I'm still stuck with my problem. Going back to first post, the original problem was that, when applying "SQL server Express with advanced tools SP2", I had to stop because of following item which was disabled:
- Workstation components and development tools 9.1.2047.00
=> which is simply disabled???
Then from 2nd post, I could verify from Add/Remove Programs that all components installed for SQL Server 2005 were Express edition.
Also, following explanations from Mike, I could check that the toolkit that was installed was also from Express Edition looking at following registry key:
"You can do so in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsSetup. Look at the Edition Type..."
Finally, a question still remain. Starting from the fact that I originally applied SQL Server 2005 SP1 with success using following sequence:
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with advanced services SP1
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit SP1
and that I could verify, following Mike's suggestion, that all SQL Server Software found in registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server90...) are all listed (vs Edition type) as Express editions:
==> Should I apply the "Express Edition Toolkit SP2" before applying the "SQL Server 2005 Express with advanced Services SP2"???

I started applying "SQL server Express with advanced tools SP2" and had to stop on following items which I'm not too sure about what I must understand from step "Existing components". Those three items listed were:

Looking at the results, everything seems to be normal. Only Express Edition, all same level which should be SP1. What step should I take to be able to upgrade to SP2 properly?

First, thanks for the response.... now here is what im trying to do. I created a simple application in delphi to import information to a table in MSSql2005. This is some of the resulting columns...
Now there will be several entries with the same id no but on different dates, so i take it dates would rather be my pkey.
Then i need to take one person's entries(i work on id_nbr) and go thru all the entries taking the earliest date and comparing all the other entries for that person to the first date and select all the dates more than 19 days after the first date and less than 91 days from first date and place it in a new table. I used cursor s and while loops to kind of get it going but i know that cursors are not really recommended use but the performance implications dont bother with this particular job.
What other ways should i be using to accomplish this?
Is it possible to install and configure the MSDTC resource in a SQL Server 2000 cluster after SQL is installed and running?
When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.

We've just starting rolling out SQL Server 2005 SP2 (9.0.3042) on 1 single server and some clusters.
Generally we are never implemented post fix etc etc just service pack. I can see more post fixes comes out. For the single box, what is the best practise to apply this upgrade? Apply this fix and hoping no issue :) I guess testing it's the best but if you get the so many hot fixes thay means have to test one by one?
How do you for the cluster? Once you update one node, does it actually update the second node as well?
But it won't post and I get cannot find server and there are some other posts as well. What could be the problem

Today I attempted to install SQL Reporting Services on a box that only has the OLE DB driver for Analysis Services and the MSXML components; both of which are SP2.
When running the SQL Server 2005 install to install SSRS, I get an error:
"SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme."
This box has barely anything on it aside from ProClarity Analytics Server and the components I mentioned above. My only guess is that the SQL 2005 installer sees some newer components that are SP2 and it thinks they are beta? I know for sure I do not have any beta software on this machine.
Lets say I use the 'enabling roles' for my ASP 2.0 site. This creates a ASPNETDB.DBF SQL Express file. Later I go to post this to a real web server - which runs the 'full' MS SQL2005 server. What happens to the ASPNETDB.MDF file (or for that matter, any other MDF file I create with SQL Express) when it leaves the Express world and enters the Real world.
Hi can someone help me please? I browsed through the SP2 install feedback below, but it doesn't quite seem to fit what happened to my install. My .MDF and .LDF files for the system databases are in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSQL.1MSQLData (I presume this is the correct location.)
I am the local administrator on this box.
I uploaded the .CAB file with all the logs onto www.sendspace.com if it gives you something to go on.
The only other thing of note is that it said there were two machines on the network and that I needed to change my machine name in the control panel when I installed. This doesn't seem right, as far as I understand the computer name is unique.
The SQL Server runs under the local system account, if that is of any use.
I attempted uninstalling and reinstalling the SQL native client MSI package in the hope it would be a simple fix similar to that chap further down the page, but that didn't help at all either.

Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.
My situation:
My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:
Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start

The update fails although I have cleaned the registry of any reference to it. Another article indicated that the hotfix may delete registry keys required, for instance, to operated SSIS if applied in the wrong order. Here, it appears to be preventing the hotfix from being reapplied. I have ensured that all necessary permissions are available and the services are running in domain user accounts with the necessary rights. I'm the administrator on the machine.
Is there a way to get this hotfix applied without having to completely rip and rebuild my server instance?
Alright so here is what I am trying to do. I have a form that someone fills out it has a text box as title, and a drop down box that is a category, and then a text area that is for their explanation. On the back end I am using a stored procedure called sp_store_bkm. Now on my front end it comes up with an error in the lower left (erros on page). When I click on the error for details it seems like it is coming fromt he connection string. I cant find anything wrong with the connection string. I am a student at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. We have a big db project tomorrow and I'm proud with the work I've done so far, I've designed my own db and tested it using queries and such. Pretty good for being introduced to SQL just a couple short months ago. Anyway, I've sort of run into a wall here. I need to have an attribute of a table be computed from others.
I'm working with 2005 Server Management Studio and I have found the computed column specification under the column properties tab. I know that I have to enter a formula, but I'm just not sure on what to do. I have a CHG_HOUR attribute in a table called "EXPERTISE" which signifies how much a consultant charges per hour, based on what he exactly does. I also have a JOB_HOURS attribute in a JOB table (that links my CONTRACT table to CONSULTANT). I want to basically give a formula that multiplies the CHG_HOUR from the EXPERTISE table by the JOB_HOURS in the JOB table. Any suggestions on how I might do this?

I have a question about the post SP2 GDR that just came out in the last day or two. My laptop only has the client tools installed, not the server components (except for the SSIS server component). Is there any need for me to install this GDR? Does it impact the Management Studio code which views maintenance plans on remote SQL Servers or anything?
Is it possible to install SQL Server 2005 Eval on a Virtual PC 2007 client running Server 2008 Beta? Nothing says it isn't possible, it says I need to service pack it right away, but before it gets started it comes up with the error 'sqlcu.dll failed to load'. Anyone know what this is all about?
If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.
We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking. The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end. This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions. So, after the upgrade we now receive 100's of thexe SQL excptions per day:A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. I have tried several times to install SQL server onto an NT4.0 server which is more than capable of having more than one application to cope with, however, when going through the install procedure the programm stops with the following message

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 on a server 2000 machine, everything is working with the exception of the Web Service Identity. Recently I have installed Visual Studion Team System 2008 Development Edition in my sytem. Along with this, MS-SQL Server aand MSSQL Server Compact Edition is also installed. I need to install the SQL Server 2005 in my system.
In such a scenario, does the Compact Edition is required? Can I uninstall them and install Sql Server 2005 only? If I uninstall anything, would it cause any problems for the .Net programs to work?
I am developing an application using Visual Web Designer (language VB) with a SQL Server 2000 back end. Within my logic I have a point where I want to say "Run SQL procedure GEDFinish". GEDFinish can take several minutes, and I don't need to wait for it's results - it would be fine if it ran overnight. I can easily check whether GEDFinish has run from the database, in situation where my application logic needs to know if it has already run. Currently I only know how to run a procedure under the direct control of my web program, but with GEDFinish this fails due to timeouts. (This will be worse in the production site). What I really want to do is to have my web program submit "Exec GEDFinish" to the SQL agent, and then forget about it. It would be even better if I could build a script for the SQL agent, for example "EXEC GEDFinish Parameter=7" Help! How do I do this? Thanks, Robert Barnes

I have 3 servers A) SQL2000 sp2 Standard edition 1024 MB memory B) SQL2000 sp2 Standard edition 3072 MB memory C) SQL2000 sp2 Enterprise edition 2048 MB memory
All servers use same mail profile and they all run under same account MYDomainsvcSql2000 for server and agent and connected to same mail server 1. server C run fine 2. servers A and B could stop mail service during the day and the only way to restart it is to open EM and retype password for Sql server account (it will force Server and agent restart)
