ActiveX To Warm Up Report Server ?
Mar 21, 2007
Because the IIS threads are recycled at night, the first user that calls up Report Manager in the morning has to wait 30 seconds before the page loads, as IIS is creating a thread.
I'd like to set up a job in SQL Agent that will navigate to http://localhost/reports/ every morning before users come in to work, so they won't have to wait.
I think a SAL Agent job of type ActiveX Script would be suitable for this, so I need to write the code to navigate to the reports page in VBScript.
Anyone knows how to navigate to a page in VBScript ?
tia.

Hi,
Is there an ActiveX control for the Report Designer available so I can just drop it into my program so the user can edit or add reports without buying the Business Intelligence Studio or Visual Studio 2005? I understand I'll have to pay royalties on this but depending on the cost I am open to it.
Thanks

Hi,
I€™m hoping someone might be able to help me.
I have a Development Machine running Windows XP Professional SP2, with SQL Server 2005 including Reporting Services. I am developing an ASP.NET application using VS 2005, and am including Server Side Reports from SQL Server. Everything is working well, except when viewing the Reports.
The Reports when viewed from Reporting Services€™ Report Manager or from within the ASP.NET application only display the first page of the report, displaying the total number of pages as 0. As well, most of the functions on the report toolbar appear to be disabled. This occurs for any report viewed, even sample reports such as the Adventure Works Samples.
The problem only occurs when viewed from within Internet Explorer on the Development Machine. To overcome the problem, I have upgraded SQLServer to SP2, and removed and reinstalled Internet Explorer, but it made no difference. It appears to be related to the rsClientPrint ActiveX addon which should have been installed when the print icon was first selected. It appears not to have installed properly, but up to that point everything worked OK. Selecting the Print icon (or any other icon) since nothing happens. I€™m guessing here, but I suspect that the rsClientPrint addon needs to be reinstalled, but I don€™t know how to go about it. It is not listed within IE addon (where it is on other machines connecting to the Development Machine), nor is it listed within the €œC:WindowsDownloaded Program Files€?. But it is not being downloaded when the Print Icon is selected. I have checked all the Security settings for the environment to ensure that ActiveX programs are downloaded, and everything appears to be in order.
Would anyone be familiar with this problem or have any suggestions on how to go about resolving it? Any help would be appreciated as it is causing significant problems. Strange though, the reports appear fine when viewed from within the Server Manager.

As most are aware by now, the Report Viewer controls for reporting services in 12.0 and prior rely on ActiveX to work. Â This causes compatibility issues for any non-IE browser, and as of IE11 and now Windows 10 Edge browser it's causing issues for even IE. Â Research suggests that SSRS 2014 switched out to Silverlight:
[URL]
However, Silverlight uses NPAPI which is another technology for which all browsers are ending support. Â As of this writing, Chrome has already ended support. Â Similarly/Coincidentally Java support is ending as well.
My question is, what are Microsoft's plan to restore functionality such as print/search for browsers where ActiveX/Silverlight cannot be used since this support is no longer strictly a 3rd party browser situation?

We are planning to provide a disaster recovery facility for a production system. Clustering has been ruled out for technical reasons so we are considering either transactional replication or Log shipping.
Microsoft suggested the log shipping option but it seems a bit messy to me and only provides a warm standby in that it only copies log backups to the secondary machine.
Any ideas why log shipping was suggested in preference to transactional replication? Anyone have any experience in this area?
TIA Colin.

I have inherited a problem that I am hoping someone can help out with. A developer used a perl script to move some backup files from one server to another and then restore the databases on other server (at least we think that is what happened, no one is really sure at this point)
Now I need to take the databases ourt of read only mode and drop them but I get an error 5063 stating that the database is in warm standby and the alter database and sp_dboption statements both fail.
How do I get the databases out of warm standby mode?
Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide.

Hello out there.
I am currently testing the transmission rates of sql server 70 backups over an ATM circuit (T3) from tampa, fl to detroit. We are evaluating what we need to do to relocate our warm backup database servers to our Disaster Recovery site in detroit. I have tried several types of transmissions and are not receiving any transfer rates that will reasonably work with a recovery plan. I have tried copying a file from source to target, I have tried backing up from source to target, I have tried FTP'ing files, and never can achieve higher transmission rate then 1 gig per hour.
I am looking to talk to anyone out there that may have implemented a long distance sql servber DR site or anyone who is thinking about it. Or anyone who has any input on how I might be able to achieve a higher transmission rate over a T3. Or anyone who is using SAN's in both their local and DR site and might be using special synchronizing software. I am currently piloting a Metastore SAN and a Compaq SAN to solve some local disk management problems and eventually transmit data from SAN to SAN for DR.
Please, if you are involved with any of these strategies and would like someone to share your knowledge with or if I can be of help to you by sharing our testing knowledge, please write asap.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have one database with read-only status. I tried to change it back to normal by doing this..
EXEC sp_dboption 'test', 'read only', 'FALSE' by doing this i'm getting this
Changes to the state or options of database 'test' cannot be made at this time. The database is in single-user mode, and a user is currently connected to it.
And when i tried on Enterprise Manager it is saying
Error 5063 database 'test' is in warm Standby.
I cross checked and confirmed that it is not in single-user mode and no one is connected to the database!!
Any help is greately appreciated.
thanks

I'm looking for a way to get the name of the server on which the DTS package lives.
I copy packages between servers. The problem is that everytime a package is copied
to different server, I have to change the reference in the connection strings to point
to the new server name. I'd like to find an automatic way to interrogate the server
name where the package currently lives and dynamically change connection strings
from within an ActiveX task. That would cut maintenance way down.

Hi all
I am migrating some DTS2000 packages to SSIS via the migration wizard. However there is an activex script in each DTS that connects to an AS400 to retrieve record count for integrity checking. Under SQL server 2000 this worked fine but now it errors with "The OLE DB provider "MSADSQL" has not been registered" how do i get this to work i suspect its because this is a 32 bit dll and my new system is a 64bit sql server on windows 2003. The odbc driver for the as400 has been installed also. The script is as follows:
dim cn 'sql connection
dim rs 'sql recordset for the insertion of new as400 records
dim insertstr 'sql insert string
dim rs1 'sql recordset for the insertion of new as400 records
dim insertstr1 'sql insert string
set cn = createobject("ADODB.Connection")
set rs = createobject("ADODB.Recordset")
Function Main()
'set up connection for sql
cn.provider="sqloledb"
cn.commandtimeout = 3600 'timeout in seconds
cn.open %sqlserver05%, %user%, %password%
'populate temporary table in sql with recordset from as400 odbc
insertstr1 = "Insert into db.dbo.%table% select 'table name',a.* from openrowset ('MSDASQL','DRIVER={Client Access ODBC Driver (32-bit)};SYSTEM=%system name%;UID=%username%;PWD=%password%','SELECT count(*) from %table%') as a"
set rs1 = cn.execute (insertstr1)
'close all objects
cn.close
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
End Function
Does anyone know how i change this to work under sql server 2005. i need to resolve this quickly in order to deliver a project on time. Many thanks
Chris

Hi All,
I' m trying to execute activeX script from a job. I could do it successfully. But when i tried to access data base the job is failed when running.
My Requirement : I would like to send a mail in a scheduled base using a job and activeX script.
I could send a mail giving static parameters. But as i need to make the parameter values of activeX script dynamic, i tried to connect data base and retrieve the required data as shown below.
When i parse the script it showed success.But this is failing when it is running.
while creating a job i had selected ActiveX script option with vbscript language
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Set con = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
con.Open "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=False;User ID=sa;password=welcome;Initial Catalog=MyDatabase;Data Source=(local); "
Set rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
Set rs = con.execute("select fromid,toid,seqid from MailsLog where status='N'")
while rs.eof <> true
con.execute ("update MailsLog set status='Y' where seqid = " & rs("seqid"))
wend
set rs = nothing
set con = nothing
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Could any one please help me in this regard, of accessing activeX script with connecting to data base.
I' ll be so kind of any immediate response.
Thanking You

I have a DTS package that I brought over from SQL server 2000 in to SQL Server 2005. I have installed all of the legacy components to run the DTS packages but I need to debug an ActiveX script task. In SQL Server 2000 I could turn on Just-In-Time debugging and use the stop operator (in my vbscript) to break the running script and launch the debugger.
I don't see how to do this in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. Is it possible to debug a script object in a DTS package running in SQL Server 2005?

Is it true that SQlL server Express can only use Local Database Engine to host the database?

Hi -
I got through the installation hoops for SQLEXPRESS Reporting Services in Vista and set up the default configurations in Report Services Configuration. I can explore the default directory for "Reports" in IIS7, but I can't browse in IE. I get the "The report server is not responding. verify that the report server..." message in the browser. This is after I migrated the app per the initial http 500 error using the preferred method - %systemroot%system32inetservAPPCMD.exe migrate config "Default Web Site/Reports".
I'm running Vista Ultimate, VS2005, SQLEXPRESS SP2. I've tried running IE as admin and also I've disabled UAC from gpedit.msc - ...Windows SettingsSecurity SettingsLocal PolicySecurity Options and unchecking UAC.
Thanks,
