Just installed a new version of SQL2005 on a brand new Application Server.
However, when i fired up Access 2003, it gives me some chaos about how Access isn't compatible with SQL2005. Fantastic lack of backward compatibility straight out the box.
Ok, so I do as it says and download all the updates.
Try again... Still won't allow me.
Wen't to Control Panel > Data Sources and confirmed the Native Client is in there. Added a System DSN for the new Server.
Tried Access again, still not working?? What the...
Why can't I create a new project in Access 2003, and edit it from my desktop instead of sitting on the server for every table modification? I hate designing tables on the SQL studio.
Any clues or help would be great. I'm just disappointed at the moment, on how this is holding up my database projects.
We use SQL Server 2000 on the back-end of our directory web site and ASP on the front end which works fine. However, for my own uses (since I don't create the asp and have to pay a programmer), would it be better to set up an Access 2003 project for my own data entry forms, standard reports and quick searching?
What would be the negatives of this approach. Remember, this is just for me.
I get this problem when tryoing to connect to the surface area configuration for services & connections As well as for features. However I can connect via another computer and change the options accordingly but I just can't do it locally from the server ? Does any one know why please, the links in the message don't help ?

I'm trying to run a test from my test environment which is a non-domain Windows 2000 server to access my domain 2003 with SQL2005. I have install 2005 tools to try to access the SQL server.
- I have try following the KB265808 - no success. - Reading alot of blogs and it seems all are pointing to the same problem. "Remote access" but the settign is enabled.Error Message:
TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Question: Could Windows 2003 security be blocking access? I'm using sa account to access.
Also, sa account does not seems to work for remote access. It is ok when accessing locally.
Hi,I wanted to know if Access Data Projects is a good option to choose fora SQL Server Database Frontend. The other option is C#.The database will be accessed by multiple users (around 100 users) on aLAN. ADP looks viable coz the users are used to working on a MS accessdatabase.Please post your replies with reasons as to why you think your choiceof f-end is betterCheers!
Hi,I am designing a SQL server backend, MS Access (ADP) frontendapplication and I came across an interesting problem.Lets say I have a table T with the following fields(columns)[a] (int Not Null, Primary key, Identity auto increment)[b] (uniqueidentifier, Allow Nulls)[c] (text)When I open the table in datasheet view using Access and type a valuein [c], [a] and [b] get populated automatically. [a] getting filledwith incremental integers is understandable. But, I have not set theISRowGUID or a default value for [b] and still it gets popullated witha random GUID. If I use SQL Server enterprise manager to enter datainto the table T, [b] does not get filled and stays Null. I forgot tomention that there are no relationships between the tables yet.Is it MS access that is responsible or is it me? In any case cansomething be dont to prevent this? Also should there be something elsein relation to this that I have to look for in the future.My bestIbrahim M
I devloped this app with vs2005 and SQL 2005 express, everything seems to work fine, when I deploied the app to my web server I got a few different error messages that I worked through but now stuck on this one. i am sure it is something with SQL 2005 server. is there anywhere that has a good check list for doing things right in asp and SQL deployment? here is the error message i am getting from debugging. Have Server2003 Enterprise running IIS6 and sql2005. Lease is up and have to migrate to new server. Any migration tools out there to make this easier? Saw one for exchange, 2000-2003, but not one to do the server2003-server2003 and/or IISy-IIS6 and SQL2005-SQL2005. Any pointers for assistance?
I don't know if there is a fundamental problem with what I am trying to do, or am I just having problems setting it up correctly:
I have a SQL server multi-user database. I want my users to connect to this databsase via Access 2000 Data Project. No problem there. The database consists of one main table and several views (based on the office branch that the user works from). For example there is a Chicago view, an Atlanta view, etc. that all extract different records from the same underlying table. I need my users to have FULL ACCESS (select, update, delete) to their respective VIEWS, but they cannot have access to the underlying table. I've tried several configurations and I'm beginning to think that this may not be possible... is that the case?
If it is not possible to grant access to views but not the underlying table, then what are my other options? The objective is to have a multi-user table that each user "owns a piece of" without being able to see the tables or records belonging to their peers. Do I need to setup a table for every office, and somehow link those tables into one main table? How would I avoid duplicate records being entered into the separate tables? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as this problem has had me stumped for weeks.
I have many problem when I try to install SQL 2005 Ets edition ia64 on a 2003 ets Itanium edition.
When I launch the setup, all is all right. But during the installation, it tryes to start MSSQL services.
The staring of this service failed. So I try to start the service mannually. Nothing.
Error messages I can get (in the event log) :

When I open BIDS it displays a list of "Recent Projects". How can I edit (or delete) items from this list? (Over time the list has acquired a lot of junk est projects that I no longer need).
Writing an installer to handle switching the DLLs depending on OS version is somewhat of a pain. The SQL CE dlls that we are told to install for PocketPC 2003 and WM5 PPC are different... but I noticed that the 2003 DLLs seam to work fine on a WM5 PPC. Is there a perf hit or some other problems I will run into for doing this that I just haven't hit yet? Will this work for any WM5 PPC?
I have an application written in VB6 that creates a ADO connection using the (native SQL2005 clien)t from the client to SQLServer 2005 on Server 2003 configured as a stand alone server. The application works great on XP and has for a number of years.
Now I am attempting to deploy in Vista and using the same code the connection speed CRAWLS. it's in the magnitude of atleast 10 times slower. It eventualy works but the selects and doing a readnext against the resulting record set is at a snails pace.
What am I missing. It's has to be some sort of configuration problem somewhere.
Will it be possible to do an in-place upgrade from SQL 2000 Server Enterprise SP4 32 bit running on top of 64 bit Windows 2003 Enterprise , clustered, to SQL 2005 Enterprise 64 bit? The 32 bit SQL 2000 to 64 bit SQL 2005 in place upgrade seems questionable to me... Anybody tried anything like this?
I found sql2005 Enterprise cannot be installed under Simplied Chinese win 2003, the only thing i suspect is that win2003 is an envaluation copy with netframework 2.0 be installed.
I am in the process of moving a SQL2000 database to a SQL2005 database.
Porting from: SQL200, Windows Server 2000(SP4) (32 bit dual processor) to:SQL2005, Windows Server 2003(SP1) (x64 bit dual processor)
After porting the database from SQL2000 to SQL2005 (no changes) running the same update statement from Management Studio on the 2003 Server and and Query analiser on the 2000 Server.
SQL2000 completes the command in 2 minutes SQL2005 is still running after 60 minutes.
SQL2000 is the live/production system with users connected, the SQL2005 is in a test environment with no other processors running.
When the problem first showed up the SQL2005 activity monitor displayed CXPACKET wait type on 2 processes with the same pid number. I now no longer have any wait type being displayed but my wait time is increasing rapidly. No block is reported.
I assume that I have an CXPACKET lock problem.
Am I correct that I have a CXPACKET problem and if so what is the resolution?
The update statement is as follows...
update BI_LENDING_TRANSACTIONS set [Balance Movement Month] = M.[Balance Movement Month] from BI_LENDING_TRANSACTIONS as T, BI_BALANCE_MOVEMENT_DATES as M, BI_COMPANIES as C where (T.[Transaction Date] >= (SELECT DATEADD(d, - 70, minDate) from (select min([Transaction Date]) minDate from p_BI_LENDING_TRANSACTIONS) t1) OR T.[Transaction Date] >= C.[MostRecentSnapShotDate] or T.[Value Date] = T.[Balance Movement Month] ) and T.[Value Date] <= C.[MostRecentSnapShotDate] and T.[Value Date] >= T.[Transaction Date] and T.[Company_Code] = M.[Company_Code] and T.[Value Date] > M.[SnapShotFromDate] and T.[Value Date] <= M.[SnapShotToDate] and C.[Company_Code] = M.[Company_Code]
Made the jump from SQL2000 to 2005 - i'm not a DBA but like to play around with such nice tools- and tried to convert my DTS package into a 2005 one.
I've got a csv file containing some log in information.
As users log in everyday, this keeps getting added to the file.
I'm only interested in the latest appearance of a certain machine on the network so i filter by creating an unique Index
the CSV file get's imported into a temporary table first and then i executed the following on SQL2000
CREATE TABLE [patchings].[dbo].[allfilter] (
[username] varchar (20) NULL,
[machine] varchar (20) NULL,
[os] varchar (20) NULL,
[sp] varchar (20) NULL,
[date] smalldatetime NULL,
[time] varchar(10) NULL,
[logonserver] varchar (20) NULL,
[country] varchar (20) NULL,
[domain] varchar (20) NULL,
varchar (20) NULL,
[brand] varchar (20) NULL,
[model] varchar (20) NULL,
[speed] int NULL
)
CREATE unique INDEX [my filter] ON [dbo].[allfilter]([machine], [os]) with ignore_dup_key ON [PRIMARY]
go
insert into "Allfilter" select * from temptable order by date desc
This worked perfectly in SQL2000.
when i try to do the same in SQL2005, it doens't start inserting the most recent machines (filtered on the date) but machines at random
selecting the select * from temptable order by date desc shows me the correct order for the machines by date so i'ld presume that it adds the most recent combination of machine and operating system from "today" and ignores the older appearances.
if the temptable contained for instance..

We migrated a MS Access 2003 mdb into MS Access 2007. The mdb has linked tables to SQL Server via a DSN and utilizes a mdw file. In 2003, the username/password is "passed" to SQL Server, so the UID/PWD that is used for opening the mdb, is used in SQL Server.
Opening the same file in 2007 using the same mdw, gives a secondary login on SQL Server.
Is there a way to have MS Access 2007 pass the UID/PWD to SQL Server on linked tables, the same way that 2003 does?
I am busy looking at the WIndows 2003 Comptu Cluster setup (Well I am loading it)
And I am interested to know if any body has run SQL 2005 Enterprise on this platform before ?
I know that Windows Compute Cluster uses a JOB scheduler to run tasks and this can be customised for each task , to allow it to use more resourses or less .
I also know that SQL 2005 is much more capable of running cluster mode with database replication and log file shipping
I want to know is of I load SQL 2005 on a Clustered Compute setup will it handle the SQL jobs, database requests with out the scheduler.
The question might be a bit tricky but any help is appricated
I have an Infopath form to edit the values in the NotifyMembers table. I want to list the email addresses alphabetically when the query returns data to the form. Unfortunately, I use EmailAddressID as an int in the table, so I need to join? the NotifyMember table with the EMailAddress table, which has a column EMail which is the address. Both have EmailAddressID as common fields.
I can't get the Shape command (edit SQL in the Datasource) to be happy with any syntax that I have tried.
For (non-working) example:
select "GroupCode","EmailAddressID","DelBit" from "dbo"."NotifyMembers" as "NotifyMembers" Join "dbo"."NotifyMembers"."EmailAddressID" On "dbo"."EmailAddress"."EmailAddressID" = "dbo"."NotifyMembers"."EmailAddressID" order by "dbo"."EmailAddress"."Email"
I have a mobile device application using mobile sql 2005 replicating with sql 2000 in a x86 environment. This works fine!
I'm having issues getting this to work under Windows Server 2003 X64.
I've got all the components installed under the X64 environment including CLR 2.0 X64 and the mobile sql tools. the but when I run the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard I get the following error. SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Server Tools were not found on the IIS server. Run the SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Server Tools installer....
My question is: Were do I get the X64 version of these tools?
sqlce30setupen.msi sql2Ken@P4.msi
The SQL environment is X86 as follows: SQL2000 SP4
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2039 (Intel X86) May 3 2005 23:18:38 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1)
I am trying to connect through ODBC connectivity, but it will not allow me to do so. I have investigated this matter. It leads me back to the server, because as I was configuring my client side database. It kept asking for the DSN(datasource name), but I was unable to choose one because there wasn't one to choose. Which is my current dilemma, How can I do this and have it available to choose from the server to satisfy the Access database?
I went to the domain where the software resides but I don't know what steps to take? I also found an interesting piece on microsoft about Kerberos, but I can't follow along according to the instructions it has. I have Access 2003 & SQL SERVER 2005, HELP...!
Basically, this is right off the heels of the install. I setup the server without the connectivity, but it is running the current configuration.
I developed a database with Access 2003 and everything was working good until my tech came in and reformated my hard drive and install a new Ghost image that met our company standards.
Now I cannot go in and make any changes to any of the tables, queries and forms. All of this started when a new Ghost image was installed on my pc.
The message I get when I try to open my database is "You do not have permission to run "tblSwitchboard." I get the same error message when I try to do anything at all on the database.
We are new to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. We are going to develope a solution for one of our client and we have to decide on which database to use for the solution. Client wanted to have a low cost solution. Thus we were not in a position to push them for SQL Sever 2000.
In the process, we also thought of having MySQL as one of the option. Another option we have is to use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
We wanted to know if SQL Server 2005 Express Edition can be used with Visual Studion 2003 (Ver 1.1) or it can only be used with Visual Studio 2005 (Ver 2.0)?
using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Data; using System.Data.OleDb; using System.Collections;
namespace TimeTracking.DB { public class sql { OleDbConnection conn;
// //the constructor for this class, set the connectionstring // public sql() { DBConnectionstring ConnectToDB = new DBConnectionstring(); conn = ConnectToDB.MyConnection(); }

// //get the action ID from the database and store it in m_ActionID // OleDbCommand SelectActionID = new OleDbCommand("SELECT tblAction.ActionID FROM tblAction" + " WHERE (((tblAction.Action) LIKE @Action))", conn);
finally { //close the connection if (conn != null) { conn.Close(); } } } } }
Code Snippet
The update statement is not working in my application, no error in C# and no error in ms-access. When I paste the update query into the ms-access query tool and replace the parameter values (@....) with real values, is will update the record.
Hello all, i hope someone that understands SQL can help me.
I have a report that runs from a access query, which is simple. My problem is that i get an overflow error becuase one of the queries formulas are to divide some numbers and in this one instance there is a "0" involved.
My formula is: Col2%: [Col 2 Hrs]/([TotHrs]-[Col 6 Hrs])
The problem is that [Col 2 Hrs]=0 this month for a specific employee.
In excel i know i can do =IF([Col 2 Hrs]=0,"0",([Col 2 Hrs]/([TotHrs]-[Col 6 Hrs]))) and that works fine.
Can someone please show me how to do this in SQL so instead of returning an error it will display 0 or N/A.
Thanks inadvance
Hope i explained my issed well enough for everyone.
I'm very new to MS SQL Server; I just downloaded Express 2005 yesterday. I have it up and running; it seems to be working fine.
Now onto business - I need to migrate data from existing MS Access 2003. How, exactly, do I do this? I've tried searching MSDN, TechNet, and here, and while I get results that seem to tell part of the story, I don't seem to get a true "How to" for this task.
I am upsizing an Access 2003 database to SQL 2005 (SP2) I frequently use the criteria forms![formname].[fieldname] in Access queries to open reports or forms in Access but cannot find an SQL equivalent. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?
Is there a way to integrate Access 2003 as the Front End for SQL Express?
I tried, but I can't make a new Access project because I need to specify a login/pass and I have no idea what those are set to, or if I need to make an account somehow.
As you can see, I am totally new to SQL and any help would be appreciated.
