Is there a way to import the table definitions and data from an Access database into the 3.5 compact edition? I have no clue where to start. I have a .Net application that uses an Access database to store data. I want to create a windows mobile application for collecting the data and syncing with the PC application. Is the 3.5 compact edition the way to go? How do I get started? I don't even know how to open the interface for the database.
I'm certainly no newbie to programming, but the SQL Server and Windows Mobile stuff is like starting all over in some ways.
we've got a SQL Server 2005 which replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.5. Every 10 to 20 synchronisations we're getting the error mentioned above. A Soft reset of the device helps to make the synchronization working again.
Why is this error happening and how can we resolve this?
BTW, we've also running system that replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.0 without having this problems.
everything is ok for first run. but i leave the program relogin than that error occured ppc2003 second edition devices. Windows mobile 5.0 device works fine. can anybody help me?

I just installed SQL Server Compact Edition, since I am considering using it instead of SQL Server Express for a local database in my application. The documentation mentioned that I could use SQL Server Management Studio Express to connect to the Compact Edition and create and manipulate databases.
To try to connect, I run Management Studio and bring up the "Connect to Server" dialog. Unfortunately, the pull-down list of "Server name"s does not include the SQL Server Compact Edition server. I do not know how to type in the server name manually, so I cannot connect.
To install Compact Edition, I downloaded it and ran "SQLServerCE31-EN.msi". This installed, and I assume registered, a number of DLLs in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server Compact Editionv3.1".
Is there perhaps an additional step that I left out to complete the installation?
Might I need an upgrade to some other components? My Management Studio Version is:
- Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express 9.00.2047.00
I have a ms acssess db acting as a frontend to a Sql Server 2005 db. I have need to have the db setup as a standalone to distribute with the application for times when the 2005 server is unreachable. I have a created CE db that replicates the 2005 version.
What I want to do now is put the CE db on the desktop with the MS access frontend. Based on a user's preferences the connection would direct to the CE version.
The CE engine is loaded on the desktop, I have modified the ADODb connection string to point to the CE db. When I run it I get an error that says: "The provider can't be found. It may not be properly installed."
Here's the connection string:cnxn: ConnectionString = "Provider=microsoft.sqlserver.mobile.oledb.3.1;Data Source=spcd.sdf;User ID=;Password=;"
Am I trying to do something that just isn't going to happen?
I am writing an application that is designed for the desktop, or small group (3 or less) desktops. The application is being deployed using the Cassini web server as a complete "embedded" solution. I wanted to use SQL Server Compact because of its small footprint and because of the synchronization capabilities with SQLServer. Also, it is very easy to deploy vs. SQL Server Express. The idea behind this APP is that someone might use it locally and then decide to subscribe to the service and then connect the same application to a web services application. That being said, and with knowledge of Microsoft's stance on SQL Compact under ASP.NET, I have most everything working and it works great except for one thing. When I add a SQLDataSource to the page and set the connection string to my file and the DataProvider to System.Data.SqlServerCe and then bind a data grid to the SQLDataSource, it runs fine on my development machine, but when I deploy to my clean test machine, I get an error when the page loads saying: Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed. I can create a dataset in code (in fact,in several other places I do) and it works fine. It is just the SQLDataSource(s) that are throwing this error. I have a copy of System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll in the bin folder and I have all of the compact DLL's in the bin folder as well. I can't figure out what I need to do. I also have a reference to the System.Data.SqlServerCe in the web.config file. Can anyone help?
Does the new SQL server Compact edition RC1 (release in Dec 2006) replace the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Device SDK?
OR is this an additional database for specific requirements.
Currently developing against MS SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Device SDK;; if I switch to the Compact edition; is there a migration wiarzrd or Upgrade wizard available?
The SQL Server Compact Edition RC1 has been released and is now available at download center http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=85E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en
Please note that the RC1 page link is the same as CTP page link, we have updated it for RC1. This doesn€™t have ClickOnce files (Zip file) as the same is available with Tools for VS 2005 sp1 beta at download center at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=61289b5d-af86-45dd-8962-e7dcc5221796&displaylang=en
We have blogged about it at http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlservereverywhere/ .
Please check out the RC1 bits.

Hi, Is there a special jdbc driver for SQL Server Compact Edition (2005) available? I'm getting error messages when trying to run java application on Pocket PC (Mobile 5.0):
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: java/sql/DriverManager.getCallerClassLoader()Ljava/lang/ClassLoader; at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(Unknown Source)...
I am looking for C++ example using SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5. I managed to compile and run the "northwindoledb" c++ example, but still, I am looking for source code to 3.5 (And not 3.1).
Using VS2005 SP1, CF2.0, PocketPC Mobile 5.0 emulator.
Im looking for the most simple example I can get to create a db and a table just to understand the very basics of SQL Server Compact Edition.
I did some gui examples posted in MSDN, it worked fine, no problem.
But I don't want to use the toolbox dragging DataGrid, DataSourceBinding or Northwind.sdf, or any of that.
All I need is to be able to create a simple db, a table with two columns, and a connection to do very simple query,
I searched and searched, cannot find my simple guide.
Can anybody help me resolving this?
here is my test.
opened a new project, named MydbTest2 added a reference to System.Data.SqlServerCe added a button to the form1 added a using directive System.Data.SqlServerCe and this is the rest.
I get errors about Error 1 The name 'myConn' does not exist in the current context F:My.VS.ProjectsMydbTest2MydbTest2Form1.cs 33 13 MydbTest2

I am attempting to use the SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (Management Studio) to create/manage a Compact Edition 3.5 database. My problem is that I cannot even create/open the compact database in Management Studio. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA
Problem Creating the Compact Database:
Open 2008 Management Studio
From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...
Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.
Choose <New Database...> as the Database file.
Browse to folder where file will be created (C:MyDatabase#1.sdf was used in my example)
Leave all other field as default selections OR make changes, either way it does not work.
Click OK.
At this point the OK button just becomes disabled and nothing happens. Problem Opening An Existing Compact Database:
Open 2008 Management Studio
From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...
Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.
Choose <Browse for more...> as the Database file and locate a ".sdf" file that I created using VS2008.
Enter password, if any.
Click OK.

Hi All ...I have been following the MS on-line tutorials to get replication setup between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Compact Edition. I get to the point where I run the Configure Web Synchronization and it is running through the process where it is doing the automated configuration of the shared directory - assigning users etc.I have attempted this step with a user account that I expressly created for snapshots and with the Administrator account and get the following error message:* The operation completed successfully. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070000)At first, I thought this was a rights issue due to the fact that I was using an account that I manually created. However, by using the Administrator account (test only until I can figure this out) that should have removed any rights issues associated with accessing the shared directory where the snapshot will reside.Any help in getting this figured out will be greatly appreciated.David L. ==> Is there anything else missing if I intend to use it for development with Visual Studio 2005 (VC++)?
==> What is "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Developer SDK" compared to the one "SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition" I installed? Should I install it?
3- There is also a link, which btw doesn't work at all, that should allow me to download following item:
"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools of VS 2005 sp1"
==> Not being able to have any infos about it, what is the use of it? Should I install it in my environment? If so, any working link where I can download it from?
4- I finally noted, while browsing through SQL Server 2005 CE books online, the following note:
The following programming models are supported by SQL Server Compact Edition:
ADO .NET, accessible by using C# or Microsoft Visual Basic
OLE DB, accessible by using Visual C++ option from within Visual Studio 2005
==> How come that CE is not accessible using ADO.NET model when using VC++?
Is it possible to use SQL Server Compact Edition v3.5 with SQL Server Management Studio? When I attempt to connect to a 3.5 database I get the following error:
"You are trying to access an older version of a SQL Server Compact Edition Database..."
I am using v3.5 beta 2.
If not, is there anything out there that provides a Query Analyzer like interface for viewing data that works with v3.5?
I know that there is no ODBC driver available for SQL Server Compact Edition version 3.5. Do you plan to add an ODBC driver in future release? If yes, is it high in your priority list?
The scenario why I am looking for an ODBC driver is to connect an MS Access application to a SDF file instead of MDB file. This will enable me to easily sync the SDF file with SQL server repository using the new Data Sync Services.
My application uses Sql server 2005 Mobile edition and I want to change to
Sql server 2005 Compact edition.
I have an application that automatically upgrade new version of my software at users (customers sites) It is shipped on a memrory card (SD Card).
I want in my upgrade tool to install Sql server 2005 Compact edition so I do it by running the two cab files :
sqlce30.repl.wce5.armv4i.CAB and sqlce30.wce5.armv4i.CAB
It works ok but I want also to uninstall Sql server 2005 Mobile edition and I do not find out how to do it automatically, First I do not know how to find out if Sql server 2005 Mobile edition is installd and if so how to uninstall it.
I want to do it all automatcally in my upgrade utility because my customers do not know to do it manually by theself.
Second I want to know if I have to use the Sql server 2005 Compact edition Uprade tool to upgrade my clients old databases because the now application works ok without Upgrading the database.
I have installed SQL Server 2005 CE on my computer, but when I try to add a data connection to a CE database in Visual Studio 2005, I cannot find the option "SQL Server 2005 Combact Edition". Why?
I am looking for help ( at beginnners level ) in the use of the newly released / promoted SQL Server Compact Edition (what used to SSEv ).
I have a single user desktop application - not PDA / mobile, which uses JET database today & I need to convert it to current databse as JET is no longer supported under Vista. I understand that it is SQL Server Compact edition. My application is native c++ with no .NET and I would like to keep it that way. Can someone point me to examples, documentation, or any help which will get me going?
Currently, I am connecting to the JET database using ADO and a connection string ( again ADO, not ADO.NET ). Is it just a matter of changing the connection string and making sure that the righ dlls are included and registered?
I'm setting up replication for the 1st time following the steps in the Books Online to get it up and running:
ms-help://MS.SSCE.v31.EN/ssmmain3/html/5a82aa7a-41a3-4246-a01a-2b1e4b2fdfe9.htm. Anyhow, I get down to the section labeled - Create a new SQL Server Compact Edition database and am having a problem. I open SQL Server Management Studio as instructed. I click Connect and then am supposed to select SQL Server Compact Edition - yet can't find that option. And, yes, I've installed Compact Edition on my development laptop. So, how do I get this option so that I can create the local DB for Compact Edition and continue development? UPDATE: Ok, duh moment, I have SQL Server Management Studio Express loaded on my laptop, so did not have the option. I've attempted to uninstall SQL Server Management Studio Express and install the full version from the SQL Server CDs. However, when I go to install the full version it tells me that the management tools are already installed and won't let me install anything. So, how do I get around this so that I can install full version of SQL Server Management Studio and then get the option to connect to the SQL Server Compact Edition? Any help will be appreciated. UPDATE 2: Ok, figured it out. You can't just uninstall SQL Server Management Studio express, you must go in to Add/Remove Programs, SQL Server 2005, Change. Then select to uninstall the Workstation components. Then you can go use the SQL Server install discs to install the full blown SQL Server Management Studio along with the other Workstation components. Thanks ... David L. Collison Any day above ground is a good day!
I have tried to convert my SQL Server Express Database file to SQL Server Compact Edition database file and it successfully. But I have some problem with the FK, I could not see the FK symbol in my new SQL Server Compact Edition database file. So i tried another method to implement the FK which is this code of line here
The second method also has no error but I could not see any FK show. Does anyone has this problem? Any suggestion to solve it? Please do share with me.
Thanks,
Bombie
ps: I attached to sreen shots of my DB, 1 is (SQL Express DB) and another is SQL Compact DB.
My C# .NET application is currently using the System.Data.OleDb namespace to access SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server Express databases. I would like to begin using SQL Server Compact Edition to access a local database that has the same structure as the others. I'd like to use the same code regardless of the data source, so I would prefer to use System.Data.OleDb instead System.Data.SqlServerCe.
Where can I find examples of the use of System.Data.OleDb with SQL Server Compact Edition? Some of the specific questions I have are:
1.) How do I build the connection string for the OleDbConnection object? 2.) What are the limitations, if any, of using OleDb instead of SqlServerCe?
In my IPAQ, I have been using SQL CE for databases with various sizes without any problem. I am creating the databases on my desktop using VS 2005. After I moved to VISTA, I have upgraded my VS 2005 to SP1 and SQL CE to 3.1. My databases which were created before worked without any problem. After I have created my databases via 3.1 on the desktop and moved them to Mobile, I had problems.
1. I specify Max database size parameter as the size of the database 2. If the size of the database is smaller than 16 then I specify 128 3. If the database is old version then program runs without any problems whatever the database size is 4. If the database is created with 3.1 and size is small (20MB, 60MB, etc) no problems arise 5. Ä°f the databse is created with 3.1 and size is large (133MB, 174MB) then dbconnection.Open() command runs indefinitely and program hangs up .
My IPAQ runs "Microsoft Pocket PC Version 4.20.1081" and desktop runs VISTA Home Premium. I have installed VS 2005 SP1.
Hi Can we use Top Clause in the Select statement while using SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition. If not, is there any other workaround available to achieve same results.
I am migrating from MSDE to Sql Server Comapct Edition.I want to how will it affect the code and how large the changes will be. For example will i need to change only the connection string or if some of the methods used by MSDE or not available in the CE version. Any information and ideas reagrding this will be useful.
I am confused about the version numbers for SQL Server Compact/Mobile. It _looks_ like the versions went from CE 2.0 to Mobile 2005 to CE 3.0 (or 3.1). Is this correct? In fact, I found one location the specifically said Compact Edition is the next version of Mobile. In another location I saw Compact Edition referred to as 2005 CE.
This has got me going because I am creating a Mobile/CE app and I keep getting a "Initialize SQL Server Reconciler" and the best information I can find indicates a mismatch between the server component and the client component.
So, what are the current versions of Mobile/CE? Is there a location that lists all of the components and what version they should be?
Hi everyone, I am using VS2005, just installed SP1, and the help -> about window reflects this. I have also installed the SQL Server Compact Edition SDK, but when i try to add a new data source connection (following the MANY tutorials on this), i do not see an option for SQL Server Compact Edition nor do i see an option for SQL Server Mobile. I am at my wits end and i just got started! Yikes... Any thoughts on how to proceed?
