ADS Opens Folder On Users PC When Active Sync Connects

View 7 RepliesIs there anyway to disable this functionality?
View 7 RepliesHi there,
Is it possible to, somehow, get a specific users password from active directory? The reason I ask is that I am writing a new system and really don't want the users having to remember yet another password, but rather be able to use there network password? I would like to write the logon section myself and not use any built in functions that anything may have.
Please can someone advise. I don't think it is possible but have been asked to persue the issue.
Thanks

Hello,I need a permanent synchronization between the "Active Directory" and the UserTable in my WebApp.I think a good solution for my interface can I realize with the "Stored Procedures" in SQL Server 2005. Is this the right way?I can create a Stored Procedure and a AD-Reader separately, that's no problem. But how I can import the "System.DirectoryServices"-Assembly in my Stored Procedure?Or is there an other solution? Thanks a lot!NussyStar*

I currently use Access and have found that I need to migrate to SQL Server. I need setting it up.
Currently, I have multiple computers (home, office, laptop, etc.). On each of these computers, I have a folder which syncs via Dropbox. In this folder, I have my Access database which allows me to read/write to the Access database from any computer, and these changes are automatically synced to all the other computers via Dropbox.
I have installed the SQL Server database in the Dropbox folder then installed Management Studio on each computer. But only the computer which did the database install can link to the the SQL Server database. The other Management Studios cannot see the database.
Is there a way to achieve what I am after or is this a limitation of SQL Server? I do not want to have to manage a network or anything.
I neet save user login form active direcotry to databases. How I can make that?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHi,
The Report Manager portal has many folders. For each folder there are specific users with different roles.
I am trying to figure out the way to extract User, folder wise security data. I want to run a query and retrieve users name, the folders they have access to and the user role corresponding to that folder.
Use ReportServer
SELECT u.UserName, r.RoleName FROM users u, policyuserrole pur, roles r
WHERE pur.UserID=u.UserID AND pur.RoleID=r.RoleID
The above query fetches all the users and their roles.
The folder information corresponds to Path column of Catalog table. Am unable link this table with the above query.
TIA
I know how to look at active users from Enterprise Manager, but how can I query out the information - what table is that info stored in ??? I don't want a list of all the logins, I just want the list of active users....
Help... thanks in advance,
Nancy
My insert statement for #Data - I only need to process each @EmployeeID one time, which is why I thought a loop would be sufficient, but I let this process run for 2 hrs and it still had not completed, so I feel I must have set-up something incorrectly!
This is my syntax, I am creating a table of active users, then wanting to get data for each of those active users. But only get the data for each active user 1 time.
Declare @EmployeeID varchar(50)
CREATE TABLE #ActiveUsers
(
ID INT IDENTITY NOT NULL
,EmployeeID varchar(50)
,processed int
)
Create Table #Data

Hi there, I have the following setup in the report manager:
Root
|_ Sales
|_ Sales Export
|_ Marketing
|_ Production
|_ etc...
Now, I know that I can access each folder (f.e. Sales) by directly putting it into the URL. Is there a possibility to enable every user to the root folder and then denying access on specific folders? F.e.: Our Head of Sales should be able to navigate to the root folder and then dcecide whether he wants to enter the Sales or the Sales Export folder.
Is this possible? I tried a few things, but nothing works.
Thanks in advance!
Running SQL Server 2005 x64 Enterprise on Windows Server 2003 X64 Enterprise and I am getting the error below when I add users to the permissions on the SRS HOME folder with browser rights.
Response is not well-formed XML. (System.Web.Services)
Unexpected end of file has occurred. The following elements are not closed: Message, MoreInformation, detail, soap:Fault, soap:Body, soap:Envelope. Line 11 position 30230. (System.Xml)
I need to add more users to reporting services and have never experienced this before.
I am looking to write a script that would give the list of all active users in a database with their privileges.
Sample would look something like this.
Login User Schema IsdbOwner canWrite canRead
xyz xyz dbo N Y Y
How does one Determine the number of Active users logged into a SQL Server Database?
I want to use the info to control concurrent licensing for my Application
Hi,
I'm trying to extract all the users and their membership to groups, and the membership of groups to groups from active directory though a link to server.
I can get the users. I can get the groups.... individually.
I can't get the info of what user is a member of or who are members of a group.
Anyone know how to do this or am I going to have to right a vb app? (Anyone already got the code...)
I want to load this data into tables for reporting in my Data Warehouse.
Cheers
Chris
I am in a project where we are using a vanillla Reporting Services 2005 with the builtin report portal. No sharepoint integration yet.
We have successful deployments where we limit access to different folders based on AD-accounts and groups. In this particular case I have a folder for which I would like to allow access to all AD-users within the entire company.
So basically I know how to limit access but I don't know how to enable access for everyone. Is there a simple way to do it? I have googled and search mshelp but I couldn't find anything. I will admit to the search being quite quick but as usual time is short.
I am working on the security model for an application that will be used by 100s of users with a dedicated SQL 2005 database for this application and access via SQL XML Web Services.
The client has asked to make it "open" during alpha testing such that anyone can access the web services without having to set them up first. Is there a way to do this? The best I can figure is to use mixed mode security and hard code a login and password. Any method using Windows authentication would require that I add every user at a minimum to the database.
In production, all users will have an active directory role specified that determines if they should have access to the web services or not. However, it is my understanding that to use Windows authentication, I would still need to add each individual user at a minimum as a Login to the SQL Server, and under best practices also as database users with permissions granted to the endpoint.
Am I correct in the above, or is there a more efficient way to achieve these results?
Thanks

Any help would be apprecaited....

Is there a way to copy reports from other users "My reports" folder? I am logging onto the management studio reporting services using an administrative account and I am able to view the reports from all users' "My Reports" folder. But I am not able to export them as an rdl file. I am able to export reports from other common folders, but not from the "My Reports" folder.
The reason I need to do this is some of the users have created some reports in one environment and the reports are available in their respective "My Reports" folder. I need to move these reports to their corresponding "My Reports" folder in another environment.
Is there a way to do this?
Thanks for your help.
I have the Function, that fires from onLoad even of one of the asp:Label controls on my main page.
Here is it's code:
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(); conn.ConnectionString = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["UkraineConnectionString"].ToString(); SqlCommand comm = new SqlCommand("SELECT [Greeting] FROM [Misc]", conn);
try { conn.Open(); } catch { Response.Write("Error opening connection in Page_Load of default.aspx to retrieve the greetings"); }
string MyGreet = (string)comm.ExecuteScalar();
Greetings.Text = MyGreet;
try { conn.Close(); } catch { Response.Write("Error closing connection in Page_Load of default.aspx after retrieving the greetings"); } }
When it gests to conn.Open() in the debugging mode I see that the ServerVersion = 'conn.ServerVersion' threw an exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException'.
The most interesting thing is that it used to work before.
Here is the connection string it retrieves fine.
"Data Source=MDM1;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Ukraine.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"
As I said it used to work, but one day I tried to access the web site and it said this error that I get, that the connection is closed. Then I was using the SQL Server Express. When in the Visual studio if I would run this same site in debug, everything was working fine. I decided to uninstall the SQL Express and installed the SQL Server.
If I open the SQL Server Managment Studio in the Server name field I see MDM1(this is the name of the PC, but probably it is the same name for the Server. Well, in the MAnagment Studio it conects fine to the MDM1 so it is no probably the naming problem. Ithink it has something to do with permisssions.
If someon can - please help. Thanks.
Hello,I have a C++ / MFC app which uses CDatabase and CRecordset to connect to aODBC data source for a SQL Server 7 database. The application workedproperly with a MySQL database, but after swapping it for SQL Serverproblems emerged. In particular, any calls to CRecordset::AddNew() andCRecordset::Edit() cause an exception to be thrown with the error message"Recordset is read-only". Stepping through the code for CRecordset::Open(),I can see that it indeeds fail to open the recordset with SQL_CONCUR_ROWVERand SQL_CONCUR_LOCK, finally succeeding with SQL_CONCUR_READ_ONLY. I need tobe able to write to the db!! What is going on here??I call CRecordset::Open() with no SQL string and no options (which defaultsto full access and not read-only).I am not a SQL Server expert, but I tried playing with the config a littlebit:- The database is NOT set for read-only.- The database option "Restrict Access" is NOT selected.- I checkmarked all permissions (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, DRI)for my app's user on all tables in the db.- My connection string uses the user 'sa', which is the login name forthe user 'dbo'.In the ODBC data source config, I set authentication to SQL Serverauthentication, and accepted the default for all the other options.I haven't tried using a different class (say, CDaoRecordset) nor do I planon doing that. I really need to get this to work with CRecordset. Any helpis appreciated. Thanks,SL

Hello :
I have a report which calls another report, and I want that everything the links clickable on my reports open one new
window.
I know that there is a way of defining that C# but I managed to make it walked.
Is that you an idea to say that I want everything click on my report call another report but in a new window.
Thank's.
several months ago I briefly set up a data source, tested it and created a very simple report.
I now have an chance to get back into it and when I am at the SSRS Home page and click the button to start "Report Builder I get the yellow bar at the bottom of the page like I'm trying to open a file. It says: "Do you Want to open or save ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0_0.appliation(15.2 KB) from caholoweckyw7" and then the Open, Save and Cancel buttons. If I click open, the actual XML code behind the page appears and the application does not start. ?
The data source has been created and the connection has been tested successfully. I am running SQL Server 2012 and Windows 7 and IE 9.
I am trying to open reports through an existing application. When I click the button to run the report, the new window opens, appears to be trying to load (the windows logo in the top corner is flowing, the hourglass is present), and then stops. I am left with a blank window, no report, and no error message.
I am able to view and run the reports through the Report Server. Other users are able to run the reports through the application.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Michelle
I dont alot about sql server 2005(Express edition). For debugging purposes i want to copy the whole app_data folder(.mdf & .log files) on the production server to another folder on the same machine(or sometimes to a network folder). So when i copy and try to paste this App_data folder to a new location, i get this error message
"cannot copy ASPNETDB: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again."
After reading the above message, i close visual web developer, stop the website in IIS and stop the SQLExpress service on the server and try again but still get the same message.
So how can i make sure that all the programs accessing these database files are closed such that i'm able able to copy them to a different location.
I know a WMI event watcher can be used to watch for a new file being added to a folder. However, I need to check for new folders being added to an existing folder. I haven't been able to find a post on doing this. Is there a way in WQL to check for a new folder being added instead of a new file? I've used SQL for years, but am new to SSIS.

Ok,
I have a network folder called A
I have a SharePoint (2007) Document Library site called B. Web Client is enabled on the server and B is mapped as a Drive (let's call it Y for this discussion)
I want to move documents in A to B. Easy enough, right? Not so....
I first started by creating a batch file that issues a COPY \A \Y /Y at the command prompt. Viola! Worked Great!
I then moved that command to a SQL Agent job as a CMDExec statement (exact same statement) and attempted to run it.....CRASH! It found the files in A but then said "The system cannot find the path specified"
Ok, so I tried it in SSIS. CRASH! Checked the error log. Same thing...
So I then checked the account under which the SQl Agent was running (special domain account for all our SQL Servers). Thinking it might mater I changed it to run under my name (I'm in Domain admin). I also ensured I had permissions to the SPS 2007 library as well. (I did).
Ran again! CRASH! Same error....
So, I created a batch file , placed thec ommand in the batch file and ran that from the command prompt! Viola! Worked Great.
So, I was thinking of how ingenious I was as I pasted my C:RootCopy.bat into my SQL Agent job. With a big grin on my face I right clicked and picked "Start Job at step".......CRASH! Same error.
Does anyone have any ideas on this ???????????????
Thanks,
Stephen
I have a table with the following columns employeeSessionID, OpDate, OpHour, sessionStartTime, sessionCloseTime. I need to see how many users remain active per hour. I can calculate how many logged in per hour, but I am stumped on how to count how many are active per hour. I have a single table that stores login data. I have created a query that pulls out the only the data needed from the table into a temp table using this query. Also note it is possible that the sessionCloseTime is null if the device has not been logged out this would need to be counted a active.
TABLE NAME #empSessionLog Contains the time stamp data OpDate, sessionStartTime and sessionCloseTime.

can see how many sessions logged in per hour with the following statement:
SELECT
opDate,
FORMAT(DATEPART(HOUR, sessionStartTime), '00') AS opHour,
Count(*) AS Total
FROM #empSessionLog
Group BY opDate, FORMAT(DATEPART(HOUR, sessionStartTime), '00')
Order BY opDate, FORMAT(DATEPART(HOUR, sessionStartTime), '00') ASCResults:
opDateopHourTotal

[code]....
Where I am stuck is how do I count the sessions that remain active per hour until the session is closed with the sessionCloseTime.
Hi
I am having some teething problems while installing SQL on a 3 node cluster. Within the Cluster configuration I have 3 Cluster Groups with each of them having their associated disk resources. All these disk resources physically exist on a SAN.
The actual cluster is running absolutely fine and I can access all the disks from their respective owner node. The problem only starts when I start installing SQL Server 2005 on this cluster. I specify the Cluster group from the Cluster Group Selection and choose the desired partition and then the error message pops up
"There is not enough diskspace on the destination disk for the current SQL Server data files. To proceed, free up disk space to make room for data files, or install the data files to a different drive"
But the disk I am trying to install it on is 264Gb and none of it is used. I have also tried to change it to a different disk within the same Cluster group but to no avail. I have even tried to install it in a different cluster group all together but I get the same error message.
I have googled around havent found anything so far. The disks have got full permissions for the account I am installing SQL with.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards
Adnan
I have a set of folders with the following structure:
MainFolder
1999
SpreadsheetA.xls
SpreadsheetB.xls
SpreadsheetC.xls
2000
SpreadsheetA.xls
SpreadsheetB.xls
SpreadsheetC.xls
etc.
Is there a way that I can use the foreach loop container to loop the sub folders? My plan was to get the folder name and path into a variable, use this to build the connection string for each file in this folder, carry out the upload for that folder, then move onto the next folder and do the same thing, but I cannot see a way to do this.
Thanks,
Sam
