Adding Logins Via SSEUtil Compared To SQL Server Management Studio

I am currently in the process of setting up an SQL Server Express installation that comes packaged with an application I have written. My problem is that I want to use SQL Server user management (not just windows users) which work fine if I set them up manually. I started writing a script that I have SSEUtil execute once the application is fully installed (a step in my installation script) which sets up the users and passwords etc. The script is similar to the following:

Now if I run this script from within SQL Server Management Studio it executes perfectly. The logins add, the role is added, each user is added to the database logins and assigned to the role, the schema is set correctly on each user.
Then when I try to run the exact same script from the SSEUtil application (SSEUTIL -s PCNAMEInstance -run USERS.SQL), it processes everything, except the Logins.
This is frustrating as it means to install for a client I would need to either get them to open the management console and run the script from there, or I have to go to site just to setup users.
Am I on the right track? Or is there another way to automate the adding of Logins?

I have a drill down report and would like to add interactive sort on two columns:- column 1 & column 2. These two columns should be in descending order. By adding this, when user's click on column 1 they will see the data based on the sorted order.

mates i have in my care around 10 applications. each application has it's own database and in each database i have a users table. in these tables i am also having columns for users rights for the applications.
since the users are the same for all 10 applications i am beginning to feel that it's time for a change. i am trying to develop a single database for users but i did not find an appropriate solution for the users rights management. i am afraid that if i put together too many columns in a single table it will decrease performance.
do you know any pattern / article / book for a users management system?

But how can i put a simple date range interface on my published report so users can say "get me the stats from 04/09/2005 to 20/09/2005, which then runs the query?

Adding Up Occurrences Of Reports On Days Of Week - Get MAX Values
Oct 13, 2014In my database I am adding up the occurrences of reports on days of the week. If I am not using the MAX value then I get something returned such as
EmployeeID DaysOfWeek ReportID
1001 1 201
1001 2 201
As I just need the highest value returned I'm attempting to use MAX. However, the problem is that all values are being returned in the DaysOfWeek column as 5 even though they may range anywhere from 1-7. The DaysOfWeek should be for a unique EmployeeID/ReportID combination.

I have added a new field to the SP, but when I try to add thefield to my Crystal Report invoice, the field isn't available in thelist. However, if I create a new, blank report using the same storedprocedure as the datasource, the field is available. I've seeminglytried every iteration of "Verify Database" to no avail.The obvious answer would be to simply drop the sp from my existingreport and then re-add it. Reporting Services :: SSRS Reports Migration And Management Between Environments
Aug 13, 2015How to manage the progression of SSRS reports from DEV > TEST > USER > PROD...I can see that you COULD manage this all from within VS however then all the control is in the developers hands and even though you can control access with permissions and stuff, its not very user friendly to provide a tester or business area manager or project manager with VS just so they can publish reports as they are approved.Are their any such tools to manage migration between ssrs servers or something that you could have a user test a report and then do something like "approve/promote" it to the next environment, or is this something we would need to create ourselves?
I can see that there are a few things that allow PROJECTS to be migrated (powershell scripts and something about octopus deploy) but these all seem to be too "big" for our organisation - we generally develop reports as a "logical group" (project) but migrate them individually or in VERY small groups (5 is probably the maximum), however keeping tabs on what report is at what version in what environment is causing our DBA massive migranes...Maybe there is something we can do from TFS or perhaps we need to build a utility app?

Feb 4, 2008As im diving into my new DBA role and reading as much as I can, I am a little confused on DMV's and system tables.
I've been reading through the book "SQL Server 2005 Bible", which has been very helpful. I tend to use it in conjunction with BOL whenever I come across something I want to learn more.
Last Friday, I tinkered around with DMV's, which was really cool, but I ran into something today that confused me.
Basically, it was finding out the recovery model for all the DB's on the server. The code in the book was:
SELECT [name], recovery_model_desc
FROM sys.databases;
Which turned exactly what it says it will.
however, I am confused.
I initially thought I needed to specify something in the "[name]" section, but realized, that is not the case.
My question is, why is that?
How do I know when to use [] around something?

I guess I am just really young and raw to T-SQL to know when to use the language corectly.
Is it due to the fact that the rules or syntax is a little different when using system tables?

Reporting Services :: Default Path For Saving Reports On File System?
Jun 23, 2015during period of troubles connecting to Local Servers and Sites location i.e., to [URL], the place where all Reports are saved by default, I have continued to work on some Reports that have been saved to file system of my localhost/developing machine. But, upon recovery of http location, I can not see/open those files?
how to approach those files in order to open them in Report Builder 3.0 and thus, to "save as" them to the http location? Seems that Report Builder has chosen that location, by default, somehow.....
System Restarts On Click Of The Print Button While Viewing Reports In The Browser
Apr 17, 2007We are using Reporting Services 2000.
The print button that is present in the browser is working just fine for some users.
But some users are complaining that on clicking the print button their system restarts.
Some other users are also getting the error "An error occurred during printing. (0x80004005)"
However on closing the browser and opening the report in it again this issue is resolved.
So, the main concern is "Restart of the machine on click of the PRINT icon in reports viewed in some application browser."
Please help!!

Sep 21, 2015I have created a custom library(CodeLibrary) which internally references the dlls Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client and Microsoft.TeamFoundation.WorkItemTracking.Client.
I added this custom Dll codelibrary.dll to my SSRS report. and the expression of one of the field as
=codelibrary.codefunction.GetValue(1000)
codefunction is the class and GetValue is the method.
When I preview the report, I get the error "Error while loading code module:
'CodeLibrary,Version=1.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=null'. Could not load file or assembly 'CodeLibrary,Version1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
I am using VS2013, I have placed the custom library DLL in the path
C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 12.0Common7IDEPrivateAssemblies
I have tested the custom library with a WPF application and it works fine.
I am not able to figure out what is causing this error.

I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Now, I know I need to install SP2 but how the hell I am going to install SP2 if Sql server 2005 doesn't install any of the components including Sql server Database services, Analysus services, Reporting integration services( only the workstation component is available for installation)?
Any work around for this issue?
P.S.: I didn't install VS.NET 2005 yet, can this solve the problem?

Reporting Services :: Adding (new) Child Domain Users To SSRS As System Users?
Jul 28, 2015We have an existing SSRS server, and have just created a new child domain. We'll be migrating users from the parent to the child, and want to add the users of that new domain with access to SSRS. In the parent domain they are able to access, but after migration with the child domain account, they cannot.
I have added the group CHILDDomain Users with a system user role on SSRS, and PARENTDomain Users was already there.
Is there any additional step I should/could take to get this active?

Using the reporting services web service I have been able to assign permissions to objects in reporting services no problem. The issue is that each user needs to be added to the System User role to be able to use the report builder properly. I can't seem to find a way to do this programmatically. Any idea?

I am a bit paranoid about what I just did to my SQL Server 2005 with this CLR experiment.
I created a Class Lib in C# called inLineLib that has a class Queue which represents an object with an ID field.
in another separate namespace called inLineCLRsql, I created a class called test which will hold the function to be accessed from DB, I referenced and created an instances of the Queue class, and retrieve it's ID in a function called PrintMessage.

so what I did is (and this is where I need to know if I just ruined sql server or not):
1- ALTER DATABASE myDB SET TRUSTWORTHY ON;.
2- CREATE ASSEMBLY SystemManagement
FROM 'C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727System.Management.dll'
WITH PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE
3- CREATE ASSEMBLY inLineLibMaster
FROM 'D:inLineServerinLineLibinDebuginLineLib.dll'

4- and finally

Everything works after those steps (which took some trial and error). I can create a sproc like:

and it returns the Queue ID
Is there anything unadvisable about the steps above?

Reports Usage Frequency For All The Existing Reports On SSRS 2000
Mar 18, 2008I have an already published application running several MS SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services report.
I need a way to find from either the reporting services log or the application server (IIS) logs or windows log
to know the frequency of each report being used.
Based on this info, the business needs to know which reports are being used and to what extend?
How can I acheive this?
I have already got the IIS logs and it did not give the required info.
I have looked into the Reporting Services logs but it does not provide the info either.
Any help is appreciated
