4 Part Name Join Returning Too Much Data

Jan 12, 2008

Hello,

I recently created a linked server to db2. When I do a join on the linked server it is returning to much data.
select * from table1 left join [linkedServer]..Schema.Table as tb1 on table1.id=tb1.id

For now, I had to first get the ids I wanted from table1 and then use a subquery to join table1 on the a result set produced from a query to the linked server that only specified those ids. Below is an example

select * from table1 left join (select col1 from [linkedServer]..Schema.table where id=1 or id=2) as tb1 on table1.id=tb1.id

I'm guessing I have some setting wrong. One of the biggest reasons for me to use the four part name is so I can do joins like the first example.

Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks

Transact SQL :: Returning Different Data When Part Of Query Is Separate?

Aug 3, 2015

I am writing a stored procedure to prepare some reports.

The issue is that I am summing up the combined bid, 'QuoteTotal' + Sum(InvoiceItemAmount) (eg, quote add ons).

When part of the larger query it returns a different, and incorrect amount. The query listed after the main query is just that line and it's appropriate parts and it returns the correct amount. What can I do to correct this and where lies the problem so I can learn from this situation?

alter PROCEDURE [dbo].[Select_Quote_Info_By_Salesmen_By_Status]
@Salesmen nvarchar(50),
@QuoteStatus nvarchar(50)

Inner Join Part 2

Dec 7, 2006

Getting back way too many records with this on - over 4500 and should only be about 350.....
Here's the sql that's not working right:
SELECT c.Name, a.ID, a.Description, s.Status, b.Location, a.scheduleBegin, a.scheduleEnd
from tblEquipments a
inner join tblEquipments_Group U on u.categoryID = a.EquipmentType
inner join tblStatus S on a.status = S.statusID
and u.subCategoryID = @type
inner join tblLocation b on a.status = b.locationID
inner join tblSubCategories c on u.subCategoryID = @type
and c.Parent = @type
The table tblSubCategories has a field Name that I need.
tblSubCategories  has a field, Parent, that will = @type
See this post for the other table fields if needed.
 http://forums.asp.net/thread/1489880.aspx
If I omit the last inner join, all is ok, but I need that last bit of info - the c.Name.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Zath

Problem With Join (part 2)

Apr 15, 2008

I made a part 2 because it would clear things up I guess.

Right, so I have this SP with

....
Select
ZMZKOrder zk
right join ZMProduct pr on (zk.zkproductid = pr.productid)
...

AND we have

...
Where
((zk.zkmoduleid = @moduleid) or (zk.zkmoduleid is Null))
....

Actually what I want is:

If there really is a corresponding productid (because of the right join, this doesn't have to be true) it must check that this zk.zkmoduleid = @moduleid is true.

And if there is NO corresponing productid, it must check that zk.zkmoduleid is Null is true.

And not both at the same time.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Transact SQL :: Using Join With Part Of A Table

Jul 14, 2015

I have a table like this :

reg.no |   description |  start_date |  end_date |   load_date

I want to join this table with itself on reg. no. But not all the rows in table must be joined.

But for example, rows with load_date 01-07-2015 to be joined with rows with load_date 02-07-2015. And the rest of the rows should not used in join (for example, rows having other load_dates)

Is this possible ? and how?

Select From Linked Server Using Join, The Multi-part Identifier Could Not Be Bound.

Nov 6, 2006

Hello,

i am facing a bizarre problem, accessing data from a remote server which has been linked to my sql.
My SQL server is 2005 and the remote server is SQL 2000.
i have linked the remote server (called LinkedServer) so that when i run this query:
SELECT * FROM LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable
executes successfully! However, when i run a similar query like this:
SELECT Column1 AS Col1,
LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2 as Col2,
Alias.Column3 as Col3
FROM LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable
INNER JOIN LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable1 ON LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3 = LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable1.Column3

INNER JOIN LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeOtherTable2 AS Alias
ON LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3 = Alias.Column3

It gives me this error:
The multi-part identifier "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2" could not be bound.
The multi-part identifier "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column3" could not be bound.
I have noticed that this error is generated only for the selected columns whose path has either been repeated (e.g. "LinkedServer.SomeDB.dbo.SomeTable.Column2" as opposed to "Column2") or for columns which are from aliased tables.

What is going on?!?!?!??!?!?!

Any Help would be tremendously appreciated!!!! 8..)

Left Join Not Returning Rows

Nov 3, 2005

SELECT
[tblSections].[pageTitle],
[tblSections].[sectionURL],
[tblSectionContents].[articleID],
[tblSectionContents].[fileID],
[tblSectionContents].[linkID],
[tblCopy].[copyText],
[tblFiles].[fileName],
[tblFiles].[fileCaption],

[tblLinks].[linkURL]
FROM [tblSections]
LEFT JOIN [tblSectionContents] ON [tblSectionContents].[sectionID] = [tblSections].[id]
LEFT JOIN [tblCopy] ON [tblSectionContents].[articleID] = [tblCopy].[id]
LEFT JOIN [tblFiles] ON [tblSectionContents].[fileID] = [tblFiles].[id]
LEFT JOIN [tblGroupings] ON [tblFiles].[groupingID] = [tblGroupings].[id]

WHERE [tblSections].[id]=2
ORDER BY
[tblSectionContents].[articleID],
[tblSectionContents].[fileID],
[tblSectionContents].[linkID]

If I pass it the ID of a section that has files or copy or [stuff in other tables] attached, then I get a result set that makes sense.

But if I pass it a section ID that doesn't reference any other content tables (ie: the section just has a title and a link URL), I don't get anything back.

Shouldn't it should still get me the fields from the row in tblSections that matches the ID I'm passing it?

How can I make it so that it does?

Thanks :)

Why Is This JOIN Statement Not Returning The Right Results?

Sep 19, 2007

Hi,
I have three tables:
1 Order Details
2 Product Info
3 Received Qty

The query is pretty simple however I'm getting incorrect results.

The query grabs a load of information (including a SUM statement) from the order details tbl.. this is INNER JOIN ed to the products tbl to match an ID field which grabs some extra info from the product info tbl.

all fairly straightforward and works without a problem..

However I now need to add in the received qty tbl (as the name suggests this keep a track of the qty's of items received)

I need to join this tbl to the order details tbl based on a unique ID from the orders tbl and then SUM together all of the entries in that received qty tbl for that item.

Result is I get a single record which shows the qty ordered (from the order details tbl), and the total received (from the received qty) tbl

These are held in a seperate tbl as an order can be deliveryed in several stages.

Here is my statement:

SELECT PDS_Login.Supplier_Products.ProductName, PDS_Login.Supplier_Products.ProductCode, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.POID,
dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PODetailsID, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.Qty, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PricePerItem,
dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PoDetailsStatus, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PoDateExpected, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PODateReceived,
SUM(dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.Qty * dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PricePerItem) AS LineTotal, SUM(dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details_Received.Qty)
AS QtyReceived
FROM dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details INNER JOIN
PDS_Login.Supplier_Products ON dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.ProductID = PDS_Login.Supplier_Products.ProductID LEFT OUTER JOIN
dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details_Received ON dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PODetailsID = dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details_Received.PODetailsID
WHERE (dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.POID = @POID)
GROUP BY dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details_Received.Qty, PDS_Login.Supplier_Products.ProductName, PDS_Login.Supplier_Products.ProductCode,
dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.POID, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PODetailsID, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.Qty, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PricePerItem,
dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PoDetailsStatus, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PoDateExpected, dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details.PODateReceived,
dbo.Suppliers_POs_Details_Received.Qty

The problem is, if there is more than one relating record in teh Received Qty tbl instead of that being added together as I want, two results appear...

It's obviously something simple but I can't seem to figure it out - anyone point me in the right direction?

The regular left join

Returns the all the names of the parishes and the first name of the associated drive, followed by the matches, however the two parishes with no matches have null for the first name.

Left Outer Join Not Returning All/null Rows

Table 2 - CompanyModules
ModuleID | CompanyID
1 | 1
2 | 1
3 | 1

I'd like to return the following result set:
CompanyModules.CompanyID | Modules.Name | Present
1 | A | True
1 | B | True
1 | C | True
2 | A | True
2 | B | False
2 | C | False

What would be the query for this? Thanks.

Edit: This is the query I have tried:

select CompanyModules.CompanyID, Modules.Name, count(Modules.ID) as Present from

CompanyModules RIGHT outer Join Modules on CompanyModules.ModuleID = Modules.ID

group By CompanyModules.CompanyID, Modules.Name

Order by CompanyID

However, it only returns a partial result set:

CompanyModules.CompanyID | Modules.Name | Present
1 | A | 1
1 | B | 1
1 | C | 1
2 | A | 1

Web Part Deserialization Error When Trying To Change Report Viewer Web Part Programmatically.

Oct 29, 2007

I have SSRS 2005 SP2 configured to work in Sharepoint integration. Everything works fine except that I am not able to programmatically change any property of report viewer web part (instance) that I have added on on home page of my sharepoint site.
I can do same thing via sharepoint UI but not through program. When my programs runs it fetches all web parts been added on home page, then I need to iterate through each one and find report viewer web part.
While iterating, as soon as I arrive to report viewer web part it is named as "Error web part" with error message as
"Windows SharePoint Services cannot deserialize the Web Part. Check the format of the properties and try again"

If someone has a solution, please respond at your earlist.

Split A Decimal Number Into The Integer Part And The Fraction Part

Dec 7, 2007

I have a table with a column named measurement decimal(18,1).  If the value is 2.0, I want the stored proc to return 2 but if the value is 2.5 I want the stored proc to return  2.5.  So if the value after the decimal point is 0, I only want the stored proc to return the integer portion.  Is there a sql function that I can use to determine what the fraction part of the decimal value is?  In c#, I can use
dr["measurement "].ToString().Split(".".ToCharArray())[1] to see what the value after the decimal is.

SQL 2012 :: Function With 2nd Part Working On Results 1st Part

Jan 28, 2015

I have made the following Scalar-valued function:

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[TimeCalc]
(
@OriginalTime AS INTEGER
, @TenthsOrHundredths AS INTEGER -- code 2: 1/10, code 4: 1/100
)
RETURNS NVARCHAR(8)

[Code] ....

What it does is convert numbers to times

E.g.: 81230 gets divided by 10 (times in seconds: 8123). This 1 1 full minute, and the remainder = 2123 making it 1.21.23 mins)

So far so good (function works perfectly)

My question: sometimes times are in 1/100 (like above sample), sometimes in 1/10.

This means that, e.g. with a time like 3.23.40 the last zero must be deleted.

My thoughts are to use the results from the Return Case part, and as the code = 4: leave it as it is,

is the code 2 the use LEFT(... result Return Case ..., Len(..result Return Case.. - 1))

There are 5 codes: 0 1 2 3 and 4

SQL Server 2012 :: Data Grouping On 2 Levels But Only Returning Conditional Data

May 7, 2014

I think I am definitely thrashing and am not getting anywhere on something I think should be pretty simple to accomplish: I need to pull the total amounts for compartments with different products which are under the same manifest and the same document number conditionally based on if the document types are "Starting" or "Ending" but the values come from the "Adjust" records.

So here is the DDL, sample data, and the ideal return rows

CREATE TABLE #InvLogData
(
Id BIGINT, --is actually an identity column
Manifest_Id BIGINT,
Doc_Num BIGINT,
Doc_Type CHAR(1), -- S = Starting, E = Ending, A = Adjust
Compart_Id TINYINT,

[Code] ....

I have tried a combination of the below statements but I keep coming back to not being able to actually grab the correct rows.

SELECT DISTINCT(column X)
FROM #InvLogData
GROUP BY X
HAVING COUNT(DISTINCT X) > 1

One further minor problem: I need to make this a set-based solution. This table grows by a couple hundred thousand rows a week, a co-worker suggested using a <shudder/> cursor to do the work but it would never be performant.

Sql Not Returning Any Data

Feb 20, 2007

Hello,
Im currently working on a asp.net file hosting wesite, and im being faced with some problems
I currently have 4 sql tables. DownloadTable, MusicTable, ImageTable and VideoTable. Each of those tables contain a UserName column, a fileSize column and sme other columns. What i want to do is add up all the values in the fileSize column, for each table, and then add them up with the tables, and return one value, and all this happens where the UserName column corresponds to the UserName of the currently logged on User.
I already have an sql statement that performs this exact thing. It is as follow
select TotalDownLoadSize = sum(DownloadSize) + (select sum(VideoSize) from VideoTable where ([UserName] = @UserName ) ) + (select sum(ImageSize) from Images where ([UserName] = @UserName) ) + (select sum(MusicSize) from MusicTable where ([UserName] = @UserName) ) from DownloadTable where ([UserName] = @UserName)
But the problem is that all of the tables have to have a value in there size columns for the corresponding user, for this sql statement to return something.
For example, lets say i logged in as jon. If, for the UserName jon, the sum of DownloadTable returned 200, the sum of VideoTable returned 300, the sum of MusicTable returned 100. The sql statement i stated above will return 4 instead of 600, if the sum of ImageTable returned zero.
Is there  way around this?
Im not sure if ive been cleared enough, please feel free to request more info as needed.
Thank you very much, and thx in advance.

Excluding Part Of Select Statement If No Data Is Returned In Results

Aug 22, 2006

I have a query that returns results based on information in several tables.  The problem I am having is that is there are no records in the one table it doesn't return any information at all.  This table may not have any information initially for the employees so I need to show results whether or not there is anything in this one table.
Here is my select statement:
  SELECT employee.emp_id, DATEDIFF(mm, employee.emp_begin_accrual, GETDATE()) * employee.emp_accrual_rate -
(SELECT SUM(request_duration) AS daystaken
FROM request) AS daysleft, employee.emp_lname + ', ' + employee.emp_fname + ' ' + employee.emp_minitial + '.' AS emp_name,
department.department_name, location.location_name
FROM employee INNER JOIN
request AS request_1 ON employee.emp_id = request_1.emp_id INNER JOIN
department ON employee.emp_department = department.department_id INNER JOIN
location ON department.department_location = location.location_id
GROUP BY employee.emp_id, employee.emp_begin_accrual, employee.emp_accrual_rate, employee.emp_fname, employee.emp_minitial,
employee.emp_lname, department.department_name, location.location_name
ORDER BY location.location_name, department.department_name, employee.emp_lname

The section below is the part that may or may not contain information:
  SELECT (SELECT SUM(request_duration) AS daystaken
FROM request) AS daysleft

So I need it to return results whether this sub query has results or not.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Most Efficient Way Of Returning Data

Feb 22, 2007

I have a number of tables, and I need to create a summary of the data. Now I have two choices. I could create a stored procedure that creates a temp table with the filters applied. This would require 12 selects for each year (we have 3 years of data so far). This means 36 selects so far that fill a temp table. The second choice is to create a table with the required columns and rows. As I am esspecially cross-joining 4 tables, the table would have about 10 x 10 x 12 x A rows, where A is a variable that will grow quickly. I can then keep this table up-to-date using triggers for each insert. Then all I need to do is use an aggregate funtion on the relevant filter. My question is, which is more efficient. Creating a stored procedure that creates the table dynamically, or have a table with thousands of rows and using an aggregate function on these.PS I am using SQL Server 2000Jag

2 Querys Not Returning The Same Data

Apr 17, 2008

I have two databases with table structures exactly the same. The query in one database works and returns correctly. The same query (copied and pasted) in another database returns the correct records but completely ignores the order by. Even stranger, when you are creating the query under modify and run it, it is fine. But when I right-click on the query and go to 'Open View' then the query does not return correctly. Below is the query:

SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT pf.description AS incentive, CAST(i.targetc AS FLOAT) AS targetc, i.targetp, b.basis, d.description, i.iSelect, i.direction, pf.pValue,
pf.pFigure
FROM dbo.PerfFactorWeights AS pfw INNER JOIN
dbo.PerfFactors AS pf ON pfw.incentiveID = pf.incentiveID INNER JOIN
dbo.Incentive AS i ON pfw.incentiveID = i.incentiveID AND pfw.basis = i.basisID INNER JOIN
dbo.Basis AS b ON i.basisID = b.basisID INNER JOIN
dbo.Division AS d ON pfw.division = d.uniqueID
ORDER BY incentive, d.uniqueID, b.basis

Query Not Returning Data

May 29, 2008

Hello everyone,

I set up a View in SQL Server 2005. The syntax checks ok, however, when I execute it, it doesn't return any data.
This is my Query:

SELECT DATEPART(hh, Time) AS Time, COUNT([Recipient-Address]) AS [CountOfRecipient-Address], ROUND(SUM([Total-bytes]) / 1048576, 2)
AS [SumOfTotal-Bytes]
FROM dbo.TrackingLog
WHERE (RIGHT([Recipient-Address], LEN([Recipient-Address]) - PATINDEX([Recipient-Address], '@')) IN
(SELECT Domains
FROM dbo.Domains))
GROUP BY DATEPART(hh, Time)

The part that I am most concerned about is the WHERE section. If I remove it, I get some data returned. If I don't, obviously I don't get anything back.

Any suggestion would be great.

Thanks

Problem Returning SQL Data

Apr 9, 2007

I'm having trouble with the display of data when I test my asp page. I basically retrieves or pulls data from different tables in a database. Based on an ID number (which I can change manually by typing in a value and appending it to the URL), it shows GuestName, GuestDescription and URL as text link. I can get it to do that much. But for some reason it's not showing the URL associated with the Guest Name. I dont think it's the display section of my code. I think it's the Select statement.

Here is what the output looks like in my Firefox and IE browsers when I test. Some data has been changed to protect it's integrity:

(Name in bold) Mark Crisp's author of The Bush Lexicon. His new book...

Related Links:
John Doe interviewed by Susan Smith, 123 News

What it should say in the link is this: Mark Crisp's blog (as text link)

When I test for different data I just change the end of the URL like this:
defaultprogram4.asp?ID=1234 (this number represents an ID column in a table)

Code Snippet

<%
set con = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
con.Open "File Name=E:webserviceCompanyCompany.UDL"
set rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")

id=request.querystring("id") 'If this line is commented out the page will be blank.
'However you can still append a record number to the end of the URL and display that one.

IF id <> "" then id=id else id="1234" end if 'This line shows the default record of 1234. If this line is commented out the page will ONLY show the default record but will NOT allow you
'to append a different number

strSQL = "SELECT *, T_Programs.ID AS Expr1, T_ProgramGuests.ProgramID AS Expr2, T_ProgramGuests.GuestName AS Expr3, T_ProgramGuests.GuestDescription AS Expr4, T_ProgramLinks.URL AS Expr5, T_ProgramLinks.Description AS Expr6 FROM T_ProgramGuests CROSS JOIN T_Programs CROSS JOIN T_ProgramLinks WHERE (T_ProgramGuests.ProgramID = '" & id & "')"

rs.Open strSQL,con 'open a connection to the database

%>

<br />
<strong><% Response.Write RS ("GuestName") %> </strong> <% Response.Write RS("GuestDescription") %><br /><br />
Related Links:<br />
<li class='basic'><A HREF="<%= RS("URL") %>"><%= RS("Description") %></A></li>

<!-- END OF THE GUESTS AND LINKS SECTION -->

<%
recProgram.Close
con.Close
set recProgram = nothing
set con = nothing
%>

Bottom line here is this: Why would I be seeing one name but a link not associated with that name? It's as though it's reading a name from the ProgramGuests table and a URL from the
ProgramLinks table (Except that: it shows a completely different unrelated URL to that name).

What am I missing?
