Access Denied To Cluster Storage When Restoring 2005 Full Text DB To 2014 Cluster

Jun 10, 2015

I am in the process of moving databases from a SQL 2005 Standard version to a 2-node 2014 cluster. All of my 2005 databases back up successfully. They all restore without issue except for one database that has a full text catalog. I get this message

Msg 7610, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Access is denied to "fileStoragedataMSSQLSERVERFullTextCatalog", or the path is invalid.
Msg 3156, Level 16, State 50, Line 2

Problems were identified while planning for the RESTORE statement. Previous messages provide details.
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 2

[code]....

I went as far as giving the folder full access to everyone temporarily and received the same error.

Full Text/cluster

Sep 2, 1999

I've got a new search engine built with a full-text index working beautifully on a dev server.
WHen I went to move it to my main servers (a cluster) it SEEMS to go OK.. but won't actually populate the
catalog (though it says it populated.. under properties it shows NO items indexed)..

I finally found a post in a newsgroup that says fulltext indexes WILL NOT work on a cluster...!!!

IS THIS TRUE!? I've not found anything on MS or anywhere else that supports this..

Someone say it's not true.. tell me where to click to make it go away.
Don't make me rewrite the application.

THANKS!

SQL 2012 :: Cluster Install Forces Full Text Installation

Sep 14, 2015

We're having a bizarre issue with installing our SQL 2012 cluster. On the stand-alone instances, we're able to choose Replication and Data Quality Services from the Database Engine Services without choosing Full-Tex and Semantic Extractions for Search. But when installing the cluster, it won't let us choose the other two without it. In fact, if we click on either Replication or Data Quality, it auto-checks ALL of the features.

My coworker discovered this problem and I was able to replicate it. We're using the SP1 install msi.

Why this is happening with a cluster install but not a stand-alone install?

My install appears to be hanging at the as_cluster_ip_address_cluster_config_Cpu64 part and I'm wondering if it's because it's trying to install Full Text.

SQL 2012 :: Services On A Cluster - Full Text Filter Daemon

Sep 30, 2015

So the cluster install forced us to install Full-Text on our cluster (which we don't want to use, but I guess we don't have a choice about installing it). Now I'm going through to update the services from Manual to Automatic (on the appropriate nodes) and I see SQL Full-text Filter Daemon Launcher running.

What is the harm in turning it off if we're not using Full-Text capabilities?

I need to restore a SQL 2008 db on SQL 2014 instance with out upgrading the database(changing compatibility level).

This database has full text enabled. I see one full text catalog an 2 full text indexes.

Do I need to worry about anything or can I perform a clean restore from the backup with full text import?

Do I need to rebuild the catalog in this case?

SP2 Fails On Cluster - Domain Group Cannot Be Validated For The Service Full-Text Search

Jul 10, 2007

Greetings,

I'm totally stuck on this issue and would really appreciate any advice. Here's what's going on...

I'm trying to install SP2 on a SQL 2005 Std x64 cluster and all the components upgrade except the DB Engine, which fails with this error saying the domain group (not the service account) could not be validated for the full-text search service.

I've rebooted both nodes. I've verified that the domain group exists. I even removed the full text search component and I still get the same error.

I've reviewed this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915846
But the ftsgroup registry value mentioned does not exists. I assume it only shows up after sp2 is installed.

Interestingly, I couldn't uninstall full-text search unless I passed the FTSCLUSTERGROUP parameter to the setup.exe command line remove command.

The OS is Windows Server 2003 Ent x64 SP2. Not a domain controller. I'm upgrading from the RTM version of SQL Server.

I've posted the relevant parts of the summary and log files below.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

- Chris

Changing Storage Location On SQL Cluster

Aug 14, 2006

We are running SQL Server 2000 w SP4 on a 2 node active/passive Windows 2003 w SP1 configuration. We are presented with 2 150GB LUNs and 1 600MB on particular SAN that does not belong to us. M: and N: drives are the datadrives and Q: is the quorum.

We now have our own SAN and we will be using it for the SQL cluster data storage. The SAN administrator stated that he will present me with 2 150GB LUNs and 1 600MB…pretty much the same configuration.

How will I be able to move all my data and configure the cluster to the new SAN?

Thank you for any help!

Recovery :: Restoring 2005 Database With Full Text Catalogs To 2012?

Nov 15, 2015

We are trying to restore from a backup (.bak) of a sql 2005 database with full text catologs to sql 2012.

We are getting errors saying that the backup file context are different from what we are trying to restore to, even if we try to create a new database from the backup. The new database is just a test database. The source is a production database with full cataologs.

The normal restore from a bak file does not seem to work.

We dont need the full text catalogs in the new database, but cannot change settings in the source production database.

Is there a way to take a backup of the sql 2005 database without the full text cataologs being included ? , without changing setting in the source database beforehand ?

I am experimenting to see if normal restore in a stand alone environment would work. But I would like to know if there is a definitive method to use.
Looked on BOL could not find anything.

Upgrading A SQL Server 2000 Cluster To A SQL Server 2005 Cluster

Dec 28, 2007

We're upgrading a SQL Server 2000 cluster (Active/Passive) running on Windows 2000 Server to a SQL Server 2005 Cluster running on Windows Server 2003. We can't purchase new hardware and we have no spare hardware. We also need to move from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server at the same time. We want to keep downtime to a bare minimum.

What we were thinking was the following steps... Anyone try this?

1. Break the link between the servers.

2. Install a fresh copy of windows 2003 server on one side along with SQL Server 2005. While this step is running, the active node would still be live on Windows 2000 Server and SQL Server 2000 serving our customers.

3. Restore a copy of a backup from the active production side to the node we're upgrading and at that point we would bring the active node down, switching the active node to be the newly upgraded server.

4. As a final step, the old active node would now have the link to it broken, we would install a fresh copy of windows 2003 server on it and sql server 2005. At this point we would bring it back into the cluster and the cluster would be complete again.

Thoughts?

Setup And Upgrade :: Cluster Installation Failed On Adding Node To Cluster

Oct 10, 2015

During the installation of Adding node to a SQL Server failover cluster(On passive node) getting error like.. The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start. We  run the below commands but didn’t get any resolution & got the same above error .

1st Method…

1. Open console command (Run->CMD with administrator privileges).

2. net stop winmgmt

3. Rename folder %windir%System32WbemRepository to other one, for backup purposes (for example _Repository).

4. net start winmgmt

2nd Method..

1. Disable and stop the WMI service.

a) Command : - sc config winmgmt start= disabled

b. Command : -                 net stop winmgmt

2. Run the following commands.

a).  Command:  Winmgmt /salvagerepository %windir%System32wbem

b). Command:   Winmgmt /resetrepository %windir%System32wbem

3. Re-enable the WMI service

Command:          sc config winmgmt start= auto

Last command to run after above steps

4. Command:     mofcomp "%programfiles(x86)%Microsoft SQL Server100Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"

File not found Error for above command.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: AlwaysOn Secondary Down -> Whole Cluster Goes Down

Oct 25, 2015

We had a big issue today during maintenance work in our SQL environment.

So our environment:
- 2x SQL Server 2014 Enterprise on Windows Server 2012 R2 (SRV1 and SRV2)
-- Both Hyper-V VMs on different Hosts
-- Both configured to an Windows Failover Cluster and AlwaysOn Availability Group (AG1)
-- AG Listener: AG1_lis
-- No shared storage (each Hyper-V Host has its own local storage)
-- Asynchronous Mode
-- SRV1 is primary, SRV2 is secondary SQL node

What happened?
- Shutting down Windows on SRV2 due hardware maintenance
- Cluster goes offline, AG1 goes offline
-- Error message: "Stopped listening on virtual network name 'AG1_lis'."
-- Error message: "The availability group database "DatabaseXY" is changing roles from "PRIMARY" to "RESOLVING" because the mirroring session or availability group failed over due to role synchronization."

Results?
- AG1_lis wasn't available for our applications and they stopped working properly because database connection was lost!

I think, I HOPE, this is not the normale behaviour when one node is shutting down (especially the secondary node!)

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Active Passive Cluster With 5 Instances

Nov 4, 2015

We have a SQL 2014 active passive cluster with 5 instances. When the cluster was installed one of the nodes was a virtual machine. As we started to have problems and this is not a Microsoft supported configuration we decided to replace the virtual node with a phyiscal one. On 3 of these 5 instances we configured static ports (1433 TCP) this was required for applications and firewall implementation.

Now with the physical node joined to the cluster we have issues with these three instances. Whenever one of these instances is moved to the passive node the server authentication is changed from mixed to windows only. I'm no SQL expert at all but to me it looks like the configuration of the instances are not replicated to the passive node? I found some similar problems on the net but these are mostly under sql 2008.
