1) can i add data files and put in different disk in production hours
2) what are the effects of doing this.

Adding Data To Database Or Viewing Database In MsSQL
Jun 14, 1999I am new to ms SQL. I only have the use of the Enterprise Manager.
Creating tables I understand. However I am confused on how to add data to
a table or view the data in a table. Can this be done through Enterprise Manager? If I am adding a large amount of data do I have to use the query window. This seems like a tedious method. In Access yo have a form basically pop up where you can type in the record sets. Any advice would be appreciated! Sincerely,

Nov 15, 2007Very basic question here but I need to add a form to a page so it adds content, its as simple as that. I've done this kind of using a <asp.Formview> tag and it works, but becuase I think I've used a form view I have to click add to insert data first. Adding A Data File In Database
Feb 11, 2002We are using SQL server 7.0 as RDBMS for BaaN ERP. We have
created the database file in E: drive. Now E: drive is going to be
exhausted, We are trying to add a new file at different location. When
we add the file into database it creates a file with default extension .ndf
but previous file has the extension .mdf. should we change the extension
of new file to .mdf or we should continue with default extension .ndf.
is it necessary to add a secondary file group or we add a file to the
existing primary group.

Adding Files To A Filegroup
Jul 25, 2001Problem: I need to build several databases on a quarterly basis. The databases range in size from 30 GB to 250 GB. I want to keep each dtabase file <= 20 GB so my databases contain from 2 to 13 database files (I put these all in one filegroup. the filegroup is separate from the PRIMARY filegroup which contains only the system tables in my databases).
I would like to create the files for the databases asynchronously (I have four physical drive letters on which to create the files and would like to be building one file on each drive simultaneosly). I can acheive the asynchronous operation by creating a separate job for each of the drive letters and then callin sp_start_job for each of the jobs.
The problem is that the ALTER DATABASE command apparently locks the sysfiles table and three of the four processes are always blocked and I therfore end up build the files serially instaed of in parallel.
Is there a way to make these processes work in parallel?

These are the same files everytime except that the data change. Is it possible to make an automated proces for this import?

a. Read data from Different CSV files.
b. insert and update data to Data base in multiple table using joins.
This execution runs for 1-2 hours.I can use C# with Ado.net, but only concern I see is if in between execution fails due to some connection or other error. All insert data has to be cleaned up again.I feel writing and Store procedure inside transaction, which will take path's for CSV file as input and insert data in database. using transaction we will have flexibility rollback to original state.

Oct 23, 2015Have a SQL2008R2 instance on a VM where the single .mdf for the tempDb database is located on a high contention disk. I've managed to get another 60GB disk and thought it would be a good time to move the .mdf and also increase it's size and number of files.
The server has 12 cores and after a bit of reading I've decided that it would be best just to have four files for this database as the 1 file per core (-1) seems to be disputed.
-- Move the existing file to the new disk and rename it.

lets say, I have disaster after 3 months, and I recover database with data and log backup files. Will I be able to recover with 3 month old backup file with just 1 week Log file backup. As I am keeing my Log backups only for 1 week.

Oct 1, 2014I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 2 node cluster with SQL Server 2014 FCI installed. Data files are on a separate Windows Server 2012 R2 file server. Data files share has been permissioned to the SQL Server service and SQL Server Agent service accounts as Full Control. NTFS Permissions are Full Control.
When I try to attach a database

Unable to open the physical file "apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAAdventureWorksDW2012_Data.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".
If I log into the file server (called APRICOT) and look at the NTFS permissions they all look good. I have also reapplied the NTFS permissions from the root folder down.
EDIT
If I log on to one of the nodes in the cluster as the SQL Server service account and navigate to apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATA and copy and paste the data file, it works fine.
EDIT2:
If I log on to the file server and Enable Inheritance at the root level, then Replace all child objects with inheritable permission entries from this object, I get this error:
User Account Control settings on all nodes and the file server are set to Never notify

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Separate Data Files / Log Files / TempDB / Backups
Jan 9, 2015I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.

Adding A New Data Column (not Derived) Midway Thru A Data Flow
Jan 5, 2006I need to know what a table's max row Identity is part way thru a data flow. I can't get it at the beginning of the data flow. I need to either (1) add it to the data buffer part way thru or (2) set it into a package variable and then reference the var in a script component.
I've not found a way to add a database column to the data buffer without doing a lookup for each row (too slow and not appropriate here) or some goofy oledb source and then merge join into the data buffer on a contrived join.
I've read questions about referencing package vars in scripts but I can't get that to work. DTS.Variables("varname").Value isn't recognised when I code it up.
Anyone have an idea or solution for either one of these? If you're gonna explain the script code, please include the entire snipet including the INCLUDEs, etc.
Adding New Data Fiels And Inserting Data
Sep 17, 2004I have some website work lined up and it involves some simple modifications to a MS SQL 2000 server. What I'll need to do is add some new data fields and insert some data.
I have some experience with databases - MS Access and MySQL, but I have never used or seen MS SQL 2000. My question is, is this a relatively simple thing to do for someone who hasn't used it before? I can do these things quite simply in Access or MySQL, so is MS SQL 2000 going to be any different?
Also, does anyone know of any free tutorials online that would help me out?

I am a real novice at this and so it may appear to be a simple question but Im trying to add a number to the database from a textbox but it is having issues as the Storenum is an int and it wants a string. Adding A New Database
Mar 13, 2005Hi, I am so very new at using asp and my problem is that i have created a new access database and I am unable to connect to it. I am using the desktop engine and I can connect to all the sample database's fine. I've tried using the osql statments at the command prompt and after I am granted login and try to grant access to my new database called 'Assets' it tells me that i do not have access or permission to this database. If anyone can help me I would so so appreciate it (I need idiot instructions :) ).
