I am newbie to SQL.I need to create an application will run on server, and of course will be installed by using admin user. I can use the install user to access to database on that server?

Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database)

I am using a standard installation of SQL 2005 Express installed with Visual C# Express. I have tried several connection strings, have tried connecting different databases, all of which end up giving me access denied for user <machineName>Greg (Greg is the local admin account for this PC. I found this guideline for connectivity questions (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=362498&SiteID=1), and have gone through it all, posting the answers to questions here. One thing that may be different about this machine is that it is a tablet PC (WinXP Tablet edition) and I am running VMWare Server. I also tried loading it on a WinXP Pro workstation with no VMWare, and have gotten the same results. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a user, who is trying log into the server, but everytime he gets this error saying something about the Group policy denies him access.
This user needs access and i'm trying to understand how to grant it to him.
I have been looking into how i can access the group policy editor, but the farthest i can get is the Local group policy editor. How do i make sure this specific user has access?
My sa account can not see the tables in the db. but can connect to the server

I've a SQL server 2014 running on one of our server. We're in the process of implementing security steps for our databases. I've encrypted a column in one of the table in the database on the server. The issue is when I restore the backup on my local SQL server and run a query to decrypt the column data it gives me null values. On the other end when I decrypt the column data on the main server it works fine. I found a thread on this forum which states to do the following when restoring the encrypted database on different server.

I put mixed authentication mode ( windows and SQL) in SQL 2000 enterprises manager security tab setting.
I can see DB user is available in DB user list on restored DB but can not access DB when I try to access from query analyser
I tried to create new login with same name as it was in SQL 7 and tried to give full admin access on SQL 2000 enterprise manager but I get error 21002:[ SQL DMO] User 'user' already exists.

We have SBS2003 and SQL2000 is running on it. Recently we built a trips database and
Installed trips application on it but the problem is that only the administrator can run Trips application. Other domain users cannot get access to the new trips program. I added the users on database and double checked.
When normal user logs on, these messages show up:

I have been given the responsibility of administering and trying to maintain an enterprise level database (currently 20GB in size) without local admin privileges on the server that houses my database. Is there any documentation available that can either help me get my job done, or help me convince my supervisors that my position requires that level of access?
I understand the concern about the local admins being able to "do whatever they want", as well as the effort to reduce the amount of risk exposure to major accidents. I just want to be able to do my job effectively.

I have a local SQL Server database installed with Visual Studio .NET. I'm trying to create a SQL Server login ID to access a database on this local database. I gave it access to all of the databases with public (the one I'm using it also has DBO and execute permissions on all procs). When I try to login to it through SQL Server Query Analyzer (and also using an ASP.NET application), I get the following error:
Login failed for 'dbuser'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
How do I set up a SQL Server login to access the database?

On a given Analysis Server the machine level OLAP Administrators group controls which users have admin access to AS Databases and Cubes on that machine. From everything I have read, if you are in the OLAP Administrators group you have full access to administer ALL the databases and cubes.
We have a need to create a OLAP database and grant a few users (a role) full admin access to create and maintain datasouces and cubes within that database but NOT allow them admin access to the other existing databases and cubes on the server. This seems like such a common requirement. Has anyones else encountered and resolved this issue.

I've created a local server from Sql Express, and report server from Reporting service configuration manager, and than publish a report on the local report server. I want to give access to the other computer user to the sql reports, database and report server.

I have installed MS SQL 2005 in my system. I have created one database in my server. When iam running my application with this connections it is working fine in my local system. When i uploaded the database to some where dataserver, Iam not getting the connectins due to no remote access .
Some body suggested that to start the SQL browser in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
I go there n tried to start the service when i put the service properties to Automatic or Manual i am getting the error message that is saying that the service is disabled cannot start automatically.
What could be the wrong?

The requirement is to customize database admin activities by creating new user group.
Need to create a group of user / dbauser1 which will have restriction in seeing the data but they should be able to alter database - add / remove the data file , increase or decrease the data file space when required.

Currently we have a MIS application, developed in VB 6.0 - SQL Server 2000 platform, which is used by around 60 users in our office.
We are planning to host a website remotely, which would allow clients to place orders, track order status etc. on it.
Would it be possible to access our local SQL database from the remote website?
We are using Win2k3 R2 with SQL 2000 in a domain environment.
Is it possible to create a domain group to grant admin level and user level access to SQL2000/2005 without giving users server admin or domain admin access?
It has always been my impression that to have admin access to SQL that you had to at least had admin level access on the server.
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I've been running the Ola Hallengren maintenance script for the last five months without missing a beat. Today I find an error stating the UserDatabase Integrity check job failed last night. This is running on SQL Server 2014 BI edition w/64 Gigs.
I ran a DBCC CHECKDB on each database manually and all worked until I tried it on the biggest one that is about 18 gbs. It just keeps running and I eventually stopped it so I'm guessing it is memory, but doesn't make sense considering it has 64 gbs. I have it set to 64/4 max / min. Again, this was never an issue until last night.I've been looking up all morning, but not seeing much on this error "The operating system returned error 1453"?
I need to determine the following about the current authenticated Windows domain user who is trying to access a SQL Server via a trusted connection.
1 Has the current user been granted login access to the trusted SQL Server?
2 Has the current user been granted access to a specific database?
3 Is the current user a member of a specific database role such as (DB_ROLE_ADMINISTRATORS)?

I would like to find Query to retrieve User DataBase Startup Time from SQL server that we see in the Sql Server Log.
I was able to find the Server Startup Time but not the individual Databases .
I have system database and user database file are present in G,H and W drive.The process is going to be - copy data from G to S, H to T, W to U. Rename G to X, H to Y and W to Z. Rename S to G, T to H and U to W. Reboot the servers. The original G, H and W will then be X, Y and Z. The old S will be the new G, old T will be H and old U will be W. My question is that after doing this whether my SQL server will start or not

Data files share has been permissioned to the SQL Server service and SQL Server Agent service accounts as Full Control. NTFS Permissions are Full Control.
When I try to attach a database

If I log into the file server (called APRICOT) and look at the NTFS permissions they all look good. I have also reapplied the NTFS permissions from the root folder down.

If I log on to one of the nodes in the cluster as the SQL Server service account and navigate to apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATA and copy and paste the data file, it works fine.

If I log on to the file server and Enable Inheritance at the root level, then Replace all child objects with inheritable permission entries from this object, I get this error:

O what a place to be I started this Contract as an (Interim) for a new DBA role, for an application support Company last month & all was going well. The User Application is run via Citrix against multiple Hosted Sybase ASA Databases. I introduced SQL 2005 with Reporting Services as a mixed Data Mart Remote Query via ODBC Linked Servers setup. Because they had never had a DBA before the Data I was able to pull from over thirty seperate databases into one and present via Reporting Services has blown them away. And then one day the Senior Support Analyst told me he had put the main most important Sybase Database on a completely seperate domain he had created(with no Trust between the two) , because he was unable to secure the existing domain against unauhorized remote internet intrusion & Viruses. (I never liked the idea that hosted customers were domainusers on the Corporate network) To add insult to injury he then told me to install & maintain another SQL Box on the new domain, OK so far. I logged into the supoposed new box via citrix & then remote desktop, and to my disbelief he had the desktop locked down - no access to control panel or anything - he asked me why i needed access - I told him - he asked me why I need to have reboot priveleges - I told him. So now he's installed 2005 himself in the vain hope I can work without Local Admin privelages or need to unlock the Desktop - he certainly won't give me Domain Admin. I Just cannot believe I'm unable to persuade him to Unlock the Desktop & have even threatened to walk out unless he lets me do my Job. He probably does'nt like me but there can be absolutely no question about my abilities or accessing data that i should'nt. He's basically read a Deny by Default article and expects me to start of as a user with a locked desktop and then request & justify escalating my security from there. Is this possible ? i have a test sql server. personal Edition Sp2. i loggoed on with a domain account that is part of local admin group. i was surprised when i found that i don't have enough access to work on the database like create and restore databases
i tried to log on with sa but password not succeeded i don't remember that i had changed the password or put a difficult one.
i also tried from the local administrator i also couldn't get the permission !!

Can anyone translate this error for me and give me some tips on what do to.I checked first the user running the sql express service and saw it was the NETWORK SERVICE user. I changed it to be the local system account but that did not make any difference. The application is running just fine on my local computer(Win XP sp2). This one has SQL express April edition though.

The company I work for outsources all its non-development IT. So all windows servers are administered by an outside company. Lately we have purchased SQL Server 2005, along with a dedicated Windows Server 2003 server. I am the sole administrator of this SQL Server, and so have sysadmin rights. However because the outside company is responsible for all windows servers, they are very reluctant to grant me local administrator rights on the server. This has been causing problems, partly because I have to go through them for many simple requests (such as moving database files, or changing SQL Server configuration files), and partly because certain functionality doesn't seem to work for non-administrators (such as the use of Database Mail and full access to Reporting Services).
I want to challenge the decision and gain local admin rights to the server. Would anyone have further reasons why a sysadmin should also have local admin rights? Is this common practice, or are sysadmins often denied admin access to the server?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My replication is not working. I was able to create a transactional replication successfully. However, when i tried starting the agent on the snapshot, it wouldn't work. I figure that it was because my agent service login is different from that of the subscriber. my publisher and distributor is on local user whereas my subsciber sql services use our global login.

When I try to give a login access to a database I get the message:
Error 21002: [SQL-DMO] users already exist in the database.
I checked sysusers for the database and the users name is in there, even if the user has no login.
Is it okay to just delete the record that has the users name from sysusers?
