0x80040E21 Error Trying To Move From Access To Sql Express
Mar 23, 2006
Hi
I am tearing my hair out. I have tried upgrading form access to sql express. I have built the database and written all of my stored procedures. I think I am having problems with connecting to the server. I am storing my connection in the web.config. I am trying to open the datbase and add populate a reader, but i keep getting the error:
Exception Details:
System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: No error message available, result code: DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED(0x80040E21).
Help Please I got some problem while trying to deploy package to server.
Cannot save the package ".....product.dtsx" to SQL server "......" TO save the SQLServer method has encounter OleDB error code 0x80040E21 (Invalid Character Value for cast specification). The SQL statement that was issued has failed.
howdy, i have a sqlserver2005 ssis package which connects to a mysql webserver to upload data. i am connecting via mysql oledb connection and am able to test connect ok through the oledb connection manager. However in my ole db destination editor i get an 0x80040E21 error when trying to preview a table . The full error is :
Error at Data Flow Task [Destination - Query [70]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
Error at Data Flow Task [Destination - Query [70]]: Opening a rowset for "INFORMATION_SCHEMA.address_book" failed. Check that the object exists in the database. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Exception from HRESULT: 0xC02020E8 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)
I can see all the tables in the drop down box in connection manager. This has been driving me nuts for the last 3 days! I have tried changing some of the security connection settings to no avail, (although i am not sure on what these do).I have also tried setting up as an odbc connection using script components but had memory errors after copying several hundred records and the package just hangs. I can go into this in more detail however i dont think they are related issues and i would prefer oledb as i dont have to script my data transfer.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: The PrimeOutput method on component "Excel Source" (351) returned error code 0x80040E21. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.
Here is my request: Print out the row number and the contents of the offending field when an error like this occurs.
Wish list item:Have One Switch that tells SSIS to keep going and skip bad row. Now I have to tell it twice for every field and it still stops!
Enough already. Why let one bad record stop 65,000?
I have an SDF using SQLCE 2.0. When I run the app on a Pocket PC device running Windows Mobile 5.0 I get 0x80004005 and 0x80040e21 errors. The same app executes fine on PPC 2003.
The app is written in VC++ using and uses the SQLCE OLEDB Provider to access the SDF. It is complied with eVC 4.0
Hi I am using Oledb Provider for Db2 from IBM. (There is another one from microsoft) Through this provider I am constructing a oledb connection manager.
This connection manager I am Using in Oledb Source adapter. Now when I set Data Access mode as Table or view I Am able to preview the data.
But when I use Data Access Mode as SQL Command try to preview I get this Error

A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
I am using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition along with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
Now here's what I did:
Rather than use the Database Explorer within VB2005 EE to create my database, I thought I would try creating my database externally using the downloadable "SQL Server Management Studio Express" tool. (I figured that if I had a stable data model for my database, I could side-step the copying/overwriting issues that come with creating a database as part of a VB solution.)
So having gotten my database setup and populated with some sample data, I am now trying to connect to it from Visual Basic. In VB (in the context of working on a VB Solution), I do the following:
Select Add New Data Source... from the Data menu to bring up the Data Source Configuration Wizard. Choose "Database" for the data source type and click Next. Click "New Connection..." to bring up the Add Connection dialogue.
For data source I choose "Microsoft SQL Server Database File", with ".NET Framework Data Provider..." as the data provider. Navigate to my existing database file (in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData" folder). Use Windows Authentication.
When I click "Test Connection" or just click "OK", i get the Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition error shown at the top of this message.
Is this occuring because I'm trying to access my database as an .MDF file rather than through Named Pipes / Shared Memory / TCP/IP? If this is the case, is there any way that I can tell VB2005 EE to use Named Pipes / Shared Memory / TCP/IP? Is this a fundamental limitation of VB2005 EE?
Thanks in advance to the guru who is able to explain this to me...
The install of SQL Express with advanced services on my WinXP Pro PC seemed to go fine but now I look at it and see that the actual SQL server hasn't installed. The log files says:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Log File: ...SQLSetup0003_HKM1_SQL.log Last Action: Install Finalise Error String: Failed to set registry settings for server network libraries. The action is SetShilohRoot. The error is 5 (Acces is denied)
Also getting the same error for product: SQL Server Database Services.
After installing SQL Server express to my WinXP machine, when I attempt to restore a database from a 2000 backup, I get the following error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The operating system returned the error '5(Access is denied.)' while attempting 'RestoreContainer::ValidateTargetForCreation' on 'c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLTEST.MDF'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)
I have been for years using the following code locally in native ASP (except different UID and PWD and file path for the msado15.dll) with SQL Server 2000 on XP to do my development and then I upload to the web site later (uses different objConn etc when live). I've now tried to use the same for SQL Server Express and Vista and always get the "does not exist or access denied" error ( 2147467259).
I only want to use SQL Server locally from the machine I'm developing on as I upload the tested "ASP" code to the server which runs it. The SQL Server Browser is running and I have checked the Firewall exclusions for sqlservr.exe. Also I installed it with out Windows Logon (same as I had for SQL Server 2000).
Any ideas, I tried using the Data Source=localhost instead of explicitly defing the path except that had no affect either, I also changed the rshstest_data.mbf to rshstest.mbf as well also to no affect as there appears a difference with this in 2000 and Express?
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks..

I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 express with SP2 on Vista Business - as a requirement for a new software package. The installation fails at the point of installing performance counters - the errors are below. I have been unable to find any support entry for this error: I am using the local administrator account - I am a home user and not part of a domain. I have also tried with UAC disabled.

I'v finally managed to get a New Linked Server setup on SQL 2005 Express SP2 using the 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers' MSDASQL. I have a Database setup on the SQL 2005 Express Database Engine which contains a query that OPENQUERY's the linked server. The query executes OK.
The problems in when I link an Access 2003 SP2 .adp file to the SQL 2005 Database Engine database. All objects, including the query containing the OPENQUERY (to the linked server) appear. However, when I run the same query within Access I get the following error:
"The OLE DB Provider for Linked Server "name" reported an error." "The Provider reported an unexpected catastropic failure"
So the query works running within SQL 2005 Management Studio, but the same query doesn't work running within an Access 2003 SP2 ADP. I've closed down SQL 2005 Management Studio, but the same error is displayed.
I didn't know if the problem lies in Access 2003 SP2 or SQL 2005 Express SP2.
Any takers?? (I haven't logged this Thread in an Access forum)
I cannot get SQL Server 2005 Express installed on a 2003 Small Business Server. I am logged in as an admin.
The error:

I have uninstalled all instances of SQL Server. Rebooted server and tried again, but get same error.
could you please what is rwong in the sql.s syntax:
------Access SP:----------
PARAMETERS [@Date_M_Y] DateTime, [@BIZID] Long; SELECT SUM(MINUTE(Time_)) AS MM, SUM(HOUR(Time_)) AS HH, COUNT(Date_) AS SHIFTS, SUM(Money_Sum) AS MONEY_TOTAL, AVG(Money_Sum) AS AVG_MONEY_PER_SHIFT FROM TblTimeSum WHERE MONTH(Date_)=MONTH([@Date_M_Y]) And YEAR(Date_)=YEAR([@Date_M_Y]) And BIZID=[@BIZID];
----- SQL.S----

My client has a rather large database with some very large reports. Some of the reports have around 20 sub-reports a piece. We have decided to move the client's application to a .NET web application and would migrate them to SQL Server 2000.
The only problem is now, designing the reports. I have tried doing what Microsoft says (converting to stored procedures and views) but I keep getting syntax errors on the SQL side of things when I cut and paste.
For example, the following code is taken from Access :
SELECT tblProjects.fldCountry, tblProjects.fldDescription, tblOrganizations.fldAcronym, tblProjects.fldProjID, Max(tblProjYears.fldStartDate) AS MaxOffldStartDate, Max(tblProjYears.fldEndDate) AS MaxOffldEndDate, qryProjLocsWithFEData.fldProjPeriodID FROM (tblProjects INNER JOIN tblOrganizations ON tblProjects.fldOrgID = tblOrganizations.fldOrgID) INNER JOIN (tblProjYears INNER JOIN qryProjLocsWithFEData ON tblProjYears.fldProjPeriodID = qryProjLocsWithFEData.fldProjPeriodID) ON tblProjects.fldProjID = tblProjYears.fldProjID GROUP BY tblProjects.fldCountry, tblProjects.fldDescription, tblOrganizations.fldAcronym, tblProjects.fldProjID, qryProjLocsWithFEData.fldProjPeriodID ORDER BY tblProjects.fldCountry, tblOrganizations.fldAcronym, tblProjects.fldProjID;
But when I try that in SQL Query Analyzer i get the error : The text, ntext, and image data types cannot be compared or sorted, except when using IS NULL or LIKE operator.
I'm pretty sure it's on the tblProjects.fldDescription Group By, but if I leave it out, it still throws an error. Anybody have any ideas?
I'm attempting to move data from an Oracle table to an Access table using an Oracle stored procedure in DTS. The problem is that you can't pass parameters to an Oracle stored proc when its called in a data pump task. Is there a way to pass global variables into an Oracle stored procedure which retrieves data and moves it to an Access database? Maybe in an Active X task? We are required to use an Oracle stored procedure by our DBA's or else I'd just pass the variables into a SQL string and use it in the data pump task.
Hi All, I hope I am at the right place to post this question: How can I move the tables with its data from Access to SQL Server 7.0 using SQL queries. Later I might put everything in the store procedure and have a third party running the store-procedure to do it by itself. Please advice what should I do first? Do I create new tables in the s SQL Server 7 or can I move the data and create the tables at the same time?..Thank you.
Hi! I have created i webpage whos has a logged in system which is cretead in VS 2005 with the function ASP.NET configuration. And know will i move all databas to i a MSSQL 2000 there i only can have one databas, And know i have ASP.NET logged in Databas and one site databas. I just wondering if its possible to make i virtual connection with MSSQL 2000? If not somebody has some idés for me?
Hello, Thanks for reviewing my question. I would like to know how do you bring a database from SQL Express into a SQL 2005 server? I didn't find a way to import the SQLExpress (.mdf) file. Many Thanks Peter
I have a 3 workstation peer to peer network with everything running Windows XP Pro. I need to replace the machine that hosts my SQL MSDE server. I have built a new system and all software is installed except the MSDE. I use a proprietary product called Time Matters for my law practice that uses the SQL server. Since I might want to run Vista eventually (not right now) I thought that I would try to migrate the MSDE to SQL Express. I assume that Time Matters will run on SQL Express. Can someone please give me some help on how to proceed. I'm thinking that I will install the SQL Express server on the new machine and then somehow migrate the database over to the new machine and shut down the old unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi. I need to move database schema (tables definiton with relations without data) form SQL Express to SQL 2005. Is there any easy way to do it? I'll be grateful for your help. Pawel
im using the the login controls with asp.net when i test locally everything works great, its see the ASPNETDB.MDF file, checks the login info and passes the user on to the next page.However when i move the application to the live server it fails, it cant find the datasource that contains users/password etc. here is there error:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) So im missing something here, im used to connecting directly to a remote SQL database and accessing the info from there. Can someone point me in the right direction? Can the MDF file not be used off the server itself without SQL express installed? Do i need to migrate those tables into a real SQL database?Thanks,Sean
Our current environment is: SQL Server 2000 backend; XP/Windows 2000 clients with MSDE loaded; a Microsoft Access 2002 app using DSN to connect to the local MSDE database; Merge replication which is a job within the MSDE engine that we execute in VBA code using the following DMO code:
' Find the Job name to execute
lngJobCount = oServer.JobServer.Jobs.Count
lngJobIndex = 1
blFoundJob = False
While lngJobIndex <= lngJobCount And blFoundJob = False
If InStr(1, strJobName, "LEXData", vbTextCompare) > 0 Then
If InStr(1, strJobName, strServerName, vbTextCompare) Then
blFoundJob = True
End If
End If
lngJobIndex = lngJobIndex + 1
Wend
' Execute the job
If blFoundJib Then
Set oServer1 = New SQLDMO.SQLServer
With oServer1
.LoginSecure = True
.Connect strServerName
End With
Set oJob = oServer1.JobServer.Jobs(strJobName)
End If
We are now planning a move to a SQL Server 2005 backend and Express edition on the clients and the app would remain as Access 2002. Any pointers to documents that will be useful would be appreciated but I have a couple of specific questions as well.
1) As I understand it we can load Express side by side with MSDE so we will probably go down that path and load the data from MSDE into an Express version of the database. Once that's done we will create a DSN pointing to the new database and name it the same as the DSN which is currently used for the MSDE database. If we do this will our Access app simply work as before (ignoring replication)?
2) When we have our app happily running against a DSN that points to an Express database would we expect our existing DMO code (as above) to work, e.g. find a particular job in a list jobs and executes it? I can see that the replication job itself may have to be rejigged for Server 2005.
I am looping a set of .txt files in a folder using foreach.
Inside foreach, I have a Dataflow task that does the transformation. After that i have added a File System that moves file to archive.
However, If the user puts any other file instead of a .txt file, i want to move the file to Error folder and this should be before the DataFlow starts within foreach.
How can i do this? I want to use script to read the file extension and then move it to the error.
My process checks values in certain files in a "Source" folder against a table in a database. If these values do not match, those files are moved to a "Fail" folder and if they are validated then they are moved to a "Success" folder. My issue is caused by the fact that these files (which are notepad text files) are not being moved over to the success folder for the following error:
"The process cannot access the file '\Server1c$Source239598.TXT' because it is being used by another process."
I have checked whether these files were actually being used by another process but even cutting off users from the directory and even copied a test file into the folder, the issue will still pop up and for random files.
I've tried using two different components to do the same thing as the "Move" component --- "Copy files from source to destination" and then a separate component "Delete file from Source folder" which is essentially a move. The issue persists on the Delete process because it sees that the file is still being used by some other "imaginary" process it seems to me.
I've tried upping the MaxErrorCount on the Delete and even using the Move components to try to ignore this issue but the package still fails. Are there any other ways to get around this problem?
I am using a foreach file to loop through a folder and pick a file. Then populate a Sql table.
Now I want to check if the file is a mdb and then check if the mdb contains a table called "Schools". If any of these conditions fails, the file should be moved to the Error folder. If conditions pass, populate the Sql tables.
How do I do this? Please specify the components to use.
Inside that dataflow, I was transfering data from a flat file to SQL Server. Now, When error occurs, I want to move that particular file to another location and proceed with the next file. I can't use file system task inside data flow . How can i achieve this ? Is there any other way other than Script-Task (Here script task will be complex thing as of my understanding).
Hi! I'm preparing movement of system database (SS2005) on my own test machine. But already here got a problem. I follow the instructions given in ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/MS.SQLSVR.v9.en/udb9/html/72bb62ee-9602-4f71-be51-c466c1670878.htm
I moved 4 files (master and mssqlsystemresource), but got: C:Documents and Settingsdj>NET START MSSQLSERVER /f /T3608 The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service is starting.. The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service could not be started. A service specific error occurred: 17058. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3547.
hi all, is there any query to move certain data from a sql data to access table through query. i am having a requirement where i have to fetch the records from a sql table that falls within a specified range to a ms access table. is this possible through a query.
