Access Denied To ReportServer And Reports, Works Locally But Fails Remotely

May 15, 2008

I am getting the error:

HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

when I attempt to connect to Reports or ReportServer from my desktop, but it works normally when I login with the same userid and run it directly on the server, using IE. It is prompting me for a login 2 or 3 times before failing.

My configuration is:

Report Server system:

Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 - 32bit

SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Enterprise Edition
Windows & Web Service run as a domain account
Database connection is using domain account - not in db_owner, but in RSExec roles
Database is on another server, and is Native, not SharePoint integrated
Reports & ReportServer are in a separate application pool
Reporting Services had SP2 installed before it was configured
The Rport Server is a VM

Database server

Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 - x64
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 64bit
Version 9.00.3200.00

The Report Manager was not working at all, and I discovered that there was no entry in the .Net Framework version on the APS.Net tab in properties for the Reports virtual directory. I am not seeing any errors or anything unusual in the Event log or in the ReportServer log files.

FrontPage 2002 extensions were installed, and then removed. I noticed that this installed a SharePoint virtual directory, and that disappeared when I removed FrontPage extensions.

The domain group my userid is in is in the local Administrators group on the ReportServer system, and I have added this group as a System Administrator and Content Manager through the report Manager.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Bill

DTS Fails At Customer Site With Too Many Columns, Works Locally

Nov 16, 2004

I am having the most baffling problem with DTS.... :confused:

I have a set of ActiveX transforms that execute on my customers flat transaction data files, destination a single database table. Since they switched to a new method of generating the flat file using SAS, the DTS package mysteriously will fail at a couple select records. The error is always the same, and turning on error logging in DTS yielded this:

Step 'DTSStep_DTSDataPumpTask_1' failed

Step Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services Flat File Rowset Provider
Step Error Description:Too many columns found in the current row; non-whitespace characters were found after the last defined column's data.
Step Error code: 80043013
Step Error Help File: DTSFFile.hlp
Step Error Help Context ID:0

Step Execution Started: 11/16/2004 6:37:51 PM
Step Execution Completed: 11/16/2004 6:39:39 PM
Total Step Execution Time: 107.415 seconds
Progress count in Step: 515000

The exact same file parses all the way through on my laptop, with the same DTS package. Tests have revealed no strange characters or whitespaces in the data file, not at that record (running a Test... on any of the active x transforms will fail at row 515186 always, until that row is deleted and it fails on some subsequent row - this iteration went on at the customer site until about 5 rows were deleted this month and it finally worked), not at any other records. My database and the customer database are both using the same, default character set.

The only microsoft KB article referencing anything resembling my problem is
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;292588
but this does not hold because I am not specifying fixed width, but rather comma delimited.

If anyone has any ideas about what other environmental variables are coming into play here, please let me know - I'm at the end of my rope. I believe we are both patched up to SQL 2000 SP3. They have an XP client connecting to a 2003 server; I have an XP client/server. Neither machine has the NLS_LANG environment variable set.

Access Denied When Connecting Remotely Via SSMS

Jan 10, 2006

Hello,

Only the server administrator user can connect to SSIS from remote workstations.  All other users encounter "Access denied".  What security settings are necessary to permit regular user access to SSIS?  Firewalling is not an issue.  SSIS is running and works fully for the server administrator user.  All users can manage the Database with SSMS just fine; only SSIS cannot be accessed by regular users.

Server Configuration Notes:

Windows Server 2003

SQL Server 2005 Standard

Workstation Configuraiton Notes:

Windows XP Professional

SSMS (installed from the SS2005 media)

Thank you.

Can Not Access Localhost/ReportServer Or Reports

May 9, 2007

hi all,

I installed ReportServer with success I think, and I'm able to deploy my Report Model in BIDS (it says "success")..

But now, when I try to go to http://localhost/ReportServer, I get the error below:
The permissions granted to user 'EVO610IUSR_EVO610' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Get Online Help

I really tried everything; I granted full permissions to the folder below for IUSR_EV0610, but it still says the same error.
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesReportServer

Is this not the correct solution?
Any other things that I don't know?

Thanks

DB Access Works In Debug But Fails When Hosted

Mar 28, 2007

I have written a intranet page that writes some info into a sql database, basically following the 'SQL Server 2005 Express for Beginners' video.When I debug the application from within 'Visual Web Develop 2005 express' it works fine entries are entered into the DB and I can then edit the db using the admin page.But when I host the site using IIS I doesn't work, submissions to the database seem to fail I can see the DB in the admin page but if I try to edit them or delete them it fails. What could I doing wrong could I be missing a setting in IIS? Any ideas??Here's my webconfig if that helps at all:  <?xml version="1.0"?><configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0">    <connectionStrings>        <add name="studentprofilesConnectionString1" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|studentprofiles.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>    </connectionStrings>    <system.web>        <roleManager defaultProvider="AspNetWindowsTokenRoleProvider" />  <compilation debug="true" defaultLanguage="c#" /></system.web></configuration>

Procs Fails In MS Access, Works In Management Studio

Apr 4, 2008

I have a stored procedure which is run through MS Access (yuck). It does not appear to fail, but it does not populate certain tables, and is also rather complex. I did not write it, and am trying my best to fix it. However, when I run the same procedure with the same parameters from within Management Studio (database state is the same, I restore from backup before trying out each execution) it populates the tables correctly. I have profiled both executions (from MS and from Access) and it is running with the same NTUsername, and thus the same permissions. The process used to work and then some changes were made to the DB which seem to have broken it from Access. As far as I know, the Access code has not changed, although it may have done so. The proc call from Access uses the same parameters, and does not throw an error, although it does not appear to close the connection to the DB (I'm looking into this). Access uses an ODBC connection to connect to SQL Server.

Any ideas?

Unable To Connect To SQL Server Express Locally Or Remotely

Jun 22, 2007

I have read all of the posts regarding this subject as well as 3"Dummies" guides and I keep having the same problems. I have a verysimple multi-user application that has to hit a database. Wecuerrently have this system deployed and it is working fine on adomain based network. We are scaling back and the network we will beusing is now a workgroup not a domain.It should be simple. I have XP boxes (clients) trying to hit the SQLServer Express database on a Windows Server 2003 machine. It is aclosed network so security is not an issue. I am trying to make thisthing wide open. All I want is for the user to be logged in on hisclient machine, run the application, and access/update the databasewithout having to re-authenticate to the SQL server. I want windowsto handle all of the authentication between the XP machines and theServer 2003 machine.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wierd, Yet Cool.. Can Login/browse To Server Remotely, But Not Locally.

Jun 11, 2007

I can access the report server remotely. However, when I try to access via browser locally, no luck. I get access denied.

Some kind of browser diff maybe?

I noticed that on the browsers/machines that work, I have the option of putting the domain in seperately. The browser that doesnt work (on the same machine as the db server and web site) puts the domain in front of the username for me.

Any ideas?

Remote Connection To SSIS Fails With Access Is Denied

May 24, 2007

I'm new to SSIS and I'm having problems getting a remote connection to the SSIS service using Management Studio on my workstation. If I terminal Service onto the Server I have no problems connecting to SSIS, but if I try to connect remotely I get the "Access is denied" error message. I have completed the following steps:

To configure rights for remote users on Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP
1. If the user is not a member of the local Administrators group, add the user to the Distributed COM Users group. You can do this in the Computer Management MMC snap-in accessed from the Administrative Tools menu.
2. Open Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Component Services to start the Component Services MMC snap-in.
3. Expand the Component Services node in the left pane of the console. Expand the Computers node, expand My Computer, and then click the DCOM Config node.
4. Select the DCOM Config node, and then select MsDtsServer in the list of applications that can be configured.
5. Right-click on MsDtsServer and select Properties.
6. In the MsDtsServer Properties dialog box, select the Security tab.
7. Under Launch and Activation Permissions, select Customize, then click Edit to open the Launch Permission dialog box.
8. In the Launch Permission dialog box, add or delete users, and assign the appropriate permissions to the appropriate users and groups. The available permissions are Local Launch, Remote Launch, Local Activation, and Remote Activation. The Launch rights grant or deny permission to start and stop the service; the Activation rights grant or deny permission to connect to the service.
9. Click OK to close the dialog box. Close the MMC snap-in.
10. Restart the Integration Services service.

But I still get the Access is denied error from my workstation??

I have Power User rights on the server and I'm a sysadmin in the database instance. The SSIS packages I am trying to access are stored in the database. If I add myself to the local administrators group on the server I CAN get remote access, but this is not an acceptable solution in our production environment.

Thanks for any help

Cannot Deploy Reports Using Custom Assembly - Access Is Denied

Aug 10, 2007

We have a custom assembly that worked fine with SSRS 2000. Now that we have upgraded to SQL 2005 we get an "Access is denied" error when attempting to deploy reports that reference this assembly. I could swear that when we first attempted it it worked. We decided to make a minor change to the assembly code and that's when the problem started, even though I've since reverted back to the original code to make certain that the minor change wasn't the issue. The assembly is in the proper folder - C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2Reporting ServicesReportServerin - and the reports are referencing the current version. I've searched high and low on the web for an answer but have found nothing even remotely helpful. All this code does is return a string...it's not doing anything that should require any additional security; and even then I doubt if there would be a problem when deploying.

The full text of the error is:
Error while loading code module: €˜Reporting, Version=1.0.2778.12272, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null€™. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'Reporting, Version=1.0.2778.12272, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

Any ideas? Anyone? I'm at my wit's end on this!

Mike

Crystal Reports And ODBC Getting Access Denied On Pass Thru

Jul 27, 2006

Hello,

Environment - Windows 2003 standard server SP1, SQL 2000 SP4 (installed mixed mode)

Goal: To have Crystal reports run via odbc dsn using windows authentication.

Big Honkin' Problem: I should say that if the users are local admins on this server then the windows authentication works just great, if not a local admin then it doesn't work. SQL gives an error access denied. (this shows in the logs btw.. to the end user crystal displays a generic database error) Since windows authentication failed, I then decided to use the dbo and switch to SQL auth. This dbo did not have a password and everything ran great. Then the IT dept. asked me to give the user a password, so I did. Then everytime Crystal opened, a window would appear asking the user to type the database , user and password. In Windows everytime this was done the crystal control files would change ownership to whomever entered the information making the report useless to any other user until I manually went into the file properties and changed it back. I develop these reports thru an VPN connection and on my desktop I said phooey on re-entering the password 50 zillion times while developing so I opened the dsn and put the PWD line in and it ran great. So we figured why not put this on the server - the password does not pass thru to SQL, even as admin user. The final problem that came up in relation to this is that I then created another user in SQL with no password so the reports would run. I developed a report that takes the current user credentials and passes it to the report via dde link. On my machine running over the VPN and launching the database program (GoldMine) over the WAN the report did everything it was suppose to. I high-fived myself and installed it on the server where the users would launch it and the dang thing wont pass the credentials over to the report.

I know there is not much to SQL security - it's either SQL or mixed mode. I have it on mixed mode and I know for fact it runs because Goldmine runs. I have to have some sort of security 'thang' in Windows 2003 somewhere that doesn't allow the passord to move and SQL only sees a blank password.

If any body can give me any help - I would so greatly appreciate it.

thanks

Works Locally But Not On Host

May 1, 2008

I am very confused. I've finally gotten everything to work the way I want on my pc, but when I ftp to the Internet (URL is hosted on GoDaddy), everything goes haywire. I had to create a new database on the host server, and when I use an aspx login, I get the following message:

The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file.

I know what the connection string to the database is, but where do I enter that information? I'm obviously new at asp.net and sql, and I need major help.

Thanks. Linda

View Works Locally But Not On GoDaddy

Jun 29, 2007

I have an application that utilizes aspnet for membership.
The application utilizes the same database (in SQLServer) for storage of other things. I have a view as follows:

USE [DB_Name]
GO
/****** Object: View [dbo].[Authorization] Script Date: 06/29/2007 15:27:25 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
CREATE VIEW Authorization
AS
SELECT dbo.Domain.Domain_ID, dbo.Domain.Domain_Name, dbo.Alias.Alias_Name,
dbo.Alias.Alias_Authority, dbo.Domain.Domain_ProcessType, dbo.Domain.Domain_Status,
dbo.aspnet_Users.UserName AS Owner_Name
FROM dbo.Alias INNER JOIN
dbo.Domain ON dbo.Alias.Alias_Parent_ID = dbo.Domain.Domain_ID INNER JOIN
dbo.aspnet_Users ON dbo.Domain.Domain_Owner_ID = dbo.aspnet_Users.UserId

This works fine locally. However, I am hosting this on GoDaddy and though it allows me to create the table, it seems to have a problem (I'm guessing because it is referencing differing schemas?) and I get an error of: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'Authorization'.through the SQLServer Web interface whenever I attempt to view the data from this view.
I don't doubt that there is some kind of difference between the manner that SQLServer has set up the schemas and how they are set up on my local version.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am at a loss of how to get this info and truly want to utilize the view as it would improve performance over a query - at least I believe so. My thinking is that although there may be a performance drop when the item is being added, I gain on the back-end where I really need the performance over utilizing a query.

Thanks,
Steven Henley

Calling DTS Via ASP.NET Works Locally But Not When Published To Intranet

Jan 19, 2007

I have a DTS package that I am calling in my code-behind (vb) of one of my asp.net pages on my intranet. The package takes a FoxPro table that is on our network and inserts it into a SQL Server table in one of our databases. The package gets called and executed properly when I am working on it in development on my local workstation, but when I publish it to our intranet, which is in the same domain and behind the same firewall, the package does not execute. No error shows up on the published page, but also nothing gets executed. Has anyone encountered this? Here is my code, which is pretty straightforward:
oPkg = Server.CreateObject("DTS.Package")oPkg.LoadFromSQLServer("[servername]", "sa", "[password]", DTSSQLStgFlag_Default, "", "", "", "Invoice Import")oPkg.Execute()
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Accessing Data Connection Works Locally, But Not When Deployed

Nov 15, 2005

Hi all, I hope this is a simple issue that I'm overlooking something or have contradicting permissions set somewhere. I have a fairly basic site with a subfolder containing an aspx page. The user logs in to gain access to the subfolder. That part works fine.On another page(also within a subfolder in the subfolder), they can post form data to a database (SQL Server 2000) which exists on a different server than my web server. This page opens fine, but when submitting the data (only one value to one field for my testing purposes), it bombs and returns the error "Login failed for user"...In my connection string I've specified the username and password which I assigned to the db in Enterprise Manager (not sa, btw). I've also tried letting IIS control the UID/PW, and even specified no UID/PW in either the connection string or the db. Anonymous access enabled in IIS for this virtual directory also returns the error. (?)I should mention that in Visual Studio, the connection string was automatically set to my local development machine's workstation ID. I removed that and have tried replacing it with the server name, blank, etc.(in notepad) - to no avail. dll's are in their proper places, etc. The only thing not working is the database connection.Using: IIS v6, SQL Server 2000, and Visual Studio.NET 2003 (1.1 framework)Anyway - any suggestions? There are so many places to enable/disable permissions, it's getting confusing. I hope it's something I'm overlooking and not a problem with our SQL installation...Thanks!--Donnie

Problems Publishing My Personal Website - Works Fine Locally!

Jan 24, 2006

People,I'm trying to publish my first website and am having a few problems.I've got Visual Web Developer 2005 Express and am trying to use the Personal Website Starter Kit. (my SQL server is SQL Server Express Edition 2005 - which is also running on my local machine)It seems to work fine when I run it on my localhost, as soon as I ftp it up to my web hosting company, I get an error message (see below) :-An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) My hypothesis is :-It would appear to me that when running locally, the starter kit website uses my installation of SQL 2005 Express Edition, but when I upload all the files, I'm guessing the application is still trying to point at a local instance of SQL on my local PC which it now cannot see. I'm guessing I need to somehow upload the SQL database onto my web host (I've purchased 100M of SQL Server 2005 space), and point the application at that SQL instance instead. But I don't know if I'm right about all this, or indeed how to do it if I am. Can anyone help?Much thanks in advance,Will

Connecting To Datafiles Stored Remotely From SQL Server--not Locally From The SQL Server

Jun 18, 2001

I had asked a question last week and I realized that I had phrased it in a misleading way. Within a lab environment at my company, we are experimenting w/ accessing remote SQL data files stored separately on another machine from the SQL server itself (whether it be another client or server).

The experiment is this: You have one client machine accessing a SQL server via Enterprise Manager. The datafiles that you are trying to access are stored on another machine that does not have SQL Server installed. This remote machine only has the datafiles.

Can one map a static path via UNC from the SQL server to the datafiles on the remote machine and then access these datafiles (as long as the user's account has the appropriate permissions to the remote machine)? To my understanding, within SQL server you can only access datafiles that are stored locally on the SQL server itself.

The other thing that I was wondering was if the type of user account had some significance in this situation. More than likely, a local user account would not be able to access the remote machine w/ the datafiles even if the SQL server could map an UNC path and retain it. A domainuser account might be able to do this though.

Any help that you could provide would be appreciated.

DTS Package Manually/locally It Runs Fine. But The Scheduled Job Run And Fails

I was facing some issue on MP. Yesterday I changed the SQL services to use the local admin account. That didn't help my MP issue. But it may have created another issue.
When I run the package manually/locally it runs fine. But the scheduled job run and fails with the Title string.

Value Is Null Remotely - Non Null Locally

Aug 15, 2006

ok here is a WIERD issue.

I've NEVER EVER had this issue, I have always done this and it works great both locally and remotely.

I have a table, which is a "customers" table.

I have a stored procedure which takes in parameters (name, address, password etc...) and returns me back, via a parameter declared as output - the customer ID.

I've always done this, and works great.

Now, this works fine locally.

IF I try to run this/do the exact same execution of commands (create a customer) remotely (where the database is stored, so copying everything from local to "over there") it does not work.

I get a DBNULL value back from the parameter, declared as an int output.

IF I copy and paste this Stored procedure Query/command into Query Analyzer and execute it (on the remote connection) and run it, giving it the exact same values as I do, it works perfect and returns me the correct value.

I've even dropped and recreated the stored procedure but makes no difference.

Any ideas why?

here is the proc....

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[DoCreateNewCustomer] (
@theFirstName nvarchar(25),
@theLastName nvarchar(25),
@theAddress nvarchar(50),
@theCity nvarchar(15),
@thePostCode nvarchar(9),
@thePhoneNumber nvarchar(21),
@theMobilePhoneNumber nvarchar(21),
@theIPAddress nvarchar(25),
@thePassword nvarchar(50),
@theEmailAddress nvarchar(30),
@result int output
)
AS
SET @result = (SELECT [ID] FROM Customers WHERE emailAddress = @theEmailAddress)
IF @result IS NOT NULL
 SET @result = -1
ELSE
BEGIN
 SET @result = @@IDENTITY
 INSERT INTO Customers (

 Firstname,
 Lastname,
 Address,
 City,
 Postcode,
 PhoneNumber,
 MobileNumber,
 IPAddress,
 [Password],
 EmailAddress

 )

 VALUES (

 @theFirstName,
 @theLastName,
 @theAddress,
 @theCity,
 @thePostCode,
 @thePhoneNumber,
 @theMobilePhoneNumber,
 @theIPAddress,
 @thePassword,
 @theEmailAddress
 )

END
GO

Any ideas why it does not work when calling the stored proc from either a web app, or through QA remotely but works fine when I run that command in QA or locally?

Again, if I do:

EXEC DoCreateNewCustomer { params } - the output result it gives me is DBNULL (if on remote connection)

If I do this locally, perfect

If I copy and paste pretty much the SP into QA and execute it on the remote connection, works great, and also locally.

Problem: I Can't Get Reports From Http://myserver/ReportServer

Aug 30, 2007

Hello all,

I'm using SQL Server 2005 SP 2 with Reporting services and MS dynamic CRM 3.0.
During the installation of CRM, a lot of Reports are deployed to the ReportServer.
I can connect to the ReportServer over http://myserver/ReportServer, can walk through the folders and select the wanted Report, but I only get the header of the Report without the Action Icons and Data!

If I use http://myserver/Reports, the selected Reports works very well.

Has anybody an idea what is happen?

Sql Job Fails But When Run Outside Works Fine

Mar 25, 2008

Hi..

I am stuck at a very awkward place. I have created one package which uses an oracle view as its source for data transfer the problem is when i run the package through dtexec it works fine but when i try to schedule it I get the following error

Error: 2008-03-24 13:52:40.22
Code: 0xC0202009
Source: pk_BMR_FEED_oracle Connection manager "Conn_BMR"
Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.

Provider is unable to function until these components are installed.".

I am able to run the package outside the sql job and also connect to the oracle.
I have oracle 9i client installed on the server and sql server is 2005.

Any help would really be appreciated..

Query Works - Sproc Fails

Mar 4, 2007

I have a query that works fine but fails as a sproc.
QUERY:
SELECT UserName, ProfileId, FirstName, LastName
FROM dbo.CustomProfile JOIN dbo.aspnet_Users
ON dbo.CustomProfile.UserId = dbo.aspnet_Users.UserId
WHERE UserName = 'Brown'

SPROC:
set ANSI_NULLS ON
set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetProfileId]
@UserName nvarchar
AS
SELECT UserName, ProfileId, FirstName, LastName
FROM dbo.CustomProfile JOIN dbo.aspnet_Users
ON dbo.CustomProfile.UserId = dbo.aspnet_Users.UserId
WHERE UserName = @UserName
The query returns results. In SQL Server Management Studio when I execute the sproc and enter the value Brown the sproc returns no values; i.e. 0

SQL DTS Job Fails Where Execute Of Package Works?

Jun 7, 2004

I have a SQL DTS package that imports a text file as one wide column into a two column SQL table, one is an identity seed. So essentially I import then parse the data using the index key as it is 3 seperate lines of data. All works fine by running the DTS package using execute. When I schedule this as a job it fails. It indicates that I have additional white space after a column. Any thoughts on why this can ocurr?

Scheduled DTS Fails, Manual Works. Help!

Jan 3, 2007

Hey all. I've got a DTS package that's scheduled to run after business hours on the last day of the month. This package copies some tables from an offsite SQL Server, then runs through a series of SQL Statements and finally exports an excel file with the results.

My problem is that the DTS will run if I manually start it, but the scheduled job always fails. Of course, the error I get is that the job failed at step one, and I have no other info.

I'm not a heavy DBA (mor eon the client app side of things), so I'm unsure as to how I can dbug this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
