DT_TEXT Not Supported While Importing From An XML File?

Jul 27, 2006

I have an XML file that contains a field that has over 8000 characters in it. I cannot use a (n)varchar for it, I must use a Text for it (although as a last resort I could split the string into several (n)varchar columns). I want to set the external column of the XML column to a DT_TEXT and I receive and error message that states :

Error at Import XFFD Data [xffd [1]]: The SSIS Data Flow Task data type "DT_TEXT" on the external metadata column "reviewText" (32411) is not supported for the component "xffd" (1).

I've tried converting the nvarchar into a text stream with the use of a Data Conversion Transform, but I think the Validating steps are truncating the field.

HELP. I've been beating my head against this for a couple hours a day.

Thanks,
Scott

Requested Conversion Is Not Supported Error In DTS Data Copy.

I have a DTS that pulls data in from a table in MysQL and inserts it into a tablle in SQL Server. it's failing when I run the step with the "requestd conversion is not supported" error, but when testing each single column copy in the Data Transformation step, it passes.

SQL 2012 :: SSIS Conversion Between Types Is Not Supported

Nov 18, 2014

As part of an ETL conversion I have dataflow task created that copies data from one table to another, we use it as a way to rename fields and change data types. What is strange is that the OLE DB SQL destination has not issue if I copy data from an int to smallint and in another case from an int to a numeric field and it runs fine. So I decided to test using a SQL Server Destination as I heard it may be faste that using OLE Db.

No I am getting the following error

Error: 0xC02020F5 at Insert into TRANSACTION, SQL Server Destination [32]: The column "ID" can't be inserted because the conversion between types DT_I4 and DT_NUMERIC is not supported.
Error: 0xC02020F5 at Insert into TRANSACTION, SQL Server Destination [32]: The column "ID1" can't be inserted because the conversion between types DT_I4 and DT_I2 is not supported.

I do understand the error but not why it runs fine using the OLE DB but when running it through SQL Server Destination I get this error.

Conversion Between Types DT_I1 And DT_I2 Is Not Supported-I Can't Be The Only One...

May 6, 2008

I'm not a DBA but I'm doing what is turning into way too much work... Yes I understand you want to do memory intensive data conversions and SQL server is not tolerant, etc....

But, I have to get my data from a flat source into a table in SQL server. I know DT_I1 is a 1 byte signed integer, I see System.Byte, but surprise, NONE of the TYPES in defining my table in SQL Server Management Studio correspond to any type that it accepts.

What am I doing wrong?

I have a table in SQL Server. I know DT_I8 is Bigint, I know DT_I4 is Int. Bigint and Int, for example, are two types I have access to when I'm building my table. But what on EARTH is DT_I1? It is NOT a TYPE that I can dropdown and choose.

My SSIS package has a Flat File Source that points to my comma delimeted file on my PC, it has a Data Conversion element that seems to do nothing..., and of course a SQL Server Destination which is my table.

I would rather just have the SSIS package create the right table on the fly.

DTS was much easier, I know, not as efficient for 1,000,000 rows, but guess what, there are still small to medium size businesses that don't need that efficiency to get in 1MM rows +, we just need to get our jobs done.

Help...

P.S. I'm creating the SSIS in MS Visual Studio Professional.

Data Conversion Supported On Standard Edition?

Jun 18, 2007

I created an Integration Services Package that runs fine from my local computer using BIDS. However when I imported into our SQL Server and try to run it from there I get the following error:

DTS_E_PRODUCTLEVELTOLOW. The product level is insufficient for component "Data Conversion"

We are running SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition 64-bit.

We have integration services installed on the server. Is data conversion something that is not supported on Standard Edition?

Also have a similar message for "Send Mail Task."

Is there anywhere that outlines what features are supported on each version?

...conversion Between Types DT_I1 And DT_I2 Is Not Supported

May 30, 2006

I created a simple ragged file with 3 lines:

1
2
3

and coupled it to a Flat File Source. The Flat File Source suggested that the type was DT-I1.

Next I created a €œSQL Server Destination task and connected the output of the Flat File to the Sql Destination. In the Destination editor I created a table, whose one column was declared to be a sql smallint.

Here€™s the problem: the Sql Server Destination now displays a red circle with a white €œx€?. The tooltip says that: €œThe column €œColumn 0€? can€™t be inserted because the conversion between types DT_I1 and DT_I2 is not supported€?

Can anyone explain why the conversion is not supported?

TIA,

Barkingdog

P.S. It's not kidding! When I changed the Flat File Source type to DT-I2 everything worked fine.

How To Fix DT_Text And DT_NText Read Only In Script Component

Nov 13, 2006

I have a script component that I have written and works as long as the Output columns on the script are string types.  When I change the output column type to text (since the size could be essentially unlimited) it gives an error in the script component that the property is read only.

Here is the code line that fails with Property Payments is read only.

Output0Buffer.Payments = fieldValues(i)

If I change the column payments to DT_Wstr it works without issue, but I want to use text incase the value is large.

Here is the error if you try to run the actual script even though I know it has an error.

How Do I Pass Through DT_TEXT Fields In Fuzzy Lookup Transformation

Nov 14, 2007

Hello Experts,

In my Data Flow Task I have a Fuzzy Lookup transformation. In the Columns tab of the Fuzzy Lookup Transformation Editor, if I attempt to select a field for pass through that is a DT_TEXT data type, I get the error:

Validation error. Data Flow Task: Fuzzy Lookup [3532]: The data type of column 'event_list' is not supported.Package.dtsx

BOL says, "Only input columns with the DT_WSTR and DT_STR data types can be used in fuzzy matching...." But I'm not doing fuzzy matching on the DT_TEXT column, I'm just trying to pass it through to the transformation's output. BOL doesn't say anything about this data type being incompatible with passing through to the output.

Any thoughts on how I may workaround this issue? I was thinking I would need to perform the lookup on a subset of the columns without the DT_TEXT field and then merge the data back together at the end. But, if there's a setting or some other way, please let me know.

CASE is not supported Error in a View

In SQL 7, when a view parses the below code, it generates a 'CASE is not Supported' error'; however, it will still generate and show the field with the CASE statements correctly; What might cause this error?

(Other useful info: this code is from a converted SQL 6.5 DB and the SQL 7 is running in compatibility mode, i inserted '' to remove concantenation of NULL problems;)

Example of display:
10132 Hampton, VA: A. Deepak Publishing

SELECT PublisherID, Info = CASE WHEN City IS NOT NULL
THEN City + CASE WHEN State IS NOT NULL
THEN ', ' + State ELSE '' END + ': ' ELSE ''
END + Publisher

The Requested Properties Cannot Be Supported - Error

Mar 28, 2007

I have a strange issue on my local test environment (Win XP Pro SP 2 - SQL server 2000 with SP4 and IIS 5.1 ), where I get an error in the Select statement if I do not include the database owner prefix, like "select * from patients where PID< 200".

If I change it to "Select * from hprs.patients where PID<200" it works fine.

However, in more complex SQL, where I have joins, and sub queries, I still get errors on my local test machine, but the live server works fine.

I use the calls in classic ASP pages on a web site and I did not get this before, only after I re-instaled SQL Server 2000 to fix another issue I had on my machine.

On the live server (also SQL Server 2000) I do not get the error.

Is there a setting I can change on my local dvelopment environment so that it is not a requirement to include the DB owner in the SQL?

Any help with this will certainly save me a lot of re writing tons of SQL so I can still test before publishing.

Thanks - Hans

Method Not Supported Error When Trying To Create New Report Model

Jan 21, 2008

I'm trying to create a few report models in Visual Studio to demonstrate the Report Builder tool and I'm encountering an issue when I try to generate a Report Model.

I get the error message "Specified Method Is Not Supported" when I click Finish on the Report Model wizard. The error detail is:

===================================
Specified method is not supported. (Microsoft Visual Studio)
------------------------------
Program Location:
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Wizards.ChooseSemanticModelName.CreateSqlDsvStatisticsProvider(IDbConnection connection)
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Wizards.ChooseSemanticModelName.BuildModel()

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new Report Model project in Visual Studio 2005 against SQL Server 2005
2. Create a new data source. The data source was tested and works correctly
3. Create a new data source view. The data source view was also tested (clicked on Explore Data) and I was able to look at the data in the view
4. Right-click on Report Models and select "Add New Report Model"
5. Click next at the welcome screen
6. Select the data source view created in #3
7. Leave the selected options for report model generation rules for creating the data source view
(Create Entities for all Tables, Create Count Aggregates, Create Attributes, Create Attributes for auto-increment columns, Create date variations, Create numeric aggregates, Create date aggregates, Create roles were all selected)
8. Click next
9. Select Update Model Statistics Before Generating (default option)
10. Click next
11. Click Run

Once I click run it processes for approx 3 seconds and then returns the error above.

If anyone could help me I'd appreciate it. Microsoft hasn't published any details on the namespace and I'm not sure why I'd be getting the error I am.

Thanks in advane,
Maurice

Casting DT_WSTR To Integers In SSIS

Jul 5, 2007

Hello, all.

Why is it that, despite what is said in the sketchy SQL Help content, it appears to be impossible to cast a string to an integer in the Expression Builder to generate a value for a variable? More specifically, why does the following expression cause an error?

(DT_UI4) (SUBSTRING(@[User::FullDataPath], LEN(@[User:ataPath]) + 1, 2))

I'm iterating over files and using the name of a given file as an ID for an operation. I simply want to grab a file name using the Foreach Loop Container and process that file, while at the same time use the name in another operation. The file name will be something like "2.txt" (full path something like "c:somethingsomething2.txt"). I can use string functions to return the file name, which is a number as a string, and it should be no problem to cast that number as a string to a number (an Int32). SQL Server 2005 help has a chart that indicates such a cast is legal.

Maybe it's a crazy thing to be doing. Maybe I have to go about this a completely different way, but casting from "2" to 2 should be possible in the Expression Builder.

Thanks for any help.

How To Convert DT_WSTR To DT_DBDate In Expression

May 2, 2007

Hi all,

Actually trying to add one month to current variables value so I can process per month data in for loop for that I have written the following statement in Assign Expression Part of For Loop
dateadd("Month",1,((DT_DBDATE)(@[User::_year]+"/"+@[User::_month]+"/"+"01"))) here I am getting the error message that error converting from data type dt_wstr to to datatype dt_dbdate

@[User::_year] contains year value like 2003 and @[User::_month] contains month value like 1 using these variables I want to add the month to the date created by using these both variables.

so this is the first part to add the month to date and other part is to assign new value to variables by using datepart function

any help and guidance related to this whether I am doing right or not if any other wayout to acheive this goal.

'Keyword Not Supported: 'provider' Error When Connecting To SQL Server Database

Jan 22, 2008

I've run into a bit of a database connection problem. I'm trying to connect to a SQL Server database. It compiles okay, but then while IE is loading, I get an exception error pointing out in the code saying 'Keyword not supported: 'provider'.

How To Convert DT_NTEXT To DT_WSTR In Script Component

Oct 24, 2006

The IC column referenced in the script below is DT_NTEXT, so when I run it the output value column gets "Microsoft.SqlServer.DTS.Pipeline.BlobColumn" instead of the individual codes (separated by "*"). Also, there is only 1 output row per input row, instead of 1 output row per code.

I found some references to the GetBobData() method, but replacing Row.IC.ToString() with Row.IC.GetBlobData(0, CInt(Row.IC.Length)).ToString() puts "System.Byte[]" in the value output column. There is still only output row per input row.

So how do I convert the IC column to a String that can be Split()?Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer)
Dim seq As Integer = 0
For Each code As String In Row.IC.ToString().Split("*"c)
'Add a row to the output buffer:
Output0Buffer.AddRow()

'Preserve columns from the input buffer:
Output0Buffer.itemid = Row.itemid
Output0Buffer.attributeid = Row.attributeid
'Output0Buffer.IC = Row.IC

'Add output columns:
Output0Buffer.seq = seq
Output0Buffer.value = code
seq += 1
Next
End Sub

DT_GUID To DT_WSTR Yields Braces Around Uniqueidentifier

Sep 8, 2006

I'm using a Lookup component to add a DT_GUID column named cat_id to a data flow, which is used in a downstream Derived Column component to add a DT_WSTR column named value. The DC expression simply casts the uniqueidentifier to the desired type: (DT_WSTR, 434)cat_id

But when the values are persisted in the destination table's nvarchar(434) column, they have braces around them, e.g. {F475DB7F-5CB0-4EE1-9BF2-758C77D7A6D7}

What is introducing those braces, and what do I need to do to prevent it?

MySAP Business Suite ERROR: Table Class INTTAB Is Not Supported.

Sep 13, 2007

Hi there,

we collect data from SAP via the Data Provider for MySAP Business Suite.
Everything works fine for Standard objects like KNA1 etc. but if we try to read data from a custom table we get the following error:

Code Snippet

Fehler bei Get ZZEUSGRP_WA [SAP ZZEUSGRP_WA [1]]: Microsoft.Adapter.SAP.SAPManagedProviderException: Table class INTTAB is not supported.
bei Microsoft.Adapter.SAP.SAPSelectHandler.CheckResult(SAPTable returnTab)
bei Microsoft.Adapter.SAP.SAPSelectHandler.ExecuteSelect(SAPTable tabFields, SAPTable tabStruct_Tab....
The error message tells me not to use a specific table type. So far so good.
The question is: What would be the workaround? What should I tell the SAP team who cares for the data structures?

Thank you for your advice in advance
Fridtjof

AS 400 Data Being Interpreted As Unicode Strings (DT_WSTR) Datatype

Jun 23, 2006

I am building a data warehouse. Some of the data comes from an AS 400 EPR system. I used the OLEDB connector when first pulling the data into SQL Server doing simple import data from table option. That worked great for getting the initial data load into SQL Server and creating the base SQL Server tables although it was excruciatingly slow (that was probably due to the transport from the AS 400).

Now, I need to get new records that are added to the AS400 side of things on a daily basis. For that, I was trying to use the OLEDB AS400 connector. However, I found that the OLEDB connector wouldn't work when I was trying to specify an SQL Statement for what to get; i.e., a simple query like Select * from TWLDAT.STKT where BYSDAT >= '2005-01-27' would simply not work. Found articles here explaining that it is probably a problem on the AS400 side of things and where people recommended using an ADO ODBC data reader source for this type of thing. So, I'm trying to implement that. However, I have a huge problem with it.

The original tables that got created were mapped to use NVARCHAR fields for character data. When the ADO ODBC data reader source accesses the AS400 data, it insists on interpreting the string type fields as being unicode strings and giving it a data type of DT_WSTR when what I need it to have is a plain old DT_STR data type. When the strings are interpreted as unicode strings, they cannot be converted in a way that allows the NVARCHAR fields to be filled with the data. The exact error message I get for all the fields that should wind up being nvarchar fields is as follows:

Column "BYStOK" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.

Okay, so I try to change the data types in the ADO ODBC data reader to be plain DT_STR data types and I cannot do so.

Does anyone have any idea why the ADO ODBC data reader source insists on interpreting the string data coming from the AS 400 as unicode string data or why it refuses to allow that to be changed to DT_STR data type?

Thanks in advance for any info. By the way, if there is a better way than the ADO ODBC data source to get at this data when I need to specify an SQL command, I would love to hear about it. Not wild about using ODBC in the OLEDB age.
