?? Compact Client Agent Logging ??

Jan 25, 2008

Hi all,

We're using SQL Server Compact 3.5 with Merge Replication.

I realize it's possible to turn on SQL Server Compact *Server Agent* logging but I was hoping there was a way to turn on *Client Agent* logging as well.

In a Microsoft webcast it indicates Client Agent logging can be turned on by creating a text configuration file named, "Calog30.txt" with the proper entries. I have tried this but it doesn't work. I also named the file, "Calog35.txt", but that doesn't work either.

These are the entries that should be placed in the configuration file (according to the webcast):

LogLevel=5
LogFilePath=.log.txt
WininetLog=1

Has anyone gotten Client Agent logging to work?

Thanks

SQL Agent Job - Logging Results To A Table.

Oct 11, 2007

Is it possible to log the results of a SQL Agent job to a specific table?
I see there is a tick box for logging to a table for each step in the job but it does not allow me to tell it which table I want it to log to.

Can someone give instructions on how to log a SQL Agent job and/or steps within the job to a specific table?

Thanks

Logging Difference Between Designer And SQL Agent Package Executions

Dec 12, 2006

After fine-tuning my package logging, I built a query against SYSDTSLOG9 that uses the combination of the OnPreExecute events and any subsequent event for each task to build a nice view of a package in progress, including the duration of each event. (Running tasks would have a row with a NULL EndTime.)

When running the package within the Designer, everything works as expected. Events are logged at the task level and everything bubbles-up to the package level.

However, when I run the package from SQL Agent (using the SSIS job step), none of my OnPreExecute or sub-component events are written. That is, I only get package-level OnInformation, OnPostExecute and OnError events.

This means when the job/package is executing, I can't directly see which steps are currently in progress nor can I get a duration for each step once it's completed. This will be very disconcerting for my teammates who will have to help support this at some point.

Any idea how or why there would be a change in behavior between these two execution methods?

Thanks in advance for any help. Until then, banging my head against the wall...
Tim

Client Agent Error: Integrity Violation

Mar 16, 2006

Hello:

I tried to do the merge replication between SQL 2000 database and the SQL mobile server on PDA with SQL server management studio from SQL 2005 and I have already successfully synchronized my PDA with one small SQL server database file. However when I tried to synchronized my PDA with another larger SQL server database file, I got the error on PDA as following: €œThe row operation cannot be reapplied due to an integrity violation. Check the publication filter. [Table = AuditCriterion, operation = Insert, RowGuid = {1ee9321d-f00d-410c-8d5b-08d4220d2627}]€?. I have keep checking the size of sdf file during synchronization, I found after the size of the sdf file stop increasing for about 20 mintues, then I got the error above. Morever, AuditCriterion table have a foreign key with another table AuditElement and I have not used publication filter at this stage.

Please help thanks.

Logging To Event Viewer Fails But SQL Server Logging Works OK - Why?

Jun 18, 2007

Greetings,

I am developing a package on my local workstation. I have defined two logging service providers. One is for SQL Server and the other is for the Windows Event Log. I am using the Dts.Log method in a script task to write log entries.

Logging is working properly with the SQL Server provider and rows are being inserted into the sysdtslog90 table. However, the only events that are being logged in the Windows Event Log are the package start and end events which I believe SSIS is doing automatically anyway.

Is there something I need to do to enable WIndows Event Log logging other than defining a log provider and making sure it is checked active? Won't SSIS write to two different logs with one Dts.Log call? Any ideas on what might be going wrong with my approach?

Thanks,

BCB

Logging Package Name For Any Event In Sysdtslog90 Logging Table

Oct 17, 2007

Hi,
I decided to use the SQL Server log provider to store logging data of all my Integration Services packages. I also created some reports about this data for operating purposes.
I have a problem occurs the name of the executing package is not always written to the log,but the name of the single task which failed. But that is not very useful information for operating, because I do not see any chance to get the name of the package by the information which is logged in the sysdtslog90 table in the database which I defined for SSIS Logging.

How do I configure the package to always log the package information into the table, too?

Best regards,
Stefoon

Hello,

we've got a SQL Server 2005 which replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.5. Every 10 to 20 synchronisations we're getting the error mentioned above. A Soft reset of the device helps to make the synchronization working again.

Why is this error happening and how can we resolve this?

BTW, we've also running system that replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.0 without having this problems.

Execute Sql Server Agent Job Task - Job Immediately Returns Success... However Agent Job Is Still Running???

when I run a package from a command window using dtexec, the job immediately says success.
DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_SUCCESS (0).

However the Job is still in th agent and the status is executing. The implications of this are not good. Is this how the sql server agent job task is supposed to work by design.

Snapshot Agent && Log Reader Agent Will Not Start.

Nov 30, 2006

Hi All,

I would appreciate any help here at all. I am pulling my hair out!

I am unable to start the snapshot agent or log reader agent from within SQL management studio. it fails on executing step 2 with unknown username or bad password.

I have checked all account details and they are correctly using my domain admin account. I can connect to SQL using teh same account and it also has sysadmin permissions.

If i copy the step 2 paramters and start from the cmd prompt (again logged in using the same domain account) they both start fine.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Cannot Start Log Reader Agent And Snapshot Agent

For some wierd reason I cannot get the Log Reader Agent and snapshot agent to start. The domain account under which SQL Server Agent runs has administrator previlage on the box. I also use a domain account for SQL Server Service. (none of the passwords changed).

This is the error I am getting - "Executed as user: abc. A required privilege is not held by the client. The step failed"

Any ideas???

Also this domain account is a member of

SQL NATIVE CLIENT - OLE DB Connection On 64 Bit Client

Apr 23, 2008

I have tried this on several different operating systems (VISTA and XP ) and several versions of SQL NATIVE CLIENT including 2005.90.3042.0

I have a 64 bit "SQL NATIVE CLIENT" connection that fails. The exact same connection and code succeeds on 32 bit.
My customer and I prepend "oledb:" to the connection string and it starts working.

FAILS on 64 bit:
Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=Wrigley_Test;Data Source=MONGO;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=RIPTIDE;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False;MARS Connection=False;DataTypeCompatibility=0;Trust Server Certificate=False

WORKS
oledb:Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=Wrigley_Test;Data Source=MONGO;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=RIPTIDE;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False;MARS Connection=False;DataTypeCompatibility=0;Trust Server Certificate=False

I debugged my code to the point that I know it is happening when I call CreateAccessor for my SQL statement.

m_hr=m_pIAccessor->CreateAccessor(DBACCESSOR_ROWDATA, GetCols(), (m_pDBBinds+IsBookmarked()), 0, &m_hAccessor, NULL);

Error:

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Logging Who Did What

Oct 1, 2004

I have a web application accessing a SQL Server database (the ususal stuff).

I want to be able to log who did what on which table. I need to display this information on the web application. Is there an easy way of doing this, rather that making duplicates of a lot of data?

The best way I have thought of so far is making a new table with the following fields:
Table_Changed
Table_Primary_Key
Old_Field_Value
New_Field_Value
User
Date_Changed

Every time someone changes something, it is logged in this table, so that, at any time, I can display who changed what.
I have one more question. If I do do it this way, is there a way of getting the primary key value of any table? E.G. could I do something like this_table.primary_key.value ?

Logging

May 30, 2001

Is there a way to produce a log of all SQL statements hitting a database in a given range of time by a specific SPID? Obviously the SQL Server activity logs do not go into that much detail, except when errors are produced or a change is made to a system table. Is there a setting to add more detail, or to log a specific SPID's actions, or maybe a third party software that will give me what I am looking for?

Thanks. JT

Logging Changes

Mar 27, 2008

I've been asked to write a trigger that will basically log changes to certain fields in certain tables, then create a front-end application where the user will be able to review the info. The front-end app. is not a problem for me - the trigger is. I have found example of how to do this on Update when it's a complete row you want to log, but not a specific field. In addition, I also need to know if someone is attempting to read certain data and who that user is. If the user is not someone that is allowed to read the data, then I need to send an email alert.
I believe it's possible to do the above (despite my lack of knowledge :) -
Does anyone know where I can get more information on how to accomplish the above - or where to start looking?
Thanks to any who can guide me in the right direction.
