I have upgraded 2000 databases to sql server 2005.If the users use just query analyzer & enterprise manager in 2000 to access 2005 databases.
will there be any issues???

Apr 30, 2008I have to merge the data from two databases, one is in SQL Server 2005 format, one is in 2000. The merged data will then reside on a SQL Server 2000 platform. Is there an easy way to do this through Management Studio or Enterprise Manager? Or will we have to export the data from the 2005 database to a flat file and import it into a new 2000 database. And then do the merge?

Service Broker Not Working For Restored Databases (SQL 2000 Databases Restored On 2005)
Jan 24, 2006I just restored my SQL server 2000 database on the SQL server 2005. after this i ran the Service broker sample ("Hello World") on this database by changing the AdventureWorks name to the new database name. The "setup.sql" runs fine. When i run the "SendMessage.sql" i was not getting any rows in the output (The message was not getting inserted into the queue). I checked the Service broker is enabled on this databased using the query "select is_broker_enabled from sys.databases where name = 'newdbname' " It was 1. I even tried the ALTER DATABASE SET ENABLE_BROKER. but it didnt work.
When i tried the sample on a newly created database it worked fine.
Is there any solution to make the restored database to work for service broker.

Nov 16, 2006I have a restaurant POS application that is written in VB 6 and the data is being written to a access database. I need to access this database over the internet. I need to get certain tables (current sales) in this database to automatically send the updated data to a Web Server. My questions are: What is the best way to do this? Do I need to have sql express loaded on site and let it do the interactions with the Access server and then connect to SQL express over the internet? I am new to this and not sure of the best way to design it. Do I use Report services or analysis services to design?

I have just installed SQL 2005 client tools and management studio to register SQL 2000 databases. Although it registers the servers successfully , I can't see any activity monitor on the SQL 2000 registered server . Is it something more that I have to install to see what's happening ?

Oct 3, 2007I've got about 2 months worth of daily databases created in SQL Express 2005 for a pilot project, which the client is converting to a purchase. Unfortunately they're using SQL Server 2000 and I can't figure out how to migrate the databases to the older version. All my searching turns up how to do it in the expected direction.
Any pointers to how or where to search appreciated.

URGENT: Problems With Guest User In SQL 2005 Restoring Databases From Sql 2000

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this question, but here it goes.
We have restored into sql 2005 the database backups made in sql 2000. We connect with trusted connection and application roles, and when trying to execute a transaction to another database (with the guest user), we get a permission error.
Does anyone know if, apart from restoring the databases, we should do something else to get the guest user working the same way as with sql 2000 in the restored databases?

Error Connecting Database Problem After Moving Databases 2000 To 2005
Nov 9, 2007I have moved my databases to 2000 to instance of 2005 on the same server.
Now i set databases offline in 2000 as i did upgrade use backup & recovery method.
& my connection string
Password=test;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=test;Initial Catalog=databasename;Data Source=ipaddress
i was using above connection string to connect when using 2000 databases form applications in the production machine
I get the following error when i am running my applications now after moving to 2005
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
IS it because i have two server on one server or
What do i need to do in order to fix this....tried several thing by searching nothing worked out..

I access the sql 2000 db's . Now, the dbs have been moved to 2005. Is it possible to connect to sql 2005 db from sql enterprise manager 2000. Or let me know if I have to upgrade to 2005 to access the same.
I get the error message To connect to the server you must use sql server management studio or sql server management objects(SMO) when trying to access the server from sql enterprise manager 2000.
Usually it is not possible to access higher version dbs from a lower version.
Please help me out as soon as possible as this is very urgent.

The VB code utilizes DAO (3.6) for hourly automatic compaction and the creation of an encrypted security database. ADO is used for the data maintenance functions. I expect the current connection methodology of ODBC using Jet 4.0 will need to be modified (many articles here address this). All the SQL code is inline and also must be modified. The Coldfusion code utilizes Micrsoft Access with Unicode via an ODBC connection with only SQL Select statements. At another job, I migrated an Informix 7 database to MS SQL 7 and for the most part the SQL code remained the same except for the wildcard spec from * to %.
I'm looking for insights and/or shortcuts on this effort, primarily in the SQL command mods area. I'm perusing the threads here as we speak, but hoped someone knew of a specific thread I could go to....laziness is alive and well for us chronologically gifted people, i.e. over 55.

Does SQL 2005 Purchase Come With Access To SQL 2000 Media?

Does anyone know if we can obtain SQL2000 media along with the purchase. Because of the app we are running and its stage of development, we have to install and run SQL2000 for about 6 months before we can run Sql2005. We dont want to purchase SQL2000 for such a short term use.
I asked a DELL rep to help me with this over a month ago and he still has no answers for me.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using JDBC driver for Server 2005 (version 1.1.1501) to access Server 2000. I have no problems reading my data, but every update returns "Cursor is READ ONLY".
If I use driver for Server 2000 I have no problems. And I have no problems running the same program with 2005 driver against SQL Server Express.
Where should I start debugging?

I have an Access 2000 Database which I am upsizing to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The Database has 29 tables and 60 stored queries. Each time I upsize to SQL Server the tables come in fine but non of the queries are imported.
All of the queries are very simple Select, Insert, Update and Delete Queries with nothing special in them.
I have tried using the upsizing wizard in Access 2003 and also the SQL Server 2005 Migration Assistant for Access.
Is there anything special I need to do in the migration assistant to ensure that the queries are imported as well.

Distributed Query From SS 2000 To Access Catalog Views On SS 2005 Via Linked Server
Aug 24, 2006I am trying to write some admin only procedures which will collect information to one of my development server from other production and development servers.
I have created linked servers to access these other servers on the development server. This development server is SQL Server 2000 EE. Other servers which I want to access are 2000 and 2005 (vaious editions)
E.g I have another development server called PRODTEST which is SQL Server 2005 and on the development server I have created a linked server pointing to PRODTEST called TESTLINKSRV. I want to access new object catalog view (as I do not want to use sysobjects)
When I run the following query
SELECT * FROM [TESTLINKSRV].[DBNAME].[sys].[objects]
I get following error,
OLE DB error trace [Non-interface error: OLE DB provider does not contain the table: ProviderName=' TESTLINKSRV ', TableName='" DBNAME "."sys"."objects"'].
Msg 7314, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider ' TESTLINKSRV ' does not contain table '"DBNAME"."sys"."objects"'. The table either does not exist or the current user does not have permissions on that table.
So I try this query
SELECT * FROM [TESTLINKSRV].[DBNAME].[sys.objects]
and I get following error
Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid object name TESTLINKSRV.DBNAME.sys.objects'.
So bottom line is how do I access catalog views on a 2005 server from a 2000 server using linked server?
I hope someone understands what I am trying to achieve. Please let me know what is it that I am doing wrong.

1. Any expected problems to upgrade old 2000 databases to new 2005 SQL Server?
2. I have installed both 2005/Management Studio Express and 2000/Enterprise Manager in my PC. Any expected
problems when running both 2000 and 2005 SQL Server at the same database server?
3. What is the best configuration for running SQL Server 2005 when we have old 2000 databases? Upgade or not upgrade?

Transferring Databases From MSDE 2000 To SQL 2000
Jan 28, 2007Trying to transfer databases from MSDE to SQL. When I use SQLEnterprise Manager - DTS - import or export, it works for the firstdatabase, but then fails for the others. I select the to and fromdatabases using DTS - Import - 'MS OLE DB Provider for SQL Server',then select 'Copy objects and data between SQL Servers'. It failswith the generic error message: 'Copy objects failed', nothingfurther. I tried to just copy data, and it doesn't work totally. Ontwo databases, it said that it copied everything, but when I go inunder Enterprise manager, some of the tables are incomplete, i.e. nodata, table shows up in the list, but if you try to look at it, itsays that it is missing or empty. Also, one table was not evencopied. In the other two cases, I get errors, does not copy alltables. I get errors, like insert fails, but the column it referencesfor the table does not even exist in that table. Any suggestionswould be appreciated.

databases back to SQL Server 2000? Is there a way of doing it without
resorting to Copy Database Wizard? I love to find a way of attaching a SS 2005 database
to a SS 2000 instance without any issues.
I recently upgraded to SS 2005 and I am very unhappy with the SS 2005 and I
want to rollback to SS 2000, which was a lot more stable. I am having
several major issues that are affecting my whole company's day-to-day
operations and the managers are not happy. Some of the issues include
night time batch running very sluggish for no apparent reason. This is a
biggest problem because it only occurs once or so a week and causes a disturbance
with the daily activities when the night time processing isn€™t completed on
time. The rest of the time, the batch processing runs great, even a little better then on SS 2000. I
don't believe it is a matter of my application needing to be retuned because if
that was the case, then why isn't it running sluggish every night? Also,
it's never the same day that the sluggish behavior occurs. If it was occurring
on the same night, then I would have something to investigate within our
application, but it doesn't. Another issue that I am having involves a
night time job that restores a copy of the production database to the Data
Warehouse server to be used for updating the data warehouse. Again, most
of the time it runs great (~2 1/2 hours), but once or twice a week, it goes
stupid and takes 6 1/2 hours for no apparent reason. Again, it is not happening
the same day either, which could give me something to invesigate. On SS 2000, this same job ran flawlessly. Never I did I run into situation that the
database restoration took that long to run. Even another issue involves a SQL Server Agent Job that was put into suspended
state. What's a suspended state and how can I get it out of suspended
state? I can find no information about suspended state in BOL. I
did a Google and nothing came up. If this suspended state was put
in for security reasons, great, but then tell me how I can remove the suspended
state. I am also not happy with the
fact that I can't get accurate information about the queries that are actively
running at that particular moment. In SS 2000, when I noticed high CPU
usage on the server, I would run the sp_who2 active stored proc and it would
show me all the active thread and how much CPU it was consuming. I would
then find the running threads with the highest CPU numbers and investigate the
query and see if we could improve it. Now in SS 2005, I get in the same
situation and run the sp_who2 stored proc, and there is no smoking gun.
All of the active threads are showing very little CPU usage, which I am very
suspect of. What the heck happen to sp_who2? I looked at some of
the other ways of looking at running processes (i.e... sys.sysprocesses) and
they don't appear to be giving the information that I need.
I am very unhappy and I just want to roll back to SS 2000 and wait a couple of
years before I upgrade to SS 2005.

Access SQL Server 2005 EXPRESS From SQL Server 2000?
Feb 18, 2008I have just acquired my first root server (Microsoft Windows Server 2003) to run a lightly used ASP application. I installed SQL Server Express 2005 on the server and the application works just fine. The problem is that I cannot access the SQL database on the server from my local computer that is running SQL Server 2000 Developer.
Please note the following:
1) I can access the server database (2005 Express) from a computer that is running SQL 2005 developer.
2) I can access other servers that are running non-EXPRESS versions of SQL 2005 from my computer (which is running SQL 2000)
Thus my question is:
Is there some kind of limitation or required setting in SQL Server Express to allow remote connections from SQL 2000?
Remember - I CAN access the database remotely using SQL 2005, just not SQL 2000.
I am using SQL Query Analyzer to try to access the database from my local computer using the same connection parameters that work on my SQL 2005 computer in Management Studio.

Jun 2, 2004I've read afew articles about .Net and they mentioned not using Access when developing with VS.Net, but the articles didn't go into why. Between the two, is one better/easier to use than the other? Is there a cost difference? Or does it depend on what you are doing?

Mar 13, 2008The project I work with consists of about a dozen databases. One of the .mdf files was deleted by one of the team members. Since we are still exploring with the data structures to some degree, we didn't have a backup for this file, but we do have the .sql file that created the database. Now, however, we cannot access any of the databases because the OS reports that it can't find the one file. The log shows that it connects to the others fine, but gives us a login failure because of one missing file [Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11]. Losing the file is of no importance to the team, but it sure is causing a problem for SQL Server 2005. How do we get the rest of the databases to connect and just drop the damaged one to recreate it later?
