2 Questions (SQL 2000 To 2005 Database Conversion)
Aug 8, 2006
I have a db in SQL server 2000 developer edition. I am using Visual Studio 2005 standard, and also VWD Express. I would like to just access the database that is in SQL server 2000 so I can get on with developing the site, but VS2005 refuses to recognize the instance. It recognizes 2005 instances right away.
The services are all running, the network protocols are enabled, uid's/pw all of that is correct. I am getting the "named pipes" error (the named pipes protocol is enabled).
Any suggestions? I'd really rather just work with the db as-is in SQL 2000. But I can't get it to connect. I can connect to it if I export it to SQL 2005, (on the same development machine) but can't get the stored procs over to the 2005 db. So my web app is not finding the stored procs and won't run.
Do I need to uninstall SQL 2005 from this box if I want to use SQL 2000?
hello friends, i am facing a problem in SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The database created in the SQL Server 2005 Express is when opened in SQL Server 2000, it changes the data type of all the columns of all the table to text type. can anybody help me?
I have restored a SQL 2000 DB in a SQL 2005 server. The views which were converting a varchar to string was working fine in 2000 and in 2005 the views are giving a "error converting varchar to datetime" error.
Any ideas to rectify this issue?

Hello, I'm running an MS SQL 2005 database which supports our entire website and it's fairly huge. I seem to have lost the sa password for the database.
I COULD get it back if there was a way to convert the SQL 2005 DB to an SQL 2000 DB, seeing as how I found a password cracker for that version. Is there anyway to convert a 2005 DB back to a 2000 DB?
Does anyone have any other ideas they might want to lay on me?
I'm kind of sick about this... I'm usually a really good note-taker; In fact, I do have the sa password recorded in an IT database that I keep. Unfortunately the password just doesn't work. I've tried the caps lock and other variations, but the password just eludes me.
I recently needed to upgrade a sql 2000 machine to 2005. Instead ofupgrading the sql 2000 default instance, I installed sql 2005 as aseparate named instance so we could go back to sql 2000 if necessary. The web server that connected to the new server didn't have anythingchange on it except the database ip was changed tomachinenameinstancename instead of just machinename. SQLauthentication was being used and the exact same userid/password wascreated on sql 2005. I logged into the database server using the sameuserid/pass to confirm it worked. However, when using the app, it reported "Login failure for: username"error and I confirmed 600 times over the next two hours that it was infact correctly typed in. The "State" in the sql server log indicated apassword mismatch, but again, it was correct and I verified it workedusing the sql 2005 management studio from the web server itself. Finally I had the bright idea of making the password blank, figuring itwas getting mangled somewhere in the process...That worked. So my question is, what is going on and how can I set anormal password? There is no encryption of the connection string andnothing changed in the web app between converting the machine from 2000(worked fine) to 2005 (password mismatch).

I have a SQL Server 2005 database (called BDHSE) in a PC which i call PC1. I have a second PC (PC2) and both are within a network (a WLAN).
What i want is to have access to BDHSE from an application in VB6 (APP1) running in PC2. All the INSERT, DELETE, UPDATE records process is done through APP1.
APP1 ia currently running in PC1 and is to be installed on PC2.
I have these questions:
1. What do i need to install in PC2 since all the INSERT, DELETE, and UPDATE is done using APP1? I guess i only have to install the Microsoft SQL Native Client (with all the prerequisites of course) but i am not sure.
2. In the APP1 made in VB6, do i have to change the connectionstring since i am accesing the database which physically is at PC1 and the APP1 will be used in PC2?
3. Any advice you can give me on doing this will be well received.
I am working on a project that was written in Visual Studio 2003 using asp.net and C#. The project accesses a SQL Server 2000 database. I need to test the application. What I want to do is to copy the database over to a test server. The problem is that the test server only has SQL Server 2005 on it. Would it be a problem if I backed up the database using SQL Server 2000 and then recreated it on the server as a SQL server 2005 project? Would my source code accept the new database even though it would now be in sql server 2005?
What is the default collation SQL 2000 Server takes during installation on Windows 2000? Can it be chosen during installtion of SQL 2000 or does it depend on my regional options and according them the SQL 2000 server default collation will be selected?
Why can it happen that the user datebases have collation Latin1_General_CI_AS and the tempdb has collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS? I ran into problems as temporary data had to be compared residing in temp db's on tempdb and the result was a collation conflict!
In the BOL it says: "When you install an instance of SQL Server, you can specify the default collation for that instance during setup" but I had no window or dialog during installation of SQL2000 Personal Edition where I could select the collation. How can I change default collation of SQL 2000 Server?
I have used backup and restore method to upgrage 2000 databases to 2005 database. What do i need to do in order to for my application or users to use databse in 2005 and remove 2000
i have sql 2005 installed on my personal machine, but our server has sql 2000 on it. the structure of my database was made on the server, but i'm not sure how to update the server copy from my local copy. when i try to export my data from my local machine to the server (or import from my local machine to the server), i get pre-execute errors.
roughly every other week, i'll need to be able to update the server version from my local version, so i'm trying to find the most efficient method. what is the best way to update a 2000 database from a 2005 database? it doesn't matter if i append or overwrite, but i do use identity fields. the error i get when trying to use the import/export wizard is:
- Pre-execute (Error)

Hello gurus:Hopefully someone can shed some light on some questions I have. I amtasked to build an application that will schedule and track tasks. Ifirmly believe in not reinventing the wheel however also feel thatcustomizing is certainly not out of the question.I am looking to build something in ASP (or .NET) that can allow anindividual to work "disconnected" from the network while stillaccessing a database (MSDE?) that will sync with SQL 2000 oncere-connected. I have built multiple db apps that are strictly webbased and consider myself somewhat knowledgeable (read.. dangereous)SQL/ASP dude. I understand that for a stand-alone client app I mayhave to use .NET and load the framewsork on the client in order to runthe dynamic pages for database updates. Here are my questions:1) Is there a way for SQL server to "replicate" its tables into aschema/data recognized by MSDE (i.e. generate the "mother ship" tablesand schema first, then use SQL Server to automatically create (export)the client MSDE tables)2) are there tools to manage MSDE so one can see what the heck is inthere? I understand Enterprise manager will not work in this regard.3) Are there any resources (documents, tutorials etc..) for datareplication (i.e. dbsync from MSDE up to MSSQL and vice-versa)4) Am I wasting my time doing this from scratch because there isalready something out there that does all this that is moderatelypriced and customizable? Thanks for your attention and consideration.Eric B
Well I have some queries as a newbie to SRSS 2000 reports deployment.
1) I have to build a VB .NET application with a web interface to display reports in that program. Is it possible? Is there any example codeing floating around which I can take a look? Or how to do it?
2) I have to pass the parameters for the report via a VB text box into the report and the report should be displayed. So the parameter bar in the report as it comes in IE7 should not come. How can I do that?
Or in simpler terms
- How to turn the SQL 2000 reporting features off to allow a simpler report display - How to display the report in a Microsoft Windows Form application.
I have a SQL 2000 database on one server that I'm trying to transfer to a new server. The new server has Small Business Server R2 Premium Edition, which includes SQL 2005. I tried to transfer the database in the normal way that I'd create a copy database, which was: -1. Backup the source database2. Create a new database (empty) in the new server3. Restore to this database from the backup taken in #1. Of course on previous occasions I wasn't changing version, but I expected that this would either fail immediately (message "incorrect version" or some such), or else work. At first this appeared to transfer OK. It took about 20 minutes to create the backup (just over 5GB), and about the same time to restore it. The restore terminated with a message "Database has been restored successfully"). However, the database's icon in Management Studio's Object explorer showed a little up arrow, and alongside the database name "(restoring ....)". Clicking on the database icon did not expand it. 3 hours later it still was like this. Examining the server showed zero activity. I expect that it's failed, and I should delete the new "(restoring...)" database and start again. How should I create this SQL 2005 database?
i work on sql server 2005 at home and have created a database with several tables and dabase diagram , now how do i transfer it to sql server 2000 which i work on at work , can somebody point me in the right direction in which this is done any hlp appreciated
My customer has SQL Server 2005. I have SQL Server 2000 on my laptop (on XP Pro). I believe I have an empty database the same as theirs, but I need to restore their data. They sent me a normal SQL Backup, but my laptop threw a fit and cannot work with it.
They are now trying to export the database to Microsoft Access and send me that, but I won't get that until next week now. However is there a better and easier solution for those of us with insufficient experience of this, please?
Dear All, at present all our servers are running with sql server 2000. we are planned to upgrade to sql server 2005 standard edition. what is the approach i need to follow? can i directly go for installation of sql server 2005, and then use copy database wizard? this is a production environment, and we even not give 5 min of downtime. please help me in this regard

Hi, I have a database on a SQL Server 2000, and would like to migrate it to a new server machine that has SQL Server 2005. has anyone already tried this, and can you please provide the steps to follow.
I need to copy database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 server. I was using the Copy wizard from SQL 2000 Server, I could enter the source server and server where to copy SQL 2005 but when I wanted to select the database to copy, nothing happened. Like I was kicked out, no errors etc.
Any one with idea or information, please let me know ASAP
