Accessing Reporting Services From Internet Issues...

Dec 5, 2006

I have installed SQL Express 2K5 with Reporting Services on a server (on our
private LAN) running Server 2003 with SP1.

I have requested our ISP to forward port 80 from one of our public IP
addresses to the private IP address of the server - I am reasonably confident
this is setup properly since they have successfully configured other port
forwards for me in the past.

With that said, when I try to access the reporting web site from the
internet, I receive an IE error message indicating "Internet Explorer cannot
display the webpage." I am able to view the reporting website from within
the LAN. Windows Firewall is currently disabled.

Am I missing something? Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly
appreciated.

Need Help Getting Reporting Services Setup For Internet Access

Feb 29, 2008

I have report server setup on the same machine where the sql server 2005 db is setup, as well as iis running the website. i simply need to get report server running to allow internet access. I have report server setup so that it is running locally (localhost), however, as soon as I change the iis site settings to a domain name, report server stops working properly. This looks like a permissions issue, Ive tried different combinations of settings, but nothing works. Any insight on how I can get report server setup for internet access (forms authentication), would be much appreciated.

thanks, lance

How Do I Pass Parameters In Reporting Services Over The Internet ?

Sep 15, 2007

I have developed some Reports using Reporting Services and I want to deploy them for access over the Internet.

These Reports allow the Users to specify parameters, such as Start and End Dates.

I am told that a User Interface has to be developed manually to provide this facility for some kind of security reason.

This seems very bizarre and the reason doesn€™t make much sense.

Is this really true ?

Thanks very much

Reporting Services--Problem In Accessing The Subreport Value

Mar 26, 2008

Hi All,

I have a table report which has 10 fields as cols.The last 2 fields come from 2 diffrent subreport, having a single field each. There are also 2 groups in this table. I have to limit the rows by checking each cell in a group is 0. If all the cells have got a 0 then hide the row. I can check for all the cells except the last 2(Subreport).

Since the last 2 cells has only got 2 subreports instead of a textbox( as it is the case for the remaining 8 cells), i don't know how to check for data returning from a subreport. For all the other textboxes i have checked it as ReportItems!textbox1.value=0

Can anyone help me with this Please?

Thanks & Regards,
Payal

Accessing SQL Server Via ODBC Through The Internet

Nov 24, 2006

Hi,

I am migrating from MySQL 5 to SQL Server Express 2005 (SP1) and I am having some remote connections issues. I have tried just about everything that I have read in the forums and in Microsoft's knowledge base about remote connections with SQL Server. I am using Visual FoxPro 9 as my client and connecting with ODBC to SQL Server. The strange thing about my issue is that I can connect just fine with localhost or using my LAN IP address. Before I get to the errors, here is what I have configured:

Remote connections are allowed, TCP is active, SQL Browser service is active and running, my router forwards requests on ports 4567 (my custom port that I setup IP1 in SQL Server Configuration Manager to listen on), 1433 and 1434 (TCP and UDP for all) to my local IP address. My firewall will not block ports 4567, 1433 or 1434 (TCP and UDP for all). I even tried turning my firewall off.

For example, the following connection strings work. The first works when I am at the same computer as my SQL Server, the second works from a different computer on the same LAN.

Driver=SQL Native Client;Server=localhostsqlexpress;Database=xyz;Uid=adm;Pwd=pw

Driver=SQL Native Client;Server=192.168.1.3sqlexpress;Database=xyz;Uid=adm;Pwd=pw

When I try the following connection strings (with either my hostname or internet IP address, I get one of several failures):

Driver=SQL Native Client;Server=my.domain.comsqlexpress;Database=xyz;Uid=adm;Pwd=pw

The above strings yields this error message: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]

Driver=SQL Native Client;Server=my.domain.comsqlexpress,1433;Database=xyz;Uid=adm;Pwd=pw

Driver=SQL Native Client;Server=my.domain.comsqlexpress,4567;Database=xyz;Uid=adm;Pwd=pw

Using either the SQL default port or a custom port yields this error message: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Login timeout expired Connectivity error: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

The fact that I can connect with my LAN and not on the internet suggests that my ISP may be blocking port 1433. For this reason I tried to change the port my SQL Server instance was listening on but I have a feeling it isn't working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've been stuck on this problem. Is there any way to test if my SQL server instance is actually listening on my custom defined port? Thanks in advance.

Migrate From 32bit 2000 Reporting Services To 2005 64bit Reporting Services

Mar 22, 2008

Hello,

I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)

It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?

Any help is appreciated

Compatibility Of SQL Express Reporting Services With SQL 2000 Reporting Services

Dec 6, 2006

I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.

One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:

Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets?
Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?

Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

PLEASE HELP - Accessing Web Services Through Windows App

Mar 6, 2007

I am running a vb.net application that is using the Web Service to
issue Update Snapshot. There is a Windows account we are using as a
Service account that has the proper permissions to Generate Events.
The application is running on AutoSys on a 2003 server. I have
confirmed that it will run under this users credentials manually by
logging into the server as the user and firing the app. It works
without a problem. This was using Default Credentials.

The AutoSys job is configured to run under this user's credentials.
There are three ways I have executed this application

>>Through AutoSys running as the user with the proper permissions (this is in place of a Local Service account which is default for AutoSys. This windows user has local admin permissions on the AutoSys server as well as Generate Event permission as confirmed before)
>>By logging into the server as Administrator and executing the app with "Run As..." set to the Windows ID
>>By switching to new.NetworkCredentials and passing the hardcoded username/pass/domain

For all of the above scenarios - it fails

The ONLY time it successfully issues UpdateSnapshot is when I am
logged in to the server as the user in question. In ALL other
instances detailed above it fails and the following comes out of the
event log

"Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 'MyDomainName'.

I have no idea why it is choking on the Domain Name in all three of
those scenarios.

Do I need to impersonate that user through code when passing the Web
Service credentials??

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help - I need to wrap this up. ANY HELP WOULD BE
GREATLY APPRECIATED

Problems Accessing Integration Services

Nov 7, 2007

I recently installed Integration Services on one of our SQL 2005 servers running SP2. For starters I keep getting a warning message during the system test that indicates that there is a difference between the version that is installed and the version I am trying to install. I am using the same media I used for the initial server installation. I am assuming that this message is showing up due to the fact that the media is pre SP 2 and the server is now running SP2 allong with build/hotfix #3200. None the less the installation seems to have completed without errors. The problem I am having is when I connect to Integration services and try to expand the different directories I get the following error

Reporting Services :: Localization Data In Reporting Services?

Jul 27, 2015

I work in a big project and we will begin in using reporting services as the base technique for reports and I will be responsible for this part. but I have a problem I will discuss in the following:

Currently: We use currently devexpress reports and we have 2 languages(Arabic and English). the data in tables saved in two ways (Arabic and English). when the end user change the language of the web site the report data language changed when run it.

Example:

we have table with (ID, NAME_AR, NAME_EN, JobTitle_AR, JobTitle_EN). designed report will display(ID, NAME_EN, JobTitle_EN) . but the end user change the language of the system the report will

dispaly(ID, NAME_AR, JobTitle_AR)

Hint:this done pragmatically

how to do this in reporting services.

Problem W/ Script Task Accessing Directory Services

May 25, 2006

Using the example from SS online books:

The code is this:
Public Sub Main()
Dim directory As DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher
Dim result As DirectoryServices.SearchResult
Dim email As String
email = Dts.Variables("email").Value.ToString
Try
directory = New _
DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher("(mail=" & email & ")")
result = directory.FindOne
Dts.Variables("name").Value = _
result.Properties("name").ToString()
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
Catch ex As Exception
Dts.Events.FireError(0, _
"Script Task Example", _
ex.Message & ControlChars.CrLf & ex.StackTrace, _
String.Empty, 0)
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Failure
End Try
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
End Sub
End Class

My problem is I'm not getting a value for 'Name' instead when I display in a dataflow task (using dataviewer)following the script task the value of Name = 'System.DirectoryServices.ResultPropertyValueCollection'

It's seems like it is telling me its property not the value. I'm not a VB/.Net developer so I'm just guessing as to what the value means.

Any help would be appreciated.

Accessing Report Services Using Form Authentication Against Active Directory

Nov 21, 2007

I hope someone can help.

I'm working on a web project that will display the reports in an iframe to the user. When I was using windows security It worked perfectly.

Now my boss wants me to use form based authentication instead that can authenticate against our current Active Directory. This is working perfectly and does authenticate correctly. The only problem is that when I load a report in the iframe http://myserver/reportserver/myreport-blah reporting services prompts the user to enter in windows credentials. Is there anyway to pass my form credentials to the report server so that the user doesn't have to log in again.

Both the report server and the web app are on the same server BUT in different virtual directories.

PS: I tried using the reportviewer control but it does not display things correctly. For example, I have use a multi select dropdown on the reports and it messes up the drop down when the user only has 1 selection (hiding the selection). If the user has more than one selection the drop down uses scroll bars. I would use the reportviewer control if it displayed exactly like it does when using alternate URL method.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks!

Integration Services :: Schema Separation - Accessing Multiple Databases

Nov 8, 2015

We have a system that uses 3 databases, one for Membership db standard MS membership only the application has access to that data, one with User Data which we would like to make multi-tenant using Schema-Separation, and a third read-only reference db which is Common Market data for all users.we anticipate Tenant numbers in the thousands.Current we have multiple queries which create joins between the Main db and the Reference database using something like

Selec S.*, M.ScheduleDate, M.substation from Sites S left outer join Market.dbo.MarketUnit M where S.MarketUnitID = M.MarketUnitID

i'm planning to have a new schema for each Tenant on the Main Database, so I would create a Schema T1 for the first customer, a user T1User with access to T1 schema.  and grant T1User access to Market.dbo. My First question is are there any concerns about the above T1User setup? My second question is, are there any tools which would automate the setup of the multi-tenant with schema separation, or should I just script the whole Main Database schema creation and replace schema name globally and then execute the script?

My Third question, how about upgrade and updates... currently using VS to compare dev/qa/prod database to identify changed which need to be promoted, and pushing updates...  this could be a big pain to promote code to thousands of Schemas.  grantedwe will likely keep the overall number of schemas spread over different SQL servers.

To Access Reporting Sevices (Report Manager, Reporting Web Services), Does One Has To Be An Admin On The Machine

Mar 12, 2007

Hi There,

Our DBA has installed reporting services on a server and now in order to access the report manager, one has to be an Admin on that Server. I am guessing that there is a mistake in the configuration of Reporting Services. Usually it should allow anybody who was added to the roles in the properties section of the Report Manager, right? I have also added the users to the DB..

Also I am using Windows Authentication to access Report Catalog items (Reporting Services is installed on Server2) from a web Application(deployed on Server1) and displaying the report using report viewer. For some reason, server1 has to be in an Admin role on Server2 to access the report catalog/report. This is kinda strange for me as I don't want everybody to be an Admin on Server2. Can anybody please point in the right direction?

Thanks.

Reporting Services :: Real Time Reporting In SSRS?

Jun 19, 2015

We've got a requirement to build the real time report. user can browse report at any point of time and need to see the latest data(stock market) in the report.

I've few options down...

1. Directly point to OLTP database as source and write stored procedure to show result set.

2. Replicate the database and write the SP's to reports. To avoid pointing directly to OLTP db.

3. To build the datawarehouse with dim & facts to show it in reports. I prefer this as a standard method, but this would have some latency depending on trasaction load which will differ from the requirement.

Which reports were requested, by whom , how long did they run for, what parameters were passed etc etc.

I see that the system tables do provide some of this information, is there a 3rd party tool or something we can use to gather all this type of information for us?

This is for reporting services 2000 and 2005.

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2008 R2 - HTTP Error 503 - The Services Is Unavailable

Jul 23, 2010

We built our prod server [vm] with SQL Server 2008 R2 on Server 2008 R2.  It works nicely.  Then we made a copy of the VM and renamed it (so our test environment would be IDENTICAL to production).  After that, SSRS was broken: I get "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable."  I can't connect via http, or SSMS.

We have tried:

* Running SSRS config tool (several times)

* Running with/without the IIS Server Role

* Dropping & recreating the SSRS keys

* Recreating the ReportServer database, etc

* Checking all of the accounts, permissions, etc

* Running SQL Repair

* Going through the registry to fix any references to the machine's old name

* Uninstalling, reinstalling SSRS

* Completely uninstalling ALL of the parts of SQL Server 2008 R2, deleting all directories, removing references to SQL Server from the registry, rebooting, reinstalling everything.

None of this has worked.  SSRS [R2] is still 503 on our test box.

the SSRS [NT] service seems to run, without error.  The Event Viewer doesn't seem to be recording any errors.  The SSRS logs say that the default URL is wrong, but we get the same error in Prod, and Prod works fine.  The other SQL Logs say something about not being able to contact the service.  However, as I said, the [NT] service seems to be working fine.

Reporting Services - Analysis Services - Displaying Dimension Members As Columns

Dec 3, 2006

I think I've seen a similar post on a blog or on the forums - but it seems like this should be possible -

I have an MDX query - that works fine in SQL Enterprise Manager, and has my dimension members on columns, and my measures on the rows. When I try the same query in Reporting Services, I get the error:

"The query cannot be prepared: The query must have at least one axis. The first axis of the query should not have multiple hierarchies, nor should it reference any dimension other than the Measures dimension..
Parameter name: mdx (MDXQueryGenerator)"

Although it works when you pivot the view, I really need my data presented with the members on the columns and the measures on the rows. Another forum post mentioned using the SQL 9.0 driver, but I can't see this listed anywhere (the only one I see is the .NET framework Data Provider for Microsoft Analysis Services).

Here's what my query looks like -

SELECT
{ [Time].[Month].&[2006-09-01T00:00:00] ,
[Time].[Month].&[2006-10-01T00:00:00],
[Time].[Month].&[2006-11-01T00:00:00],
[Time].[Month].&[2006-12-01T00:00:00]
} on COLUMNS,
{
[Measures].[Unique Users],
[Measures].[UU Pct 1],
[Measures].[UU Pct 2],
} ON ROWS

Any ideas?
