Adding Query Results To A Tbale

Jan 13, 2004

hello everybody,

I have a small problem and was hipeing someone could help. Want to run a query, where I sellect results from two tables. Once this is done I want to takes those results and update a table that is already created with those results. How would I do this? Thw eonly way I know how to do this is by writing this:

select CompanyName, ContactName, Address, City, Region, ProductName, UnitPrice INTO TABLE2
From Suppliers, Products

But the problem with this is that I can only input the query results into a new table that I would name above. I can't insert it into a table that has already been created.

This is the erroe that I receive:
There is already an object named 'TABLE2' in the database.

Please Help!

thanks

Transact SQL :: Adding Results Of Query To Another Query Via Dynamically Added Columns

Jul 30, 2015

For each customer, I want to add all of their telephone numbers to a different column. That is, multiple columns (depending on the number of telephone numbers) for each customer/row. How can I achieve that?

I want my output to be

CUSTOMER ID, FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, TEL1, TEL2, TEL3, ... etc

Each 'Tel' will relate to a one or more records in the PHONES table that is linked back to the customer.

I want to do it using SELECT. Is it possible?

Adding Columns To A Query From Results

Apr 14, 2014

I have a table called approval_levels in which I have 2 columns:

|LEVEL_ID |NAME |
|1 |app_level_1 |
|2 |app_level_2 |
|3 |app_level_3 |

I have a second table called requests, in which I have 3 columns:

|REQUEST_ID |PRODUCT_NAME |MANUFACTURER |
|1 |wd-40 |Acme |
|2 |Windex |Acme |
|3 |Propane |Acme |

I have a third table which links the two called request_approvals which has 2 columns: REQUEST_ID, LEVEL_ID. When a request is approved for a specific level, I insert a value into this table. So, for example, lets say request 1 has been approved for all 3 levels, request 2 has been approved for only level 1, and request 3 has been approved for level 3, the table would show something like this.

|REQUEST_ID |LEVEL_ID |
|1 |1 |
|1 |2 |
|1 |3 |
|2 |1 |
|3 |3 |

Ok, so here the challenge: I need to show in a report all the requests, create a columns for each level and show whether or not that request is approved for that level. The end result has to be something like this:

|REQUEST_ID |PRODUCT_NAME |MANUFACTURER |app_level_1 |app_level_2 |app_level_3 |
|1 |wd-40 |Acme |X |X |X |
|2 |Windex |Acme |X | | |
|3 |Propane |Acme | | |X |

Keep in mind that if another value is added to the approval_levels table (ie app_level_4), I need to add another column to the table call app_level_4 dynamically.Now, how in the world do I do something like this?

SQL Server 2012 :: Adding 2 COUNT Statements Results In Heavy Query

Jan 28, 2014

These separate COUNT queries are very fast:

SELECT COUNT(id) as viewcount from location_views WHERE createdate>DATEADD(dd,-30,getdate()) AND objectid=357
SELECT COUNT(id)*2 as clickcount FROM extlinks WHERE createdate>DATEADD(dd,-30,getdate()) AND objectid=357

But I want to add the COUNT statements, so this is what I did:

select COUNT(vws.id)+COUNT(lnks.id)*2 AS totalcount
FROM location_views vws,extlinks lnks
WHERE (vws.createdate>DATEADD(dd,-30,getdate()) AND vws.objectid=357)
OR
(lnks.createdate>DATEADD(dd,-30,getdate()) AND lnks.objectid=357)

Turns out the query becomes immensely slow. There must be something I'm doing wrong here which results in such bad performance, but what is it?

select @orders.orderid from @orders

Need To Display Results Of A Query, Then Use A Drop Down List To Filter The Results.

Feb 12, 2008

Hello. I currently have a website that has a table on one webpage. When a record is clicked, the primary key of that record is transfered in the query string to another page and fed into an sql statement. In this case its selecting a project on the first page, and displaying all the scripts for that project on another page. I also have an additional dropdownlist on the second page that i use to filter the scripts by an attribute called 'testdomain'. At present this works to an extent. When i click a project, i am navigated to the scripts page which is empty except for the dropdownlist. i then select a 'testdomain' from the dropdownlist and the page populates with scripts (formview) for the particular test domain. what i would like is for all the scripts to be displayed using the formview in the first instance when the user arrives at the second page. from there, they can then filter the scripts using the dropdownlist.
My current SQL statement is as follows.
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [TestScript] WHERE (([ProjectID] = @ProjectID) AND ([TestDomain] = @TestDomain))"
So what is happening is when testdomain = a null value, it does not select any scripts. Is there a way i can achieve the behaivour of the page as i outlined above? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
James.

SQL Server 2012 :: Adding RowID To Existing Table - Inconsistent Results

May 6, 2015

I am getting inconsistent results when BULK INSERTING data from a tab-delimited text file. As part of my testing, I run the same code on the same file again and again, and I get different results every time! I get this on SQL 2005 and SQL 2012 R2.

We have an application that imports data from a spreadsheet. The sheet contains section headers with account numbers and detail rows with transactions by date:

AAAA.1234 /* (account number)*/
1/1/2015 $150 First Transaction
1/3/2015 $24.233 Second Transaction
BBBB.5678
1/1/2015 $350 Third Transaction
1/3/2015 $24.233 Fourth Transaction

My Import program saves this spreadsheet at tab-delimited text, then I use BULK INSERT to bring the data into a generic table full of varchar(255) fields. There are about 90,000 rows in each day's data; after the BULK INSERT about half of them are removed for various reasons.

Next I add a RowID column to the table with the IDENTITY (1,1) property. This gives my raw data unique row numbers.

I then run a routine that converts and copies those records into another holding table that's a copy of the final destination table. That routine parses though the data, assigning the account number in the section header to each detail row. It ends up looking like this:

AAAA.1234 1/1/2015 $150 First Purchase
AAAA.1234 1/3/2015 $24.233 Second Purchase
BBBB.5678 1/1/2015 $350 Third Purchase
BBBB.5678 1/3/2015 $24.233 Fourth Purchase

My technique: I use a cursor to get the starting RowID for each Account Number: I then use the upper and lower RowIDs to do an INSERT into the final table. The query looks like this:

SELECT RowID, SUBSTRING(RowHeader, 6,4) + '.UBC1' AS AccountNumber
FROM GenericTable
WHERE RowHeader LIKE '____.____%'

Results look like this:

But every time I run the routine, I get different numbers!

Needless to say, my results are not accurate. I get inconsistent results EVERY TIME. Here is my code, with table, field and account names changed for business confidentiality.

TRUNCATE TABLE GenericImportTable;
ALTER TABLE GenericImportTable DROP COLUMN RowID;
BULK INSERT GenericImportTable FROM 'SERVERGeneralAppnameDataFile.2015.05.04.tab.txt'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ' ', ROWTERMINATOR = '', FIRSTROW = 6)
ALTER TABLE GenericImportTable ADD RowID int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL
SELECT RowID, SUBSTRING(RowHeader, 6,4) + '.UBC1' AS AccountNumber
FROM GenericImportTable
WHERE RowHeader LIKE '____.____%'

SQL Server 2012 :: Adding Count To Query Without Duplicating Original Select Query

However, as you can see, the original select query is run twice and joined together.What I was hoping for is this to be done in the original query without the need to duplicate the original query.

Query Fails With Invalid Column Name But Succeed As Sub-query With Unexpected Results

Sep 22, 2015

-- The 3rd query uses an incorrect column name in a sub-query and succeeds but rows are incorrectly qualified. This is very DANGEROUS!!!
-- The issue exists is in 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014 and is "By Design"

set nocount on
go
if object_id('tempdb.dbo.#t1') IS NOT NULL drop table #t1
if object_id('tempdb.dbo

[code]....

This succeeds when the invalid column name is a valid column name in the outer query. So in this situation the sub-query would fail when run by itself but succeed with an incorrectly applied filter when run as a sub-query. The danger here is that if a SQL Server user runs DML in a production database with such a sub-query which then the results are likely not the expected results with potentially unintended actions applied against the data. how many SQL Server users have had incorrectly applied DML or incorrect query results and don't even know it....?

Transact SQL :: Use Query Results As Select Criteria For Another Query

Jul 10, 2015

I have a query that performs a comparison between 2 different databases and returns the results of the comparison. It returns 2 columns. The 1st column is the value of the object being compared, and the 2nd column is a number representing any discrepancies.What I would like to do is use the results from this 1st query in the where clause of another separate query so that this 2nd query will only run for any primary values from the 1st query where a secondary value in the 1st query is not equal to zero.I was thinking of using an "IN" function in the 2nd query to pull data from the 1st column in the 1st query where the 2nd column in the 1st query != 0, but I'm having trouble ironing out the correct syntax, and conceptualizing this optimally.

While I would prefer to only return values from the 1st query where the comparison value != 0 in order to have a concise list to work with, I am having difficulty in that the comparison value is a mathematical calculation of 2 different tables in 2 different databases, and so far I've been forced to include it in the select criteria because the where clause does not accept it.Also, I am not a DBA by trade. I am a system administrator writing SQL code for reporting data from an application I support.

Adding Numbers While Doing Query

Mar 28, 1999

I used this with an access DB and would like to re-write it to work with
sql.

sql = "SELECT funds.itemdisc, Sum(IIf(funds.status='Credit'"
sql = sql & ",CDbl(funds.fundamount),0,)) AS income, Sum(IIf funds.status='Debt'"

sql = sql & ",-1*CDbl(funds.fundamount),0)) AS outgo"
sql = sql & " FROM funds "
sql = sql & "GROUP BY funds.itemdisc"

What I am doing here is collecting the columns and using status as
credit or debt, if its debt I am subtracting from outgo if it is credit
I am adding to credit. This also will only select records so that
there are not any double listings. Here is an example.

DB
desc status fundamount
bill debt 10.00
bill debt 15.00
in credit 10.00
bills debt 5.00
in credit 5.00
paper debt 5.00

When I do the query I should have this

desc fundamount
bill -25.00
bills - 5.00
paper - 5.00
in 15.00

Something like that...

What do you think?
Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to add a table to a query with joins? I have tried subquery but I get an EXIST error message. The only way I was able to get the information was join the table and enter every single column to my query. I hope there is an easier and more efficent way of doing this.

Hi,New to .Net and SQL.  I have two tables that I have joined together.  RentalControl_Main has the rental informationd and an Adjuster ID that links to the ADjuster table and the adjusters name.  I am trying to create a report that gives the "Single" adjuster name and the totals for all of their contracts.  I have a details report that gives each contract info. for each specific adjusters rentals.  However, I want to just list the adjuster once and give all of their totals.  In my SQL statement I have all of it written out and just need to knowwhat to do in place of 'Alex Early' that will give me all of the distinct adjusters.Do I need to code this on the page with a do while loop?Appreciate any help.SELECT     SUM(dbo.RentalControl_Main.Rate) / COUNT(dbo.RentalControl_Main.Rate) AS AmtAvg, SUM(dbo.RentalControl_Main.DaysBilled)                       / COUNT(dbo.RentalControl_Main.DaysBilled) AS DayAvg, SUM(dbo.RentalControl_Main.Rate * dbo.RentalControl_Main.DaysBilled)                       / COUNT(dbo.RentalControl_Main.Rate) AS TotAvgFROM         dbo.RentalControl_Main INNER JOIN                      dbo.RentalControl_Adjuster ON dbo.RentalControl_Main.AdjusterID = dbo.RentalControl_Adjuster.AdjusterIDWHERE     (dbo.RentalControl_Adjuster.AdjusterName = 'Alex Early' AND (dbo.RentalControl_Main.DateClose IS NOT NULL) AND                       (dbo.RentalControl_Main.AgencyID = '2')

Help On Adding Another Filter Statement On The Query

May 27, 2008

Hi everybody have this query that list all the duplicate records meaning the occurence of pubinfid in more than one row. This gets me fine. Iwant thought to insert a where clause that further filters the result where pubid between 30 and 33. I tried placing it after the FROM CLAUSE BUT DOESN'T GIVE me what I want it still includes records other than the between clause. Also I tried placing it after the HAVING clause but it includes records which has only one count.. Where could I place the where clause or is ther an alternative for this.

SELECT a.pubinfid, a.pubid, a.pubcount
FROM pubssubscribe AS a INNER JOIN
(SELECT pubinfid
FROM pubssubscribe
GROUP BY pubinfid
HAVING (COUNT(*) > 1)) AS b ON a.pubinfid = b.pubinfid

Automatically Adding Numbers To Query

Jun 4, 2008

Hello everyone!

I have a question for you. I have a product database with a lookup that pulls by product number. All my product numbers are made up the same way. IE. N59840, N00951, N00951. ect.

I have a stored procedure that looks up by that product number with a "LIKE" statement that looks like this.

WHERE ([Product#] LIKE '%' + @PRODUCTNUM + '%')

Which has this problem if someone types in "852" it returns

N00852
N05852
N98852

Is there anyway that I can have SQL put in zeros to fill up the 5 number spots so "852" brings up "00852" or "5852" brings up "05852"

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you for your help!!!

Adding A Count Clause To A Query

Jun 5, 2008

I have the following query where I select records from Active_Activities_temp which do not match on cde_actv in the table ACTIVITY_CORE_LISTING:
SELECT Active_Activities_temp.*
FROM Active_Activities_temp LEFT JOIN
ACTIVITY_CORE_LISTING ON
Active_Activities_temp.cde_actv=ACTIVITY_CORE_LISTING.cde_actv
WHEREACTIVITY_CORE_LISTING.cde_actv is null
ORDER BY prtcpnt_id
So for example, if a participant has a cde_actv=38 (which doesn't exist in ACTIVITY_CORE_LISTING), that record would appear as the query is currently.

The issue is that participants can have multiple records in Active_Activities_temp and if a participant has a record that does exist in ACTIVITY_CORE_LISTING, no records for that participant should appear in this query result. For example, if a participant has two records in Active_Activities_temp, one with a cde_actv 38 (which does not appear in ACTIVITY_CORE_LISTING) and one with a cde_actv 33 (which does appear in ACTIVITY_CORE_LISTING), no records for that participant should appear in the result. Currently the record with cde_actv=38 does appear.

What code can I implement to do what I need to do? Thanks so much.

Query Results

Oct 7, 1999

I am a beginner with SQL, so please excuse any ignorance here.

Under SQL 6.5, when executing a SELECT DISTINCT query against a table in a certain database, the results were returned alphabetized. Now, after migrating the database to SQL 7.0, the same query does not return the results alphabetized. If I add an index for the column specified in the query to the table, the results come back alphabetized. Is there any way to correct this other than adding indexes for all columns in all tables that are queried in this manner?

TIA,
