'socket' Visual Program Using Ms Sql Through Port 80

Aug 29, 2007

hi,

im an honours student from australia who is investigating the susceptability of medical application suites that use ms sql to sql injection.

this software is written in c/java (i think).

my supervisor advised me i could experiment socketing/porting the software through port 80 somehow so that i may communicate with the database.

can any one give me any info on software/techniques if there are any out there?

thanks in advance.

Stored Procedure Not Returning OUTPUT Parameters To Visual Basic Program

Mar 24, 2008

I have coded a stored procedure to return nearly all of the columns of a single record selected by using a unique key value. The record is in an SQL database, not within an in-memory DataSet. All of the parameters that I wish to have returned to my program are defined as OUTPUT; the two key values are defaulted to INPUT, as there is no need to return them to the calling program. I also have defined the direction of these parameters in the calling SQLDataAdapter function. However, when I run this, the values returned are either the current date for my DateTime parameters, Nothing for my Char parameters or 0's for my integer parameters.

When I try testing the sproc alone, by using the "Step Into Stored Procedure" action in Visual Studio, I get a message in the Debug Output window indicating that parameter @TktClassID was expected and not supplied. This is an OUTPUT parameter, which makes me question why I should be providing any sort of value for it within my VB code. Following are the function definition from my SQLDataAdapter class that calls my sproc, and the sproc itself. I appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

**FUNCTION DEFINITION FROM SQLDataAdapter Class

CLR Stored Procedure Calling MS CRM Webservice Failing With Socket Error

Jun 18, 2007

Hi!

I am developing an integration solution for MS CRM.

The basic idea is to have a CLR stored procedure that draws data from a SQL database, transforms the data, and then adds it to MS CRM via the webservice.

When executing the stored proc, it randomly fails (although at approximately the same time, everytime).

This is the error message:

Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure add_CCU_information, Line 0
A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user defined routine or aggregate 'add_CCU_information':
System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted

If someone could please give some advice, I would really appreciate it.

SQL Server Error Message - Operating System Error 10038: An Operation Was Attempted On Something That Is Not A Socket...

Nov 20, 2006

My apologies...I wasn't for sure where to post an error like this...

Over the last 2 months I have gotten this SQL Server error (twice). All existing processes will continue to work, however no new processes can be created and users cannot connect to the server. This is the exact text of the message in the SQL Server error log.

Operating system error 10038: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket...

Error: 17059, Severity: 18, State: 0

Error accepting connection request via Net-Library 'SSNETLIB'. Execution continuing.

Error: 17882, Severity: 18, State:

While we can typically just stop SQL Server Service and restart the services...I have found it is best to restart the machine during non-production times to take care of any 'residual' effects of this error.

The SQL Server 2000 SP4 box with Windows 2003 Standard SP1 is well maintained by our I.T. team and it typically will run 4 or 5 months without a reboot.

Thank you...

An Attempt Was Made To Access A Socket In A Way Forbidden By Its Access Permissions.

Jan 6, 2008

Re: Possible Vista-only security issue opening a TCP connection to SQL2005

Please help. I have a problem that appears to be rare. I'm testing the culmination of a year's work and the error I'm getting is at the most basic level (the SQL connection) while everything else so far is working as coded.

My client is Windows Vista, apparently no firewall (I say apparently as in recent years MS have put more and more facades over the actuality of the operating systems), my server is Windows 2003 Server b3790 SP2 with SQL 2005 Standard 1399.06, again no firewall.

PortQuery 2.0 reckons that the server is listening on port 1433, too, so it doesn't seem like a firewall issue.

Nothing reported in either Event Viewers.

Here's the stack dump:

Unhandled Exception: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to
SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider:

And here's the connection string, which is built using the SqlConnectionStringBuilder:

"Data Source=192.168.2.2;
Initial Catalog=Research;
Integrated Security=False;
Persist Security Info=False;
User ID=usr_research_dalc_www02;
Password=usr_research_dalc_www02;
Pooling=True;
MultipleActiveResultSets=True;
Network Library=dbmssocn;
Application Name="Analytics Data Access Layer""

I have tried an old project which used to connect to the same server using a more basic connection string (it was a project which populated my Research db with fake data) and it also fails. When I ran this project successfully I'm pretty sure it was on an XP client.

I have also ran my TestHarness .exe on another client (WinXP) and it appears to pass this point and raises an exception that I believe is caused at a later point - so it looks like a Vista client issue.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Luke

P.S. Some losely related thoughts; the MSDN forum system still logs me out on Vista when I try to submit a thread, please sort this out! You can't expect your customers to run around deleting cookies. Also, when will you finally deprecate the default Named Pipes!? And finally, having that "does not allow remote connections" error spewed out with all connection errors is a really bad design choice, in my opinion.

It is very interesting to me that most people in this group can't do simpleSQL. Are you viewing MySQL as a simple file system?As long as you do that,you willnot understand SQL in any dialect. So from now on:When you have a question about SQL. post the table structures. Uh, "WithCreate".Post some sample data in the form of INSERTS.Regards,Rich--The journey is the reward.

Hello,
I hope someone could help me out here.....

I have set up a new web server in my DMZ. This web server needs to "talk" to an application server located on my LAN. It communicates via a COM + Component.

I would like to keep the access that is open between the DMZ & LAN to minimal, obviously for security reasons. Does anyone know what port is used for COM + communication?

Thank you!

3. If it can't be done, what db program should I use?

Program Locking Up While Using Rda

Apr 15, 2008

On some occasions when trying to send data back to the server, the program will lock up for up to 30 minutes. The code below is the rda data transfer process and the function IsConnected() determines whether there is a connection.

If Not MainFrm.IsConnected Then
rda.ConnectionManager = True
End If
If MainFrm.IsConnected Then
Dim sCon As String = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=175.21.21.121;Initial
Catalog=OurDb;User ID=UserId;Password=pwd"
rda.InternetUrl = "http://Ourwebsite.co.uk/tfr/sqlcesa30.dll"
rda.LocalConnectionString = "Data Source=Program FilesSysdata.sdf"
For i As Integer = 0 To RecCount - 1
Try
rda.SubmitSql(UpdateRec(i, 0), sCon)
Catch Ex As SqlCeException
ErrTxt = Ex.ToString
End Try
Next

Public Shared Function IsConnected() As Boolean
Dim request As HttpWebRequest
Dim response As HttpWebResponse
Try
request = CType(WebRequest.Create("http://www.intel.com/"), HttpWebRequest)
response = CType(request.GetResponse(), HttpWebResponse)
If response.StatusCode = HttpStatusCode.OK Then
response.Close()
Return True
Else
response.Close()
Return False
End If
Catch Ex As WebException
Return False
End Try
End Function

There are rda properties which determine a timeout. How can I use these to stop my program from locking up if the signal is weak?

Port 1433 Is Already In Use...........

Jun 7, 2000

Ok,

The Scenario is as follows:

24/7 Production Call Centre server running NT4.0 and SQL 6.5 with all the latest service packs.

SQL mail fails(with dull regularity) and the SQL server services stop.

When the SQL server Services are restarted an error message appears stating that Port 1433 is in use after which nobody can connect via TCP/IP. Obviously the port believes the previous SQL session is still running, and won't release the port to the "New Application requesting it".

On a unix system you can force a port reset so you don't need to shutdown and restart the box. Can you do this from either SQL or NT?

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated the DBA's are 100 Miles from the Servers, so restarts are reliant on other people!

Does anyone have an idea on why when using IP with port 1433 that on the SQL 2000 Server a bind failure happens on port 1433 and are not able to get to the SQL using IP but you can use Named Pipes.

Would greatly appreciate any help.

Deadlock With Port: 0

Apr 13, 2006

I've been diagnosing deadlocks for a last couple weeks at a client site and I understand the KEY: and TAB: locks issues. However, the client recently experienced a series of multi-branch deadlocks for which I can find no information. Attached is the deadlock text from the ERRORLOG. Any help would be much appreciated.

Port 1433

Feb 2, 2004

Did a search on port 1433 but nothing came up in the search.
This question is more geared to DBAs more then SQL developers.

I have a SQL 2000 server on a win2k3 machine. For some reason it will not listen in on TCP port 1433.
Shared memory and Named Pipes do though.

I checked the Server Network Utility and I see TCP/IP listed right under Named Pipes and I see that the default port is 1433.

Any ideas how to get SQL to listen on that port?

SQL Port Number

Aug 23, 2007

1. Is there a quick way to find out what port number SQL is listening to? I have 10 instances running on one server and I could find out by going to SQL log but it's bit time consuming.

2. quick way to change the port number?

thanks
