HI, I was going across the SQL tutorials, sql tutorial # 2 am coming across a preliminary problem.
When I click the 'add new item' tab from the website menu, and choose 'SQL Database', the connection is not setup and the error reads as follows:
Connections to SQL server files require SQL server 2005 to function properly. Please Verify the installation of the component or download the URL:.....
Now I have the necessary data connections working in my database, but I just can't figure out why is this going wrong. If somebody can literally spoonfeed me here, I'll be grateful, I am a pure newbie here, thanks!!!
I'm in the final stage of my asp.net project and one of the last things I need to do is add the following file information to my SQL server 2000 database when a file is uploaded:
First of all I have a resource table to which I need to add: - filename - file_path - file_size (the resource_id has a auto increment value)
so that should hopefully be straight forward when the file is uploaded. The next step is to reference the new resource_id in my module_resource table. My module resource table consists of: - resource_id (foreign key) - module_id (foreign key)
So, adding the module_id is easy enough as I can just get the value using Request.QueryString["module_id"]. The bit that I am unsure about is how to insert the new resource_id from the resource table into the module_resource table on file upload. How is this done? Using one table would solve the issue but I want one resource to be available to all modules - many to many relationship.
We are using SQL server 7.0 as RDBMS for BaaN ERP. We have created the database file in E: drive. Now E: drive is going to be exhausted, We are trying to add a new file at different location. When we add the file into database it creates a file with default extension .ndf but previous file has the extension .mdf. should we change the extension of new file to .mdf or we should continue with default extension .ndf.
is it necessary to add a secondary file group or we add a file to the existing primary group.
Hi!!! I have a database called "test_DB" i have one table and some data on it. I uploaded the website and created an SQL Server account to upload the database. Can you please help me to do that task. Is there any step by step directions to do it and what files i need to add ( like ".mdf" or others...) I appreciate your help!!! Thanks...
Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer. Cheers ~ J
yes,I have an error, like 'The database file may be corrupted. Run the repair utility to check the database file. [ Database name = SDMMC Storage Cardwinpos_2005WINPOS2005.sdf ]' .I develope a program for Pocket Pcs and this program's database sometimes corrupt.what can i do?please help me
I'm not sure if I can explain this properly, but I'll try. I need to create an output file with a detailed record. I've been able to create a query that will give me the format and fields of what I need. However, the file layout calls for an additional "B" record if certain criteria is met in the detail immediately following the detail record. For example, if the PaymentMethodID = 10, then I need to add a "B" record that displays the PayeeName. I'm not sure if this would be a separate Select or a Union or maybe an Insert? All of our current layout are just Detail records and a Control Record.
I am very new to the SQL report server, but have used other reporting tools before where I could add (or import) a new table of information directly into a report itself. I would do this when I required information in the report that is not part of the datasources tables.
For example, I use it for tying into the report complex sales budget numbers that are not included anywhere in the main datasource. I would simply add the table to my query I created, create my links, and I have a sales vs budget report.
Do you know if this is possible using the SQL reporting tools, or does the table need to be part of the main datasource ?
I am new to ms SQL. I only have the use of the Enterprise Manager. Creating tables I understand. However I am confused on how to add data to a table or view the data in a table. Can this be done through Enterprise Manager? If I am adding a large amount of data do I have to use the query window. This seems like a tedious method. In Access yo have a form basically pop up where you can type in the record sets. Any advice would be appreciated! Sincerely, Bill Bequette
Hello all. I was just wondering how I could add the current date and time to the name of the .bak file. I perform a full backup daily and would like to keep a weeks worth of backups, but everytime I run the job, it just overites the previous one.
The command in the wizzard is:
BACKUP DATABASE [snl] TO DISK = N'C:Backups_for_FTPSNL_Full.bak' WITH NOINIT , NOUNLOAD , NAME = N'snl backup', SKIP , STATS = 10, DESCRIPTION = N'SNL Backup', NOFORMAT
I was wondering if it was possible to add an identity column to a flat file data source as it is being processed in a data flow. I need to know the record number of each row in the file. Can this be done with the derived column task or is it possible to return the value of row count on each row of the data?
My current environment has multiple packages stored in SQL server (MSDB). When working on a set of packages I want to bring them into my local development area Add existing package only allows you to pull one package at a time - anyone have the secret to selecting multiples
I know allot of folks are having this problem and I tried lots of things but nothing works. I understand the problem is coping the SQL Express on another server is the problem - I just not sure what to do?
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.42
This is the last statement on the Stack Trace:
SqlException (0x80131904): An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file e:wwwdata81d0493fwwwApp_DataTestDatabase.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.] System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) +735091
I checked my server forum and they said I had to name a database: Example: Database=(unique name);
But this didn't work either.
I just tried a simple web project that has only one database and one table in SQL Express with one sqldatasource and one datagrid. It works fine on my pc but when I use the copy function in Visio Studio 2005 Pro - I can't run the site on the remote server: www.myjewelrydirect.com
I tried coping the database manually. I tried disconnecting the database before I copy it. Below is my connection statement:
When the database is configured for mirroring and you want to do partitioning on that database, How can we do? Is this similar process or any variation there while adding file groups and files? The partition will reflect in the mirroring database also?
SELECT '5' AS 'value/@version', 'database' AS 'value/@type', 'master' AS 'value/name', LTRIM(RTRIM(( [Server Name] ))) AS 'value/server', 'True' AS 'value/integratedSecurity', 15 AS 'value/connectionTimeout', 4096 AS 'value/packetSize', 'False' AS 'value/encrypted', 'True' AS 'value/selected', LTRIM(RTRIM(( [Server Name] ))) AS 'value/cserver' FROM dbo.RedGateServerList FOR XML PATH(''), ELEMENTS
I need to add some header information to the beginning of the query:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16" standalone="yes"?><!-- SQL Multi Script 1 SQL Multi Script Version:1.1.0.34--><multiScriptApplication version="2" type="multiScriptApplication"><databaseLists type="List_databaseList" version="1">
Everything I have tried ends up as a failure, usually compile issues. My goal here is to be able to automare a configuration file for multiscript so I can keep my server list up to date.
What is the best way to deal with a flat file source when you need to add a new column? This happens constantly in our Data Warehouse, another field gets added to one of the files to be imported, as users want more data items. When I originally set the file up in Connection Managers, I used Suggest File Types, and then many adjustments made to data types and lengths on the Advanced Tab because Suggest File Types goofs a lot even if you say to use 1000 rows. I have been using the Advanced Tab revisions to minimize the Derived Column entries. The file is importing nightly. Now I have new fields added to this file, and when I open the Connection Manager for the file, it does not recognize the new columns in the file unless I click Reset Fields. If I click Reset Fields, it wipes out all the Advanced Tab revisions! If I don't click Reset Fields, it doesn't seem to recognize that the new fields are in the file?
Is it a waste of time to make Advanced Tab type and length changes? Is it a better strategy to just use Suggest Types, and not change anything, and take whatever you get and set up more Derived Column entries? How did the designers intend for file changes to be handled?
Or is there an easy way to add new fields to this import that I am overlooking? I am finding it MUCH more laborious to set up or to modify a file load in SSIS than in DTS. In DTS, I just Edit the transformation, and add the field to the Source and Destination lists, and I'm good to go. My boss isn't understanding why a "better" version is taking so much more work!
I have an SSIS package which takes a SQL Query and generates a PIPE (|) delimited flat file. Simple enough. However, I also need to add a Trailer record at the bottom of the file (footer). To make this happen I could either do a UNION ALL on the same query script or what I've done is to create another query with the Trailer record and using the Merge component simply merged and appended the trailer record at the botton of the actual file.
The issue, however, is that the trailer record is always including extra PIPES at the end of the trailer. According to business, this wouldn't load properly at our vendor side due to the extra pipes in the trailer record as it'll be seen as additional columns.
Is there anyway to get rid of those extra pipes at the end of the trailer?
Trailer record should look like this:
TRAILER|A|B|C|D|
As of now, the appended Trailer record looks like this (additional pipes for each column in the main query script):
Normally (I usually program in JAVA), I would print out the variables to see if there is an issue but I haven't figured out how to do that in SSIS yet.I have to set the Connection string for the Flat File conection using the Expressions tab instead of putting the variable in the connection string tab.Now it works but the file that is spitting out is "testFileDSystem.String[]"
I put togehter a package that opens a flat file, parses the data based on the semi-colon delimeter, and imports the rows into a database table. Thats the fun easy part.
What I cant figure out is how to add a variable that will hold a constant ID value that will be persisted with the same value to all rows inserted to the DB. Making the problem harder, I would like that this value be defined in a properties file or database table of some sort so that I can do a lookup based on the file name / location to find out what value should be used.
Any suggestions? I hope my explanation makes at least some sense - but basically I want to do a look up in a configuration of some sort, pull out a single value, and add it to a data import.
Hi all,I have a problem and need some ideas. What I have done: I created a page to upload an excel file into a SQL Server table along with some customer info (from the login, day, etc.). This excel file contains several rows (some of them may be blank) and columns (also some may be blank). The file is stored in an image object. The file will be checked (they want to do it manually, because contents is a problem). If they say it is OK, I want to run a program to add a record into an existing table with the request no. (from the first table, where the object is stored) and all the information available from the filled rows (first row is header). I have a column, which can be checked, if the row contains data or not.Any ideas?I know how to read from and write the contents of the object to a field in the SQL table. Can I use this? Thanks for any idea / code / link.
I have a simple SSIS package that runs a query on the db and outputs a fixed width flat file. I have all my column widths defined and in the connection manager i can preview the output. Everything looks great. All the fields fall where they should and each record is on it's own line.
When i run the SSIS program and then go open my text file with a text editor the ouput is all on the same line. I have tried changing my file format from fixed width to ragging right and adding a row delimiter but that doesn't work either. I feel like i'm missing something small here. It could even be an issue w/ my text editor (although i've tried to open the text file in multiple editors). In the flat file connection manager I have my file defined to be 187 characters long, So figure every 187 characters it should output a new line (it should add the carraige return right?).
We are importing Flat file data from our Mainframe system. We have a lot of money amounts coming in, but the mainframe does not store the decimals in the flat file. So for example a row in the file might look like this:
+0000007894-0000000563
Where the first value is $78.94 and the second value is -$5.63
Is there anyway to have the Flat file connection manager put in the decimal place for me, or do i have to create derived columns for each column and divide it by 100? There like 50-100 columns per file, so i'm looking for a better, quicker way.
Hi-I have a sql database (2005) that I need to extract a report from that looks somehintg like SELECT * From Empl_Hours WHERE some_flag <> 'true' .The thing works fine, but the problem is this: I need to insert a record in the 1st row that looks like "Static_text"+row_count() +"more_static_text"where row_count is the actual # of rows that were retrieved. Thanks in advance for any help.DAn
Hi Guys, I know this is a little off the subject of ASP.net but I am using some code behind in C#. I am a real novice at this and so it may appear to be a simple question but Im trying to add a number to the database from a textbox but it is having issues as the Storenum is an int and it wants a string. Can anyone help? I know I need to write .tostring somewhere but can't work out where. My code is below. Thanks in advance. =) public partial class _addstore : System.Web.UI.Page {protected string Location; protected string Telephone;protected string Prefix; protected int StoreNum;protected string myConnectionString;protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Location = "default";Telephone = "default"; Prefix = "default";StoreNum = "0";myConnectionString = "Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HOF\App_Data\HOF.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True;";
Hi, I am so very new at using asp and my problem is that i have created a new access database and I am unable to connect to it. I am using the desktop engine and I can connect to all the sample database's fine. I've tried using the osql statments at the command prompt and after I am granted login and try to grant access to my new database called 'Assets' it tells me that i do not have access or permission to this database. If anyone can help me I would so so appreciate it (I need idiot instructions :) ).

Hi guys, I need some help again please. On my page load, I need the following done... I have a label control that must display a certain numeric value. This value must be the sum of an array of values that must be retreived from a table ("Details") with the column name "DealValue" but only where the column "ConsultantID" = txtConsultant.text I understand the select statement, but I don't know how to "run" through the table to add all the values. Can someone please help me with this and how I would construct the MSSql select statement for this. Thanks again
Hi guys, I am facing a confusing problem, whenever i select the add new item tab and choose add sql database, it reads an error stating 'Connections to sql server files require SQL server 2005 to be functioning properly, please verify the installation of the component or download it' The thing is, I have sql server 2005 properly installed on my pc and at the same time, whenever I choose to create a new connection from the server connection or in setting up a connection to the existing databases, I do not face any problem, so why is this issue occuring over here, I have no idea, thanks to anyone willin to resolve!
I have DateCreated with datetime datatype in my SQL Express 2005. I'd like to add the record to my Task table so I have a form in my ASPX and create a button event in my ASPX.CS here is the code protected void Button_AddTask_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { SqlDataSource newTask = new SqlDataSource(); newTask.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ToString(); newTask.InsertCommand = "INSERT INTO [Task] ([MemberAccountName], [Title], [Place], [TaskDetail],[DateCreated]) VALUES (@MemberAccountName, @Title, @Place, @TaskDetail,@DateCreated)"; newTask.InsertParameters.Add("MemberAccountName", User.Identity.Name); newTask.InsertParameters.Add("Title", TextBox_Title.Text); newTask.InsertParameters.Add("Place", TextBox_Place.Text); newTask.InsertParameters.Add("TaskDetail", TextBox_Detail.Text); newTask.InsertParameters.Add("DateCreated",DateTime.Now.ToString()); newTask.Insert(); Response.Redirect("Default.aspx"); }but I got this errorArithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime. The statement has been terminated.Any idea?
