Accessing 2 Millions Records Using Full Text Searc

Apr 25, 2008

Hi,
My full text search on 2 millions records is taking time to show the result.
I have created full text catalog in RAM drive to make the retrival process faster.
But still its taking more than 1 minute to get the matching pattern.
I am using SQL server 2005. I have 2 columns (id,text) in my table..

This is my unique index script

USE [SAMPLE]
GO
CREATE UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [ui_productid] ON [dbo].[Products]
(
[id] ASC
)WITH (SORT_IN_TEMPDB = OFF, DROP_EXISTING = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ONLINE = OFF) ON [PRIMARY]..

This is my primary key index script..
USE [SAMPLE]
GO
ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Products] ADD CONSTRAINT [PK_Products] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[id] ASC
)WITH (SORT_IN_TEMPDB = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ONLINE = OFF) ON [PRIMARY]..

This is my query..

SELECT D.[id], D.productname
FROM dbo.Products AS D
WHERE CONTAINS(productname, 'ford')

What should i do to show the result in 3-4 seconds.

Full Text Searching....THOUSANDS Of Records!

Sep 12, 2005

Hope I am in the correct section.

I am installing a FTS system on an existing system (that used LIKE % queries!!  hahaha)

Anyway, it is working pretty well (AND FAST!) but when I type in a
common word like "damage" I get like 32,000 records.  Now, the
server handles those records in about one second but the ASP page that
returns the results takes about one MINUTE to download.  When I
save the source, it is almost 12 MEGS!!

So, basically, I am streaming 12 megs across the pipe and I want to reduce that.

I would like the system to detect over maybe 500 records and cancel the search.

I have put a "TOP 500" into the search and that actually works pretty well but is there a better/smarter method?

Thanks!

SQL Server 2005 Full Text Performance With Large Number Of Records

Dec 12, 2007

Hi
We are using the SQL Server 2005 Full Text Service. The data is not huge, but the kind of data is that each record is small and there are a large number of records. There are 35 million records now with 11 GB of data and about 1.6 GB of FT catalog on the table. This is expected to grow to at least 10 times the size of this data. The issue is with FTS taking a long time to return results when the number of hits (rows) getting returned from FTS is large for some searches, it takes a very long time. With the same data & catalog, those full text queries for less common words return timely. The nature of the problem doesnt allow us to only have top results. We need all the results. So it’s not about the size of data but the number of results getting returned from FT. (As the catalog is inverted). The machine is dual processor with 4 GB RAM.

I am considering splitting the table and hence the catalog and using multiple servers to do full text searches in smaller catalogs. Is there any other way this issue can be solved ?

If splitting is the only way, can you give me an idea as to what is a statistical/standard limit to the number of search results/cataog size as which FTS gives good results

Thanks in advance

Migration Millions Of Records

Aug 19, 2007

Hi

Please guide me for the below given problem.

While doing migration by using cursors for the below given sample data its taking more hours to complete the process. Therefore want to know is there any way I can do it in simple query.

ACNo Amount Balance CalType
A001 10 10 +
A001 10 20 -
A001 40 40 +
A001 10 30 -
A002 90 90 +
A002 20 110 +
A002 40 150 +
A003 10 30 +
A003 10 40 +
A003 10 30 -
A004 40 40 +
A004 10 30 -

Iam having Amount value alone and Balance has to be calculated value based on CalType. At the same time the Balance has to be reset as 0 when AcNo has changed.

Please guide me for the faster approach.

Millions Records Archiving And Delete

Feb 27, 2007

The iussue:Sql 2KI have to keep in the database the data from the last 3 months.Every day I have to load 2 millions records in the database.So every day I have to export (in an other database as historical datacontainer) and delete the 2 millions records inserted 3 month + one day ago.The main problem is that delete operation take a while...involvingtransaction log.The question are:1) How can I improve this operation (export/delete)2) If we decide to migrate to SQL 2005, may we use some feature, as"partitioning" to resolve the problems ? In oracle I can use the "truncatepartition" statement, but in sql 2005, I'm reading, it cant be done.This becouse we can think to create a partition on the last three mounts tosplit data. The partitioning function can be dinamic or containing afunction that says "last 3 months ?" I dont think so.May you help usthank youMastino

Comparing Millions Of Records From File A And B

Sep 11, 2006

I'm trying to compare about 28 million records (270 length) from table A and B using the Lookup task as described in this forum. The process works fine with about two million records or so on my desktop ( p.4 3.39GHz, 1.5 GB Ram), but hangs with the amount of data I'm trying to process. I tried using full and partial caching, but to no avail. I'm thinking this is a hardware resource problem. So, does anyone has any recommendation on the hardware needed for this kind of operation and/or suggestion? Thanks in advance...

Querying 9.5 Millions Records With No Primary Key

Sep 4, 2007

Hello all
quick question-- Im looking for the most effiecient way to extract data daily from a table with some 9.5 mill records and growing. These are transaction records and ideally I would like to bring over the last days transactions and add them to my existing table. I cannot use the transaction date as sometime we have to operate in an "Offline" mode where the records are brought over sometime later. This could be days are unfortunetaly a week or more. there are some 30 fields in the transaction table so is there a more efficient way to do this simply creating a concatenated key?? Would it be more effiecient to drop and recreate the table daily? that sounds extreme so wanted to get a few ideas.

Thanks in Advance

SQL 2012 :: Accurate Sorting Data Each Time With Millions Of Records Without Time Field?

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

[Code] ....

It seems to work fine with one million records.

Each primary key is unique, but the begindate is non-unique, and i guess even if i use datetime2 and add nanoseconds, from what i have read, there is a chance that i could have a duplicate datetime since the date is imported via XML from multiple sources.

Adding A Full Text Search Across Multiple Tables (with Text Fields)

Sep 7, 2007

Hi, i'm trying to do a full text search on my site to add a weighting score to my results.  I have the following database structure:
Documents: - DocumentID (int, PK) - Title (varchar) - Content (text) - CategoryID (int, FK)
Categories: - CategoryID (int, PK) - CategoryName (varchar)
I need to create a full text index which searches the Title, Content and CategoryName fields.  I figured since i needed to search the CategoryName field i would create an indexed view.  I tried to execute the following query:
CREATE VIEW vw_DocumentsWITH SCHEMABINDING ASSELECT dbo.Documents.DocumentID, dbo.Documents.Title, dbo.Documents.[Content], dbo.Documents.CategoryID, dbo.Categories.CategoryNameFROM dbo.Categories INNER JOIN dbo.Documents ON dbo.Categories.CategoryID = dbo.Documents.CategoryID
GOCREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX vw_DocumentsIndexON vw_Documents(DocumentID)
But this gave me the error:
Cannot create index on view 'dbname.dbo.vw_Documents'. It contains text, ntext, image or xml columns.
I tried converting the Content to a varchar(max) within my view but it still didn't like.
Appreciate if someone can tell me how this can be done as surely what i'm trying to do is not ground breaking.

SQL Server 2000 Full Text Search (extract Pieces Of Text)

Sep 12, 2007

Hello everyone !
I want to perform Full Text Search with SQL Server 2000. My documents (.doc, .xls, .txt, .pdf) are stored in a SQL Server field which is binary (the type of the column is image).
I would like to know, how you can extract pieces of text from the documents.
Example:
I have a ASPX page with codebehind in C# making the search in a table in SQL server that is full text indexed.
I make a search looking for the word "peace", than SQL server will take care about the search and return it to me the rows that match with that. But also I'd like to extract the 50 characters before and after where sql server found the word "peace" to show in the result page.
Does anyone has any idea how to work around it ?
 Best regards.
Yannick

'Assign keyword as typed to variable
strKeywordAsTyped = txtSearchFor.Text
'Assign keyword as typed to variable then convert it to all uppercase
strKeywordAllCaps = txtSearchFor.Text
strKeywordAllCaps = strKeywordAllCaps.ToUpper
'Assign keyword as typed to variable then convert it to all lowercase

'Assign keyword as typed to variable then convert it so just the first letter is in uppercase
strKeywordFirstLetterCap = txtSearchFor.Text
FirstLetter = strKeywordFirstLetterCap.Chars(0)
FirstLetter = FirstLetter.ToUpper
strKeywordFirstLetterCap = strKeywordFirstLetterCap.Remove(0, 1)
strKeywordFirstLetterCap = strKeywordFirstLetterCap.Insert(0, FirstLetter)

'If the string contains the keyword as typed in all caps all lowercase or w/ the 1st letter in caps then flag that row.
If strMsg.IndexOf(strKeywordAsTyped) <> -1 Or strMsg.IndexOf(strKeywordAllCaps) <> -1 Or strMsg.IndexOf(strKeywordAllLower) <> -1 Or strMsg.IndexOf(strKeywordFirstLetterCap) <> -1 Then

=(report!txtempname.value)

This works fine. However when table2 gets populated on of the subsequent pages, the value in the header disappears. It is visible only for the 1st 10 pages where the table 1 data is there.

How to make sure that the value of the header displays for all the pages

Trigger Question (accessing Affected Records)

May 13, 2004

I'm sure this is a simple question, but I haven't had any luck finding an answer.

With a trigger, how do I access the modified/updated/deleted rows? The point of all this is I need to a database that maintains lockout procedures to email certain people when one of these procedures gets updated/added. I want to be able to build a link that points to our webserver (the interface for the lockout db) and to do this, I need certain fields of the affected records.

Let me know if I need to clarify anything. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A full-text search key must be a unique, non-nullable, single-column index which is not offline, is not defined on a non-deterministic or imprecise nonpersisted computed column, and has maximum size of 900 bytes. Choose another index for the full-text key.

also I tried the wizard in the managment express but it does not have a option when I right click on the table for Full-Text Index

what am I doing wrong???

Oct 18, 2007

I created a new catalog and a new index but when I start a search the grid come back empty I didnt insert any data into the table until after I created the catalog and index I dont think it has indexed the data yet. How do I force this or make it???? I have another example where I inserted data and then created the catalog and index and did a search and the proper rows came back but then I inserted new data and searched on a keyword that should have brought it up but nothing showed?

SQL Parameters With Full-Text

Jun 24, 2006

Hi,
I have a SQL statement that works great when I don't use a SQL Parameter, but when I do it just takes the @Searchfor as literal text "@SearchFor" instead of the string @SearchFor represents.  Any ideas?  Below is the two versions of the sql statements
sqlComm.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@SearchFor", strSearchFor));
sqlComm.CommandText = "SELECT RANK, intID,  chTitle, chDescription "
"FROM FREETEXTTABLE( tblItems, *, 'ISABOUT("+ strSearchFor +" WEIGHT(1.0))') a " +
"JOIN tblItems b on a.[KEY] = b.intID ORDER BY RANK DESC; ";

sqlComm.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@SearchFor", strSearchFor));
sqlComm.CommandText = "SELECT RANK, intID,  chTitle, chDescription " +
"FROM FREETEXTTABLE( tblItems, *, 'ISABOUT(@SearchFor WEIGHT(1.0))') a " +
"JOIN tblItems b on a.[KEY] = b.intID ORDER BY RANK DESC; ";

Full-Text CONTAINS Null

Jul 16, 2006

I have a Full-text search that is being performed on a variable (@Description)  see part of querie below:
WHERE (CONTAINS([Description], @Description)
This search only seems to work when a text fo 3 or greater characters is used Ball, but not for "an" or "a". it also does not search on part of a word i.e. "Gard" of "Garden"
Two things:
1) How do I perform the CONTAINS search for part of a word or "a".
2) How do I perform a search that returns all values, when I leave the input feild blank it returns no records.
Many thanks in advance

Regarding.....Full Text Implementation..........

Sep 21, 2007

I have implemented Full text search in my web application.
I am using sql server 2005 database.
I used “contains “Keyword for full text search.
These are syntax as given below: CONTAINS    ( { column | * } , '< contains_search_condition >'     )  < contains_search_condition > ::=         { < simple_term >         | < prefix_term >         | < generation_term >         | < proximity_term >         | < weighted_term >         }         | { ( < contains_search_condition > )         { AND | AND NOT | OR } < contains_search_condition > [ ...n ]         }
My search gives correct results according to AND NOT and OR.
But, it is not working if I used AND.
Please give me solution.
Its very urgent for me……
