I have created several reports in SRS and I deploy them by establishing a VPN connection than deploying. That much works fine.
Now I want to allow user of my website to access the reports by clicking on a link. Do I need to establish user level access for the reports for each user or just one public access account? How do I pass login and credential information with the link so that users can access the report.
Hi all, I hope this is a simple issue that I'm overlooking something or have contradicting permissions set somewhere. I have a fairly basic site with a subfolder containing an aspx page. The user logs in to gain access to the subfolder. That part works fine.On another page(also within a subfolder in the subfolder), they can post form data to a database (SQL Server 2000) which exists on a different server than my web server. This page opens fine, but when submitting the data (only one value to one field for my testing purposes), it bombs and returns the error "Login failed for user"...In my connection string I've specified the username and password which I assigned to the db in Enterprise Manager (not sa, btw). I've also tried letting IIS control the UID/PW, and even specified no UID/PW in either the connection string or the db. Anonymous access enabled in IIS for this virtual directory also returns the error. (?)I should mention that in Visual Studio, the connection string was automatically set to my local development machine's workstation ID. I removed that and have tried replacing it with the server name, blank, etc.(in notepad) - to no avail. dll's are in their proper places, etc. The only thing not working is the database connection.Using: IIS v6, SQL Server 2000, and Visual Studio.NET 2003 (1.1 framework)Anyway - any suggestions? There are so many places to enable/disable permissions, it's getting confusing. I hope it's something I'm overlooking and not a problem with our SQL installation...Thanks!--Donnie
I have developed a number of reports on Win XP with VS2005. They run on our development server, which is running Windows Server 2003 32-bit. I then deploy these reports on our production server, which is running Windows Server 2003 64-bit edition.
Accessing any of the reports from Report Manager results in javascript errors, such as 'Line 41 Error: 'RSClientController' is undefined'
I get these errors also when invoking these reports through a form post.
It appears that some javascript code generated by the report server is missing. Could this be a 32-bit vs 64-bit issue? Report Manager seems to work fine; it is only when I run a report that I have this problem. This is the first time I've tried to deploy reports to this server.
We will making a change to our Reporting Services deployment next month. We will be moving from our SQL 2000 server to a new SQL 2005 server. In addition, we will moving from a Local Catalog Deployment to a Remote Catalog Deployment. My question is this: Is there a way I can prevent my team from having to manually redeploy our reports in the new system? They have not been diligent about saving the Visual Studio solution or project files, so they will have to pull the most up-to-date RDL's off the server and deploy them on the new server one by one.
I suppose I can install SQL 2000 on the new server first, then move the Reporting Services databases to the new server, then upgrade the server to 2005, but installing 2000 and upgrading to 2005 does not sound like a best practice. I would prefer a clean install of 2005. Does anyone know if I can move the deployed reports from one server to another?
Hi All, we are changing some reports from English to German...some of the reports that we have changed generate the message 'An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.'
Hello, We have successfully developed the reports on our testing machine with SQL Server 2000 Enterprise + Reporting Services 2000 Enterprise. Is there any problem if we deploy the reports to the production machine that runs SQL Server 2000 Standard and Reporting Services 2000 Standard?
Drill through bar charts work great in the report designer preview, but as soon as I deploy the report, and view the report in a webpage, drill through does not work smoothly.
I have to move the mouse around to be able to find a place on the bar to click through to the next report. Sometimes, I am able to click on the bar to go to next report, but then sometimes I have to click on the label, and other times somewhere in the vicinity of the label.
I tried to deploy reports from VS 2005 on Dev to Prod (different domain, in WSS integration mode) , but VS keeps showing the login window ...
I set up TargetDataSourceFolder, TargetReportFolder and TargetServerURL in VS 2005 on my Dev machine as mentioned in MSDN article "Deploying Reports, Models, and Shared Data Sources to a SharePoint Site" and tried to deploy reports to Prod machine. But VS 2005 keeps showing "Report Services Login" window to me, even when I used Administrator account of that Prod machine.
The WSS log file on the Prod machine shows this error: "The file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by the server administrators."
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance! I have searched for days for this issue ...
Hi, My reports are deployed on reporting server installed on my machine. Now i want to access the reports on other machines which are on local LAN along with my machine. When i try to access reports from some other machine browser gives error page not found. Can any one tell me how to do this.
I would like a report to display the number of users and the reports accessed for a certain duration of time[being able to go back and check for previous years as well].
I read on the msdn that 60 days worth of report log is kept, and the rest gets wipped off.Any suggestions on how I would be able to get user access list for the past year as well.
I am not able to access registery key in report when report is deployed on reporting server. But when that report (.rdl) is opened in a Business Intelligence project it is able to access registry key. So, my question is what need to be done to get value of registery key in reports deployed on reporting server.
I am trying to access some SQL 2005 reports externally from the network, however when i try to open the reports i get the following error -
· "The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure."
I am facing an error while displaying a sql reporting service report on my asp.net page. The report it self is build using Report server project. It consists of a Main report which contains a bar graph. Upon clicking on the bar graph, it takes you to another report (i have given in the jump to report section), call it Report 2. Upon clicking on Report 2 it shows another report say Report 3. It is displayed properly as long as i run the preview of the report in my report project. When i deploy this report on the report server and trying it to access using my asp.net code behind. The main reports runs very fine. Upon clicking, it does not do anything and when i click again it display error, the report does not contain any thing. Sometime it does not show even the error. But just could not drill me in.
I presume on the click event of the report which is a char item, it calls the page load event, and it loses it parent report information or something like that. Please can any body guide me how to do this.
The following functionality i need to achieve with my web page.
My main report : Main report :upon click on any char item, it should take you to the second report. My second report : and on clicking on charitem on the the second report, it should take me to the third report.
I have Reporting Services installed on my web server (Windows 2003) where I am hosting my website too. While installing Reporting Services, I used my database server as SQL Server (Windows 2000, SQL Server 2000). Now when I try to access from browser using http://servername/reports it's giving me following error: "The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship with remote server." Also when I try to access http://servername/reportserver/ it gives me this error: "The permissions granted to user '{servername}IUSR_{servername}' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Get Online Help" I have given full access to "ASPNET", as well as "IUSR_{servername}" on the folder "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLReporting Services" While installing reporting services, I used SQL mode of authentication. My goal is to have reports on internet for public view. I have "Enable Anonymous access" check box checked on IIS with user name "IUSR_{servername}"
I have looked many places for the error and while many people is having same error, everyone has different reason and different solutions.
Not sure what I am missing here...Can anybody help?
How is it possible for others to browse to my localmachine and view the reports? They tried browsing to http://machinename/reports and http://10.1.3.123/reports
But the message the users get is: You are not authorized to view this page.
Then In my localmachine, I changed the IIS setting for the Reports and ReportServer to allow anonymous access. Then the users were able to see the Home page of the reports but not the reports themselves to click on for viewing. Any thoughts please? Thanks
Actually we have multiple Sub Reports which we want to open from the Main Report. Initially when i used "Jump To Report" property it worked fine but in the browser the Main Report used to get refreshed everytime i had to Go Back to Main Report from Sub Report. Second solution which i want to try is using "Jump To URL" property. Some Details: I have multiple parameters in the report. My parameters are getting data from a Cube. Parameters can have Multiple Vaue selected at a time. I want to pass all the values to the URL.
Say Parameter1 is DimCountryCountry can have values such as: [Dim Country].[Country].[All] [Dim Country].[Country].&[India] [Dim Country].[Country].&[Germany] ......
Parameter2 is DimCountryState can have values such as: [Dim Country].[State].[All] [Dim Country].[State].&[Delhi] [Dim Country].[State].[Punjab] .....
Now i want to create a URL using these values, since each parameter should be separated by "&"(ampersand) my URL looks like one below. Following URL Works fine: javascript:void(window.open'(http://MyReportServer/ReportServer/Pages/Report.aspx?/MyReports/Project1/Country+Data&rcarameters=false&DimCountryCountry=[Dim Country].[Country].[All]&DimCountryState=[Dim Country].[State].[All]'))
as long as there is no "&" in the Parameter Value the URL works fine. But when i try to insert values other than "[All]" it starts failing because "[Dim Country].[Country].&[India]" contains "&", which gives error due to ambiguity, (whether this "&" is a parameter separater or is it a part of parameter value)
So i found a solution for that, which is to replace "&" with "%26" escape sequence characters. This works fine as long as we specify this escape sequence in address bar. i.e if we directly paste the following URL in the address bar it will work. http://MyReportServer/ReportServer/Pages/Report.aspx?/MyReports/Project1/Country+Data&rcarameters=false&DimCountryCountry=[Dim Country].[Country].%26[India]&DimCountryState=[Dim Country].[State].%26[Delhi]
but if we put this URL in the Javascript, it doesnot work, because the WIndow.Open function automatically replaces the "%26" characters with "&", which we know gives ambiguity error.
Please let me know if you have any suggesiton for it. Anyway any better solution for my problem.
When I deploy an assemly into SQL Server using the Visual Studio IDE, it claims than it also deploys the source code to the server and the build process also shows deploying the files, but I can not find the files.
I am now developing on Windows XP and the SQL Server is also the Developer Edition on my PC.
Hello SQL Server Experts, Data Analysts, and Report Writers et al:
re: Reporting Options with SQL Server
I wanted to propose an offshoot to the pryor thread:
Would anyone take a stab at comparing Access Reports, Crystal Reports, Cognos or other options to all the Reporting Services and its components offered as part ofSQL Server, especially as to extracting data from SQL Server into a report format?
I guess this is a far as capabilites, ease of use, limitations, and especially formatting or presentation of the end report product?
Thank you to all, and I hope this is a beneficial discussion to others.
I have a report being utilized for return address labels, conforming to Avery 5167. I have tried designing both as a table and as data in rectangles. Since these are return labels their is only one instance of data replicated for all textboxes, therefore the columns are of consistant length.
The report has seven columns of precise measurement, the data filled colums are set as 1.75in, 0.25in, and between the data columns are blank columns set to .3125in, 0.25in. I have also tried to fill data into the blank colums and set the font color to white. All report margins are set to 0in and the table location is 0.04167in, 0.125in. all textboxes have the properties for increase/decrease to accomadate turned off.
The biggest issue I am having is in printing from the deployed report versus printing while designing. I have adjusted for the glitch in margins for RS2005 and have printed succussfully prior to deployment to adhere to the specific measures for the label, report margins and textbox height and width and blank column spacing.
However, after deploying the report the data spacing seems to be compressed when printed. I am not getting the same measure between data fields as I had when designing the report. The entire printout seems to be slightly compressed.
When printed from design colums 1,3,5, and 7 start respectively at .3125in,2.375in,4.3756in,6.4375in from the edge of the page.
When printed fromt he deployed report columns 1,3,5 and7 start respectively at .3125in,2.3125in,4.28125in,6.28125in.
The progression of compressed measure seems to increase from left to right inthat by the time the report is printed via the deployed report the "Tab" area is a difference of .15625in which when printing for very precise template format this creates a problem. As well as a headache when one thinks the report is correct before deployment.
I have developed a program that required user to store information at their own machine (sql server express). So, i have included SQL Server 2005 Express Edition in the Prerequisites
When i try to deployed my program at test machine, the installer works fine, by installing the .net framework 2.0, then SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, then Finish.
When i tried to run on the test machine, my program showing me error "Open connection error". Well, i know somethings to do with my connection string,
Logically, i do not understand how this things works. my own developer machine contain Database Named "abc" with username and password "123456". The test machine do not contained any database nor username nor password. How can i fix this problem? I mean some code to perform this operation without end user knowledge.
i've followed the tutorial in SQL Server 2005 for deploying packages. everything works ok until i came to lesson 3 installing packages.
i could connect to SSIS but when i expanded the Stored Packages node, i get an error message saying :
Login timeout expired
An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server[2]. (Microsoft SQL Native Client)
my database engine has an instance name. will this affect SSIS connectivity?
Hi, I was hoping someone can help me fix a problem I am having when I deploy my rs report. What happens is when I view my report in designer everything works fine, however when I deploy me report to the report server and begin to drilldown into the matrix the entire report shifts down each time I toggle one of my drilldown fields. This causes the top of the report to disappear. The user than has the scroll up each time to reposition the report. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone how to fix it?
If I deploy an SSIS packages in SQL Server (not in file system).
Where are they stored? Are they stored in a DB? if yes, which one?
Also, is it a best practise to deploy the SSIS package in SQL (I guess it should be because I can have a central place for deploying all package and have one place to load all the packages from).
I encountered the following error after I deployed a report . The deployment process was successful, however, when I try to run the reports from the remote machine, It gives me an error message saying:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'SessionOLAP'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
On the other hand, I deployed this report on the local machine where the reportserver resides and it is running perfect.
Do you have any idea how to deal with this problem?
I deployed my phone directory to the server and now dynamic images are no longer being displayed. They are specifically employee photos based on a naming convention. I used the path as ''file:/// etc.'' and when I open up my start menu and throw it into run it works fine. It also runs fine in my visual studio report, but for whatever reason when its deployed it no-longer runs. Does anyone know what could eb causing this problem?
When I run the SSRS report in development mode, it is working fine. When I run in deployed localhost, I faced an error message as below:
The permissions granted to user 'FAROUKYEWNOTEBOASPNET' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Hope someone can enlighten me on this.
I have an already published application running several MS SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services report. I need a way to find from either the reporting services log or the application server (IIS) logs or windows log to know the frequency of each report being used.
Based on this info, the business needs to know which reports are being used and to what extend? How can I acheive this?
I have already got the IIS logs and it did not give the required info. I have looked into the Reporting Services logs but it does not provide the info either.

VS2005 project with imbedded SQL Server reports works fine in VS IDE going agianst a network SQL Server 2005 or the local SQL Server 2005. However, when the application is deployed (to another computer). the application starts and connects successfully to the network SQL Server 2005. Everything works until the user tries to produce a report. Then the following error is generated: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe (the verbose part of the error message is left out). SQL Server agent is running both on the file server and the local computer. Also, named pipes and shared memory are enabled in file server and local computer (TCP and VIA protocoles are disabled). Same is done for Client protocoles. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
