Is there any option in sql server DTS or any other third party tool that can script data. By scripting data i mean that....
if a table "Employee" contains 50 rows, i want the tool to write 50 insert queries for me so that i can run in it anywhere.
Problem is i have to insert data in a remote server where i cannot use DTS. I just have a text area to write my query and press the run button..

SSIS (SQL 2005) Exporting To Excel
Apr 1, 2008I have been able to export to Excel with success. However, here is a big issue
Destination spreadsheets that contain colums. This seems to work OK but what is strange (by design???) is that appearently it reads the first seven or several rows and then determines the data types (numeric or string). Why doesn't it just use the data types from the source fields? If the last row is column headings (strings, such as Jan, Feb, etc) it treats EVERY row data element in the column as string or character data type. Why??? For my testing, I had to put a full row of 0's in my monthly buckets, so the data would be imported as numbers in the spreadsheet, otherwise it was string or charater data type.
Please tell me there is some logical reasoning behind this Excel export "feature". Or is there someting I am missing? I really want the destination Excel spreadsheet to be a template and have formated Title, Headings (different fonts), columns etc. My thinking is that it would just drop the data at the end of the spreadsheet (in this case the first row following the column headings) with the same data types as the fields in the source. I hope I am wrong and there is away to accomplish exporting to Excel as described above. A very simple approach, Microsoft could have possibly taken is have the ability to specify the starting row, column as a propert(ies) in the Excel Destination object / control.

I am new to SSIS...and wanted to know where can i get a lot of info on how to deal with ActiveX Scripttasks & Script tasks in SSIS...the place i am working has a lot of VB Scripting done in DTS Packages...having a hard time in understanding the Scripts, as i am more like back-end guy and wanted to learn a lot in SSIS, once i understand the scripts it will help me a great deal as to how to approach the tasks...Is there any website which teaches how to avoid Scripting in SSIS as i read somewhere that Scripting should be avoided as much as possible by making using of so many tasks in the SSIS tool.
I will look forward for someone to help me out and show me a way.

Cant Add COM Reference In VSA To Microsoft Excel.
Mar 4, 2008in an SSIS project i am building, i need to open up an excel workbook and execute a macro on that workbook. I have been unable to create the excel workbook object in my script task because i cannot seem to add a COM reference since VSA does not have this capability. in my research on the web i have seen a few solutions to this.
Microsoft Knowledge Base states that you can cause assemblies from other locations to be displayed in this list in VSA by adding other folder names under the AssemblyFolders registry key. i tried this but it had no effect and further research on the web found that no one else had any luck doing this either. the other solution i saw is to add the needed dll to the C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727 directory. since i was unsure as to which dll is actually the one responsible for excel i just added all the dll's under the office11 directory in microsoft office. this had no effect, as i still do not see the reference i need to microsoft excel in the list of available references.
this would seem like a common thing that is needed but i can not seem to find anything about it on the web anywere. desparate for some help as i have been stuck on this for 2 days now. anyhelp? anyone?

Copy Excel Sheet To SQL 2005(Dev Edit X64) Via SSIS

This worked on the laptop I had last week. That laptop has ceased to be. I have a new one, which may be my problem.
I have a package that takes an Excel Sheet, makes a couple of conversions via the Data Conversion object, and places the rows into my SQL 2005 X64 database.
Here are the major exceptions:
1. [Excel Source [2479]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed. (THERE WERE NOT)
2. [Connection manager "Excel Connection Manager"] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040154. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Service Components" Hresult: 0x80040154 Description: "Class not registered".
Here is the rub... I am running Vista(Weeeee), and Office 2007(Double Weeeeee). Last week I was running XP, and Office 2003.
Is this a wierd Vista permission problem? The "Class not Registered" message is worrying me. Does SSIS work with Excel 2007 installed?

Using SSIS To Export Data From SQL 2005 To Excel 2007

I made a package in SSIS to copy some data from SQL server 2005 SP2 to Excel 2007. The package works fine, but generate errors. If I replace the OLE DB destination for Excel 2007 with a Excel destination for Excel 2003 then they errors don't appear. The problem is that I have to use Excel 2007 because the data contains more than 65000 records. I thought maybe it was to much date, but if I limit the amount of data with top 100 it also generate errors.
The errors are:

Aug 27, 2015I am copying the template with header before loading the data. I tried deleting Dataflow task, Excel Connection manager etc., nothing seems to work and there are no nulls in the data. I did this several times, workaround seems to not working this time.

I have a script that has a LINKed server reference (see below) .
INSERT
INTO ACTDMSLINKED.ACTDMS.DBO.COILS ..etc.
ACTDMSLINKED does not exist at the time I need to add the stored procedure that references it.
PLEASE to not tell me to add the LINK and then run the script. This is not an option in this scenerio.

Deleting Files Using SSIS Scripting Object
Jun 5, 2006I am utlizing a scripting object in my ssis to combine two text files into one final file, and then I want to delete the original files. To do this I am utilizing the FileSystemInfo namespace and associating the file names, then utilizing the DELETE functionality.
The creation of the final file works perfectly...unfortunately, my base files do not delete, and I do not get a failure message or indictator.

Scripting SQL Server 2005 Changes
Mar 11, 2008I've checked this site but was unable to find what i needed. Perhaps there is a very simple solutio to this.
I have several databases (development, testing1, testing2, production).
I have recently modified and added some tables and stored procedures in the development database. I would like to push the changes to testing1 database. In SQL Management Studio, it's possible to right-click the a table and create EITHER an alter or create or drop script. The same is for stored procedures. I need to be able to create scripts that checks if the object (table, or stored procedure exists) and either 1) create it, if the object exist or 2) alter it, if the object exists.
Is there a tool that does this? or How can I do this via Management Studio?

Guys,
I currently doing microsoft's hands-on training tutorial for SSIS. I realized that its not an comprehensive ETL tool as it was advertised to me. I see it more of a package tool for all imports, exports which include DML scripts.
In my scenario I have to convert 10 source data tables to destination schema tables. i normally use DML scripts to convert the data. Once I have mapping between source and destination tables it does not take more than hour to write DMl scripts. But when I try to use SSIS its taking me more time to create data flow tasks and create a package. And does SSIS support all the sql server 2005 string functions.
Any comments/inputs would help.

Would SSIS Be The Right Tool ?
May 30, 2007We have a web application using SQL Server 2005 to store and serve the data to forms made using .Net 2. The forms are used by customers to enter fifteen or so items if data. An important part of what the app does is to validate these 15 items of data against data brought in from the main application which is in Access 2003 (for example, did the customer enter a valid part #, did they actually purchase that part number in the qty stated, etc).
I want to periodically (nightly) schedule a copy of the lookup data from Access (2 different databases) into tables in SQL Server. The copy process would simply overwrite the existing lookup data in SQL server with the new data each night. My guess that about 250 mb of data would be copied. The two different databases are identical in structure, but different in data. They are used in two different countries.
The process as I see it would be to:
1. Delete existing lookup data.
2. Copy in data from database 1
3. Copy in data from database 2
I need to use something with enough programming power to resolve issues with primary keys, eg not copy Access table columns which contain them, and perhaps populate a column in the SQL Server lookup tables which indicate which Access database a given record came from.
If we use SSIS, then I will need to learn it, which is great as long as I am going down the right path in the first place.
Would SSIS be the right tool? Is there something more appropriate? Is there a good tutorial?

At our company we are considering building an architecture for file
imports and processing and considering both Biztalk and SSIS at this
time.
My understanding from reading the material out there regarding this
subject that Biztalk is more suited for integrating applications and
real time communication of information and SSIS is more suited for
bulk loads into databases/data warehouses and data manipulation.
Currently we are somewhat along the lines described above, but there
is a desire to use one technology over the other for importing files
and data manipulation, and I am not sure that is practical. Also
there is a debate currently as to whether Biztalk does better at
handling logic than SSIS.
I have read through the article on microsoft site that outlines the

However, I would like to get some input from people who have actually
used both these tools in the real world for ETL process and could
provide some insight so as to help us make an informed decision.

SSIS - Need To Reference .NET Assembly Without GAC
Jan 25, 2007I have a .NET assembly that I need to reference and use within my SSIS script task.
The only way I can acheive this is to strongly name my assembly and put it in the GAC.
This is not possible as my assembly is already in production and uses other 3rd party assemblies that would also need to be registered in the GAC.
As a workaround, I have created a .Net console application that references my assembly, that call from a SSIS Process Task.
Does anyone know of another way I could use my .NET assembly within my SSIS package?
Any help appreciated.

Using SSIS As A Workflow Automation Tool

I am looking for any information about using SSIS as a workflow automation (job engine) tool. My company is looking into buying a 3rd party app to do our job scheduling and I think that SSIS could do all that we need. The only issue they found with SSIS is the lack of a GUI/dashboard to view all jobs at once. We need more flexibility than the job scheduler in SQL Server Agent will allow. I have heard that it is possible to build a C# GUI app that can serve as a job engine front page.
What we need is a way to view all jobs in the system and be able to start, stop, pause all jobs manually in a graphical interface. I know of a few companies that are doing this but I am unable to find anything on line about it. My bosses are ready to give SSIS a shot if I can prove that we can build such an interface. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of such an application or have any tips on where I should look?

You can only use VBA but there is no extensive or in my respect any documentation as reference for using VBA in SSIS. I am new to VBA because i used to use jscipt and vbscript in early version of sql server. But in order to learn using VBA, I need to learn it in which there seems to be no reference in relation to SSIS. All the VBA references you find are in relation to MS Office. Is there anything i am missing or can someone show me where to go as my reference for VBA in SSIS. Its bad enough to change the scripting language but worse not to provide any reference materials for uses to get up to speed.

in SSIS script task. All the objects that i declared become underlined because there is no reference to the above library.
When i go in SSIS script task and open the code to add the reference it does not the list the above library.
I am able to add reference in Visualstudio but not in SSIS.
