobile database. I was able to set it up on a test environment which the sql instance and the iis were on the same box. I am trying now to go live. Our sql instance is on another box than the iis. I am now getting a 404 error when trying to test in the url https://www.domain.com/sqlmobile/sqlcesa30.dll?diag Is there a walk through for iis running on a different box, or does someone know of a solution?

I have written a VB program using an SQLExpress database on my machine, and I want other users to remotely access it. From what I have read, all I have to do for the Client machines is load on SQL Native Client and install the EXE. I have also enabled TCI/IP etc and setup the exceptions on my firewall. My connectionstring is
"Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Database=<mydata>;Data Source=<machinename>sqlexpress"
When I run the EXE on the client machine, I get the following error...
Cannot open database <mydata> requested by the login. The login failed.
I am totally new to SQL and would appreciate any help in getting this setup. Do I need to put my login details into the connection string so other PCs can log into my database..?
ACCESS was never this hard to deploy, but I really want to learn SQL.

Jul 20, 2005Hi,I am having a hard time setting up an SQL Server 2000 DeveloperEdition instance for remote clients. The instance is running well andI can connect to it on the local computer. When I try connecting fromanother computer using Enterprise Manager with the server's IP as theinstance name, I always get the usual "Specified SQL Server not found"error. I have used Enterprise Manager many times to connect to localand remote servers (which were set up by someone else obviously).I used the client network utility on the client to make an alias forthis server and have it use the TCP/IP library for port 1433.I understand that SQL Server listens on port 1433 for connections. Ihave a firewall on the server and setup 1433 forwarding. But when Iuse Enterprise Manager to try to register the server, the firewalldoesn't even show a connection attempt on port 1433 (it logs allconnection attempts).When I use telnet to port 1433, the firewall logs the attempt butthere is still no connection, as if the server isn't actuallylistening on 1433 at all. I can't seem to find any help on getting theserver listening, as if it supposed to be easy to set up so I don'tknow what I'm missing. I guess I have the following questions:1) Does anything have to be done on the server side to set it up tolisten for remote client connections?2) How do I set the port on which the server listens in case I want tochange from 1433?3) Does anything have to be set up on the client side other than usingthe client network utility?4) Why does Enterprise Manager not seem to even attempt a connectionon port 1433 when I try to register this server?Any help is appreciated.

I've been programming a C# client app that helps netadmins at my school file and solve tickets. I use an SQL 2005 backend; it works just fine on my dev computer (with C# express installed) which doubles as the SQL server. Now, when I move to a different computer, w/o Visual C# or SQL installed, I get.

I am a VB6 programmer and I'm really new to SQL Express, I have always used ACCESS because it was so easy to deploy. I've now written a VB6 program which uses SQL Express and I want to know how to deploy it. Basically my PC will host the SQL database as it has SQL Express loaded onto it. I now want to install my EXE onto other Client's PC and have them read/write to the database on my machine.
Besides the EXE program, what software do I need to load onto the Client's PC so they can access my SQLExpress database...? (eg: Net Framework, SQLExpress, etc).
Also, if my machine is called ABC123, in my connectionstring do I just put in
ABC123sqlexpress as the datasource..?. Will this be enough for the other PCs to connect to mine ?

(1) I have set up a user on CHRIS-PCCHRISSQL called sqladminuser at server level with the Server Roles of 'Public' and 'SysAdmin'
(2) The computers are both on the same homegroup.
(3) On Chris-PC , I have opened up the firewall port 1433 as Inbound Rule
(4) On Chris-PC, Within SQL Server Configuration Manager,the 'SQL Server Network Configuration for Protocols for CHRISSQL' have been set up as follows:
- The TCP protocol is enabled
- I have set up IP2
as follows:
Active: Yes
Enabled: No
IP Addres: 192.168.0.3
However when I try to connect from SQL Server Management Studio 2014 on my local machine Pootle to Chris-PCCHRISSQL using SQL Server Authentication with the user sqladminuser

Feb 5, 2004Ok bear with me here :). I have a server that is getting about 1000000 hits per day with about 10,000 unique vistors. For the past 2 months I have been revamping my code trying to deal with the increase in traffic. I have 2 boxes, one for the website, and one for the SQL. They are connected through a secure backlink so that I dont have to worry about encrypting the data. So the problem started when I updated the MDAC components a few weeks ago. I started getting these freaking timeout errors, they are up to about 1000 errors per hour. I have been monitoring the connection pooling using the system monitor for about a week and have noticed that I am not maxing out the pooling but I am still dropping connections. I went into the web.config and turned my max connections to 1000. Unfortunately this didn't even put a dent in the problem. It doesn't matter if I have 12 or 212 open connections it still drops them. I am at my wits end with trying to debug this problem. I am wondering if anyone else has had similiar problems recently. Also on a side note I have checked all my connections to make sure that I am closing them. Not only do I close my datareaders but I also set them to nothing. In addition to closing and reseting my datareaders I am also disposing and reseting my connection objects as well as closing them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From time to time i get this error "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." so I tried to change the connection string by adding thie following "Connect Timeout=200; pooling='true'; Max Pool Size=200" but still it is giving the same error! so why is this happening ? and what can I do!
btw the timeout expired happens when a stored procedure is executed at the Fill method !

I am facing a problem in SQL Server 2005 and the .NET Environment. I have an SP, which will return me the result within fraction of second when i execute it in SQL Server Management studio. But randomly (Frequently), its giving timeout when i execute it from .NET Envirnment.
If i execute it at that same time in Management studio, i am not getting the error. But getting the Timeout when i execute it in the Server Explorere of VS 2005 or in the Application which uses it.
Can any one figure out the solution.

I am having a problem with my windows app in VB.net. I am just trying to do a very simple select command to retrieve some data. I am using a hosting server with a VPN.
When i click on the button it keeps giving me the error above. When I use server management express to do the same query it works fine and relatively fast.
So I have tried setting the CommandTimeout to 120 but when it stops, the debugger shows that the value of the COmmandTimeout is 30, although it stops after about 15 secs.
I am really lost and would need some help please! Find my code underneath.

I am getting this error on web server. My Appication is working fine on my Local Network where DB server and web server are on different machine. But getting TimeOut on web server. I tested the query on Query Analyzer it takes hardly 3 sec (Max) to execute. There is only Select query and total number of records are around 2100 which is not a big data.
I have used Connect Timeout = 180 in connection string which is also not effective.
please tell me how can I handle this exception.

In our development environment we have IIS and SQL Server 2005 both running on the same box. We use VWD or our dev server's IIS to run the apps.
What happens is the database stops responding to our web applications and we continue to get the timeout error. I can still execute queries from Management Studio but all of the web apps all timeout.
Then, the only was we can get the database to start responding again is if we restart the SQL Server service.
Any ideas as to why the database would stop responding to all of the web apps but not Management Studio? It tends to happen a couple times a day when we are developing. Only the other developer and myself use the DEV environment.
