ASP.NET Web Application Ending With Error Before Completion Of Stored Procedure
Feb 17, 2008
Hi,
I have a simple web application which calls a stored procedure. The stored procedure operates as a transaction and runs for several minutes. I've created a partial class to set the SQLcommand timeout property to avoid any timeouts, which works fine. Unfortunately though, when the application is run in the production environment, it ends in an error after a certain amount of time (maybe a couple of minutes - not exactly sure), which seems to be the same each run. It doesn't appear to end the stored procedure though, which results in locking the tables. It runs fine in the development environment, and it doesn't appear as though any error information is provided when the application crashes.
I'm assuming that the ASP.NET application is timing out for some reason, but the stored procedure itself is fine. I can run it directly from SQL server without any dramas. In the Virtual Directory configuration within IIS, I have the script timeout period set to 1200 seconds. The Default Web-Site timeout property is set to 120 seconds, but I'm assuming that this is only for internet connection timeout, not database transaction timeouts.
Any information as to what may be causing this is appreciated.
I've read Remus' article on Fire and Forget tactics when it comes to ending conversations, and I have to admit I am guilty of sending a message to a service and immediately ending the conversation. I've set up a stored procedure to end the conversation on the initiator queue, but I'm guessing it's never being fired because I am not ending the conversation in the target activated stored proc, which is a CLR stored proc.
Can you tell me how to end the conversation from a CLR stored proc?
Now that I think of it none of the code I use in my TSQL activated stored procs to handle different message types and error-checking is done in the CLR stored proc.
Hi,I am developing application in asp.net 2.0 using C#. My back end is sql server 2005. I also use microsoft enterprise library 2006.My problem is:First i pass three parameters to stored procedure from the application. After i increase one more parameter in both application as well as stored procedure, the application gives an error that parameter does not match with the stored procedures parameters.after couple of hours when i restart the machine and again run the application it works fine with four parameters.does sql server 2005 stores the parameters in cache??
I have a stored procedure that works when executed in query analyzer. (It is also way too long to post here) When called from my application ado.net returns the error:
Invalid object name #idTable
If I run the proc in query analyzer using the same parameters (copied from quickwatch while debugging) there is no error.
While very complicated, this procedure runs quickly so timing out is not an issue.
Does anyone know why a proc would run in query analyzer and not in an asp.net/c# application?
ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.usp_Create_Fact_Job (@startDate date, @endDate date) AS /*--Debug--*/ --DECLARE @startDate date --DECLARE @endDate date
--SET @startDate = '01 APR 2014' --SET @endDate = '02 APR 2014' ; /*-- end of Debug*/ WITH CTE_one AS ( blah blah blah)
SELECT a whole bunch of fields from the joined tables and CTEs...When I run the code inside the stored procedure by Declaring and setting the start and enddates manually the code runs in 4 minutes (missing some indexes ).When I call the stored procedure with the ExEC
It never returns a results set but doesn't error out either. I have left it for 40 minutes and still no joy.The sproc is reasonably complicated; 6 CTEs to find the most recent version of records and some 2 joins to parent tables (parent and grandparent), 3 joins to child tables (child, grandchild and great grandchild) and 3 joins to lookup views each of which self references a table to filter for last version of a record.
But now I am getting error "General Network Error. Check your network documentation" after specifying Use existing stored procedure in TableAdpater Configuration Wizard.
ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.Insert_MailSignature( @Singnature image )
AS
SET NOCOUNT OFF;
INSERT INTO MailsSignature (Singnature) VALUES (@Singnature);
SELECT Id, Singnature FROM MailsSignature WHERE (Id = SCOPE_IDENTITY())
For testing I created a desktop application and found that the same Code, same(Use existing stored procedure in TableAdpater Configuration Wizard) and same stored procedure is working fine in inserting image into the table.
I have an ODBC/C program and I want to call the stored proceduressp_addlogin and sp_adduser in it. Can someone please provide me withsome sample code showing the best way to do this.
Hey all, I've got a question and after doing some research I've found only a vague reference but no clear answer.
I have a java app that will be passing parameters to my stored procedure. I'll grab the requested info from the tables but instead of sending it back to the java app that sent the request, I need to send it to a "different" java app (the second java app will not be running at the time).
Can someone point me to a good source for executing java applications from a stored procedure?
Hi,In SQL Books Online in the section on @@Error it gives the followingexample:-- Execute the INSERT statement.INSERT INTO authors(au_id, au_lname, au_fname, phone, address,city, state, zip, contract) values(@au_id,@au_lname,@au_fname,@phone,@address,@city,@state,@zip,@contract)-- Test the error value.IF @@ERROR <> 0BEGIN-- Return 99 to the calling program to indicate failure.PRINT "An error occurred loading the new author information"RETURN(99)ENDELSEBEGIN-- Return 0 to the calling program to indicate success.PRINT "The new author information has been loaded"RETURN(0)ENDGOHow do I access the value returned by the RETURN statement (i.e. 99 or0) in my asp application that called the stored proc.Sometimes rather than just return an integer signifying success orfailure I've seen examples where the id of the newly added item isreturned on success and perhaps -1 if the operation fails. Theseexamples make use of ouput parameters to achieve this. If theoperation succeeds then then the output parameters value is set to thenew id and this is accessed from the calling application.E.g.IF @@ERROR <> 0BEGIN-- Return -1 to the calling program to indicate failure.PRINT "An error occurred loading the new author information"SELECT @MyOuptputParameter = -1ENDELSEBEGIN-- Return id to the calling program to indicate success.PRINT "The new author information has been loaded"SELECT @MyOuptputParameter = @@IDENTITYENDWhy go to this trouble if you can use the RETURN statement?
I am searching for some information on achieving performance improvement by spawning multiple threads in single Stored procedure or rather say within Single Database connection. We have a batch process that updates around 200 tables and each table update takes around 2 mnts. I am trying to optimize this by running these updates in parallel rather than sequential. These all tables are mutually exclusive. I have written a stored procedure which updates these tables in loop. Concern is that every update statement waits for other to get over. I am calling this Sp from Java application. One crude way will be opening multiple connections to database each running separate T-SQL statement. It comes with lot of overhead in opening connections .Is there any way I can force explicitly in T-SQL stored procedure to spawn a new thread for every Update statement. In case I try to do same process from a Java connection.. is there a way I can open multiple threads for each statement under same database connection.
Hello, i have a problem regarding stored procedures and view server state.
I have an application with a lot of stored procedures, one of them checks data of the connected users. In SQL 2000 i had no problem getting this information, but in SQL server 2005 i do.
my stored procedure looks like this:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dba].[applsp_GetConnectionInfo]
(
@DBName varchar(100)
)
WITH EXECUTE AS OWNER AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON
DECLARE @sCollationMaster VARCHAR(128);
DECLARE @sSqlString VARCHAR(900);
-- Determine collation from master database because collation from master and ultimo database may differ
SELECT @sCollationMaster = CAST(databasepropertyex('master', 'Collation') AS VARCHAR);
SET @sSqlString =
'SELECT max(status) AS Status, max(isnull(SCISUSENAME, ''ULTIMOLOGIN'')) AS Login
, MAX(Rtrim(Rtrim(convert(varchar(255), nt_domain)) + nt_username)) AS NTUser
, max(Rtrim(hostname)) AS Host, MAX(Rtrim(program_name)) AS Program
FROM master.dbo.sysprocesses JOIN dba.SCONNECTIONINFO on SCISPID = CAST(spid AS VARCHAR)
AND ( SCISUSENAME = ISNULL(loginame, '''') COLLATE ' + @sCollationMaster + ' OR ISNULL(loginame, '''') = ''ULTIMOLOGIN'')
WHERE ...... AND DB_NAME(dbid) = ''' + @DBName + '''
GROUP BY hostprocess
ORDER BY Login
';
EXEC(@sSqlString);
END
I've granted view server state permissions to my user 'dba' which is the db_owner. When i execute the query in the stored procedure seperatly as dba i get all the info i need, but when i execute the stored procedure i don't see anything.
I seem to have the same problem with sp_who2 Executing it gives me information about everyone but when i put in a stored procedure like this:
Can someone help me with this issue? I am trying to update a record using a sp. The db table has an identity column. I seem to have set up everything correctly for Gridview and SqlDataSource but have no clue where my additional, phanton arguments are being generated. If I specify a custom statement rather than the stored procedure in the Data Source configuration wizard I have no problem. But if I use a stored procedure I keep getting the error "Procedure or function <sp name> has too many arguments specified." But thing is, I didn't specify too many parameters, I specified exactly the number of parameters there are. I read through some posts and saw that the gridview datakey fields are automatically passed as parameters, but when I eliminate the ID parameter from the sp, from the SqlDataSource parameters list, or from both (ID is the datakey field for the gridview) and pray that .net somehow knows which record to update -- I still get the error. I'd like a simple solution, please, as I'm really new to this. What is wrong with this picture? Thank you very much for any light you can shed on this.
I am building a stored procedure that changes based on the data that is available to the query. See below. The query fails on line 24, I have the line highlighted like this. Can anyone point out any problems with the sql?

have SQL Server 2005 std edition SP1 installed on Windows 2003 Std edition .Configured Transactional (single Publisher and no clustered environment.) Replication past two months working fine, Now 1.Distrib.exe application err is coming.
Due to which my job is failing (Distributor to Subscriber). Iam attaching thw file. Thanks Sandeep
i have migrated a DTS package wherein it consists of SQL task.
this has been migrated succesfully. but when i execute the package, i am getting the error with Excute SQL task which consists of Store Procedure excution.
But the SP can executed in the client server. can any body help in this regard.
Just wonder whether is there any indicator or system parameters that can indicate whether stored procedure A is executed inside query analyzer or executed inside application itself so that if execution is done inside query analyzer then i can block it from being executed/retrieve sensitive data from it?
What i'm want to do is to block someone executing stored procedure using query analyzer and retrieve its sensitive results. Stored procedure A has been granted execution for public user but inside application, it will prompt access denied message if particular user has no rights to use system although knew public user name and password. Because there is second layer of user validation inside system application.
However inside query analyzer, there is no way control execution of stored procedure A it as user knew the public user name and password.
Looking forward for replies from expert here. Thanks in advance.
Note: Hope my explaination here clearly describe my current problems.
Hi, somebody can tell me how to create a correct Stored procedure (with commit and rollback) that return errors to my code for save it in a log file .... I would like to know the right method for a SP with parameters and return error value Thanks
hi, i want to take the first n values from my Categorii table, here is my stored procedure: SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY CategoryID) AS RowNumber, CategoryID, Name, Description FROM Categorii WHERE DepartamentID = @DepartamentID AND RowNumber <= 5 i get the error: invalid column name RowNumber why? what should i do? if i execute the procedure without the AND RowNumber <= 5 i get the RowNumber values 1 to 9 (that means it works)...but what should i do to retrive only the first n? thank you
I've a stored procedure which returns values based on 7 criterias. It was working fine and returned the values properly. I added one more criteria for returning values from 2 database columns based on minimum and maximum values. It's not working properly and gives syntax error. I am using SQL Server 2005 and wrote a stored procedure as shown below.CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetUsers]( @StartRowIndex INT, @MaximumRows INT, @SortExpression VARCHAR(50))ASBEGIN DECLARE @SQL VARCHAR(1000); DECLARE @Start VARCHAR(10); SET @Start = CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), @StartRowIndex + 1); DECLARE @End VARCHAR(10); SET @End = CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), @StartRowIndex + @MaximumRows); SET @SQL = ' WITH Data AS( SELECT UserID, Username, FirstName, LastName, ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY ' + @SortExpression + ') AS RowNumber FROM Users) SELECT UserID, Username, FirstName, LastName FROM Data WHERE RowNumber BETWEEN ' + @Start + ' AND ' + @End EXEC(@SQL);ENDIn VS 2005, I am using a DataSet. Then I created an ObjectDataSource which binds the GridView control. However, I am getting the following error: Incorrect syntax near ')'After playing around with it, the error is from the line:ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY ' + @SortExpression + ') AS RowNumber FROM Users)If I change the line to ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY UserID') AS RowNumber FROM Users) it works fine, except for sorting.I dont understand what I might be doing wrong.
I am writing a stored procedure where I am adding a column to a table, doing some manipulation using the new column and then deleting the column. The problem is when I try to save the stored procedure, it gives me an error because it cannot find the new field on the table. How can I tell SQL to not compile a section or whole stored procedure?
