ASP Only Shows Fields Which Contain Numeric Data
Jan 4, 2004
Hi
I'm using an SQL server database to run a website with ASP.
A new page I'm making will only display the contents on fields containing numeric data and it won't display text.
Other pages work fine. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening - I've never seen in before.

I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.
I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.
For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.
When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.
Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Sirisha

I'm attempting to use the isnull function to convert null values in a column to a blank. It works on the alpha field but not the numeric and I was wondering what can be done for numeric field conversion.

when I run below query I got Error of Arithmetic overflow error converting numeric to data type numeric
declare @a numeric(16,4)
set @a=99362600999900.0000
The 99362600999900 value before numeric is 14 and variable that i declared is of 16 length. Then why this error is coming ? When I set Length 18 then error removed.

Guys
I'm getting the above when trying to populate a variable. The values in question are :
@N = 21
@SumXY = -1303765191530058.2251000000
@SumXSumY = -5338556963168643.7875000000
When I run, SELECT (@N * @SumXY) - (@SumXSumY * @SumXSumY) in QA I get the result OK which is -28500190448996439680147097583285.072256 ie 32 places to left of decimal and 6 to the right
When I try the following ie to populate a variable with that value I get the error -
SELECT R2Top = (@N * @SumXY) - (@SumXSumY * @SumXSumY)@R2Top is NUMERIC (38, 10)
Any ideas ??

Hi,
This may seem like a simple question to be asking but Im not the most experienced working with DTS loads and can't understand (don't know) why my load is failing.
I am trying to load in a text file comma separated into a table I have created.
It consists of only 5 entries
01 - varchar (20)
02 - smalldatetime
03 - smalldatetime
04 - numeric Scale (1)
05 - numeric Scale (1)
Here are the first two lines from my file,
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRS1,02/02/2005,05/02/2005,0,1
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRS2,01/02/2005/06/02/2005,1,1
As far as I can se it should be working but it gives me the error:
The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified.
TransformCopy 'DTSTransformation_4'conversion error: General conversion failure on column pair (source column 'Col004(DBTYPE_STR), destination column 'Result1' (DBTYPE_NUMERIC)).
Help.
Can't figure out whats going on so any ideas would be useful.
Cheers.

Friends,
I am attempting to concatenate two numeric type fields together with character data and the query is adding them together. I am assuming I need to convert the ints to a string type but would appreciate some info on the best way to do this...I am sure it's something simple but am not finding much on the web about it.
SELECT vehFacID + '-' + vehID AS vehNew FROM Vehicles
Returns the sum of vehFacID & vehID. Doh!

I've generated a report using Reporting Services, and some of my fields are numeric with the value zero. On generating the report this is shown as 0.00 and not 0. Is this something that is easily fixed?

Hello again
How do I sum up and group numeric values into one output column in SSIS?
I have data that looks like this:
Refno date credit amount
11675 1987-04-23 7.03 13501.27
and I want to add the credit and amount columns together and output them as one column, In T-SQL, i'd do this:
SELECT Refno, SUM(Credit + Amount)
FROM Transfer
GROUP BY Refno, Date
I could add this SQL into my SSIS package easily enough but I wan't to learn how to do it the SSIS way

If I create an index on a field in SQL Server, what will be the most efficient (fastest) field type to index a field? (This field will be a "Pointer" to a child table that will contain a list of codes, and their description.)
Would a Numeric field be quicker than a VarChar field?
VarChar would make it easier for a Human to decipher the raw records. (For example, if I used a numeric the code would be 42 or 47, while the VarChar could be 'savings' or 'checking'.)
Basically I will have the following "Master" table: FieldType
---------
IDInt
NameVarChar
StatusInt -or- VarChar
Customer_TypeInt -or- VarChar
If Customer_Type is a code that can be looked up in another table, and I index that field, would I want the "Code" to be an Int or VarChar?
SQL: Select *
From Master
Where Customer_Type = <42> or <'savings'>
My Where clause would depend on the field type.
Thank you, Bryan

I have a SQL Agent job that runs at 4:15 in the morning. The job has 5 steps, each step only runs if the preceding step succeeds. The second step, which calls an SSIS package that does the main processing, appears to finish as it goes on to the next step; however, when looking in 'View History' there are 2 entries for this step - the first one shows it as still running (Circled Green Arrow) but with a start and end time. The second entry says the job succeeded.
I have been seeing conflicts, such as deadlocks, with later jobs. I suspect this job is causing the conflicts - maybe the package is still running in the background instead of having actually completed?
what conditions a job step my be showing in the job history as both running AND completed successfully?

Hi There,
I'm using C# to get a value for a DOUBLE precision variable, called "Length", from a textBox using the following line:
Length = Convert.ToDouble( txtLength.Text )
I'm also using the following lines to prepare my stored procedure call:
arParms[9] = new SqlParameter("@Length", SqlDbType.Decimal, 5);
arParms[9].Value = record.Length;
My stored procedure has the following parameter definition:
@Length decimal(9,3)
My problem is that if someone types a value bigger than 999999 in the textbox he will get for sure the following error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Error converting data type numeric to decimal.
I don't know how to either make sql or C# to truncate the value or catch the exception to automatically assign 0 to the parameter.
Please Help.

I have a data flow that consists of
OLE DB source which calls a stored proc that returns a result set
data conversion
Excel destination
I am in design mode in Business Intelligence studio. My excel destination (with an Excel Connection) shows no sheet name though I have an execute SQL task before the data flow to create the excel table called SHEET1. Needless to say, there are no output columns visible to do any mappings. I did go to the ExcelConnection to set the OpenRowset Property to SHEET1 but it seems to have no effect.
I can do the export in SQL Server Management studio and that works fine, but it is basic and does not meet my requirements. I have to customize the package to allow dynamic Excel filenames based on account names and have to split my result set into multiple excel sheets because excel 2003 has a max of 65536 rows per sheet. Also when I use the export wizard, I have the source as a table and eventually the source has to be a stored proc with input parms.
What am I missing or doing wrong? Thanks in advance

Pardon me if this question is too elementary. I am trying to create a trigger that will cause certain datafields to be updated with values from other data fields in the same row when a certain column, created specifically to fire the trigger, is updated. The purpose of this is to reduce data entry by field personnel.I think I have the create trigger statement correct, but I'm a little confused on the update statement.
In a nutshell, how can I write something like:
UPDATE "TABLENAME"
SET DATAFIELD1 = DATAFIELD2
WHERE RECORDNUMBER = (THE SAME RECORD NUMBER)
I do know that I have to ensure that sp_dboption Recursive Triggers value is set to false, thanks.

The data type in the table is decimal with a precision set to 19 and a scale set to 2 and nothing for the default value.
I need to use updates or inserts that will allow a value of nothing or null to be inserted.
UPDATE TableName SET fldAmount = '' WHERE fldIssue = 'ABC'
But this fails because of the amount field.
This statement works, but is not good for me because 0 is not accurate.
UPDATE TableName SET fldAmount = '0' WHERE fldIssue = 'ABC'
How can I insert nothing?
Thanks

I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.
All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.
I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.
Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Manisha

Hi,
I have a lot of decimals in the flat files. So far the largest numbers map to a numeric(18,6).
My question is, is DT_NUMERIC the correct datatype for this data? In which case, what size do I need to set it? Right now it's 18. Couldn't find much info on this.
Thanks

In MS Access, for numeric fields, the decimal places shown can be defined as "Auto" meaning that the database will determine the number of decimal places to show based on the content of the field (i.e. 1.0, 0.75, 1.125).
In SQL Server for the same field, it appears that decimal precision is hard coded resulting in a fixed representation (i.e. 1.000, 0.750, 1.125)
Is there a way to make the decimal representation in SQL Server more like Access where trailing zeros are truncated?

I am trying to insert some values into a table where the column is of the data type "numeric". The insert works fine.Update does not work.
Update BUT_BREAKDOWN_PCT SET BDP_EFFORT_BREAKDOWN_PCT=0.15 WHERE BDP_BREAKDOWN_ID =1 AND BDP_PHASE_ID = 3 AND BDP_START_EFF_DT = '12/31/2004'
BDP_EFFORT_BREAKDOWN_PCT is a numeric column with a size 5 (4,3)
When I do the updatedirectly from QA, it works fine.
I was googling it and read a KB article saying it's a problem with Service Pack of SQL Server 2000. If it is, then the query should not work even from QA....isn't it?
Anyone had this problem before? Please help.
