Hi everybody,
I do not know if this is the correct area to post this topic? So, How to access
different sql server with query analyzer? Usually, when to install sql server, it
access the database server locally installed, now I like to access other sql server
within a domain using query analyzer. How to configure this in order I could use
query analyzer to access other sql server within a domain? Thanks in advanced.

Hi,
We have the followoing:
-A "master domain" AD, a "sub domain" AD, a trust relationship between the two (sub trust master)
-A sql server 2005 on a win server 2003 in "sub domain" AD
-A linked server to "sub domain" AD
-A linked server login using a "sub domain" admin acccount
-A view to this linked server
-A grant on masterDomain/Domain Users to the database
-A grant on subDomain/Domain Users to the database
-We want all connections done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".
Queries on the view work fine using "sub domain" user accounts.
Queries on the view fail using "master domain" user accounts (including master domain admin accounts)
"Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI" reported an error. The provider indicates that the user did not have the permission to perform the operation."
All connections are done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".
Can we establish cross domain connectivity with "Windows Authentication" ?
Below are details of the implementation:

I'm trying to run a test from my test environment which is a non-domain Windows 2000 server to access my domain 2003 with SQL2005. I have install 2005 tools to try to access the SQL server.
- I have try following the KB265808 - no success.
- Reading alot of blogs and it seems all are pointing to the same problem. "Remote access" but the settign is enabled.Error Message:

Question: Could Windows 2003 security be blocking access? I'm using sa account to access.
Also, sa account does not seems to work for remote access. It is ok when accessing locally.

A SQL server 7 database I have been developing has recently been moved outside a firewall (for various reasons). I have found that I cannot access query analyser or enterprise manager via an IP address. Is their any way around this?

we recently migrated from our in-house domain to the Enterprise domain. Everything went smooth except for the fact that I can no longer accept my dBs using my SA or my domain admin account. There is only 1 account I can get into the management studio with but it has no admin privileges, so I can't make any  password changes or add accounts. I don't have a test environment so kind of hesitant to experiment with our production system.

Is there a way to access a SQL Server running on a different domain? I can access the same SQL Server from my machine, which is on a different domain using the ODBC connection, but when I try to access it using an application written in VB6.0 then I get the SQL Server does not exist error. I'm using the SQL Authentication method.

Hi,
I'm trying to access an SQL server 2005 database over the network. I'm at a client location plugged into their network, but when I log into my laptop I'm not logging into their domain. I have to access their network by typing in the name and password they gave me.
I cannot seem to access the database from my computer. I try to create an ODBC data source in the administrative tools, but the drop down list of detected SQL servers does not show the server I am trying to connect to. The weird thing is, it does show many other SQL servers on their network... just not the one that I'm trying to connect to. And I know that the one I want to connect to is working correctly because if I remote desktop into one of their machines (which is logged onto their domain), I can see it fine in the drop down.
Does anybody know how I can get a connection to this database from my computer, even though I'm not on the domain?

Hi,
I have a quick question regarding domains and workgroups.
Currently I am working on an issue in the office of a small business. Right now there are 3 client computers that connect to a dell server running windows std. server 2003. The server has sql running on it that takes care of the invoicing system. Two out of the three work stations are able to use the database fine, but there is one that is unable to connect to the database. The only different that I could find is that the two workstations that DO work are currently set to use a workgroup, whereas the one workstation that does NOT work is set to use a domain...... I tried switching that computer to workgroup, but then I was unable to login as the normal user that I had always logged in as before.....
What can I do to solve this dilemma?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this, and if it is, if someone would point me to the correct one I would appreciate it.

For some reason, I run a stored procedure in Query Analyzer and it works fine. When I run the very same procedure in MS access by clicking on its link I have to run it twice. The first run gives me the message that the stored procedure ran correctly but returned no records. The second run gives me the correct number of records but I have to run it twice. I am running month-to-month data. The first run is Jan thru March. Jan and Feb have no records so I run three months on the first set. The ensuing runs are individual months from April onward. The output is correct but any ideas on why I have to do it twice in Access? I am a bit new to stored procedures but my supervisor assures me that it should be exactly the same.

Subject problem has me quite vexed.
I am receiving the following error when attempting to access reporting services... to sum things up real nice and tidy-
I get three login prompts - then the access denied response. It is almost as if it is unable to authenticate the user... anyway... here's the actual error response, I'd really appreciate any input/insight/resolution.

Hi,
When looking in the server trace in query analyzer – I can see how many ‘reads’ a stored procedure does.
So I'm wondering if we can determine whether our query is good or bad by looking at the number of reads/writes that showing in the Trace.

I was given a list of user comments from an old application and told to match it up with our current system. After all the easy methods I was still left with 95% of the records unmatched. The only way I had left was to try and match up the names. Given that people could have the same name I added a count to make sure it only found one record. This query has been running for over an hour now. How do I tell if it's actually running, or if it locked up?
Also here is the query I'm using, does anyone have any feedback on it? Is this poorly written, is my logic wrong? Did I put the server in a loop?

Hi everybody!
i've got a problem: when trying to connect to SQL Query Analyzer on SQL Server 2000 with SQL Server authentication, i fill in the gaps user name and password but when i press OK it gives me an error.
it says: "Unable to connect to server server-name: login failed for user X. Reason: not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection".
the user i want to get connected with is correcly set up and appears in the SQL Server security-->logins list with type=standard; server access=permit; default database=master.
how could I correct it?

I've been searching around for some info on how to set this up, but with no luck.I need to have a .sql file that will set up a few tables and these tables will have relationships and contraints.I can do this by hand in enterprise manager, but need to set up some procedures that will do the same thing.For instance, I can create the tables just fine.....CREATE TABLE students ( sId int NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, studentId varchar(50) NOT NULL, course varchar(50) )

Good day. I was able to connect to a database server using SQL ServerEnterprise Manager. The Server name specified on the tree isJOMARGON(Windows NT). I am implementing the security and add different windows domain group and also assign then appropriate rights and permission.
No i want that if some knows the "sa" password and want to connect to sql server 2005 via query analyzer then message should display to user that u can not login with sa login while using SQL Server Query analyzer.
How i can identify and can display the message?

We are using Win2k3 R2 with SQL 2000 in a domain environment.
Is it possible to create a domain group to grant admin level and user level access to SQL2000/2005 without giving users server admin or domain admin access?
It has always been my impression that to have admin access to SQL that you had to at least had admin level access on the server.
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

In my procedure I need to pull data from a database which is on other server and domain.
As usual I have used the below query but having troubles with mode of authentication.
SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('SQLNCLI', 'Server=x.x.x.xsyz;Trusted_Connection=yes;','SELECT top 10 * FROM pcm.stats.visits') AS a
I get the below error:
"Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication"
I understand from the error that the domain and mode of authentication is different.
I use windows auth and we are given sql auth on the remote server which is on different domain.
I was suggested to use 'sp_addlinkserver' to link the remote server and query the data.
I am just curious to know if we can succeed through link server, is there any script to use sql authentication of remote server in my procedure and pull the data.

I have a project that consists of modifying a report in Crystal. The problem is that I know very little about SQL and I need to add some data items to Crystal using SQL. The guide that I was given refers to Enterprise Manager and SQL Query Analyzer but they have since upgraded to SQL Server Management Studio. Can anyone translate the following statement into SQL Server Management Studio so that I can complete this process?

I am seeing a couple of domain/username accounts trying to access SQL 2k5 SP2 and get the error above. The concern I have is these accounts shouldn't be trying to access SQL at all and do not exist is SQL hence the error The question I have is how can I track down what is trying to use this account and connect to sql? Hi,
We recently upgraded to SQL Server 2005, we've added SSRS to same server. This server is an internal SQL server. I can access to the reports from http://localhost and http://servername/ but how do I access reports I've created from outside of the domain? Does SSRS needed to be installed on an server with IIS and SQL Server 2005 that we can get to from outside? Please help! Thanks.

How to find out whether a domain user has access to sql server or not?
Many domain groups have access to my sql server. I need to check whether a user has access to server or not.
Probably I need to check which windows group the user belongs. This looks more like an o/s question than DB. How do you guys manage this scenario?

When I run the following query from Query Analyzer in SQL Serer 2005, I get a message back that says.
Command(s) completed successfully.
What I really need it to do is to display the results of the query. Does anyone know how to do this?
