? Embed PDF Inside Of SQL Server Report Servics Report

Dec 21, 2006

Hi ...

I posted this same question on the ASP.NET forum and haven't received an answer, so I thought I'ld move the discussion over to this forum. My question has been read several times, so I know I'm not the only one facing this problem, but nobody seems to know how to make it happen.

Anyhow, I'm building a system where we collect a great deal of meta data inside of SQL Server. The meta data is associated wtih files that the users can attach - image files and PDFs. I can get the image files to display properly, however I can find no way to actually display the contents of the PDF file as part of the report.

We want to print out the meta data as a header to the PDF and then print the PDF in it's entirety. As an example, we would print out:

Emergency Plan Name: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Facility Name: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Last Review Date: 99/99/9999 Reviewed By: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

--- HERE IS WHERE I WOULD WANT TO PRINT OUT THE ASSOCIATED PDF's --

-- Emergency Plan --

-- Evacuation Plan 1 --

-- Evacuation Plan 2 --

I can print the file names - they are fields in the database, but how do I embed the actual PDF in to the report? They can print on different pages - I don't care about that, but I need to get them to be a part of the report.

Thanks ...

David

Any day above ground is a good day!

Embed Instead Of Attach Report

Nov 30, 2007

Is there anyway to embed a report in an email message instead of attaching it? I want to be able to send out nice looking order confirmations via email using Reporting Services. I would like the HTML to be embeded in the email so that the user does not have to open an attachment to see the report.

Can this be done?

Thanks,
Stuart Fox

How To Embed Word/pdf Object Into Report?

Oct 15, 2007

Hi, I have a report which includes all the customer data. each customer have a separate page based on their id.
For example, the report is 10 pages and each page is data for one customer.
Now we need to insert the instruction on the second page of each customer report. that means we need
to insert 10 instructions on the above report so each customer will get one page of data and one page of instruction.
this instruction is a pdf/word file, and
it is big so it is hard for us to redesign it in the report. We are thinking to embed the pdf/word file into the report, but
looks to me, the report only can embed the the image. If we make that pdf file as image, the report will be very
large and hard tto deploy. Can someone help me with this? thanks in advance.

Accessing Sub Reports In Asp.net. (Drilling Inside The Other Report)

Jan 31, 2008

Dear Technical Team,

I am facing an error while displaying a sql reporting service report on my asp.net page. The report it self is build using Report server project. It consists of a Main report which contains a bar graph. Upon clicking on the bar graph, it takes you to another report (i have given in the jump to report section), call it Report 2. Upon clicking on Report 2 it shows another report say Report 3. It is displayed properly as long as i run the preview of the report in my report project. When i deploy this report on the report server and trying it to access using my asp.net code behind. The main reports runs very fine. Upon clicking, it does not do anything and when i click again it display error, the report does not contain any thing. Sometime it does not show even the error. But just could not drill me in.

I presume on the click event of the report which is a char item, it calls the page load event, and it loses it parent report information or something like that. Please can any body guide me how to do this.

The following functionality i need to achieve with my web page.

My main report : Main report :upon click on any char item, it should take you to the second report.
My second report : and on clicking on charitem on the the second report, it should take me to the third report.

Please help

Nazim

Report Builder - Finding Specific Data Inside Of A LookupSet

Feb 28, 2014

Report Builder 3.0 . I have two datasets and I am using LookupSet to return data (a list of dates) but what I am after is the LAST date in the set. I have tried to use Last but I keep getting an error.

=Last(LookupSet(Fields!Model_Name.Value,Fields!Model_Name.Value,Fields!Read_Date.Value,"dsPageCount"))

I even tried doing a Last on the above statement with a Join thrown in, but that just gets me errors as well. I tried to Code in a function to go through the dataset and return the last piece of data, but again...error.

Function LastLookup(ByVal items As Object()) As Date
If items Is Nothing Then
Return Nothing
End If
Dim suma As Date = New Date()
For Each item As Object In items
suma = CDate(item)
Next

Hi -

I got through the installation hoops for SQLEXPRESS Reporting Services in Vista and set up the default configurations in Report Services Configuration. I can explore the default directory for "Reports" in IIS7, but I can't browse in IE. I get the "The report server is not responding. verify that the report server..." message in the browser. This is after I migrated the app per the initial http 500 error using the preferred method - %systemroot%system32inetservAPPCMD.exe migrate config "Default Web Site/Reports".

I'm running Vista Ultimate, VS2005, SQLEXPRESS SP2. I've tried running IE as admin and also I've disabled UAC from gpedit.msc - ...Windows SettingsSecurity SettingsLocal PolicySecurity Options and unchecking UAC.

Report Builder Using Report Model Based On Linked Server (Excel) - Primary Key?

Sep 6, 2007

I've created a linked server with a pretty basic Excel spreadsheet, and used this command to create a linked server to it:

sp_addlinkedserver ''XL_SPS_1', 'Excel', 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'c:MyExcel.xls', null, 'Excel 8.0'

I want to use this as the data from which to build a report model. As linked servers don't show up in the Data Source View wizard, I created a view in SQL Server:

create view MyExcel
as
select * from XL_SPS_1...Sheet1$

Okay, great, now the view shows up in the DSV wizard and I can create the data source view. However, when I create a new report model based on this data source view, the Report Model Wizard tells me at "Create entities for all tables" that I've got an error when it processes dbo_MyExcel that "Table does not have a primary key."

I assume this is where the identifying attributes for the entities in the report model are taken from, so I really can't go further. Does anyone have an idea as to how to add a primary key to a linked server (Excel) in SQL 2005? Can this be done? Other than importing spreadsheet data to a SQL table, how can I get around this?

Thanks,
--Stan

Possiblity / Instructions On How To Install Report Builder Locally Without Hitting Report Server

Feb 16, 2007

We have a remote business client who has a proxy server setup and this translates into receiving a 407 proxy authentication blocking error when attempting to download the report builder application for deployment off the report server which is housed locally with us. The proxy server does not allow them to download application type files off another site. At the moment, they would not like to disable the proxy for these users to allow them to deploy the application on their client or add the report server as a trusted site. Is there a method by which Report Builder can be locally installed on the client pc instead of online only with it knowing the correct report server to access and then still launch correctly when the report builder button is pressed through report manager?

I am not a web application guru by any means and we have tried to replicate the oneclick deployment and what occurs in the local settings/apps/2.0 subdirectories, but the application still attempts to download/install again. If we attempt to just launch the local executable on the client, report builder assumes the client pc (localhost) is the report server to access. Is there a method which will succeed?

Custom Security Extension - Report Manager And Report Server On Different Machines

Sep 19, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to deploy Reporting Services on an Internet-facing web server using a custom security extension (forms authentication). We will be putting Report Manager on the Web Server outside of the firewall, and Report Server on another machine inside the firewall. When testing the solution in a development environment with Report Manager and Report Server on the same box, the solution works fine.

When testing it using the Internet-facing environment described above, it almost works but there seems to be an issue with the authentication cookie that is generated. Here's what happens:

1. User enters credentials on UILogon.aspx and submits form.
2. In the code-behind, LogonUser() is called through a web service proxy and the authentication cookie is returned successfully. The code used here to set the cookie is the same code used in the Forms Authentication sample that ships with RS2005.
3. The user is redirected to Folder.aspx, and the request hangs for a while, and eventually kicks you back out to UILogon.aspx, as if it lost the authentication cookie. When doing a trace on the HTTP header, the cookie is still there.

Is there anything special I need to do to make the Report Server "see" the cookie when I have Report Manager and Report Server on different machines?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Table Columns Expand Horizontally When Viewing Report Through Report Server

Jan 10, 2008

I have an interesting problem to report that I'm hoping someone will be able to assist in solving.

I have a report that contains a table inside of a list. When I view this report on my local machine via Visual Studio, everything appears normal, the columns are all the correct size. However, as soon as I publish this report to the report server and attempt to view it via Report Manager, one of the columns expands horizontally!

From all of the documentation I have read, I understand that Reporting Services does not provide the ability for columns to expand horizontally, only vertically. Can anyone help explain why this is happening or a possible solution to turn this automatic expanding off?

Many thanks,

Administrative Rights For Local Machine To Deploy Dynamically Created Report From Web App To Report Server

Feb 5, 2007

The current way I have my asp.net 2.0 web app running reports is, based on an
interface the user selects the criteria for a report. The .RDL file is created
dynamically based on the user's selections.
I then need to SOAP the dynamically created report to the report server and
then the report runs fine.
BUT it requires Adminstrative rights to do this. Can this be accomplished
without giving the local machine admin rights. I am sorry if this question
has been answered before but i have not been up here in a while.

PageBreaks Not Properly Rendered In Deployed Report On Report Server

Oct 25, 2007

Hi All,

We have 10 charts in One RDL file, out of these 10 charts 3 Pie charts are displayed dynamically,
Using 'Visibility' property expression in the 'Hidden' sub property as below.

Code Block
=iif(Sum(Fields!Total.Value, "DataSet")=0,true,False)

Which returns 'true' or 'false' for 'Hidden' property.
Each chart has to be displayed on separate page, hence we have set 'PageBreakAtEnd' Property to true for each chart.

Problem:
But, when this RDL file is deployed on report server, these charts are all displayed on single page without any page breaks.
however, when the RDL file is exported in PDF format, the report is rendered with charts on separate pages as expected.

Is there any way to ensure the charts are rendered properly, in report viewer of report server ?

How To Secure Report Server And Report Pages For Account Not Having Permission?

Mar 27, 2007

I want to make the ReportServer and Reports pages secured i.e not allow anyone to access these pages via browser.

I login to a machine as user ABC. This user does not have permission on reports.
if this user accesses ReportServer or Reports, expected is that access should be denied unless I enter
an account that has been given permissions.
for e.x. following pages should be secured.
http://<reportserver>/Reports
http://<reportserver>/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2f<Report_Project>%2f<Report_Name>
http://<reportserver>/ReportServer
http://<reportserver>/ReportServer?%2f<Report_Project>&rs:Command=ListChildren

Actual result is that I am able to access these pages. When I click on the report I get the error (this is expected)
but then user ABC should be shown error on first page itself.

In short, for all the accounts that do not already have permissions on reports, the server should challenge me to enter an account and password.
Is there some setting in the configuration file?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance!
