created an Oracle datasource (tried both ole db & oracle client) in Visual Studio 2005 report project - works fine connecting and preview of report within ide , deployed to Reporting Services web server, received the following error when attempting to run the report on web server:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'oracle'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.
web server has oracle client 9i client installed and connecting to db ok through sql plus (this server also is loaded with VS2005 and the SqlServer2005 db)
I am new to SQL Reporting services and learning from website tutorials. I could easily connect to Adventure Works database and could create some reports. Now I want to create one report from Oracle database in my network on one of my server (Network computer). I could not connect to database as do not know what to write (is path like Server name or IP address 152.168.1.25 Oracle database name) is required in Server name field? Server Type should be OLE DB or Oracle and OLEDB Provider should be Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle? Then Server of filename? Is there any tutorial or material available, which can help me in establishing this connectivity? Any help is greatly appreciated.Do I have to install any thing on my local computer for oracle ( as read in one of forum for Oracle Client or something like that)

I'm just starting to use SQL Server 2005 Reporting services, and need to use an XMLdocument as the datasource. I will get the xml data from a webservice and then need to bind it to the report. Here is what I am doing:
1. I created a webservice at the following location: http://localhost/myWebDirectory/myService.asmx. this webservice has a method called "GetXMLDocument" that has 1 parameter (sql). This method uses the sql statement to fill a dataset from a SQL Server database, converts it to an xmlDocument, and returns the xmlDocument. Here is a sample of the results:

I cannot figure out why I have this error. The service runs fine from the browser, but I just can't get it to work in Reporting Services. What am I doing wrong?

We have recently migrated from SQL 2000 (32bit) to SQL 2005 on Win2003 (both are 64bit). And we have Legacy DTS packages on SQL 2005, some packages are pulling records from Oracle 10g (32bit server). When I execute the DTS package I am getting following error.

I've never used SQL Server before. I installed VB 2005 Express (I've been working with VB since I was 16), and SQL Server 2005 Express.
I installed the server with all the default settings and created a small database to handle customer information (a remake of some Access and Oracle databases I've made before).
I'm told, however, each time I try to connect to the database via VB, that SQL Server isn't accepting remote connections...

Hi, I'm new to SSRS but have a problem connecting to Oracle. I have placed my reports upon a reporting server but the shared data connection isn't working and I'm confused as to why. I have specified the name, connection type as "Oracle", set the correct user id and password for the credentials and the connection string as for example 'Data Source=oracleExample;Unicode="True"'. I'm mystified as to what the issue is. Any ideas? Would restarting the report server pick up the tnsnames.ora file? I have this working locally using report designer. Any help, much appreciated.
I work in an environment where everyone is there own server. I can connect to a collegeau's SQL Server by using the Windows Authentication method in the Database Engine but if I try to connect to the Reporting Services Engine it says that I am not allowed to connect due to permission violations. How do I get adequate permissions to do so? I have all of the components for Reporting Services installed and I am actively using it. I want to be able to test the functionality of the RSScriptor before deploying it out to others.

I have designed a DTS package which will migrate a view from Sqlserver 2000 to Oracle.My package is using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle driver for connecting to oracle.Im able to execute this package on the my system ie on the system where sqlclient is installed(Oracle client is also installed on my machine) .But when im doing it on the server im not able to do it.The Connection to Oracle Fails. I wanted to know in order to connect to Oracle from the server,is it necessary that Oracle has to be installed on the server?.If yes, is it enough if i install oracle client on the server or Oracle Server version has to be installed on Server.
Everything I have read says that this is possible in Oracle 9 and greater versions, but I can't get it to work...
Here is my query:

This works fine in the data tab until I replace the values with a parameter. I get the pop-up to enter the parameter values but no matter how I enter them, I don't get any rows returned. I've tried entering them as '111','222' and as 111,222 and changing the parameter type from a string to an int, but nothing seems to work.
I am running this on SQL Server RS 2005 and my Oracle driver (Oracle in OraHome92) is version 9.02.

The username and password I have also. I tried to enter in the Xtx20xxx as the server name, clicked "Properties"
put in the username and password I can given and clicked "Test Connection". No matter what I get the infamous ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name error message. I am sure I am missing something obvious here but I have absolutely no clue and all the googling in the world has not given me any help. I do have the Oracle 10g client tools installed on this workstation (running Windows XP Prof SP2 and SQL 2005 STD).

Somewhere I have read that SQL server does not support Hierarchical Sql statements. Is this true ? How am I going to do that ?
I have been reading some topics on "slow Oracle connections", but I have not found an answer for my question yet.
The problem is that I am extracting data from a Oracle database to Raw files (to import into our DWH later on). For one table this takes more that 1 hour! I find this to be very slow, but maybe I am expecting too much speed?
Can anyone tell me how long it should take to download 10 million rows from Oracle to Raw file (no transformations)?
Some extra information: - The table has 10 million rows and a little over 200 columns - The datatypes in the Oracle database are varchar, number and date - I tried to tune the buffer size in the data flow and found that I could fit about 1900 rows in a DefaultBuffersize of 100 MB - I use the "Native OLE DBMicrosoft OLE OB Provider for Oracle" (Provider=MSDAORA.1)
Can I do anything to get a better performance or is 1 hour for a table like this the best performance we can get?
(Changing the Oracle database is unfortunately not an option...)
I have to develop a package to get some data from a 10g Oracle database and load it to a SQL Server 2005 database.
In my design I used Oracle Provider for OledDB as my source provider following Microsoft recommendations found here : http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332055.aspx
As I have to use a parametrized query against my Oracle database I create a variable with my query that I override at runtime with a script task to update the parameters values.
One of the return column is of numeric datatype.
To handle this known issue with Oracle sources I edited through the advanced editor my Oledb source component to manually correct the precision.
Everything works fine with one of my package.
So I repeat the whole process while designing an other one with the same purposes.
As for the previous one I first unit test every components and everything works. But when running the full package it raised an error code 0x80004005 Error while validating post executing phase of the component (sorry for the poor translation from french to english ...)
I open my dataflow where the component is and found no warnings or errors. I edited through the advanced editor my Oledb source component and found that there's an error on the precision scale of the numeric return column. The message warn me that the precision must be between 1 and 38. I checked this column and in the "OLE DB Source output / External Columns" the precision is 0 though I previously manually corrected it. I upadted again for a 18 precision as it is for this column in "OLE DB Source output / Output Columns". But it never keeps my changes ......
I delete the component and recreate it to force the metadata to be updated but always the same thing, the precision scale for this column in the "OLE DB Source output / External Columns" never keeps my 18 value.
I've tried everything. The CreateUserWizard works fine, but then, I didn't have to connect anything for that. I've tried both SQLServer and MySQL. Connection Strings are correct, everything is correct as far as I can see. I've followed every step many many times. I'm about to go back to the old style and use VB6, because this is just stupid. The error I get is "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)" If anyone could help me out with this I'd really appreciate it.

We are in the process of configuring a j2ee application with SQL Server 2005. We have downloaded the new version of SQL Server 2005 Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Driver 1.0.
We are having some issues in getting it to work using the XA datasource. Description of the error is as follows:

The system is running on Windows Server 2003 64bit with SQLServer 2005 64bit, and JBoss running on JDK 1.5.0 (32bit) Can anyone tell me what this message indicates?
I'm having a problem connecting with a Java application but I CAN connect using my .Net application - the user name and password are the same for both (using the same database on SQL Server Express 2005).
The error I get is: "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Cannot open database "CORNERS" requested by the login. The login failed." An interesing note - I get the same message if the database is not running.
SQL Server Express 2005 is installed in mixed mode.

I've got a table adapter that connects using an oracle data connector. In the adapter, I'm using native oracle SQL such as:
select TO_DATE(SUBSTR(TO_CHAR(weird_oracle_field),0,12),'YYYYMMDDHH24MI') as dt_added from oracle_data_table
There's also a CASE statement in there with some other data transformations.
Anyway, I want to take the results of that Oracle query and put the dataset into a SQL Server Compact Edition database - within an application that I'm creating in Visual Studio 2005.
For whatever reason, I can't seem to do anything like that in 'bulk' and there aren't any data migration tools that work with anything other than "full" SQL Server versions. My client doesn't support SQL Server, but I can deploy my app with SQL CE. I need a 'local' copy of the database (for several reasons) and just can't seem to figure out how to make this work.
I'm really going nuts. I feel like I'm soooo close when I see the data I want in the table adapter - but I can't seem to actually *move* the data over!!
I was wondering if it's possible to use a sharepoint list as datasource in reporting services ? If yes, what's your trick ? Is it possible to use a directory as datasource in reporting services ?
