A Connection Was Successfully Established With The Server, But Then An Error Occurred During The Pre-login Handshake.
Nov 1, 2007
Hi,
I am having such a problem. I have SQL Express installed on the windows 2003 server and originally I installed instance1 of SQL Server 2005. When I installed Instance1, I remember having problems with remotely connecting to that instance1, but somehow I fixed it. Now I installed instance2 and I started having remote connection issues again with that instance2. I am able to connect to instance1 but not instance2. I checked settings for both instances and they look identical.
I turned firewall off for now. I checked TCP settings using surface area configuration (allowing both local and remote connections). I turned off VIA protocol. I specified TCP properties to use dynamic port for that instance2.
In the sql native client configuration I have the following order#: 1. Shared memory, 2. tcp, 3. np, 4. VIA(Disabled). TCP is configured to use 1433.
I have no clue about what is going on. Sometimes I am able to connect remotely and sometimes I get the following error:
"A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)."
When I connect locally - everything connects fine. File sharing is also checked, it works etc...
Thanks for help!!!
GK
I just noticed that I was able to connect from different computer on the different network.

I have just installed MS SQL Server 2005 Express edition along with the SSMSE. I am using windows authentication. When I open SSMSE it connects me to a 'local instance' of the server. From there I right click on Database and select to add a new Database and I get the error above. I think I only need to allow local connections to the engine but I have tried allowing remote conections with all varations of named pipes and TCP/IP. I am running on Windows XP SP2 (home).

i'm going nuts with SQL server notification thing. I have gone throigh this artical which tells how to set user http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/SqlDependencyPermissions.aspx. I get the following error approx once per week(not at the same day/time) when logging into our site:-
"a connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error : 0 - SSL Provider: )"
It's on SQL 2000 & Windows 2000.
It's a test server with very little traffic. At the moment an IISRESET allows access to the site again until 5 - 7 days later when the problem appears again.
Any ideas ?

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. From the stack, it is calling the System.Web.Profile and crashed when it tries to open a connection atSystem.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject). I already migrated all aspnet_user, aspnet_roles, etc.. and don't get any connection errors. It is only when I try to get the profile data. Hello, I have a sql 2005 server, and I am a developer, with the database on my own machine. It alwayws works for me but after some minutes the other developer cant work in the application
He got this error
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
and When I see the log event after that error, it comes with another error.
SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
He has IIS5 and me too.
I created a user on the domain called ASPSYS with password, then in the IIS on anonymous authentication I put that user with that password, and it works, on both machines.
and in the connection string I have.
<add key="sqlconn" value="Data Source=ESTACION15;Initial Catalog=GescomDefinitiva;Integrated Security=SSPI; Trusted_Connection=true"/>
I go to the profiler, and I see that when he browses a page, the database is accesed with user ASPSYS, but when I browse a page, the database is accesed with user SElevalencia.
Thats strange.
The only way that the other developer can work again on the project is to restart the whole machine. He has windows xp profession, I have windows 2000.
If you want me to send logs please tellme

Hello,
I'm having trouble getting my Sql connections working 100%. My pages usually connect ok, but sometimes for a reason I can't understand I get connection errors. I always use the connection string in web.config so there's only one connection string for the whole project.
I can be on one page, do nothing and just press F5, usually it works but sometimes it doesn't. It just throws this error. I've checked the surface area configuration and tcp/ip is of course allowed remotely. The weird thing is that it only happens sometimes, stops working for like 2-5 minutes and then starts working again. It might be some firewall related problem, but if so, what ports do Sql need to use tcp/ip connections? This might fix it but I don't think so, since it runs just fine on a Win2003 Server with the same firewall. On my local development machine (Vista) I get this problem.
Below is the complete error message:
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) "
Thanks beforehand for any and all replies!

I downloaded a project code for a project which was in the book ASP.Net instant results.
The code also came with a MDF file. I had sql server 2005 not Sql Server Express . So attached the mdf file to sql server succesfully. I could even see the tables and its data.
I could even get the website running. My web config file properly specifies the sql server and database. Here is the webconfig file line..
<add name="AppointmentBooking" connectionString="Data Source=DESKTOPDESKTOP;Initial Catalog=AppointDB;User ID=***;Password=********;Trusted_Connection = yes"
But when I try the register operation, I get following error. Any suggestions...???

I have SQL Server 2000, and a mix of workstations running XP Pro and 2000.I have several Excel reports that link via ODBC to SQL. My 2000 machines link up fine; however my XP machine get the following error: "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - could not open connection to SQL Server)" Again, I do not have SQL Server 2005, and I only get this message from XP Machines (with Firewalls DISABLED). Once we click OK on the error, it updates anyway. The ODBC driver for SQL Server is 2000.85.1117.00 on our XP machines. ANY ideas would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!TIA,Krista

I recently re-formated my personal server and installed SQL Server 2005 on it instead of 2000 which I previously used.
Now, I have imported the databases to the new SQL Server 2005, but I seem to get the following error when trying to access the database (from my asp.net page)
I've googled and searched the forum, without any luck. Now I was hoping for someone to answer this question, or perhaps guide me in the right direction.
Note: I've tried 5-6 different solutions that I found on the net, in vain.

My site works fine in VWD2008 express, but I get this error when I try to use it on my live website.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277 I am supposed to:
1.
Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
Ok, there is no such program in this folder. The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"...
The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.

Note: We have our own users in OS as wel as in SQL SERVER .

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,I have SQL Server Express Edition. I tried working out some ASP.NET Labs in my local system. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)I tried working out solutions from various websites. But the no solution is effective. Could anyone help me in solving this issue.

I configured a database mirroring on SQL server 2008 R2 on test environment. However It was not working, after some time. I deleted the mirroring configuration and also deleted database on both primary and mirror instance.
few days later I notices, On Primary, Continuous error events logged with message "database mirroring attempt by user 'domainservice account' failed with error 'connection handshake failed, 'domainservice account' does not have permission on the endpoint state 84.
I want to get rid of this message.
