Hi,
trying to develop a report that shows the sum total for each month during a specified date range.
I have parameters asking for the start date and end date of the date range, the report needs to show the months in between this date range.
One of the fields in the dataset is durationminutes which I need to sum for each month then divide by 60 to show hours. I then need to show the total of each month in a bar graph (with each month along the x axis).
If anyone can shed some light on how I am going to do this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

how to return the 3 month rolling average count per username? This means, that if jan = 4, feb = 5, mar = 5, then 3 month rolling average will be 7 in April. And if apr = 6, the May rolling average will be 8.
Columns are four:
username, current_tenure, move_in_date, and count.
DDL (create script generated by SSMS from sample table I created, which is why the move_in_date is in hex form. When run it's converted to date. Total size of table 22 rows, 4 columns.)

Please refer to this table in this discussion:

9/1/07

10/1/07
11
11/1/07

What i'm trying to do is return a result with total charges from 3 months previous based on a date parameter or just as a whole for that matter. For example:
If my date parameter is 6/14/07, i'd like my total charges to be 15 (6+5+4).
If my date parameter is 7/10/07, the charges would be 18 (7+6+5)
I hope that makes sense of where i'm going with this. I've played with this using the "Guru's Guide" solution by Ken Henderson, but still to no avail yet. Here's his code syntax:
Code Block
SELECT a.DayCount, a.Sales, SUM(b.Sales)
FROM Sales a CROSS JOIN Sales b
WHERE (b.DayCount <= a.DayCount) AS RunningTotal
GROUP BY a.DayCount,a.Sales
ORDER BY a.DayCount,a.Sales
Here is the result set i'm looking for:
Charges
Date
1
1/1/07
2
2/1/07
6
3/1/07
9
4/1/07
12
5/1/07
15
6/1/07
18
7/1/07
21
8/1/07
24
9/1/07
27
10/1/07
30
11/1/07
33
12/1/07
Each date's charges are a culmination of 3 months worth of charges.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll be trying to figure this one out concurrently and if i do, i'll post back!
Thanks in advance!

I have create a simple tabular rolling forecast report (with cumulative totals) from today (October) thru the next 12 months that looks like this. It smartly works no matter when the report is generated, by starting with this CurrentMonth and moving forward by using 1,2,3,4,etc. in the dateadd: =MonthName(datepart("m",dateadd("m",1,Now())))
The report sample (formatting lost in dropping it in here):

Cumulative Total
$1,345,580
$1,455,580
$2,635,780
$2,635,780
$2,635,780
It is working fine....there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it (all numbers total correctly, etc.), but it is very unelegant.....and I know there must be a better way.
In the righthand most month (which would be September 2008) column, I have a formula that produces the amount (the Monthly Total amount is the same):
Code Block=sum(iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",11,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0)))
and for the Cumulative Total Amount it gets really hideous, as it is trying to add up all of the totals across the board:
Code Block
=sum(iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",0,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",1,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",2,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",3,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",4,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",5,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",6,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",7,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",8,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",9,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",10,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0))+iif(datepart("m",dateadd("m",11,Now()))=datepart("m",Fields!EstimatedCloseDate.Value),Cdec(Fields!estimatedvalue.Value*Fields!ClosePct.Value*.01),cdec(0)))
I have searched high and low for examples of reports that do something similar.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks.

Hello what I'd like to display the following in a matrix report:
Parameter selected: 3 (March), 2008 (Year)
Monthly TO Summed up
ArtNo March <=March
1210 20,500 50,900
1220 21,200 64,000
1230 15,400 40,300
... ... ...
So, in the rows I have the articles and in the column the selected month via parameter. In another column I need to sum up all monthly values up to the selected month, meaning in this example the sum of jan, feb and mar per article.

Ok i dont know how to ask this question but here it goes.
I am pulling monthly data for suppliers showing ontime, early and late deliveries
let say month of Jan. they had
supplier month stat qty
A Jan early 5
A Jan late 1
A Jan ontime 20
A feb late 50
A feb ontime 5
I need to retrieve the data but as you can see since feb did not have any early I am missing the data
how can I create a line
A feb early 0
but remember that i have multiple customers and multiple months.
All I can think of is saveing the base data then run a cursor to inser the lines as needed

Hi,
Writing a report that displays total hours, etc for each day in a given month and I'm having trouble comking up w/ an elegant solution. Tables are set up like this:
table1 (id, start_date,end_date,submitter)
table2( id,table1_id,start_time,end_time, etc)
Each record in table2 is a child to a parent record in table1 and there may be multiple children for each parent. The "start_time" and "end_time" fields are datatype "datetime" and are stored with actual times (not 12:00:00 AM"). I need the report to display the values for each day in a gridview, etc so I can act upon them from the "RowDataBound" sub (more math, etc). The problem that I am running into is that for records that have multiple children for a given day, I need to sum those results and display the summed data as a single row within the GV - can't seem to work that out - I keep getting every child record displaying as its own row in the GV.
Any thoughts? I'm sure it's probably fairly simple but I am still a beginner...thanks as always

I posted this question last night and thought I had an answer. I have a date field. I want to be able to filter records by the month of the date. To do this, I pass the integer of the month. But I also want to be able to return all the records if no month integer is passed. So functionally, select * from table where (MONTH([AD ENDS]) = @month)will return all records where [Ad Ends] is in January if @month = 1 and all records if @month is empty. The solution I got last night was to use select * from table where (MONTH([AD ENDS]) = ISNULL(@month, MONTH([AD ENDS]))) If @month is null, all records are returned. I was focused on another aspect of the page when this was posted. It worked in the designer, so I thought I was set. This morning I realized I don't know how to pass a null variable in a querystring. Since a querystring is a string, it probably can't be done. Another suggestions was to change this programmatically. But is there a way to do this in the dataset? I'm using SQL Server 2005, a strongly typed dataset and the designer.Diane The answer i got last night was to

I have a series of daily data and I am looking to filter for month end business days and create a sum.
This piece of code gets what I need, arbitrarily, for the 7th day of every month. How can I amend the code so that rather than 7, I have the last business day of every month?
select FROM_DATE, PORTFOLIO, SUM(VALUES) from MyTable
where DATEPART(day,FROM_DATE) = 7
group by FROM_DATE, PORTFOLIO
I have the following code for last business day of month (from a previous question raised on these forums), but when I set DATEPART(day,FROM_DATE) equal to the following piece of code, I get no results.
CASE DATEDIFF(dd,0,DATEADD(mm,DATEDIFF(mm, 0, FROM_DATE),-1))%7
WHEN 5 THEN DATEADD(dd, -1, DATEADD(mm,DATEDIFF(mm, 0, FROM_DATE),-1)) -- if Saturday subtract one day
WHEN 6 THEN DATEADD(dd, -2, DATEADD(mm,DATEDIFF(mm, 0, FROM_DATE),-1)) -- if Sunday subtract two days
ELSE DATEADD(mm,DATEDIFF(mm, 0, FROM_DATE),-1)

I am in seach of a query where in I can provide month, year and client name and fetch last available comments from the table.
Client,Month,Year and Comments are columns in that table.
For Ex: If i pass client as A, month as 7 and year as 2015, I should get comments for client A, month July and year 2015 if available.
If data not available, it must go to June month and so on until it finds comments. Also when month is Jan, if query is going back, year also should get changed.

Hi all!
I have a problem.. I have a report, with subreports, which does the job it was supposed to do. Unfortunately, subreports does not export to Excel very well, so I have to come up with a solution without the use of subreports.
The scenario (keeping it simple)
I have a list of departments. Each department can have multiple costs attached to it. The cost happens on a specific date. Fairly straightforward and simplified
I want to view each departments costs, sorted by month, like this:
Jan - Feb - March - April....
Dep SUM COST
Dep FOR EACH MONTH
Dep
Dep
...
...
I did this in the old report by passing the department ID and the date interval as parameters to a subreport and have the subreport return the sum of all the fields, which worked fine.
Now that the subreports can no longer be used, I'm struggling on how to sort my output on that date interval. I can group my result pr. department, but how to filter the result so that I get the right numbers in the right month... no luck yet.
As far as I know; I can't use different datasets in one table? I could have made a different dataset for each month...
Anyone know of a way to design this? I'm sure the problem isn't unique.
Does one have to aggregate the sums inside the SQL query instead?
Thanks for any replies!
Regards,
Mats

select ssn, acctno From jnj.drgSamples where Channel ='KM' and TrailMonth ='2013-06'
select ssn, acctno From jnj.drgSamples where Channel ='KM' and TrailMonth ='2014-06'
i have written the below query but it shows only matched across three queries, but i want to display / delete from 2014-06 records if the ssn and acctno is exist in 2012-06 and 2013-06
select c.* from (
(select * From jnj.drgSamples where Channel ='KM' and TrailMonth ='2012-06' ) a join
(select * From jnj.drgSamples where Channel ='KM' and TrailMonth ='2013-06' ) b on a.SSN = b.SSN and a.acctno = b.acctno join
(select * From jnj.drgSamples where Channel ='KM' and TrailMonth ='2014-06' ) C on a.SSN = c.SSN and a.acctno = c.acctno join

I need to build a report that compares a count on a certain day of the week by month by year by stacks. That is,for first Monday in October 2012 against first Monday in October 2013 for stack DM1 against first Monday in October 2014 stack DM1, same for second Monday, first Tuesday, second Tuesday, ect. Attached is a sample dataset and what I want to achieve.
