Accessing Report Through URL Not Getting Prompted For Parameters

Feb 8, 2007

I'm accessing my report through a URL:
http://reportserver/ReportServer?/Folder/ReportName&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=CSV&rc:Parameters=true

I am getting an error: This report requires a default or user-defined
value for the report parameter 'beg_dt'. To run or subscribe to this
report, you must provide a parameter value.
(rsReportParameterValueNotSet) Get Online Help

I do not want to pass the report parameters (to and from dates) through
the URL. I want the dates to be entered by the user running the
report. If I enter default parameters in Report Manager I am not prompted
for the dates.

Trouble Accessing SQL Server 2005 Stored Procedure Parameters

Jun 14, 2007

I created a stored procedure (see snippet below) and the owner is "dbo".
I created a data connection (slcbathena.SLCPrint.AdamsK) using Windows authentication.
I added a new datasource to my application in VS 2005 which created a dataset (slcprintDataSet.xsd).
I opened up the dataset in Designer so I could get to the table adapter.
I selected the table adapter and went to the properties panel.
I changed the DeleteCommand as follows: CommandType = StoredProcedure; CommandText = usp_OpConDeleteDirectory. When I clicked on the Parameters Collection to pull up the Parameters Collection Editor, there was no parameters listed to edit even though there is one defined in the stored procedure. Why?

If I create the stored procedure as "AdamsK.usp_OpConDeleteDirectory", the parameters show up correctly in the Parameters Collection Editor. Is there a relationship between the owner name of the stored procedure and the data connection name? If so, how can I create a data connection that uses "dbo" instead of "AdamsK" so I can use the stored procedure under owner "dbo"?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Code SnippetCREATE PROCEDURE dbo.usp_OpConDeleteDirectory
(
@DirectoryID int
)
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON
DELETE FROM OpConDirectories WHERE (DirectoryID = @DirectoryID)

SQL 2012 :: Client Connection Fails But Then User Is Prompted To Select Server

Apr 7, 2015

We have a database residing on a SQL Server 2012 Express system running under Windows Server 2012. I have installed the SQL 2012 Native Client on the user's workstation. I created the System DSN with the required settings and when I test the connection all tests pass. I am able to ping the server as well as connect to it via SQL Server Management Studio.

Now when the user launches the application he is presented with the dialog window as in Screenshot1 (see attached). After clicking on Ok he is next presented with the dialog window where he has to select the SQL server. See attached Screenshot2. The user selects the SQL server from the drop down list and he is then able to access the application and work normally. I cannot understand why this is happening because I have included the correct server instance in the DSN settings i.e. sqlserversqlexpress

Telling the user to select the server himself is not an option for us.

I have checked the settings on the SQL Server. TCP/IP is enabled, remote connections are allowed and there is no firewall blocking. Port 1433 has been set as the default port to use.

Accessing A Stored Procedure From ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express:How To Define/add 1 Output && 2 Input Parameters In Param. Coll.?

Feb 23, 2008

Hi all,

In a Database "AP" of my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE), I have a stored procedure "spInvTotal3":

CREATE PROC [dbo].[spInvTotal3]

@InvTotal money OUTPUT,

@DateVar smalldatetime = NULL,

@VendorVar varchar(40) = '%'

This stored procedure "spInvTotal3" worked nicely and I got the Results: My Invoice Total = $2,211.01 in
my SSMSE by using either of 2 sets of the following EXEC code:
(1)
USE AP
GO
--Code that passes the parameters by position
DECLARE @MyInvTotal money
EXEC spInvTotal3 @MyInvTotal OUTPUT, '2006-06-01', 'P%'
PRINT 'My Invoice Total = $' + CONVERT(varchar,@MyInvTotal,1)
GO
(2)
USE AP
GO
DECLARE @InvTotal as money
EXEC spInvTotal3
@InvTotal = @InvTotal OUTPUT,
@DateVar = '2006-06-01',
@VendorVar = '%'
SELECT @InvTotal
GO
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Now, I want to print out the result of @InvTotal OUTPUT in the Windows Application of my ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express programming. I have created a project "spInvTotal.vb" in my VB 2005 Express with the following code:

Imports System.Data

Imports System.Data.SqlClient

Imports System.Data.SqlTypes

Public Class Form1

Public Sub printMyInvTotal()

Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS; Initial Catalog=AP; Integrated Security=SSPI;"

Dim conn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(connectionString)

Try

conn.Open()

Dim cmd As New SqlCommand

cmd.Connection = conn

cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

cmd.CommandText = "[dbo].[spInvTotal3]"

Dim param As New SqlParameter("@InvTotal", SqlDbType.Money)

param.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output

cmd.Parameters.Add(param)

cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()

'Print out the InvTotal in TextBox1

TextBox1.Text = param.Value

Catch ex As Exception

MessageBox.Show(ex.Message)

Throw

Finally

conn.Close()

End Try

End Sub

End Class
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I executed the above code and I got no errors, no warnings and no output in the TextBox1 for the result of "InvTotal"!!??
I have 4 questions to ask for solving the problems in this project:
#1 Question: I do not know how to do the "DataBinding" for "Name" in the "Text.Box1".
How can I do it?
#2 Question: Did I set the CommandType property of the command object to
CommandType.StoredProcedure correctly?
#3 Question: How can I define the 1 output parameter (@InvTotal) and
2 input parameters (@DateVar and @VendorVar), add them to
the Parameters Collection of the command object, and set their values
before I execute the command?
#4 Question: If I miss anything in print out the result for this project, what do I miss?

Please help and advise.

Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang

Passing Report Parameters To An SSRS 2005 Report Hosted In Sharepoint 2007

Nov 18, 2007

Here is a situation in my company:

We have an Office SharePoint 2007 site, we developed a couple of web parts and added them to our site. We used SQL Server Reporting services 2005 as our reporting solution. The reports are hosted on the report center and when we need a report, we open it by sending a URL requesting the report, passing the report parameters in the URL query string. So the report is filtered based on the parameters passed from the web parts.

But since best practices say that you should host reports directly under SharePoint, by configuring the reporting services to run in the SharePoint integrated mode. We followed the steps and installed SharePointRS and we finally succeeded to publish the reports to a SharePoint folder, but we had a limitation: we are unable to pass the report parameters internally to the report hosted in SharePoint. If we passed them in the query string as the report center case, SharePoint neglects them totally.
So the question is: how can I pass parameters internally between a SharePoint web part and a SQL server 2005 reporting services report hosted in SharePoint?

Reporting Services :: Passing Cascaded Parameters From Main Report To Drill Through Report In SSRS?

Sep 16, 2015

I am trying to develop a report from cube,and it has one drill through report.when i click on sales amount field on main report,then it open the drill through report with details.Here i passed the **(category,subcat,product)parameters(Cascaded)** to drill through report in action part of main report.In my main report i have two columns .

columns are **Level**  and              **Salesamount**.

Values are like

**[-]category**              **100**
    **[-]subcat**             **50**
         **product**          **30**

when i click on 100, parameters are passed & it open the detail report correctly, but when i click on 50,the values for subcat parameter is not getting values in detail report and same as the product also.

Here i used the expressions in parameter values

**pCategory**----iif(inscope(category),!fields.category.value,split(join(Parameters!category.value,","),","))

**psubcat**----iif(inscope(subcat),!fields.subcat.value,split(join(Parameters!subcat.value,","),","))

**pproduct**----iif(inscope(product),!fields.product.value,split(join(Parameters!product.value,","),","))

Report On Users Accessing A Database

Aug 5, 2004

Hi,

I need a way to automatically generate a daily report of user names, time of access, and type of access (login, select, insert, update, delete, etc.) to a database.

We need to audit all accesses from all accounts to find out who is accessing the payroll system. We have already defined the security to be as tight as possible - however we need to monitor all Administrator accounts to ensure they are not being used to obtain sensitive information.

I have looked for some software to read the live SQL Transaction Logs, but none of the tools I have seen can do exactly what we require. For example, I've tried Lumigent Log Explorer (http://www.lumigent.com/products/le_sql.html), but it's not automated and the report output is just garble to our payroll staff.

I have looked up all Microsoft SQL Server partners but their software is all about data recovery and data reporting. We need Security Reporting.

I have created a general SQL Profiler trace that may suffice if everything else fails, but I still have no way of automating it - it relies on Real-Time monitoring which I can't trust (admin can turn this off, do their stuff, turn it back on). Also this is dependant on someone turning it off, save the log, turn it back on, every day - this person would be the Administrator - what admin would monitor themselves?

- SQL Trace seems like a good idea, how do I read the trace log file? How do I automate a trace?

- Can we automate the SQL Profiler to read the transaction log to find all accesses to a database?

- Does anyone know what we can do to automatically audit accesses to a database? What format can the report come in (pdf, xls, dbf, html etc.)

- Recommended software to try?

- Ideas for alternatives to try?

- Any companies/developers out there who know of a tool or are developing a tool to provide this sort of report?

- Is there a spec somewhere to let us write our own software to query the live transaction log?

Thanks, I appreciate any help.
Kind Regards

Accessing External Data Within A Report

Jan 2, 2008

I have created a report using Visual Studio that brings back the expected information from the database when either run from within VS or is deployed to the server and run through Internet Explorer. The problem that I have is that records on the database each has a field that contains the location of a photograph file which is located on a different server. When I run the report from within VS on my PC it correctly includes the photo but when I run it from the server the picture just shows the icon denoting a broken link - although all of the database information is correctly displayed.

I think this may be a security problem as my workstation user has Domain Administrator capabilities but I am not sure which user is being used by Reporting Services when it tries to access the photo files from the other server. I have made sure that the user configured in Windows Service Identity also temprarily has Domain Admin rights but this has not made any difference.

Can anyone shed any light on which user the server uses when it runs on the server and tries to access network based information.

Thanks

Refresh Report Without Accessing Database

May 9, 2007

I have a need to refresh a report after applying a filter on the data that is displayed, without accessing the database.

The following example is a simplified version of the functionality I'm trying to accomplish. The first report displays Sales & Projection data for all products. On clicking a particular product in the header, the second report displays just that product and the total metrics. I have created an rdl file for both the reports and based on the parameters passed, it displays one or several products. My concern is that the report is having to access the AS cube every time a product is clicked. In the real report, it's taking minutes to get the data. Is there way I can get the report to refresh to apply the filter without accessing the database again? Thanks in advance...

Pass The Parameters From Main Report To Drillthrough Report

Nov 28, 2007

Good morning, all

I have a really cool Budget report which has two matrices on it. One is used/visible if the user selects four levels of grouping, and one is used if the user selects only three levels of grouping. The four choices for grouping are four fields, Par, FERC, Point, and Resource.

Since grouping is optional, I need a way to pass the parameter for a field that is not grouped on from the main report to the drillthrough report. For example if the user chooses to group on all fields but Point, I need to pass the report parameter that was used by the main report for Point to the drillthrough report as a report parameter.

So, I tried testing the three grouping levels values and if none were equal to "Point" then pass in the parameter by putting the following expression in the Parameter Value box for the Point parameter on the Navigation tab of the datacell of the main report that is the drillthrough link:

=iif(
Parameters!GroupLevel1.Value <> "Point"
and
Parameters!GroupLevel2.Value<>"Point"
and
Parameters!GroupLevel3.Value<>"Point"
,
Join(Parameters!PNTPoint.Value,",")
,
Fields!Point.UniqueName
)

But this is not working; the drillthrough report shows a blank dropdown for the Point parameter and I have to manually set it. Does anyone see an error in the syntax of the iif statement?

Any references, links, resources or good clean jokes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kathryn

Customise Report Parameters In Report Manager

Feb 7, 2007

Is it possible to add custom controls in for parameters in report manager??

I have a parameter that requires the user to click a button and select a bunch of things in another form. How can i do this in reporting services??

I also would like to change the layout of the parameters toolbar, ie. make text boxes smaller widths, show/hide parameters based on other parameter values.

I know i could write my own web page that does this and hide the parameters toolbar when they run the report, but this would mean that we lose other functionality that report manager has, eg. scheduling.

Does anyone know if customising the report manager will become available in a later version??

I have tried searching the forums and cannot find anything really helpful. I have had one cube setup and a model generated before and all was workin, but i had to delete it and i recreated the SSAS cube from scratch.

My user account has admin rights on the cube and also on the servers.

Server is Windows 2003

Client is Windows XP.

Any one got anythoughts on this or how i can determine what is wrong.?

Many Thanks

Scotty
