I am trying to create a sproc creates several tables, views, and sprocs across several similar DBs (please...no lectures on structure...I didn't create this multi-DB setup) .
My sproc loops through the DBs and runs a script on each DB. I am running the Sproc from a client computer and cannot easily access the c drive on the SQL server.
The only way I have figured out how do do this is to run the following
xp_cmdshell 'isql d- %@mydb% i- c:script.sql'
inside a loop.
My problem is that xp_cmdshell refers to the server c drive instead of my local c drive, where my script file is.
Is there a way to refer to my local c drive? Also any thoughts on a better way to approach this (other than running the entire script inline in the sproc since I don't want to have to run quotes around each batch of the script).
hi every one. i am a new user of asp.net 2.0 using C# code and i am facing a problem in accessing a SQL Server2005 database file in the remote computer. i have connected two pc with peer to peer connection and trying to add a databse using the "Add connection" option from the visual studio 2005. in the add connection dialog box it is showing me the remote server and it was supposed to show all the database in that SQL Server when i select one. but when i am choosing the server name it was not showing me anything. by the way i have configuered the surface area for "both TCP/IP and named pipes" and both the pc's server browser is turned on. is it the right way to access a database file from a remote pc or not?? please send me a good solution to do this things and try to explain the codes with example. waiting for response....plz send me the solution.. as soon as possible
This is my first time to deploy an asp.net2 web site. Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database) Help pleaseee
we have sql 2005 standard edition. i was trying ( unsuccessfully ) to configure RAS on server 2003 to allow the server to authentificate vpn requests. i don't know how but the next day people started complaining about their mapped network drives being disconnected, and now no one can connect to the database via the network, eventhough they still have access to the server, and the network drives were remapped.
From this point I right click on information services and clicked "connect to computer" and located mine. When I hit "ok", I got "This computer is not running Internet Information Services Ver 4 or higher". IIS6 is starting, it just won't connect to local computer.
Previously someone said to post the event logs. I can't find them. Where are they??
Not sure if this is the right place for my question but here goes anyway.
I have an instance of SQL Server 2005 installed on my DEV PC. A colleague of mine wants to access my server from his machine which connected to the same network.
I logged on to SSMS and added him as a new login.
Will he be able to connect to it now or do I have to do more than just that?
I tried to deploy reports on locahost. Yet, I still need to start the mssqlserver service on local computer. I tried all the possibilities shown from the help but still i can't have it started. How will i start mssqlserver service on local computer alone?
Hello, PLEASE Help me.I have just installed the Quick Starts on my local machine, and it mentions that you will need a new instance of SQL called (local)/NetSDK.I already have the MS Personal Edition and the tutorials say to download the MS Desktop Engine. So what do i need to do in order to get teh Quick Start samples to work locally???Can i not just use my own instance and use the Grocer and other Databases there???Please Help
I just installed SQL Server for the first time on a windows 2003 OS which is on its on server. Then, I installed the client tools on my local computer. Now how do I connect to the sql server with my client tools? What I wanted to do is from my local computer use the enterprise manager and pull up the databases that are located on the server that contains the sql server.
I am about updating some fields with local date and time using blw API Quote Private Declare Sub GetLocalTime Lib "kernel32" (lpSystemTime As SYSTEMTIME)
Public Function LocalDateTime()
Dim MyTime As SYSTEMTIME
GetLocalTime MyTime
Debug.Print "The Local Date is:" & MyTime.wMonth & "-" & MyTime.wDay & "-" & MyTime.wYear Debug.Print "The Local Time is:" & MyTime.wHour & ":" & MyTime.wMinute & ":" & MyTime.wSecond
End Function Unquote This works fine however due to it's not really easy for an administrator to keep checking every times wheter local date and time are correctly updated for each front end users computer i would that to reconsider my function and making it to read local date and time from remote SQL Server. my concern is to help administrator to save time as he should only need to ensure that Server is running with correct time...
I have a very basic console application whose sole purpose is to query a database on the same local computer. When i run the application, i get the error message below: Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'someDomainSomeUserName'. Below is my connection string also myconnection_string = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:Reporting SystemApp_Datasafetydata.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"). After some googling, some post pointed to deleting a user folder at : C:Documents and SettingsmyusernameLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server DataSQLEXPRESS but still deleting that folder and restarting the machine doesn't help and i also have remote connections enabled. Help is really needed. NOTE: The same application runs on a different computer with XP but fails on the Pc with windows server 2003.

Hi, My reports are deployed on reporting server installed on my machine. Now i want to access the reports on other machines which are on local LAN along with my machine. When i try to access reports from some other machine browser gives error page not found. Can any one tell me how to do this.
I'm in the process of designing a system which will have a central internet based SQL Server database, and one or more clients running SQL CE.
If there is more than one client machine running the same software, is it possible to have all these clients use a central SQL CE db on one of the clients? In other words can other machines access a SQL CE running on say a "master" machine? These machines my be in a workgroup or on a domain by the way.
I know I could use a SQL Express db on the master machine, but I'm keen to use SQL CE because of the Sync services dlls that came with VS 2008 (which I believe only work in CE).
I am trying to view a report that i created and I get an error everywhere but on the server, where it runs fine. the report uses the sharepoint lists.asmx web service as a datasource, and I'm using Windows Authentication on the datasource. I'm logged on to my desktop with the same account i use on the server, but on the server it runs and on the desktop i get the following error:
I am having a problem accessing my local A: drive, using the bulk insert command. The actual sql server pc thinks I am accessing its sql server's A: and not my local a: drive. I am trying to read in a simple CSV delimited ascii file into a sql table. Wow what a nightmare just to read a simple ascii file into a table. Unfortunatley I am writing a program in VB.net for an operator to import ascii data from floppy diskettes.
I am using this command below: The command works fine but I have to go to the actual server and put the floppy disk in over there. I want the operator to be able to use there own A: or any location drive for that matter. Sql server over the network is not allowing us to access any local drive to import this data. I get an error 21 because the sql server does not have the floppy in its drive. It seems like some kind of security issue, but I am not sure. Any information would be most appreciated in this matter. Thanks in advance.
Hello everyone, I have the sql connection string configured in my web application as data source=(local); provider=sqloledb.1; user id=<<user id>>; password=<<password>>; database=<<database>>
My understanding is that when (local) is used, the connection method will fall to shared memory / named pipes. I have names pipes and TCP/IP enabled in the configuration manager.
My machine is also running Comodo Firewall .
Now this is what is happening. When I try to access the asp.net application, I get a component exception in comodo firewall that indicates w3wp.exe is trying to access the sql server via the machine's IP over port 1433. This happens when I try to load the application in the browser.
What I dont understand is that when (local) is configured, it should only access thru shared memory / named pipes. Why is it trying to connect thru TCP port. Is this because I have the sql username and password? My SQL server is configured for mixed mode authentication.
Hi all!I have some problems with asp.net windows authentication.Asp made the file ASPNETDB.MDF. But I dont have SQL Server on the machine where the application will be deployed...So I have to move this file to another server, but I couldnt find any information about ASPNETDB.MDF connection string or somenthing like this.Is it possible to move this file or I have to make the authentication on my own, with my own database? I hope there is a solution to this problem! Many thanks! Regards!
In my script task I have the following code. The task I'm trying to accomplish is: If the filename on FTP can be found in the local archive folder of e: drive then show message "FileAlreadyThere" (I will ultimatley change it to do nothing); if the filename on FTP cannot be found in the local archive folder of e: drive then transfer the file to the local package folder on d: drive.
While the script task is executing I was watching it closely, but the problem i saw is that: If some files on FTP are already in local archive folder and some are not, then it the files which are already in the archive folder are dumped to the package folder; then after that the files which are not in the archive folder are then dumped to the package folder. But I only want the new files on FTP to be transferred to the package folder for further processing.
Then after this is finished, I saw all the files in the package folder are refreshed one after another, after the first round of refresh the second round starts, after the second round finishes it then stopped. I saw it refreshes itself because the 'Date Modified' of the file changes. And I saw the script task turned green.
I don't see how the code below produced this result. Something is wrong in the logic of the loop? Anyone has any idea why it's behaving the way it is now? And how to change the code to accomplish what I want? Thanks a lot!!

I'm a hobby C# programmer, and when at university there are a few machines that have SQL Server 2005 installed on them (i think it's standard ed).
From looking around at sql 2005 free edition and DNN (dot net nuke) it's apparently possible to have the database file in the execution directory of your application.
My question is this, if i have a C# win app, is in possible for me to store the database files, in the executable directory of that app, and not in the default sql database store of C:prog filessql server90 data etc...?
Ie, what i want to do, is for the C# win application on start up to "mount" the database, use it normally like any other sql database, and then "unmount" it at the end.
The reason for "mounting" and "unmounting" is that i don't want the database to be accessible or even visible to sql server when the c# app isnt running.
I hope I've explained myself clearly, and thanks a lot in advance. pro-logic
I have a SSIS package which reads XXX.rpt file from a LAN share. This is a simple text file from a mainframe job. The package is stored in file system and invoked by a third party scheduler. The scheduler uses a specific NT account to run the package and the NT account has read access to the share. The SSIS package is not updating the rpt file in the share. It reads the rpt file and updates sql database.
The issue is when the package is run, it returns the following error:
Error: 2008-02-07 14:52:33.18 Code: 0xC001401E Source: Mycustom Data Extract Connection manager "MyText File" Description: The file name "\myserverdev est.rpt" specified in the connection was not valid. End Error
I have verified that the NT account has read access to the LAN share. Does the account should also have write access?
Our client uses the report builder to generate reports for collection of employees. We would like to use the employee records in this report to perform some additional processing (such as the list of employees gets assigned to a particular group).
Programmatically, I can retrieve a byte stream from rs.GetReportDefinition( "myClientEmpReport") and deserialize the stream into Report object (as define by ReportDefinition.xsd).
I can then manually drill down and retrieve the SematicQuery xml from the commandText field.
The problem is how to convert the SemanticQuery format into a T-Sql query that I can run against the view that the report model is based off of.
Is this possible?
Thanks,
Arjay
P.S. Running SQL 2005 Reporting Services, VC# 2005, ASP.Net 2.0.
I created SDF database files for "SQL compact" with a size larger than 128 MB (which is default for creation). Now when I try to open these files with VS2005 I get the error "The size of the databasfile exceeds the configured maximum...Required Max Databse size (in MB; 0 if unknown)" (translated from german). The real problem is that I can not change the connectionstring in VS, cause all field which show the connectionstring are readonly (greyed out). I know I have to set the option "Max Database Size = 512" or so in the connectionstring to get the things runnning, but don't know any way to do that in VS2005. My attempt to access the SDF files when copied to the device via active sync results in the same error message.
This seems for me to be a design flaw, cause I can not add the optional parameter to the connection string (even not in the details form, where only "DataSource" and "Password" fields are displayed. - Does anybody know a solution in VS2005? - Does anybody have a workaround for me? - Does anybody know where the connectionstrings of VS2005 are stored, so that I may "hack" the connection string?
I'm doing a simple ETL that reads a database table and dumps the content to a text file. The text file will be named Employee.txt. This file name will remain the same across my environments, but I may want to vary the directory location to where I want this file dumped.
So, I defined an environment variable called "DataTargetDir" in all my environments. Now, I want to utilize this variable in the "File name:" box within the Flat File Connection Manager Editor. How do I do this? I'm thinking I can write something like "%DataTargetDir%Employee.txt" in the "File name:" box, but it's not working.
I have a fairly large DTS package which processes a large amount of data and outputs it to a series of tables. Currently I am saving the package as a local package, but I want to save it as a file to make migrating to different servers easier for the people who will be moving it. My question is, Can I run the package as a file without saving it as a local package on the server? And if so, are there any good examples of how to do it out there?
Suppose I have an Excel file in D:Test with the name a.xls. Can I rename that excel file from QA of SQL SERVER in the same location or any other location? Subhasish
