We've deployed an assembly to a new production sql server 2005 instance, and have been having periodic restarts of sql server. The sql server service appears to be stopping and restarting on it's own since the assembly was deployed.
We've narrowed it down to a decryption method. We haven't been able to produce the issue on a consistant basis. Even if we put a ton of load on the stored procedure calls.
The error is below we receive (I cut out some, so it would fit in the thread), we also have mdmp files, that I've attempted to debug with Visual Studio 2005 and Windbg with no success. I have all the symbols (I'm pretty sure), but I don't have much experience with WinDbg, so it's been slow going.
Here's a little about the environment.
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 SP2
Microsoft SQL Server version 9.00.3042.00 SP2
16 MB physical memory
Quad 3.2 GHz Xeon
3 sets of raid drives.
c: OS
e: sql data
e: sql logs
All Sql and windows patches are up to date.
Only thing I can figure is this is something to do with the .NET libraries. When the assembly was compiled it was set to compile for any CPU. We even tried compiling on the 64 bit OS with no luck still.
If anyone has had a similar issue, it would be most helpful, thanks,

I corrected a small mistake (on Integrated Security-SSPI and executed the last code you gave me.
I got the following debug error message:
1) A Box appeared and said: String or binary data would be truncated.

AT(): Returns the beginning numeric position of the nth occurrence of a character expression within another character expression, counting from the leftmost character.
RAT(): Returns the numeric position of the last (rightmost) occurrence of a character string within another character string.
OCCURS(): Returns the number of times a character expression occurs within another character expression (including overlaps).
OCCURS2(): Returns the number of times a character expression occurs within another character expression (excluding overlaps).
PADL(): Returns a string from an expression, padded with spaces or characters to a specified length on the left side.

Hi,
I am using VS2005 C# + sql server 2005 Express edition.
I need to using a database that uses my own defined data types to define its tables columns.
I already have designed a Database projact and create the new UDT as follows:
Create a new Database project in the Visual C# language nodes.
Add a reference to the SQL Server 2005 database that will contain the UDT.
Add a User-Defined Type class.
Write code to implement the UDT.
Select Deploy from the Build menu.
Now I need to ask some quistions:
1- When I try to add a new query to a table that contains my new data type in its columns,if I try to exexute the query the next message appears:
'Execution of user code in the .Net framework is disabled. Enable "clr enabled" configuration option'.
How can I doing that??
2- I need to use that database - which has the new data type - in a traditional ' Visual C# Windows Application' instead of 'Database', but:
when I try to add a new Data Source that contains the tables that have the new data types in its definitions, the next message appears:
'<AyaDatabase.dbo.MyNewUDTTable>
User-defined types(UDTs)are not supported in the Dataset Designer.'
So, how can I resolve that problem??

I am trying to get a random value from a select statement. The only way I thought to do this would be to make a User Defined Aggregate Function at returns one of the rows at random. For example MIN(column) return the minimum value of that column, MAX(column) returns the maximum. I would like something like RANDOM(column) to return one of the values at random.
For example: select RANDOM(Name) from Names
So I went and created a user defined aggregate function:

The problem is that it wont deploy to the SQL Server because the varible "s" is not serilizable. Here is the error message:
Type "GetRandomFunction.GetRandom.GetRandom" is marked for native serialization, but field "s" of type "GetRandomFunction.GetRandom.GetRandom" is not valid for native serialization.
Can any help me with this? Is there any other way of storing the strings that will work?

Hi,
I have a table T1 with two fields. Field1 has repeated values and Field2 has unique values for any given Field1 value. F1 can have maybe 1000 different values while F2 maybe 20.
I would like to create a T2 table where Field1 has unique values and Field2 contains the concatenation of T1.Field1 values for each Field1 value.

Hi all,
I'm attempting to write an aggregate function in C++ to compare performance with the equivalent function in C#.
However, I'm having problems getting SQL Server to see the function in the assembly. It allows me to load the assembly into the database, but I can't see the type in it.

Compile it with /clr:safe option and it can be loaded as an assembly into SQL Server 2005 (9.0.1399), but the AGG_CPP_OR type is not seen as an aggregate function. I've also tried implementing IBinarySerialize and setting Format to Format::UserDefined (and putting in MaxByteSize) but it makes no difference.
Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

I want to write a Java User-defined aggregate (UDA). Shall I use J#?
I converted the C# example given in books online to J#. I am getting this error (as well as whole bunch of warning when I create the assembly.)

Just installed SQL Server 2005 and tested my old VS 2005 ASPnet websites, which were connected toSQL Server 2000 databases before. All my websites were created for local HTTP applications, coded with a connection string with User ID and Password. The SQL Server 2000 was configured as mixed authentication (i.e. with User ID and Password). These websites worked very well with SQL Server 2000 database server.Testing my old VS 2005 websites with SQL Server 2005 database, showed a 'Login failed for a User ''.' error msgalthough the 'Test Connection' on VS 2005 design showed a perfect query for e.g. a GridView control. I have assured that the UserID/Password were correct for Management Studio Security object'slogin and Database Security's user. The server instance was configured with mixed authentication mode. One thing I am not sure of is, when clicking the Management Studio icon, a Connection dialog showed up, asking for a Windows or MIxed authentication? I just stayed with the Windows authentication. What does the authenticationmode have anything to do with the VS 2005 website connection? Should I change to mixed authetnication mode?TIA,Jeffrey

Can anybody help me with the following problem:
I have Vista Ultimate installed and within Vista .NET Framework 3.0 is installed as a part of the operating system so I can't remove 3.0
Now for MS SQL Server 2005 Express I need .NET Framework 2.0 and the SQL Server 2005 doesn't work with .NET Framework 3.0
Can't install 2.0, get the message that 3.0 is already installed.

I have already installed to my computer Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and SQL Serves Express. I used to be successful to connect to the SQL Server but now I CAN NOT.
Not: I try to run SQL Server 2005 but I can not, even I logged on to my computer with an administrator rights. On the other hand I can start and stop the SQL Server Express easily.
As a result, how can I solve this problem.

We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking. The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end. This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions. So, after the upgrade we now receive 100's of thexe SQL excptions per day:A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. I'm not a DBA, so I don't know where to look for information on this.
In SQL Server 2005, I can simply no longer create a user for the database I created. It asks that the user be associated with a login. That login is found in the Security folder of the database instance.
The question is: what is this instance security folder for? I don't recall having to do this in SQL Server 2000.
Any elaboration or links to such information would be appreciated.

I am having a problem with creating databases in MS SQL 2005 Server. When I attempt to assign an User Mapping for my SQL user account to the newly created database, the "dbo" user and schema is already assigned. When I try to drop this user in favor of my own, I receive an error message: Cannot alter the user "dbo" (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15150). I am connected to my database engine through the "sa" account.

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. My site works fine in VWD2008 express, but I get this error when I try to use it on my live website.

According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277 I am supposed to:

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
Ok, there is no such program in this folder. The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"...
The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.

We have few C# binaries that contains definition of CLR functions, and one stored procedure to install / create them in our database. Recently when dropping and recreating the CLR function using our stored procedure, it failed with below error:

([URL])[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The transaction ended in the trigger. The batch has been aborted.
Basically our stored procedure has standard steps to create asymmetric key for each of our C# binary and create login for that key and then grant unsafe assembly permissions to those logins.
It sets show advanced options, clr enabled, and ole automation procedures options. It then using create assembly (for each c# binary with permission_set = unsafe) and create function constructs to create clr functions in SQL server.

Background: We have SQL Server 2005 x64 running on a quad-core (dual dual-core) machine with 16GB of RAM. The database is about 10GB in size and we execute around a million stored procedures a day on it. Our application uses about 1000 different stored procedures on this machine. The application is a transactional B2B web-app with about 2000 users.
The problem we have is a really odd one that I can't seem to find much information on. We have a small number (3-4) of stored procedures that's exibiting this problem.
The stored proc in question takes on average 100ms CPU time to execute. It's a fairly complex stored proc, about 300 lines long, 6-7 select statements and it uses temp tables. No updates / inserts except for on the temp tables. It's executed about 5000 times per day. About once a week, though, execution times will suddenly jump up to 3000 ms average. This happens randomly during the day, although it seems to happen more often on Monday mornings (the DB is mostly unutilized over the weekend)
To fix this, I force the DB to recalculate the execution plan by adding / removing (depending what I did last time around) the line 'set arithabort on' at the top of the stored procedure. I have no idea why this works, but it does. Within seconds of changing it, the stored proc execution time will go back to it's normal range of 60-150ms.
I've tried setting the execution plan of the stored procedure but I can't get it to work - the execution plan is very long and I don't know how to debug the error I get.
What is happening? This happens with a couple of stored procedures - usually the more complex ones. Has anyone seen anything like this?

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
