I'm using ASP pages to access a Microsoft SQL 2005 SP1 database server for information that populates dropdown menus. I ran into an interesting problem. We can query all existing data without a problem (all expected rows return and correctly populate the dropdowns).
I manually add a new row to the database table for a dropdown. I can manually query the database from the SQL2005 management tool, and the new records are included in the results.
I load the ASP page, and the newly added records never appear in the dropdown... only the old, existing data.
What could cause this? The queries from ASP are the same as the queries I make directly from the SQL server.
Hello again sorry to bother again but I am hvaing difficulty setting up the SQL server 2005. I have downloaded and installed the following
.Net Framework 2.0 Serv Pack 1 MS SQL server 2005 MS SQL server Native Client MS SQL server Setup support MS SQL server VSS Writer AdventureWorksDB.msi as a sample database i believe
When I want to launch the program I point to Programs, that dispplays MS SQL Server 2005 which displays Configurations Tools which when pointed displays 1) SQL Server Configuration manager (has the icon with little hammer and folder whatever it is, 2) SQL Server Error and Usage reporting 3) SQL server surface area configuration None of them is letting me to open a screen to see any tables and write a query.
I can get list of the offices and amount of all the clients like this:
SELECT office.name, COUNT(client.id) AS all FROM office INNER JOIN representative ON representative.office = office.id INNER JOIN client ON client.representative = representative.id group by office.name
But I just can't get my head around how to get rest of the information I want. If anyone has any suggestions how to proceed from here, I would be grateful.
I am having some problems wit a form where i need to insert a record into a table and then get the id of the record i just inserted and use it to insert a record in another table for a many to many relationship. The code is below (I cut out as much as i could to make it more readable). The erro message i get is this: Error saving file ATLPIXOFC.txt Reason: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Prepared statement '(@FileName varchar(13),@ i' expects parameter @FileID, which was not supplied. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.FinishExecuteReader(SqlDataReader ds, RunBehavior runBehavior, String resetOptionsString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Microvit_Document_Product_Document_Add_v2.insertDocumentToDB() in e:inetpubwwwrootMicrovitDocumentProduct_Document_Add_v2.aspx.vb:line 127 at Microvit_Document_Product_Document_Add_v2.btnInsert_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) in e:inetpubwwwrootMicrovitDocumentProduct_Document_Add_v2.aspx.vb:line 37

We would like to Share the BatchJobs functionality before going to the difficulties what we are facing in SSIS package Design and it's implementation.
BatchFile Process Steps:
1.Flat File is coming from the upstream server(DB2 main Frame Server) to the linux box in which the jobs are scheduled using crons.
2.The Flat file is validated whether having header and trailer information. The flat file name itself (eg. APPLWIC00077.dat ) will have it's sequence number ie 00077.This number will be checked against Flat file Header information Which also gives the sequence number information .If both number matches,The Loading will be initiated.Same way checking happens with Trailer. If anything goes wrong, mail will be sent and Loading will not happen.
3.The Job will process the coming flat file and Loading it into SQL Server Staging Table.
4.If loading is successful, then Some Sql server Procedure are called to validate the Staging Table Data,Filters, then move the Data from Staging table to Target table.
5.All Process or Steps are tracked,If anything goes wrong,Mail will be sent to Concerned Person.
Utilities Involved:
1. SQL Loader to Load the FlatFile Data into the SQL Server 2005 Database.
2. SQLPLUS to execute the PL/SQL procedures.
3. SENDMAIL or MAILX to send mails to externals.
Additional Information:
The SQL Loader Control File Splits the flatfile data by Position wise in order to load it into the particular column of the Staging Table. No column delimiters.Data are taken position wise (like column1 -> Sequence No , 1-3 -> column2 , 4-8 -> column2 )and checked against a condition By which the particular Staging Table is selected.
Difficulties We face in migration in regard to SSIS Package Design and it's Implementation:
1. We could Receive the flat file using FTP Task and we don't know how to open and validate the flat file data Like What we mentioned in STEP 2.
2. We could load the sample flat file which is properly delimited like {CR}{LF} ,{CR},{LF},semi -colon,comma,colon,tab,vertical bar .
If flatfile is messed up and data need to be processed by position wise (Scenario mentioned in Additional Information) ,We don't know how to implement this in SSIS package with the Limited delimiter option given.
FYI : Flat File columns are not fixed and ragged type.
3. We need logging information like howmany rows inserted, discarded, something in detail..How can we log these information using SSIS.This will help to send detailed mail to Application handler. It should be automated using SSIS.
4. How can we execute Procedures Using available SSIS tasks ( Executing many Procedures which is residing in Sql server 2005 using Single sql file as input to SSIS package)
Has anyone gotten clustering to work via the Cluster Wizard in SP5a?
I've got two ProLiant 5500's with the Compaq Clustering S/100 option. I've done a fresh install of NT Enterprise 4.0 SP3, then installed clustering with the Compaq S/100 drivers... everything fails over nicely, can make shares off the virtual server, etc. I then install SQL Server 6.5 EE, then apply SP5a -- so far, so good.
Now I try to run the clustering wizard. The wiz prompts me for my SA password. I enter it, and it gives me a message box that it can't start or log onto the database... but when I look in the event log it appears to have logged on successfully with a Non-trusted connection.
I'm trying to re-write my database to de-couple the interface (MS Access) from the SQL Backend. As a result, I'm going to write a number of Stored Procedures to replace the MS Access code. My first attempt worked on a small sample, however, trying to move this on to a real table hasn't worked (I've amended the SP and code to try and get it to work on 2 fields, rather than the full 20 plus). It works in SQL Management console (supply a Client ID, it returns all the client details), but does not return anything (recordset closed) when trying to access via VBA code. The Stored procedure is:-
USE [VMSProd] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [Clients].[vms_Get_Specified_Client] Script Date: 22/09/2015 16:29:59 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
I have a client who has SSMS installed on her laptop. She is able to connect to the SQL server via SSMS in the office and query data on the server.
She needs to be out of site often and doesn't have internet access. She asks if the data tables can be "backed up" or saved on her laptop, so she can look at them without worrying connecting to the server. I am not sure if this can be achieved, as SSMS is built for accessing a server, not a desktop. Myself never have this need. If I really need it, I would go to Microsoft Access and create an ODBC connection to the datatables. But this client thinks that Microsoft Access is beneath her.
Finding the "pieces of information" I need to successfully install the SQL Server Express edition is so complex. Uninstalls do "not" really uninstall completely, leading to failure of SQL install. Can you suggest a thorough, one-stop site for directions for the order of app uninstalls and then the order for app installs for the following...
SQL Server Express edition
Visual Studios 2005
Jet 4.0 newest upgrade
.Net Framework 2.0 (or should I use 3.0)
VS2005 Security upgrade
Anything else I need for just creating a database for my VS2005 Visual Basic project?
I was trying to use MS Access as my backend db but would like to try SQL Express
I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.
We need to insert data/rows from a SQL Server 2014 database into MS Access database. The problem is, there are so many columns (100+) in the table and there are so many insert transactions of this kind (from different tables) that it is not very easy to write the code in VB.NET that lists all column names.
Both the Access and SQL Server tables have the same number of columns and the equivalent data types, so inserting is not really the problem. It's just that is there a way to do an insert statement in T-SQL that does not name all the columns?
I've been developing desktop client-server and web apps and have used Access and SQL Server Standard most of the time. I'm looking into using SQL CE, and had a few questions that I can't seem to get a clear picture on:
- The documentation for CE says that it supports 256 simultaneous connections and offers the Isolation levels, Transactions, Locking, etc with a 4GB DB. But most people say that CE is strictly a single-user DB and should not be used as a DB Server. Could CE be extended for use as a multi-user DB Server by creating a custom server such as a .NET Remoting Server hosted through a Windows Service (or any other custom host) on a machine whereby the CE DB would run in-process with this server on the machine which would then be accessed by multiple users from multiple machines?? Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE
- and further more can we use Enterprise Services (Serviced Components) to connect to SQL CE and further extend this model to offer a pure high-quality DB Server? Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> Enterprise Services -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE
Seems quite doable to me, but I may be wrong..please let me know either ways
When i am trying to start our hospital software based on SQL server 2000, it shows Following Error.Search Condition is not valid, (DBNETLIB) Connection Open (connect()). SQL server does not exist or excess denied. Due to Fetch data.I run our software in Windows 8.1, while it smothly runs in previous version of Windows XP and 7.
When I execute the below stored procedure I get the error that "Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type int".
USE [FileSharing] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[xlaAFSsp_reports] Script Date: 24.07.2015 17:04:10 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO
[Code] .....
Msg 8115, Level 16, State 2, Procedure xlaAFSsp_reports, Line 25 Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type int. The statement has been terminated. (1 row(s) affected)
is there a step by step paper to get there? here is what i need to consider. I Iwill have many customers that will need their own set of records and access pages "branded for their company" each customer will have many clients. I am hosting this application on a windows 2003 server with SQL 2005 server enterprise.
I am using windows authentication, I have created a username in windows, then i added the windows user in SQL management studio in security, granted "DB Read" and "DB write" and again under the database security tab. still from the web authentication fails. i must be nissing a step or two?
I expect to set up a username for each database as i setup new customers.
HiI'm having problems following the tutorial on creating a data access layer - http://www.asp.net/learn/dataaccess/tutorial01cs.aspx?tabid=63 - when I try to compile in Visual Studio 2005 I get namespace could not be found. I followed exactly the tutorial - I created a dataset and added this code in my aspx page. <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" CssClass="DataWebControlStyle"> <HeaderStyle CssClass="HeaderStyle" /> <AlternatingRowStyle CssClass="AlternatingRowStyle" />In my C# file I added these lines... using NorthwindTableAdapters; <<<<<this is the problem - where does this come from? protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { ProductsTableAdapter productsAdapter = new ProductsTableAdapter(); GridView1.DataSource = productsAdapter.GetProducts(); GridView1.DataBind(); }Thanks in advance
I'm currently working on a BI architecture for a customer, and consider to propose the Power BI data catalog as a data distribution layer. The customer will use Power BI, but also has other BI tools.
Are data sets in the data catalog available to other clients than Power Query alone? E.g. are there OData feed endpoints available? If not, what would be the best way to give other tools access to the data?
I have two database(MYDB1 , MYDB2) on two different server's(SERVER1 , SERVER2) . I want to create an store procedure in MYDB1 on SERVER1 and get some data from a table of MYDB2 on SERVER2. How can i do this?
I'm using a legacy application built using VB5 and SQL Server 7. After recompiling it, and putting the database in SQL Server 2012. I want to access the current login user using the SQL function SUSER_SNAME().
This is the code.
Set rdoRes = goDatabase.Connection.OpenResultset("select suser_sname()")
But I'm unable to get the current user login in the application. If I write any other SQL statement instead of this, then it runs. But only this statement is not running. Is there any security reasons for this?
I have a table that is returning rows from a table query. It seems I have done it before but I cannot seem to get the right procedure to obtain the values. I will paste in the code below in which you will see my bad attempts at accomplishing what I need.
Dim uid As String Dim pw As String Dim em As String, fn, ln, mi As String Dim par As String Dim Field, n, j As Integer Dim JJ As Integer
how I can load the CSV file data into the sql server table. I know there are ways like bulk insert and other to load the csv file data into the table. But in my case the table doesn't exist and has to be created at the run time. With simple insert in temp table we do like select * into #temp from tablename and that creates the temp table. So. I need something like that which create the temp table and load the data into it. because the CSV file would have different number of columns and names so I can not create the table structure in advance. I have to create the table at run time.
I have an MVC asp.net application that stores many records in a table on sql server, in its own system. used the system for 2 months, worked fine accessing, changing data.
Now that other users are logging in? there is cross coupling going on. one user gets the data from another users sql search.
In the mvc app it had used the get async method to read the ID record from the db, i set that to synchronous. no effect; the user makes their own login id but that does nt matter either.
I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file. After importing a data into the mdb file, above column data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?
Aaarrgghhhhhhh, still searchin' for a nice step-by-step article to learn data access (all insert delete update commands) with the SQL Server .NET Data Provider found in [System.Data.SqlClient] namespace....
While run time these values are lets suppose @SSN = '999-000-000' & @State='ABC'
Now the Result is displayed with the state data Like 'AB' only.
Output: 1 999-000-000 AB
instead it should give system generated error.
Here I have 2 Questions: 1. Why it is taking 1st 2 Charecters? 2. Why it does not have any system generated for length?
I can do validation with Length function for these 2 variables however if have 100 variables then it should not feasible case. So, what is the reason behind?
I have a view that give me the data of all the batched. Now I am using a query on view to get a single batched data. when I am using direct query it was taking 0 sec but when I am using Through view "select * from myView where batched=2" then its taking 30 mnt.
We have a daily process, which copies millions of rows of data from one DB to another over Linked Server. Just checking on the best practise, are there more efficient ways than the Linked server to copy millions of rows of data from one DB to another? I checked bulk insert but that transfers the data from the file to DB not DB to DB.
Can anyone tell me how to access data from Stored Procedures using data adapters? My task is to select a row which is valid with data particular value. Suppose i had to get all values of particular user after validating username and password. Can anyone give me some hint regarding store procedure and retriving data from stored procedure using data adapters ? How can i bind data to dropdownbox of one field in the table using datasets and data adapters? How can i insert data in database using data adapters? Can any one solve this?
I have a scenarios where if I execute select * from tbl it should display the all the records without waiting to release any lock. For example suppose I have one table called tbl and one session is updating one records and not committed yet and in other session if i execute select * from table I can see all the records, for that records it can show me older version. but my select statement should not wait to commit another session and also it should not show the modified data.
I'm new to sql server. Last week I made my first cube. Everything went fine. But when I want to explore the cube (from the explore panel in Visual Studio 2012) in Excel then I'm getting the error "Initialization of the data source failed".
Check your database server or contact your database administrator. Make sure the external database is available, and then try the operation again. If you see this message again, create a new datasource to connect to the database.
I'm using Sql Server 2012. Visual studio 2012. Excel 2013 on Windows 10
