SSIS Calling Web Service Task 401 Unauthorized Error

May 23, 2007

Hello,

I'm pretty stuck on a security issue in SSIS. The web service works by itself, but I can't call it from SSIS, it gives me a 401 unauthorized error. The web service also uses impersonation of my domain admin account.

I have tried the following things:
Setting integrated windows authentication in IIS
Setting the NTFS permissions of those web site directories to EVERYONE
Using a credential / proxy in SSIS and running it from SQL Agent
Changing the log on services of MSSQLSERVER, SQLAGENT, and SQL Integration Services to my domain admin account

I can't get anything to work. What is wrong with this thing? Microsoft's security model has gotten completley out of of hand imo

Also in the security event log it shows all authentication as successful.

Unauthorized Operation Setting Application Security Through VS2005 (Why?)

Feb 12, 2007

I'm attempting to setup the defaco MS security for membership and roles, using a newly created database under SQL 2005 (not express). I created the database using the aspnet_regsql.exe utility and that worked fine. I created my provider connection string logging in as 'sa' wit the proper password. All that seemed to work okay too. However when I attempt to change any of the settings like setting the authentication type or enabling roles, I get the follwing error message: The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation. at System.Security.AccessControl.Win32.SetSecurityInfo(ResourceType type, String name, SafeHandle handle, SecurityInfos securityInformation, SecurityIdentifier owner, SecurityIdentifier group, GenericAcl sacl, GenericAcl dacl) at System.Security.AccessControl.NativeObjectSecurity.Persist(String name, SafeHandle handle, AccessControlSections includeSections, Object exceptionContext) at System.Security.AccessControl.NativeObjectSecurity.Persist(String name, AccessControlSections includeSections) at System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemSecurity.Persist(String fullPath) at System.IO.File.SetAccessControl(String path, FileSecurity fileSecurity) at System.Configuration.Internal.WriteFileContext.DuplicateTemplateAttributes(String source, String destination) at System.Configuration.Internal.WriteFileContext.DuplicateFileAttributes(String source, String destination) at System.Configuration.Internal.WriteFileContext.Complete(String filename, Boolean success) at System.Configuration.Internal.InternalConfigHost.StaticWriteCompleted(String streamName, Boolean success, Object writeContext, Boolean assertPermissions) at System.Configuration.Internal.InternalConfigHost.System.Configuration.Internal.IInternalConfigHost.WriteCompleted(String streamName, Boolean success, Object writeContext, Boolean assertPermissions) at System.Configuration.Internal.InternalConfigHost.System.Configuration.Internal.IInternalConfigHost.WriteCompleted(String streamName, Boolean success, Object writeContext) at System.Configuration.Internal.DelegatingConfigHost.WriteCompleted(String streamName, Boolean success, Object writeContext) at System.Configuration.UpdateConfigHost.WriteCompleted(String streamName, Boolean success, Object writeContext) at System.Configuration.MgmtConfigurationRecord.SaveAs(String filename, ConfigurationSaveMode saveMode, Boolean forceUpdateAll) at System.Configuration.Configuration.SaveAsImpl(String filename, ConfigurationSaveMode saveMode, Boolean forceSaveAll) at System.Configuration.Configuration.Save(ConfigurationSaveMode saveMode) at System.Web.Administration.WebAdminPage.SaveConfig(Configuration config) at ASP.security_setupauthentication_aspx.UpdateAndReturnToPreviousPage(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.System.Web.UI.IPostBackEventHandler.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument) at System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(IPostBackEventHandler sourceControl, String eventArgument) at System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(NameValueCollection postData) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)Anyone have any clue why this is happening? Do I need to add something to the database as far as users/roles go? I figured 'sa' would have free roam, but something permission-wise just isn't jiving.

I am using mixed security on the SQL server and have an NT group 'NT_GROUP'.
The login for 'NT_GROUP' has been added to SQL server and has been explicitly granted access to only one database.

Using access database project (ADP), a user in the group is able to gain access to other databases (master, tempdb, msdb, etc.) as well.

It is very important to be able to prevent this access.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Integrated Security: Preventing Access Via Unauthorized Applications

Feb 20, 2008

Hi €“

We have built a .NET on SQL Server application with extensive business functionality and security. It uses SQL integrated security to control logon and access to the database objects. There is business logic built into the .NET code, so I don€™t want any chance that users access the tables directly through a tool such as Management Studio - many users need update, delete, insert on tables in order to use the applications functions. With integrated security they can logon through SQL Management Studio and change data in the tables directly.

How are people who are using integrated security for their business applications preventing logons through unauthorized tools or applications?

SQL Server Access From ASP.Net Application.

Apr 27, 2006

Hello all,  We have a SQL database that uses a MS Access projectfront-end, which I am now creating an ASP.Net application for (And am completely new to so may be missing some foundation concepts).  With the Access project I added Active Directory groups to the database to use for permissions, logins, etc.  For the ASP app I have it set to use Forms authentication  with Active Directory (ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider).  I can login to the app with the AD usernames/passwords but the connection from ASP.Net to SQL is using the ASP User.  Is there a way to provide the authentication from the ActiveDirectoryMembership through to the SQL server, so the user: bobuser would be authenticated to SQL instead of ASPNETUSER?Or do I need to have the ASP.net app handle the permissions of which SP's a user can execute?Any help or suggestions are appreciated.Thanks,Jamie.

Now I need to secure the data on server and want to access it ONLY through interface I created in MS Access. Every user has to log in the application (user id and password). Users may have the same access rights to the server (so maybe just one account or whatever I need for all of them). Can anyone advice me how to set it up? To access sql server from MS Access I am using ADO.

Calling An SQL Server 2005 Stored Procedure Within Microsoft Access And Reading Values

Jan 14, 2008

Goodday.

I have finally been able to create a connection from Access to the SQL 2005 Server and was able to call a stored proc (in Server) in the following way

Code Block
Dim cnn As New ADODB.Connection
Dim cmd As New ADODB.Command
Dim rst As New ADODB.Recordset

cnn.ConnectionString = "Provider='sqloledb'; Data Source='Private';" & _
"Initial Catalog='DBName';Integrated Security='SSPI';"

cnn.Open

cmd.ActiveConnection = cnn
cmd.CommandText = "sp_DefaultEntityData"
cmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc

Set rst = cmd.Execute

rst.MoveFirst
Do While Not rst.EOF
lstEntity.AddItem (rst.Fields(0)), 0
'lstEntity.AddItem (rst.Fields(1)), 1
rst.MoveNext
Loop

The Stored Proc is as follow:

Code Block
set ANSI_NULLS ON
set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
go

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_DefaultEntityData]
AS
BEGIN

SET NOCOUNT ON;

SELECT tblEntities.[Name], tblEntities.PrimaryKey
FROM tblEntities
ORDER BY tblEntities.PrimaryKey;

END

The table contains 24 entries

As you can see in the VB code, I am trying to read the returned "table" into an Access ListBox. The listbox should display the entities Name but not the Primary key, but the primary key should still be "stored" in the to so that it can be used to access other data.

I have moved the tables from Access to SQL Server 2005, and would also like to port all the sql queries to sp's in SQL Server. The old way for populating the listbox was a direct SQL query in the RowSource property field. I have tried to set the lstEntity.RowSource = rst but it did not work.

Here are my Q's:
1) As what does the SP return when it is called and is there a better way to catch it than I am doing at the moment?
2) How do I read the values into the listbox, without displaying the primary key in die box?

Thank you in advance!
Any help is very much appreciated.

Restricting Application Access To SQL Server 7

Jul 12, 2000

Hi all

Certain people in our company want to use Crystal Reports for data-processing. Problem is we want them to NOT be able to access data in databases within the live server.

Given that we use trusted connection to validate all kind of data-access, I am wondering if there is a way so that (via NT administration or via some SQL Server security features)
the live-server can refuse any connection request from the Crystal Reports application. At the moment the same group of people are allowed access to database (and should remain to be so) on this "live" server via some other applications (e.g. Microsoft Access).

Any advice is welcomed.

If CalcFiscalAge > CalcLifeCode + 1 Then
locCalcFiscalAge = 0
locFactor = 1.0
End If
If (CalcLocConvention <> "HALF-YEAR" And CalcLifeYearsUsed < CalcLifeCode) Then
locFactor = Math.Round((CalcLifeYearsUsed / CalcLifeCode), 4)
End If
If (CalcLocConvention = "HALF-YEAR") Then
for YR = 1 to CalcFiscalAge step 1
If YR = CalcLifeCode + 1 Then
locFactor1 = 1
Exit For
End If
If (YR = 1 Or YR = CalcFiscalAge) Then
HALF_YEAR = 2
Else
HALF_YEAR = 1
End If
LINEAR = Math.Round(REM1 / (CalcLifeCode - YR + 1.5) / HALF_YEAR, 4)
MACR = Math.Round(REM1 / CalcLifeCode * CalcSRate / HALF_YEAR, 4)
If MACR >= LINEAR Then
DEP = MACR
Else
DEP = LINEAR
End If
locFactor1 = locFactor1 + DEP
REM1 = 1 - locFactor1
locFactor = locFactor1
Next
End If
Return locFactor
End Function

I'm calling this code in a Report Parameter like below:

=Code.CalcLocalFactor(Parameters!CalcLifeCode.Value,Parameters!CalcFiscalAge.Value,Parameters!CalcLifeYearsUsed.Value,Parameters!CalcLifeYearsUsed.Value, Parameters!CalcSRate.Value )

It is working fine for the first record where as for other records, the value is not getting changed. i.e. the first records value is coming repeatedly for all other records also.

How can I dynamically change the parameter values of the function?

Parameter is not accepting directly the field names, hence I used other parameter to initialize the field and used that parameter for this.

Ex. Parameter Name ; FieldPurchDate (internal) FieldName : PURCHDATE
Other parameter: FieldInDate (internal) FieldName : InDate

While initializing the new parameter CalcPurchDate,, I used an expression for this: Parameters!CalcFiscalAge.Value

=iif(Parameters!FieldPurchDate.Value is nothing, Parameters!FieldInDate.Value,Parameters!FieldPurchDate.Value)

and using this CalcPurchDate for processing of the parameter:

These are some of the things , I am doing ....

Please let me know how to fix this issue...

Thanks in advance

Regards,

Radhika

ASP.NET Application - SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied

Feb 16, 2005

I have a ASP.NET time sheet management application I designed - today I put it live on the webserver and recreated the database on my SQL 2000 server. When I attempt to view, all of the pages where I query the database I catch the error "SQL Server does not exist or access denied".

The concerning part of this is that I have tested the live database from my development PC (remote - offsite) and it works fine. This shows that the database that I brought over is intact and the user has the appropriate permissions. The only thing that I changed in the application when I copied it to the server was the connection string server name to reflect the location change.

The setup is as follows:

Development PC on a broadband connection running Windows 2003 server enterprise, SQL Server 2000 SP3a, Visual Studio 2003 Enterprise.

Web/Database/Email server running Windows 2003 Standard, SQL Server 2000 SP3a, Exchange 2003, Active Directory, DNS etc.

When I run the application on the Web server from a browser with local names ie. http:\SERVER1application I get the "SQL Server does not exist or access denied" errors. When I try to connect to the application on the web server from my development PC i get the same problem.

When I changed the connection string on my development PC to the webserver/dbserver it runs fine.

I don't understand how a local proccess is having difficulty authenticating to the database when I can access it remotely just fine.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Porting An Existant Application From Ms Access To Sql Server

Jan 9, 2007

My database knowledge are with MySql and Oracle, but recently I was asked to evaluate the migration of an existing (and maybe more) from ms access to sql server. My question is simple, if all of the sql are hard coded into the code ... how well this sql will work, I mean is the sql between access and sql server are plug'n'play ? However in any case, I always rewiew all of the sql.
