Aug 26, 2002I am unable to insert record in a field which is null and unique. It does not accept NULL value again in the same field. It shows error UNIQUE KEY VIOLATION.

I currently have two servers, one is a SBS2003 server running SQL 2005 and SSRS (2005) and a 2000 SQL server. I want to extract data from the 2000 server but keep getting this error: "Remote access to report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. (rsOperationNotSupported)
When Iooked up this error, the only information I get is telling me that I can't do this in SQL Express, I'm not sure but I think the standard SQL in SBS is at least Workgroup?? What can I do to correct this?

Linked Server Unable To Insert Result Into A Table
Jul 12, 2007I have a 2000 machine which calls a stored procedure on another 2000 machine via a linked server. The results come back and insert into a temporary table.
When I use the same code executing the from the 2000 machine over to 2005 machine via a linked server I cannot insert into the table. But I am able to see the data if I remove the insert statement.
I have tried to place the data into a permanent table without success. I have also checked to be sure the linked server properties are the same.
Any help on this would be appreciated. Below is the code. It is very simple and returns only one value but the bigger procedure that is ran returns several records and mutliple columns. This seems to easy but doesn't work.

Unable To Run Trace Definitions In SQL Server 2000

In SQL Server 7, we had the option of opening a previously saved trace template and running it inorder to run a previously saved trace defintion repeatedly.
File > Open > Trace Definition
and choosing the Trace Name. Clicking OK would run the trace.
How do we do the same in SQL Server 2000?
File > Open > Trace Template
opens a Trace template but has only a 'Save' button and I'm therefore unable to run it.
How is it possible to run a previously defined trace repeatedly in SQL server 2000?

I'm updating a record through a thirdparty component but I don't think the component is the problem. What'shappening is that I'm updating fields that are part of view. I'm onlyupdating fields in one table of the view and this works fine in thedevelopment environment.What happens in the production environment when I try to update(using the third party component) I get the following message:"Current recordset does not support updating. This may be a limitationof the provider or of the selected locktype."As an experiment I took the same code but removed the view, leavingonly the table I want to update as the record source. In that case theupdate worked. So it seems that something in the production databasedoesn't like me updating a view. However I can do that in the databasein the development environment.The third party component is dbnetgrid which works fine in thedevelopment environment. I can only conclude it's something about thedatabase that prevents me from updating this same table if it's in aview. I've talked to our DBA but he says there's no difference betweenthe databases. I'm trying to set up a transactional replication from SQl Server 2005 to SQl server 2000. The Distributor and the publisher are on our server and the subscription is supposed to be on a SQL 2000 server on a different location. Before upgrading to 2005 I didn't have problems - the replication from 2000 to 2000 was working perfectly.
After I succesfully created the distributor and the publication the first problem that I encountered was that when I tried to create the subscription it was giving me an error that I cannot use an IP to acces the server. I realized to fix that issue by creating an Alias in the SQL Server Configuration Manager for the server where I wanted to create the subscription (a push subscription).
Now when I try to add the subscriber it gives me another message "Execute permission denied on object 'sp_MS_replication_installed', database 'master', owner 'dbo'" - so I cannot create the subscriber.
The user that I use to create the subscriber on the 2000 server is dbo for the subscriber database but it doesn't have rights on the master database. Also I realized that on the 2000 server I still have the old subscription but I cannot delete it - for the same reason - no access on the master database. Before upgrading to 2005 I had the exact same rights on the 2000 server.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am using VS2005 and Sql Server 2000 (personal edition). I am able to connect with SqlClient Provider on Local Machine (when db server and VS2005 on same machine). But I try to connect SqlServer on different machine it is not allowing me to connect. If I use SqlOledb Provider it got connected.
Please tell me how could I connect with DB server (Sql Server 2000) from remote machine.
Unable To Install SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Version
Jan 25, 2007I know this is old database but when I download this evaluation from microsoft website, I got problem installing it. First, I unzip it. By default, it is unzip to C:SQLEVAL. Then, I went to install it. I don't which file I should click. So, I double click the autorun file. When I did that, there is a screen, I saw the screen saying "microsoft SQL Server 2000 Evaluation version". Then, I click "SQL Server 2000 Components"
Then, it comes to next page, and I click "Install Database Server". But after I did that, nothing happens! After I click again the same thing all over again, it says "Another instance of setup is already running".
I'm using Window XP Professional. Anyone encounter this problem before? I tried to re-download the file and reinstall but also the same problem. Really need help. Thanks.

I have a SQL database and it was converted from Pervasive. During the database conversion, by mistake it was transfered the NULLs in numeric fileds. Do anybody have any ideea how can we corect this? I'm thinking if is any way to check for corrupted data.

Apr 2, 2007I am getting this error: "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'OrderID', table 'outman.outman.Contact'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails." -- But my value is not null. I did a response.write on it and it show the value. Of course, it would be nice if I could do a breakpoint but that doesn't seem to be working. "SQL Server CE Tool is compatible only with SQL Server 2000 Service pack 1 and higher.When you install SQL Server CE Server Tools on a computer running both IIS and SQL Server 2000 , ensure the installer for SQL Server CE Server Tools corresponds To the version of SQL Server 2000."

I have installed "SQL Server 2000 SP 4" to SQL server and it is running fine.
But when i install the "SQL Server CE version 2.0 Update for use with IIS and SQL Server 2000 SP4", i get below error:
"SQL Server CE Tool is compatible only with SQL Server 2000 Service pack 1 and higher.
When you install SQL Server CE Server Tools on a computer running both IIS and SQL Server 2000 , ensure the installer for SQL Server CE Server Tools corresponds To the version of SQL Server 2000."
I have go thougth few articles in the forum, try to open the sqlce20sql2ksp4.exe file and then run only the MSI, but still fail.
By the way, i found that the sqlce20sql2ksp4.exe does not include any MSI, it is a direct executable file.
Appreciate if anyone tell me the solution.

Unable To Create Unique Constraint On A NULL Column

I am trying to add a unique index/constraint on a column that allows NULL values. The column does have NULL values and when I try to create a unique constraint, I get the following error.
CREATE UNIQUE INDEX terminated because a duplicate key was found for index ID 9. Most significant primary key is '<NULL>'.
Are'nt you allowed to create a UNIQUE constraint on a NULL column? Books Online says that you are allowed to create a unique constraint on NULL columns, then why am I getting this error.
Any help would be appreciated.

Unable To Pass Null Value With DropDownList Parameter In Reporting Services 2005

Hello,
I have a stored procedure that on two fields it allows null. On the report, I have two DropDownList boxes that are populated with data, however, I would like the user to be able to have the option of not selecting an item from these list, thus passing null to the stored procedure.
When I goto "Report | Report Parameters" I have set these fields to "allow null" and "allow blank" and at the bottom I also gave it the default value of null.
When I run the report in preview mode, those two dropdownlist have a <Select a Value> and my assumption is since I want them to pass null, I will just leave them that way. However, when the report is ran, I receive an error saying "Please select a value for the parameter: (my parameter)". So it forces me to select an option at which I don't want to do.
How can I set this to pass a null?

Problem With Insert , Cannot Insert NULL Value

I have created a table like this:
create table Teacher(tid integer,
fname varchar(20),
lname varchar(30),
primary key(tid));
Well i insert many Teachers uning : insert into values ... etc.
These inserts are being placed in an sql file named insert.sql.
All the insertions are fine.
Now I'm trying to insert another teacher using another file e.g. my_insert.sql and it says cannot insert NULL into teacher tid etc.
Why does this happen,in my my_insert.sql file all the filds of the tid are filled with non null values?
What's going wrong?

Oct 17, 2005I need to do a conditional insert, and I am afraid that if I do it in 2 steps it will create bugs...I have a table called customers and a table called lockscustomers has 3 fields CustomerID, FirstName, and LastNamelocks has fields LockID, CustomerID, UserID, SessionID, and TimeStampI need to check if there are any records in Locks for a CustomerID and if there are none, I need to insert One.This is going to tell my application that this Customer record is locked so no one else can edit it, until the Lock record is deleted.I just don't want to make 2 trips, One to check if the Lock exists, then One to insert the Lock, since this could allow 2 locks to be created if the timing is correct.Any ideas or comments?

and other Server machine with hardware configuration the following :

+ CPU : 3.6 GHz( intel Xeon)
+System : Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprice Edition , Service Pack 2
(use RAID 5)
(this is call Machine2 )
.And SQL Server 2000 is installed in these machine.
I created one table and one script to insert several records into this table. and script for inserting:

+ Machine1 : spent 3 seconds.
+ Machine2 : spent 30 seconds. I don't understand why Machine2 is slower than Machine1 ( while configuration of Machine2 is better than Machine1's ). I don't know what happen.
I checked resource usages in perfmon when SQL server execute script and result following :
Machine1:
Proccessor used 100%
whereas,Machine2 used physical Disk 100%
Is there the way to configurate SQL server to improve speed writting of hard disk?

Apr 16, 2015If I have a table with 1 or more Nullable fields and I want to make sure that when an INSERT or UPDATE occurs and one or more of these fields are left to NULL either explicitly or implicitly is there I can set these to non-null values without interfering with the INSERT or UPDATE in as far as the other fields in the table?
EXAMPLE:

I've heard of INSTEAD of Triggers but I'm not trying tto over rise the entire INSERT or update just the on (maybe 2) fields that are being left as null or explicitly set to null. The same would apply for any UPDATE where DateModified is not specified or explicitly set to NULL. I would want to change it so that DateModified is not null on any UPDATE.

To display these cols correctly, my asp.net nust have directive with CodePage="1252" ContentType="text/html;charset=BIG5". I can not update, or insert big5 character into these columns via .aspx page. I'm using .net framework 2.0. Please help me, thanks a lot for any help.

Nov 14, 2003Im having a lot of trouble inserting a small time value into a table cell. I gave the cell column the data type 'DateTime', i found i couldnt manually insert a time only value such as '12:30 PM' into a column with 'SmallDateTime'. Something about a "SmallDateTime Overflow Error". However if i enter a similar time value into a table column with the data type 'DateTime' it will happily accept it and leave it as entered.
The real problem seems to be when i try to send a time value to that column with my ASP.NET application. Because it inserts the time value and todays date. So that if i send:
12:30 PM
It will be stored as:
15/11/2003 12:30:00 PM
I only want to store the short time, not the date especially not the date that row was created on because thats useless for the purposes of what my application is trying to achieve and just creates problems down the track when selecting rows.
How can i correct this?
