(Report Model Deployment Error) The Value Of Parameter 'DataSources' Is Not Valid
Dec 12, 2005
I've got a report model I am trying to move from a development server to a production server. I published it to my development RS, exported the SMDL file, then uploaded it to the production server. At that point, I tried assigning the data source to the model and got the error:

Hi,
I have got a quistion in regards to SQL Server Reporting Services 2005. We're currently using the SSRS in one of our applciations with 20+ reports. We need to deplaoy 2 instances of an applciation: Test and Production. These applcaitions are running off two different databases in SQL Server [DBName]_Test and [DBName]_Live. So far all of our reports have been written to use a shared datasource. This worked fine untill we had to deploy a Live instance of the application, where the shared datasource is overwritten with the live one.
Now we have manually created a new shared datasource called [DataSource]_Live. However, whenever we need to redeploy the reports from visual studio, we then have to go though each report and point it to a correct datasource. This is extremly manual process - and takes up a lot of time...
Surely there must be an easier way around this (without duplicating the reporting project in VS.NET / or having to modify the datasource fr each report manually each time)?
Thanks in advance,
Nick Goloborodko

New to report services and trying out my first report. I have a report with a simple parameter lookup. When I preview it in Visual Studio it works fine. I can select the parameter value and it returns back the correct information.
When trying to preview the deployed version of the report I get the following error after selecting the parameter value and clicking preview. I am not sure where I need to declare the variable @owners.
Thanks

Hi,
I have created a report using Report designer (Visual Studio, using Data Model as a data source), in the report I had created few datasets (with single filed) to populate the report parameters, lets say I have created a multi valued Parameter CustomerName and assigned field from a dataset,
result are coming correctly and combo box is getting populated but the customers are not in alphabetical order!
I want to sort it and need to specify it in report (please note that I am using Report Model as a data source and I can€™t sort the source table in the data base to get the result sorted)
Please let me know if anybody has done that or forward me if know some link which talks about it.
Thanks in advance.

I am trying to create a column chart that calculates the percentage of computers in our IT environment that are Actively communicating to our SCCM Server.
I have two datasets:
1. Total_Count_Of_AD_PC DataSet.
2. PC_With_Active_SCCM_Clients dataset.
Basically i wan to calculate the percentage for each Region (i.e. AP for Asia Pacific, EMEA, Americas).
Below is the Total_Count_Of_AD_PC  Dataset screenshot.
Below is the PC_With_Active_SCCM_Clients dataset.
Below is the expression that i used that is causing the error.
=CountDistinct(IIf(Fields!Region.Value="AP", "PC_With_Active_SCCM_Clients"),(Fields!Name.Value, "PC_With_Active_SCCM_Clients"),Nothing)/CountDistinct(IIf(Fields!Region.Value="AP", "Total_Count_Of_AD_PC"),(Fields!name.Value,
"Total_Count_Of_AD_PC"),Nothing)
Below is the error message....
The Y expression for the chart ‘Chart2’ has a scope parameter that is not valid for an aggregate function. The scope parameter must be set to a string constant that is equal to either the name of a containing group, the name of a containing data region, or the name of a dataset.

Hi,
I'm using the reports designer in Visual Studio 2005 Professional and have successfully been deploying reports to my client's server for several months. Now I can't deploy any reports, when I try Visual Studio almost hangs, tries for about 5 minutes to deploy a single report and then fails with an error message:
TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer
------------------------------
A connection could not be made to the report server http://winserver/ReportServer.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The operation has timed out (System.Web.Services)
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
It used to ask me for username/password for the server (credentials), now it doesn't do that. I can go to the reports server and reports interface pages in my browser OK. The reports build without any errors.
Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on how to get it working again?

Greg

I have created a report on my local machine and deployed it on a server. As I am the administrator of the server, I can access the reports with servernameReports. The report has got three data sets. Out of these three one is a Stored procedure and other two data sets have sql queries. The user selects the 'Business year' and 'sales type' from list box. This report works perfect from my local machine as well as from teh server when I am running it
I have some other users who wish to access these reports. I did the following steps:
Created a new role and assigned it at the Data Source Folder and Reports Folder
I also made the user a Database user on the server.
After doing these steps, the user can access the Reports site by servernameReports.
The user then can go into the Reports folder. But when the user tries to run the report, he gets an error with:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for data set 'BusinessYear'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
Can anyone help me with this? Is htere something to do with setting up of the datasource?
I have tried to search, but could not find relevant info.
Any help/Pointers will be really appreciated.
regards
Joshker

I'm working through the SQL2005 Reporting Services Tutorial. When I try to deploy, I get the error "Connection could not be made to the report server." It appears that I do not have permissions to get to localhost/reportserver (I get a permissions error when just trying to get there directly from "run"). In another forum I saw several people having the same issue. One contributor said that the problem was solved for him by uninstalling SQL2005 and reinstalling using the local system account rather than a windows domain account. I tried that, but am getting the same error. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hello,
I am currently working with SQL 2005 Reporting Services and MS Visual studio 2005.
In my SQL server I have data about organizations, so that each organization's data is stored in an individual database.
In addition, the number of organizations/databases is variable. I know the number of organizations and the name of each one (that it agrees with the name of its database)
because there is a database (organizationsDB) with a table (organizationsTB) containing the list of the organizations.
So, It would be possible to create a report containing a summary of each organization? .... for example a table in which each row contains data of each organization.
Could you give me any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

I've searched forums and found responses from 2006 forward, but none that I'd find satisfactory, so if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
I'm using SQL have SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 SP2. I've successfully used SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio to create reports and charts from data stored in an Oracle 10g database.
I have a distributed team and while I'm creating the official reports, I need them to be able to utilize the Report Builder to create their own reports for day to day management of their own activities.
I created a Data Source and a Data Source View successfully. When I tried to utilize the Report Model Wizard to create a report model the builder can use, I get an error.
ORA-02179: valid options: ISOLATION LEVEL { SERIALIZABLE | READ COMMITTED }
I've read that this was ''fixed" with SP2. I've also read that there are work-arounds (which I don't necessarily understand). However, I've read plenty of MS documentation that says that this should work.
Can anyone provide any clarity around where my problem lies and how I might mitigate?
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I removed a role in the datasourceview of a datamodel. Later I removed the role in the reportmodel. There are always two roles for one relation. Now I only have one role left and I can't delete it anymore.
This is the error I get when building the project.
Error 2 The RelatedRoleID property of the Role 'invoicelineid' refers to the Role 'Gd1b03590-f98b-46aa-945d-c90ccd5d6028', which is not in the same SemanticModel as the Role 'invoicelineid'. Max generiek.smdl 0 0
When I try to remove the role I'll get an error : object reference not set to an instance of an object.
If I look at the properties of the role I see that when I open 'related role' there is nothing in it, except an ID: Gd1b03590-f98b-46aa-945d-c90ccd5d6028 and as name: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
I also tried to remove the whole entity but that resulted in the same error. It's not an option for mee to remove the whole model and autogenerate it again, but there is too much work in it already.
If I try to remove this thing in the xml itself it gives other errors and the model won't load anymore.
I hope somebody has a solution for this.
thanks in advance,
Julian Kooiker

Hello,
I have created a report model project using BI studio, to try ad-hoc reporting. In that project, i have also created a report model for a database named Galactic that resides in my sql server instance. When i want to deploy the project to the report server it gives following error:
Error 1 The path of the item '//GDS/Models' is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long; other restrictions apply. If the report server is in native mode, the path must start with slash. 0 0
Properties of my project are as follows:
OverriteDataSources : False
TargetDataSourceFolder : /GDS/Shared Reports
TargetModelFolder : /GDS/Models
TargetServerURL : http://localhost/ReportServer
By the way, i have a second problem. When i try to open the url "http://localhost/ReportServer" it asks for a user name and password. altough i provide my windows account's user name and password which have administrator rights, they are not accepted.

I'm trying to create a few report models in Visual Studio to demonstrate the Report Builder tool and I'm encountering an issue when I try to generate a Report Model.
I get the error message "Specified Method Is Not Supported" when I click Finish on the Report Model wizard. The error detail is:
===================================
Specified method is not supported. (Microsoft Visual Studio)
------------------------------
Program Location:
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Wizards.ChooseSemanticModelName.CreateSqlDsvStatisticsProvider(IDbConnection connection)
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Wizards.ChooseSemanticModelName.BuildModel()
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new Report Model project in Visual Studio 2005 against SQL Server 2005
2. Create a new data source. The data source was tested and works correctly
3. Create a new data source view. The data source view was also tested (clicked on Explore Data) and I was able to look at the data in the view
4. Right-click on Report Models and select "Add New Report Model"
5. Click next at the welcome screen
6. Select the data source view created in #3
7. Leave the selected options for report model generation rules for creating the data source view
(Create Entities for all Tables, Create Count Aggregates, Create Attributes, Create Attributes for auto-increment columns, Create date variations, Create numeric aggregates, Create date aggregates, Create roles were all selected)
8. Click next
9. Select Update Model Statistics Before Generating (default option)
10. Click next
11. Click Run
Once I click run it processes for approx 3 seconds and then returns the error above.
If anyone could help me I'd appreciate it. Microsoft hasn't published any details on the namespace and I'm not sure why I'd be getting the error I am.
Thanks in advane,
Maurice

Is it possible to use a ReportViewer control (or something in .net) to change connection strings of a report's datasources?
The connection string comes from a shared data source, so using an expression for the connection string in the actual report is out.
Essentially, I'm looking to tack on Analysis Services cube role(s) to the connection string to change data permissions. If there's another way to do this with a RS report, I'm all ears.

In MS Visual Studio, when creating a new Report Model Project, after defining a datasource to an Oracle database (and successfully testing it), and a simple datasource view (1 table), when I click "Run" in Report Model Wizard, I receive the following error:
"ORA-02179: valid options: ISOLATION LEVEL { SERIALIZABLE | READ COMMITTED }"
It does not appear that one can create Report Models from an Oracle database (since the SQL being used to query the Oracle database cannot be edited and contains syntax errors?). Is this the case?
Thank you.

I am extracting RS reports through a WebService:
report = execService.Render("EXCEL", null, out extension, out mimeType, out encoding, out warnings, out streamIds);
Some works fine but some are generating the following SoapException:
Error during processing of €˜ReportParameterTime€™ report parameter. ---> Error during processing of €˜ReportParameterTime€™ report parameter. ---> Error during processing of €˜ReportParameterTime€™ report parameter.
I set required parameters to their default values. In this specific report I have two required parameters:
1: ReportParameterTime, String
2: ReportParameter1, String
I set them to their default values (ReportParameterTime to "[Czas].[Kalendarzowy].[Rok].&[2007]" - means
Time Calendar Year 2007) but I am getting the exception above. I set parameters using this code:
execService.SetExecutionParameters(parameterValues.ToArray(), CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Name);
Where parameterValues is a List<ReportExecution2005.ParameterValue>.
When I am using Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer the report is generated without
any problems. I can see one parameter to choose: "Kalendarzowy" (means adj. Calendar) and can
select years, the default value is "2007".
What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this error ? Does anybody know ?

I have a VS 2012 SSIS project with more and more packages being added. I've got project parameters so I'm committed to the project deployment model (which is pretty convenient BTW). My question is how we're supposed to occasionally limit the packages we want deployed. There are times when 2 or more packages may be in development and 1 is deployable and the other not. I can temporarily exclude the not ready package and then deploy. It seems cumbersome bringing it back in. BIDS complains that all the tasks have lost their connection managers; even though they're are present in the editor. And it makes a copy of the .dtsx.
what's the recommended way to work in this environment?
